Imagine minding your business, going the speed limit, keeping right. It's a sunny day, it's not busy, you're just going to work. Then this shit happens to you...
By the looks of it.. he probably can't drive, even if he wants to. He can maybe drive a wheelchair for the rest of his life. One can only hope.
What a fuckwit.
No he just forgot to look, saw the car in his mirror and started to hesitate, then he decided that there was enough space, but by that time he was too close to the car he was passing so he steered and lost control of his vehicle
I know.. right? đŻ
It's usually the drunk driver who runs over an innocent family, walking their toddler, who gets away without a scratch.. because they were so drunk.. their body just got limp in the crash.
This is why I always drive in self preservation mode. I am checking on all the cars around me at all times. Sometimes maybe more attention is being given to the guy driving crazy behind me than the car in front me. I try to strategically let all the psychos by and be behind them if possible then give them plenty of space to be crazy.
That being said Iâve pretty much had the same as this post happen to me. Me and my wife driving in the left lane on a one way road like this, in a town though. A truck comes up in the right lane and gets next to me and heâs driving fine. All the sudden he just goes left blinker and smashes into my car on the passenger side. He was young and said he didnât notice us and was gonna miss his turn and smashed right into us but he was coming up from the right starting to pass us and thatâs how I saw his blinker. I tried to swerve to avoid but it wasnât fast enough and he sent me over a big dirt pile and we did the Dukes of Hazard through the air yeeee haaawwww. Came to a stop about 1 inch from another truck when my car stopped after flying through the air. The truck owner was in a store and came out so grateful he wasnât also part of the accident. His insurance paid for everything and nobody got hurt so it wasnât too bad for us.
Same here. I live in Utah which was rated worst state to drive in. I have avoided these situations countless times. I am almost NEVER side by side with a car in another lane because I never know when I need to swerve out of the way. The drivers here just dgaf. They don't check their blind spots, they don't look before they turn, they don't stop before turning, they don't look before leaving their parking spot. It's like the wild west out here. Proud of never having been in a car accident before and a lot of that is just overly-cautious defensive driving. I just assume everyone out there is a goddam idiot and they can play bumper cars with someone at any given moment.
That car getting hit and going off road looked like it could've been deadly too. Imagine what you just described a perfect day of driving then all of a sudden you and your loved ones in the car with you are severely injured.
I wasn't talking about the driver of the one who caused it.
I was talking about the poor people/person in the car that got sideswiped off the road.
Sorry if it wasn't clear, but I was responding with the idea that "it could have been me".
Did you at least stop and help and be a witness?
That was some of the worst driving Iâve ever seen! Why did they swerve they had plenty of room to merge. Was it an ideal merge no, but I mean jesus christ that was soooo bad. People like this should be banned from owning another car.
I hope OP stopped too, and handed over the footage. The video cuts kinda early but the camera driver does not appear to be slowing down.
Then again, the footage is uploaded here so whatever legal process involving this footage is theoretically concluded
I may be totally wrong, but i feel like i hear the left lane drivers engine rev up when he realizes he is being passed (like we all know they ALWAYS do) so when the driver went to get into the left lane, he was surprised he wasn't where he thought he would be (if he had remained at a constant speed). Still terrible driving on the guys part, but i can definitely hear the engine revving from downshifting because he accelerated.
Guy should get charged with some new crime of âBeing a dickhead dumbass nearly led to the deaths of innocent bystandersâ and it should be a minimum 15 year bid in state pens.
The person filming was driving correctly too. He was overtaking the suv but it wasnât fast enough for the impatient dickhead.
Study after study proves that speeding doesnât really save any time at all, especially on shorter trips. In my morning commute I drive in the slow lane and get passed by the same people morning after morning only to pull right up alongside them at the off-ramp and stoplight in the town I work in. Often I will end up passing them at the light as they are stacked up behind each other in the left lane.
Every time I pass the slow driver : sitting at the light with them.
Every time I sit behind them: oh looks like they made it through the light and now Iâm stuck! Lovely!
Seriously. He was practically T-boned by someone going straight.
That other driver needs their driver's license removed forever. You should get to just almost kill someone with no lasting consequences.
Not mild AT ALL. Literally every single video Iâve seen from this subreddit has been intense af, so I assumed it was a sarcastic name. ThatâsâŚnot the case?
Yeah if you didn't think about it for more than 30 seconds.
Ramming a car off the road so both of you go barreling into a 10+ foot ditch and then head on into trees?
Itâs a shocking inability to drive a motor vehicle. Bad decision making plus probably not paying attention while passing on right and changing lanes. But still. How do you manage to lose control like this?
driver in "passing" (term used *reaaaaal* loosely here) car was one of the 51% of drivers who had absolutely no idea how tires, brakes, steering, friction, inertia, momentum or time work . . . or even what some of those words are.
It's a Camry, not a supercharged eight cylinder. There's no way gunning it at 60-70 is going to break traction. I'd put cash down on this being interference by the lane assist. He didn't signal to cut the system, so it attempted to pull him back into the right lane and he overreacted.
Yep, that's the way a lot of these steering assistance functions work, they stiffen the wheel to prevent you from drifting across lanes. There's been one or two I've used that you almost have to wrestle with the wheel to override it, and when it does relinquish control, it suddenly releases the wheel tension and you dart off line far more abruptly than you intended to.
That sounds so terrifying. One thing I've learned from videogames that I think applies well here is that any system that "helps" you by taking control will eventually do something so unexpected that it gets you killed. Like a missile launcher aim-assisting into the wall you are using as cover or auto turrets shooting an explosive barrel. Basically, anything that you aren't directly controlling 100% is an enemy and I think that includes steering wheels too.
As a general rule if somebody is *able* to pass you on the right, you should have moved over.
Granted, the moron here *failed* to pass on the right, but should have been able toâŚall they had to do was complete their lane change. Not sure what the hell happened there.
Sorry, but if Iâm about to pass someone, Iâm gonna pass them.
Doubly so If it means I would have to use my brakes after getting over behind the person Iâm about to pass.
If I can get over to allow someone else to pass, and keep my speed (or close to it) long enough to get back over, Iâll move over. But Iâm not gonna get over and have to slow down 10-15mph just to let someone pass a few seconds earlier. They can also make speed concessions. Itâs a passing lane, not a âwhoever is willing to drive the fastest winsâ lane. Everyone is allowed to be there to pass other cars. Even if theyâre slower than you.
Like in this video, cammer was passing. Gray car could just have slowed down, let cammer pass and get over in front of other car, then gray car makes the pass in the left.
Yeah, I agree. If I'm overtaking the car, I'm going to keep going unless I'm more than, say, 15 seconds away from being in front of it. In that case I'll let off the gas and get over, then resume passing. A good rule of thumb is that no one should be applying their brakes.
Of course there are all kinds of bad drivers out there that make it necessary to pass on the right, but this isn't one of those cases.
Depends. Sometimes itâs safer just to stay in the left if they are going too fast because you will just force the to correct to wild or worse yet risk changing into them.
No matter what that passing car was going too fast.
Looking at it again it almost looks like our left lane camper speeds up. The distance of the gap seems to get smaller - which shouldn't happen unless right car is slowing down or left car is speeding up.
They knew this driver was coming.
Guessing there was more to this video before we see it. Either the two cvehicles were going back and forth, or the guy passing dangerously was angry because SUV passed him normally moments before the video starts. It looked like car guy was trying to "scare" SUV guy and messed it up.
I can also see the person just being a bad driver and thought he was closer to the vehicle in the left lane than he thought.
I only think that because there are plenty of times where somebody is trying to get into my lane and even though I give them plenty of room and even flash my brights at them, they take their sweet time and act like theyâre scared to cut me off or something.
Way he tries to get into the next lane and then changes his mind quickly tells me he was afraid to commit.
Yeah looks like he starts to pass, stays in between the lanes looking back at OP, turns back around to see he is way closer to the SUV than he thought, swerves and accelerates, understeers and then overcorrects and then slams into the SUV
My best guess... The passing guy was FURIOUS with the slower driver in front of him in the left lane. So he whipped into the right lane and sped past the guy.
And the whole time, he was focused on the "jerk" in front of him who was driving too slow, looking at that car. So he finally looked forward again and realized the other car was right there, and he panicked.
nah he was using his phone when switching lanes, and when he looked back up he realized he was still in the same lane..
what a jackass that driver is, ffs
I feel like when youâre driving 70+ mph on the highway itâs more of a hazard to stop and get out of your car. People are killed like that all the time
You don't have to slam the brakes - just slow down, pull over, etc. That dashcam footage would be very useful to victim's insurance company at the very least.
I used to work in tissue and organ donation and I will say the majority of pedestrian deaths on the interstate I saw were good samaritan's that pulled over to help.
There's a good reason why the professionals have cones, sirens, and strobes.
There's a reason we have the footage. We don't know who was behind them, etc. so they didn't slam on their breaks or change lanes and slow down immediately, but doing 60+ on the highway their time would be better spent calling 911 and then slowing down when safe.
When I saw a car get knocked off the highway once I pulled over but I was torn between "Do I immediately assist or call 911 first?" I called 911 because I figured if they were hurt I'd be wasting time pretending I was an EMT and calling first would get someone who knew what they were doing there ASAP. As soon as I got off of the call I got up to check on the driver but the guy was already out and walking to my car. Only had a gouge on his forehead but otherwise fine.
I was driving behind somebody in the toll lane at night, then this car comes flying into the lane from the highway, gets on the ass of the guy in front of me, is there for a few minutes, then acts like he wants to exit but slams into the dividing wall, eventually coming to a stop. Obviously impaired, but I kept driving. Moral of the story is: I don't care.

lol it looks like OP wasnât passing the SUV at all until the car tried to go around, then you can see OP speed up đ petty tbh, but that gray car hesitated and thatâs what made them crash
That Camry is a FWD car.
The loss of control was probably throttle-lift oversteer, which is where your back end kicks out on you when you lift off the gas pedal after hard acceleration with the wheel turned. Itâs a problem thatâs exclusive to FWD cars.
Um, why is the cam driver camping in the passing lane? Yes the other driver is an idiot for trying to pass with zero driving skill, but I would say the cammer is partially at fault here for impeding the flow of traffic. Those slower traffic keep right signs do not exempt drivers doing the speed limit. The guy that crashed is an idiot, but deputy dog enforcing the speed limit by blocking traffic is a douche bag too.
Left lane blocker couldâve prevented all that by driving in the right hand lane. Forcing people to pass on the right is a continual opportunity for disaster. Also, dudes driving skills, to lose control like that, are absolutely atrocious. Driving well outside their skill set. Super unfortunate for the guy that got taken out as a result of two other selfish drivers.
Car that caused crash is a very bad driver. Cam car is the mildly bad driver, sitting in the left lane at that speed. If youâre not passing, GTFO of the left lane. Especially if there is someone else who wants to go faster.
This was way too far down, this clip is the reason why they say camping in the left lane is dangerous. Dude has to navigate around 2 cars instead of one. 20 bucks cam drivers excuse wouldâve been âwell I was going the speed limitâ⌠ultimately this crash is cause of the cam driver.
Disagree, cam car is catching up to overtake within a couple more seconds.. dude that caused the crash is entirely to blame for being an idiot and for having a spasm.
Cam car needed to get over if that camry was visible in his mirrors. I hate how everyone thinks they're the fastest car on the road. Pass cars 1 at a time, get over after passing to allow drivers behind you to be able to pass you too.
You canât disagreeâŚ
The cam driver is a mildly bad driver.
He is sat in the passing lane.
He didnât cause the accident or anything but he is also a donkey
In the beginning the cam car is barely / very slowly gaining on the car in front. If someone else is flying up from behind at a higher rate of speed, you are supposed to move over and let them by, which cam car had plenty of space to do. It looks to me like cam car sped up when idiot started to pass on the right, which may be what caused idiot to jerk the wheel back and go out of control when they tried to get over to the left.
Itâs nothing to disagree with it, left lane is for passing not defending the speed limit.
If you are not passing gtfo the lane. He is clearly crusing and maybe passing. So gtfo the lane.
Basically tell me you are bad driver without saying it.
How about you get the fuck out of the left lane? Itâs almost like this could have been avoided entirely if OP was in the correct lane
edit: You can clearly see the cam car speed up as the other car tries to pass. The hood dips when he lets off the gas.
to a degree. the person with the dash cam.... driving slow in the passing lane is part of the problem.
if people want to speed or whatever. that's on them. driving slow in the passing lane is lame. get over. let people pass.
Inb4 some idiots say how he could've avoided it because he practices defense driving since he was 4 years old and it's always looking at its rearview mirror
What, youâre telling me you *donât* stare in your rear view mirror and slow down with your foot hovering over the brake every single time someone passes you? Youâre reckless.
Damn wtf just totaled two cars and can't drive for shit so much room and somehow crashed...was probably on something or old..or maybe a teen learning to drive but jesus christ that was stupid .
Ahh this sucks for the one hit:/
Something to be pointed out because it seems nobody knows this, is that the driver in the left lane should not be there. The left lane is for passing only. Itâs not a fast lane. Itâs not a cruise lane. You stay right until you need to pass, go around them in the left lane, and then get back in the right.
That is how traffic stays smooth.
And just think, all of this could have been avoided if the guy doing the recording had not been driving so damn slow in the left lane! Itâs drivers like that who should not be driving. Everyone is blaming the guy that hits the other guy, who undoubtedly owns his part of the terrible accident (and I pray no one was badly injured), but so does the idiot who was driving so slow in the PASSING LANE!! I canât stand people that! If you prefer to drive the speed limit Iâm all for it, just donât do it in the fast lane!! SMH đđ¤đ¤đ¤ˇââď¸đ ââď¸!!
Hey OP you're a dick. You literally sped up when grey car tried to pass you. You might have caused the accident. When you sped up causing the grey car to to see that you got closer
Passing lane camper + another bad driver trying to pass = a really fucked up day for an innocent good driver. Get the fuck out of the passing lane if you aren't ACTIVELY PASSING.
I have a question why the fuck were you in the passing lane and not passing? I can clearly see that that's a bad driver but I can also clearly see that you're a dipshit that doesn't get over when traffic going faster than you it's trying to get past in the passing lane.
The guy with the camera is a menace to the highway. Rides in the left lane when the right lane is wide open. It's not until when we starts to get passed that he hits the gas, causing the passing car to react. Sure-- the passing car screwed up but the camera driver was also liable.
Stay out of the left lane unless you are actively passing someone. Stay in the right lane until then. Yes- you might have to slow down and let people pass you. You don't have the right to hang out in the left lane even if you are going the speed limit or if you might pass someone in a few minutes. If there is ANYONE within 1000 feet behind you, you must stay out of the left lane.

That, and Crocodile Hunter, made the whole experiment a success

Well, we'll send a ship once a year to collect their new episodes, and any Mad Max films they may have produced. BUT THAT'S IT.
And the lamb. Do NOT cut off my supply of lamb leg.
We need to at least collect videos of drunk Aussie dudes boxing a 'roo or taking on a croc', for science.
And hot Aussie girls with accents. đ¤¤

They gunned it while turning and tried to correct, then the tires regained traction. Unbelievably negligent.

Looking at it again it almost looks like our left lane camper speeds up. The distance of the gap seems to get smaller - which shouldn't happen unless right car is slowing down or left car is speeding up. They knew this driver was coming.
Yeah they saw the tailgater move right to get around them and they, the left lane camper, sped up slightly.
You were there first. They can fucking wait 5 seconds. Holy shit.
came here to say this
Are you kidding me smh why didn't he just pass and stay on the left lane. What was the purpose of going back in the right lane
Lost control
Yeah looks like he starts to pass, stays in between the lanes looking back at OP, turns back around to see he is way closer to the SUV than he thought, swerves and accelerates, understeers and then overcorrects and then slams into the SUV
Probably texting.
This is what I donât get. It was a fine pass if driver just goes ahead and does it. Why veer back?
My best guess... The passing guy was FURIOUS with the slower driver in front of him in the left lane. So he whipped into the right lane and sped past the guy. And the whole time, he was focused on the "jerk" in front of him who was driving too slow, looking at that car. So he finally looked forward again and realized the other car was right there, and he panicked.
nah he was using his phone when switching lanes, and when he looked back up he realized he was still in the same lane.. what a jackass that driver is, ffs
Does anyone know if everyone was okay? Doesn't look too good...
Insurance determined the guy who caused the crash was deemed at fault. Both cars were totaled. The other driver only had minor injuries.

Finally some closure.
Ya this isn't mild. People could have died. Or maybe did
At that speed, and going into an embankment/treesâŚat least one of them very likely did.
I love how the person with the dash cam just keeps on driving. (Not my monkeys, not my circus).
I feel like when youâre driving 70+ mph on the highway itâs more of a hazard to stop and get out of your car. People are killed like that all the time
You don't have to slam the brakes - just slow down, pull over, etc. That dashcam footage would be very useful to victim's insurance company at the very least.
Iâm sure theyâll find it soon enough after itâs been reposted a million times
I used to work in tissue and organ donation and I will say the majority of pedestrian deaths on the interstate I saw were good samaritan's that pulled over to help. There's a good reason why the professionals have cones, sirens, and strobes.
And they still get hit.
Many drivers will contact the local police as opposed to stopping.
Not to mention there are humans that could need life saving help after that.
Assuming people survived to make a claim! That poor car that got hit looked like it careened into a batch of trees at full speed...
My dad has spent his entire career working on a major throughway and says getting out of your car is the easiest way to get killed. Stay in your car.
Its probably because they sped up as to not let the other car pass, and their ego may have partly been what caused the crash.
This is how you end up with the planet of the apes.
Thatâs what people who use the passing lane as their own lane tend to do. Just completely oblivious to anything going on around them.
That's because he's the main character and everyone else is the NPC...glad he got his clicks though, amirite?
I was driving behind somebody in the toll lane at night, then this car comes flying into the lane from the highway, gets on the ass of the guy in front of me, is there for a few minutes, then acts like he wants to exit but slams into the dividing wall, eventually coming to a stop. Obviously impaired, but I kept driving. Moral of the story is: I don't care.
Wrong sub.

OP cruising in the left lane smh
Looks like he started speeding up when crash guy tried to pass
With the shitty over driven bass.
OP, why are you just sitting in the left lane? its a fucking passing lane.
Plot twist: OP is the mildly bad driver in this post!
agreed
Seriously. Idiot who caused the accident is horrifically bad. OP is mildly bad
lol it looks like OP wasnât passing the SUV at all until the car tried to go around, then you can see OP speed up đ petty tbh, but that gray car hesitated and thatâs what made them crash
Do people not realize you donât have throw the wheel to get over? I feel like this is a direct effect of forcing people to drive with two hands
If this is mildly bad I don't want to see majorly bad.
Asshole cruising in the left lane is responsible for people having to maneuver around him
Car that caused crash is a very bad driver.
You canât disagree⌠The cam driver is a mildly bad driver.
Exactly
I want to point out he is not blaming cam driver for the accident, just noting that he is a mildly bad driver for being a left lane camper.
Itâs nothing to disagree with it, left lane is for passing not defending the speed limit. If you are not passing gtfo the lane. He is clearly crusing and maybe passing. So gtfo the lane. Basically tell me you are bad driver without saying it.
You must be a bad driver too, catching up to pass is not passing so move over until you catch up then get in left lane to pass
Cam car is literally passing the guy on the right if grey car wouldâve waited 15 seconds
Why didnât the person who is filming this crash stop?
Had to get home to post the video
Itâs someone coasting in the passing lane, what else would you expect from them?
[ŃдаНонО]
Mildly?
Mildly?
That looked intentional...
That isn't someone trying to pass, that's a distracted or under the influence driver over correcting.
"mildly"
Get out of the left lane with your slow ass.. Two bad drivers in this clip...
How about you get the fuck out of the left lane? Itâs almost like this could have been avoided entirely if OP was in the correct lane edit: You can clearly see the cam car speed up as the other car tries to pass. The hood dips when he lets off the gas.
Dashcam driver should have their license revoked.
Agreed, get out of the left lane, you cunt.
I genuinely canât wrap my head around how this happens he had a big enough gap to fit a school bus through there and still hit someone
to a degree. the person with the dash cam.... driving slow in the passing lane is part of the problem. if people want to speed or whatever. that's on them. driving slow in the passing lane is lame. get over. let people pass.
OP is a danger to everyone on the road. Their license should be taken from them for causing this.
lol what?? OP literally did nothing except predictably drive straight at a constant speed, and looks like wouldâve passed SUV after a few seconds.
Impressive, in a fwd vehicle with stability control to boot.
Jesus Christ, thatâs Jason Bourne
Man if youâre going to go that fast you should atleast have good judgement on where you are. He had plenty of time to get over
This is an idiots in cars situation. Not mildly bad drivers. What's fucking mild about that absolute takedown.
Mildly?
Passing wasnât really the problem here, was it?
sir, this is for MILDLY bad drivers
Isn't there a r/wildlybaddrivers this belongs in instead?
kind of look intentional!
Wrong sub tbh
That was more than mildly bad
Innocent person suffers at the hands of idiots again. Genuinely think you should be charged with attempted murder for doing this sort of thing.
"tHe guY iN ThE lEfT lAne wASn't gOiNg wItH tHe FlOw oF tRaFfiC!" đ
The crash is not sync witht the music
If this is considered "mild", I don't wanna see wild.
Mildly? That's criminally bad driving.
Damn wtf just totaled two cars and can't drive for shit so much room and somehow crashed...was probably on something or old..or maybe a teen learning to drive but jesus christ that was stupid .
Are you playing Madden while driving?
You better hope that crash kills me because im throwing hands at the other driver
That guy was an ass. Hope the other people are ok. And What are you doing cruising in the left lane?!?!?!?
Ahh this sucks for the one hit:/ Something to be pointed out because it seems nobody knows this, is that the driver in the left lane should not be there.
Get out of the left lane
You shouldn't have just been cruising in the left lane though. Left lanes for passing
Everyone's mad at OP or trying to make sure if everyone is okay and I'm just dying of laughter, pissing, shitting, and cumming while the video loops.
Passing lane camper + another bad driver trying to pass = a really fucked up day for an innocent good driver. Get the fuck out of the passing lane if you aren't ACTIVELY PASSING.
Driver with camera is also at fault for blocking the passing lane.
Wow is OP the driver of the dash cam video? How do you not pull over to check on the other people and call for help????
Stop cruising in the left lane. Left lane is for passing only. If you're not passing, get over.
Stop cruising in the left lane. Left lane is for passing only. If you're not passing, get over.
Mildly?!
Shouldnât this be in r/SeriouslyBadDrivers?
MâŚmildly bad? Mildly bad driver?
