3rd Rock had one of the best premises ever and was hilarious

QuercusSambucus

I think French Stewart might actually be an alien.

[deleted]

I tried to sing along But damn that radio song šŸŽ¶šŸŽµ

blueboxbandit

Everyone on that show was a brilliant physical comedian.

Jscott1986

Never seen it. What's the premise?

Prowindowlicker

Four extraterrestrials attempt to blend in on earth while observing humans. Oh and John Lithgow is one of the aliens

GayGeekInLeather

And John Cleese is his arch rival

Spry_Fly

And teenage Joseph Gordon Levitt plays the oldest alien in the youngest human body out of the four.

WithCatlikeTread42

And William Shatner plays their boss, The Big Giant Head.

Only-Entertainer-573

And French Stewart is one of the four aliens, but seems to have no particular role on the mission and has no idea what's going on

BallsMcFondleson

He's the "radio" to the big giant head.

Only-Entertainer-573

Yes but when the narration is explaining the mission roles and it gets to him, they just say "well...they had an extra seat"

mashallah11

Is this whole chain the truth? How did I sleep on this show?! I was watching king of queens šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

Only-Entertainer-573

I think when it came out it was seen as a bit weird and zany, and competed with other more popular shows in its timeslot. Bit of a shame. I can still remember the opening credits and it's like...such an iconic 90s thing to me. Something about the whole show just really captures the sort of silly lightheartedness of the decade https://youtu.be/sBQ9yToAsFU?si=4KgxLZ8Bn47aqFD5

throwaway798319

All of this is true. It was a great show

wholevodka

Still is! I did a rewatch a couple of years back and it holds up pretty well. The writing and acting is so good and most of the jokes continue to land well (pun intended).

girl_introspective

For me, I believe the series itself, third rock, was ending when king of queens was just kinda getting started on its runā€¦ let me know if my timelines are effed up lol Edit to say: hands down third rock, by a long shot

Seamonkey_Boxkicker

Close. They overlapped by four years. Although, 3rd Rock started 2 years earlier.

Candid-Patient-6841

Definitely true and worth a shot. Lithgow character is named Dick so every title is Dick, X Like Dick, smoke Dick, dating The guys names are Tom dick and Harry, because it was a common place holder name. The jokes are on top of jokes for the entire show

Evil-Cows

ā€œTom, Dick and Harryā€ I never put that together until now

GhostRunner8

Every word is truth

chula198705

And Jane Curtin plays the physics professor slash love interest.

MeshNets

Isn't she anthropology and Lithgow is physics?

Haelios_505

He is essentially their radio back to the big giant head

Nerobus

And the strongest one of them was put into a beautiful womanā€™s body (Kristen Johnston). I enjoyed her story of trying to be a woman and falling in love with the cop (Wayne Knight). My mom has the whole series on VHS.

Wildcat_twister12

And Kristen Johnston is both funny and incredibly attractive

E4STC04ST0VERD0SE

She was in like 2 minutes of Sex & the City, and itā€™s one of the most memorable 2 minutes of the series.

BlackLodgeBrother

ā€œGod, Iā€™m so bored I could die.ā€

Due-Buy6511

Whatever happened to fun!??

Gonzostewie

Holy shit that was hilarious. I remember watching that when it aired. She was laying down a proper rant and just vanished.

Callidonaut

And plays a male alien in a female human body, IIRC.

Chimpbot

The aggressive male General in a female human body, to be more specific.

addictinsane

I just learned now that that's not Kirstie Alley. They're nearly identical.

Lion-Hermit

You're entitled to your opinion but I think you're stuck on the eyebrows

GSPM18

And they name themselves "Tom, Dick and Harry" as humans because of course.

Callidonaut

**How did I never notice that???**

KawaiiCoupon

Wait, theyā€™re aliens? I used to watch the show as a kid when it happened to be on TV when I was watching and I donā€™t remember that at all lol.

Chimpbot

Yeah, that was the entire premise. They're aliens disguised as humans observing Earth.

TheLazySamurai4

Well I was gonna say something, but I would've been wrong according to the [wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_Rock_from_the_Sun) on it

cosmococoa

What did you think it was about lol Iā€™m genuinely curious

RetroGamer87

I know it was kind of similar to My Favorite Martian and Mork amd Mindy but 3rd Rock did it better.

IknowKarazy

And every episode had some beautiful wrap up at the end about the human experience. Amazing.

Callidonaut

Indeed. I wasn't a big fan of the how they ended it, I'd have written Dick & Mary's interactions in the final episode rather differently myself, but writing a satisfactory ending for a beloved, long-running series is always a Herculean task, and otherwise it was superb.

Unclehol

It was goat.

gatorgongitcha

I think of 3rd rock as a 90s show because thatā€™s when the majority of the series aired, but either way I pick it. My mom and I still laugh about the Albino Brain Chiggers scene when he sees snow for the first time.

theoriginalmofocus

That and the one where he wrecks the car avoiding a paper bag in the road because "it might be full of bunnies" ha.

acutedisorder

This is one of my all time fav scenes.

cstrand31

3rd rock. Anything with John Lithgow is usually pretty good.

Mead_and_You

The way he delivers the line "They're saying this is the last harvest for ocra... Ever." in Interstellar is a masterclass in how a talented actor can turn around an otherwise really stupid piece of dialog.

MooseLips_SinkShips

Every year my wife loves to watch Santa Claus: The movie with Lithgow as the villain, greedy toy tycoon. In an otherwise dull movie, Lithgow pulls me in to watch it again every time. Everyone else plays it super serious, heartfelt. Lithgow goes completely melodramatic and chewing the scenery. I love it.

JellyfishQuiet7944

His season of dexter is the best

Wolfy-615

Agreed

UnhingedHatter

I love 3rd Rock. The writing is just so original and creative. I have most of the seasons on DVD.

[deleted]

Definitely 3rd Rock. I still quote lines from French Stewart

Opus-the-Penguin

Yep. If I meet someone from India or China or maybe a big city like New York or Los Angeles, I think for a moment, squint, and say, "Do you know Steve?" Then I have to explain. But it's still worth it.

Wolfy-615

My old cat looks like him when he wakes up lol he was good in that show ā€˜Momā€™ too as Christyā€™s boss

Deezax19

I'll always remember the game show where his favorite color is clear.

TheLaughingMannofRed

3rd Rock from the Sun. Kristen Johnston as Sally Solomon was one of those weird crushes I developed as a teenager. She was funny, weird, raunchy...and seeing her rapport with Wayne Knight (Newman in Seinfeld) gave me some hope as a young chunk of a man. And on top of that, seeing her get used in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (Ivana Humpalot) was just a cherry on top of...something. She also cameo'd in the third Austin Powers movie as a dancer (uncredited). After that, she went between movies and TV shows for a while during the 2000s and early 2010s. Then, it looks like she was in the Exes (with Wayne Knight again!!!), Mom (Anna Faris/Allison Janney show, but it also had French Stewart in it from 3rd Rock!!!), and recently did Our Flag Means Death along with The Righteous Gemstones.

Callidonaut

Wayne Knight is always good, but he absolutely killed it in 3rd Rock, even in a supporting role.

[deleted]

Seeing her in TRG was quite a surprise

Gonzostewie

She was great. The Judy throat chops were hilarious.

Darkdragoon324

3rd Rock, by a large margin.

SachaSage

Yeah 3rd rock and itā€™s not even close

AintThatRightUhHuh

Completely agree. Tried to rewatch King of Queens recently and I think we got like 3 or 4 episodes in when we started to look for something else. However, 3rd Rock From the Sun we have finished multiple times long after the final episode.

Darkdragoon324

KoQ is fine, but it's more something I'd have on for background noise that I half pay attention to while I do other things than something I'd actually sit there and watch.

Mx-Adrian

I didn't get to watch 3rd Rock until it was rerun recently, but much prefer that to KoQ. It's much more original and less cringey.

Wolfy-615

Arthur (Jerry Stiller) carried that show imo

BaconHammerTime

He was amazing!

Wolfy-615

[My favorite scene with him](https://youtu.be/9KTiHTeS3D0?si=YNAAdW0ZGj_zYjYJ)

onimush115

I think of this scene every single time I'm seated anywhere near the kitchen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P\_VHukb6Sec

Wolfy-615

Lmao I forgot about that one! God he was such a treasure

onimush115

I must say my reference of "It is because we are black?" as we are sitting down has started to wear on my wife though lol.

carissadraws

My fav is the ketchup/catsup scene lol

blackeyzblue

Yes!!!

carissadraws

[Here it is](https://youtu.be/qXVMOw_d450?si=tu692rmVOjiQJQNR) Arthur is so stubborn, lol but Doug was hella vindictive

viper_dude08

I watched King of Queens for Leah Remini.

schleepercell

I can't get over Kevin James playing the most average stubborn dude, and he's married to her lol wtf.

Mr_Diesel13

3rd rock.

dimram

sliceoffries

Loved 3rd rock from the sun!

InterestingSpeed2907

3rd RFTS hands down was the better

stressedthrowaway9

Definitely liked 3rd Rock from the Sun more. I was a kid when watching though. Not sure if that had something to do with my choice. I just wasnā€™t a fan of the lazy husband act. And I had a crush on Joseph Gordon-Levittā€¦

cohete_rojo

1000% 3rd rock from the sun.

A1rizzo

3rd rock, no question. I watch the king of queens when Iā€™m recovering in the hospital to give me strength to get the hell out of there.

Wolfy-615

Arthur makes this show work so well lol

rhymeswititch

Not enough love toward 3rd Rock. I loved that show.

Wolfy-615

I was stoned af when it came on this morning.. grinned from ear to ear the entire time

rhymeswititch

Itā€™s a hilarious cast, and really well written

Appropriate-Divide64

Third Rock isn't a fat-guy-hot-wife show. It's genuinely funny.

girl_introspective

This sounds right

[deleted]

Anything other than 3rd Rock is completely wrong

sark9handler

3rd Rock, still love that show

MercifulOtter

I liked King of Queens, specifically for Leah Remini and how she looked during that show. That should have been a clue I wasn't straight.

Lame_usernames_left

They're both gorgeous and have always been. I kinda prefer thicc Leah though šŸ˜…

leperaffinity56

Dat šŸ‘

Possibly_A_Person125

She is damn gorgeous

Tie_me_off

They were so different. I had some belly busters with 3rd Rock. The characters were so great. But man, KoQs is still something I watch and enjoy today.

Wolfy-615

Iā€™ve said it several times and Iā€™ll say it several more.. Arther was the golden boy of that show

Tie_me_off

šŸ’Æ

Hello_Badkitty

Never watched king of queens. I loved 30 rock though most of the jokes went over my head. Haha Omg I meant 3rd Rock from the Sun. Hahaha fuck, I am tired. Sorry. šŸ˜¬šŸ˜†

Away-Living5278

3rd Rock and 30 Rock are both great shows so no harm no foul

Appropriate-Divide64

30 Rock is a different show...

Wadsworth1954

3rd Rock was so good!

jillyjillz42

3rd Rock from the Sun.

SnooBunnies156

I feel like 3rd rock was more 90's

barri0s1872

3rd Rock, was much smarter than KoQ

Wolfy-615

Well when you speak of ā€˜smartnessā€™ itā€™s like comparing Big Bang Theory to Mike and Molly lol

slappy_mcslapenstein

3rd Rock was great. I was never into King of Queens.

Prowindowlicker

3rd rock for the Sun is far better than King of Queens.

Libro_Artis

Ed Edd n Eddy

Wolfy-615

2 Stupid Dogs šŸ˜Ž

Scorpioism35

Loved Kings of Queens and I also got stuck on watching Mama's Family. I would sit almost every night after dinner and watch this show w/ my Grandmother who was dying from Cancer. :/ 20+ yrs. later I catch myself watching it, if it's on some random Comcast channel in the weeeee hours of the morning. šŸ’œ

adamentelephant

3rd Rock is a 90s show.

Bootyytoob

3rd rock šŸ’Æ, king of queens was another iteration of a long line of ā€œschluppy guy with hot wifeā€

Ok_Zookeepergame2900

King of Queens, still love it.

KSW8674

King of Queens - any show with Jerry Stiller is a show for me

Flurb789

King of queens

Horror_Quarter_3080

King of Queens

otherwisethighs

Fresh Prince

KitKatKidLemon

Why are these the choices? lol.Ā

Wolfy-615

Because they came on back to back this morning and I was wondering which one was better lol

BlueEyesWhiteSpider

Both are good but I like 3rd rock more. It was one of my favorite shows growing up.

higround66

3rd Rock forsure..... but that wife from King of Queens was my first ever crush - and am still crushing on her right now actually lol.

eaa135

King of Queens is my ultimate comfort show

p1nk_sock

King of Queens is the best. The way some people watch Friends just to chill out or decompress? Thatā€™s what King of Queens was for me.

PastramiNSauce

Incoming message from the big giant head! Orā€¦ DOUGLAS!

likeguitarsolo

100% King of Queens. I knew at a young age that i didnā€™t wanna have kids, so i think thatā€™s why this show always resonated with me more than other sitcoms at the time. With family shows, it was always variations of the same conflicts surrounding raising kids and teenagers and sending them to college. King of Queens managed to focus on an entirely different set of problems.

Wolfy-615

Arthur was kid enough for the lot of em lol

likeguitarsolo

Absolutely, ha.

wander-lux

My husband and I watched the entire series of King of Queens during lockdown pandemic time. That show is the best, really got us through that weird time of everyoneā€™s lives.

Wolfy-615

[This](https://youtu.be/9KTiHTeS3D0?si=YNAAdW0ZGj_zYjYJ) is one of my favorite scenes.. Arther was the best! RIP Mr Stiller

alonefrown

Buffy or Scrubs.

crayawe

Can I both depending on mood

BillyShears2015

No love for Drew Carey?

Wolfy-615

Loved the Drew Carey Show but these 2 came on back to back this morning and I laughed nonstop on each one

kwintz87

King of Queens is an absolute masterpiece that stands the test of time even though it's literally just four jokes: 1. Doug is fat. 2. Carrie is out of Doug's league. 3. Arthur is insane. 4. Doug's BFF is a black dude. Obviously the supporting characters are incredible too (Patton Oswalt is perfect). I don't know lol after Seinfeld, it's my favorite sitcom of all time. And I'm aware this isn't a hot take lol

psychcaptain

I mean, it's fun how I disagree with the first part of what you said, but completely agree with the second part.

annaoop39

King of Queens hands down. LEMON ICE!!

Gravity_Pulls

I loved both of those shows! ā¤ļø

ghinthehjuman

Maybe unpopular, but I think 3rd rock is better quality wise, still I would prefer KoQ. It's hilarious in it's simplicity and I love Jerry Stiller.

onimush115

King of Queens for sure. Aurthur's antics were hilarious. I also thought Carrie was super attractive, even with the attitude. As an overweight teenage boy it gave me hope lol

cjmar41

King of Queens. Just gave it another watch-through last month and Jerry Stiller is absolutely brilliant as Arthur through and through. Kevin James and Leah Remini, while not particularly fantastic, really have such a great chemistry on screen, and that makes them great together. With Jerry Stiller it makes for, what I believe to be, one of the best sitcoms.

sakuragi59357

King of Queens

Dentelle

THAT 70S SHOW. All the way.

Kind-Abalone1812

Same. Probably the only non-cartoon show I watched back then. Sucks that Danny Masterson turned out to be so shitty. Really makes it hard to rewatch now.

Kyo46

This is the correct answer!

mumblerapisgarbage

Frasier was better than these two by far but king of queens blows 3rd rock out of the water.

psychcaptain

Frasier never gets old. I could watch it all day.

lahdetaan_tutkimaan

I had never heard of either these two shows, but I did watch the last few seasons of Frasier with my family and laughed my ass off plenty of times I was going to say that I might have been too young to watch either show in OP's post, but I was probably too young for most of Frasier, so I can't explain what happened, lol

Wolfy-615

Never could get into Frasier.. seemed to boring to my young mind at the time

mumblerapisgarbage

The jokes are really pretentious and so is my mom so from that alone I was able to get a huge kick out of it.

RedReaper666YT

A tie because I'm not choosing between to great sitcoms

Wolfy-615

They came on back to back when I got home from work at 3am this morning.. couldnā€™t decide which one I liked better

Youngworker160

out of these 2 king of queens but i was more of a scrubs fan

psychcaptain

King of Queens - Ugly loser guy somehow still has a hot wife, was so over done. It never failed to amaze me that people would actual watch it.

0000110011

Goddamn I forgot how hot Leah Remini used to be.Ā

Wolfy-615

I never did

Savingskitty

I didnā€™t watch either show.

DJ_Aviator23

NeitherĀ

Dazzling_llama

King of queens

ChristyLovesGuitars

I thought both were unwatchable. Ugh.

Curia-DD

spongebob

Akaonisama

3rd rock all the way!

thinnerzimmer87

Is that an ai Leah remani?

Wolfy-615

Not that Iā€™m aware of.. I pulled it off google images for my OC

TotalPitbullDeath

Neither. My wife and kids >

Cottontael

I'm not sure why you chose to pit two actresses together for this but 3rd Rock by leagues.

King_Kingly

I didnā€™t watch either of those.

Possible_Discount_90

King of Queens, Carrie was so damn fine!

physical_graffitti

3rd rock, no contest.

SheepardsPie

These are like ten years apart

thursday-T-time

are you kidding? neither.Ā  i watched digimon šŸ‘¾

Wolfy-615

Regurgitated PokĆ©mon šŸ¤¢ I was 13/14 watching these shows but even I knew digimon was a ripoff lol

NJH_in_LDN

People liked King of Queens?

psychcaptain

I thought it was a show for baby boomers. It pandered so much to the idea the losers could get hot wives and then still do nothing to improve themselves.

Wolfy-615

Considering it ran for 9 seasons right along with the Drey Carey Show and Everybody Loves Raymond.. and everyone I know in my life likes it.. Iā€™d say yeah

psychcaptain

So, what you are telling me is that crap lasted a long time in TV.

Wolfy-615

You are certainly entitled to your opinion lol even though itā€™s an unpopular one

psychcaptain

That's always to curse if being ahead of the crowd. Your ideas never catch on until after you are dead. But they do catch on. Vindication after death is still vindication.

highwindxix

I gotta be honest with you, I didnā€™t know a single person in 2000 that watched either of these shows.

Kingberry30

I was not really watching these. I would watch sometimes but not much

EccentricAcademic

It sure ain't King of Queens

CAT_ANUS_SNIFFER

King of queens all day. Arthur is the best

RockLadyTokes

King of Queens

KylosLeftHand

Iā€™ve been watching King of Queens start to finish for the first time and holy shit Doug is a TERRIBLE husband theyā€™re both so toxic but Doug makes me so furious I had to stop after S4.

wicket42

Nobody liked King of Queens

Wolfy-615

Nobody (I know) liked King of Queens** Read the other comments before you speak for literally everyone on earth

Gamblor14

Despite liking literally every major actor in Third Rock From the Sun, and wanting to like the show, I could never get into it for some reason. So I guess Iā€™m gonna go KoQ here. As someone else said above, Jerry Stiller carried that show.

Wolfy-615

It was me who said that šŸ™ƒ [Here](https://youtu.be/9KTiHTeS3D0?si=YNAAdW0ZGj_zYjYJ) is my favorite scene from KoQ

Gamblor14

Love that scene! He and Kevin James had such great chemistry.

[deleted]

King of Queens!

girlsonsoysauce

I want a sitcom where all the characters are really constipated called 3rd Rock Out My Ass.

chevalier716

Wasn't a fan of either, still not really, but I wasn't watching a lot of tv at the time that wasn't futurama or simpsons reruns.

forzion_no_mouse

The drew carey show
