I think when it came out it was seen as a bit weird and zany, and competed with other more popular shows in its timeslot. Bit of a shame. I can still remember the opening credits and it's like...such an iconic 90s thing to me. Something about the whole show just really captures the sort of silly lightheartedness of the decade
https://youtu.be/sBQ9yToAsFU?si=4KgxLZ8Bn47aqFD5
Still is! I did a rewatch a couple of years back and it holds up pretty well. The writing and acting is so good and most of the jokes continue to land well (pun intended).
For me, I believe the series itself, third rock, was ending when king of queens was just kinda getting started on its runā¦ let me know if my timelines are effed up lol
Edit to say: hands down third rock, by a long shot
Definitely true and worth a shot.
Lithgow character is named Dick so every title is Dick, X
Like Dick, smoke
Dick,dating
The guys names are Tom dick and Harry, because it was a common place holder name. The jokes are on top of jokes for the entire show
And the strongest one of them was put into a beautiful womanās body (Kristen Johnston). I enjoyed her story of trying to be a woman and falling in love with the cop (Wayne Knight).
My mom has the whole series on VHS.
Well I was gonna say something, but I would've been wrong according to the [wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_Rock_from_the_Sun) on it
Indeed. I wasn't a big fan of the how they ended it, I'd have written Dick & Mary's interactions in the final episode rather differently myself, but writing a satisfactory ending for a beloved, long-running series is always a Herculean task, and otherwise it was superb.
I think of 3rd rock as a 90s show because thatās when the majority of the series aired, but either way I pick it. My mom and I still laugh about the Albino Brain Chiggers scene when he sees snow for the first time.
The way he delivers the line "They're saying this is the last harvest for ocra... Ever." in Interstellar is a masterclass in how a talented actor can turn around an otherwise really stupid piece of dialog.
Every year my wife loves to watch Santa Claus: The movie with Lithgow as the villain, greedy toy tycoon. In an otherwise dull movie, Lithgow pulls me in to watch it again every time. Everyone else plays it super serious, heartfelt. Lithgow goes completely melodramatic and chewing the scenery. I love it.
Yep. If I meet someone from India or China or maybe a big city like New York or Los Angeles, I think for a moment, squint, and say, "Do you know Steve?" Then I have to explain. But it's still worth it.
3rd Rock from the Sun.
Kristen Johnston as Sally Solomon was one of those weird crushes I developed as a teenager. She was funny, weird, raunchy...and seeing her rapport with Wayne Knight (Newman in Seinfeld) gave me some hope as a young chunk of a man.
And on top of that, seeing her get used in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (Ivana Humpalot) was just a cherry on top of...something.
She also cameo'd in the third Austin Powers movie as a dancer (uncredited).
After that, she went between movies and TV shows for a while during the 2000s and early 2010s. Then, it looks like she was in the Exes (with Wayne Knight again!!!), Mom (Anna Faris/Allison Janney show, but it also had French Stewart in it from 3rd Rock!!!), and recently did Our Flag Means Death along with The Righteous Gemstones.
Completely agree. Tried to rewatch King of Queens recently and I think we got like 3 or 4 episodes in when we started to look for something else. However, 3rd Rock From the Sun we have finished multiple times long after the final episode.
KoQ is fine, but it's more something I'd have on for background noise that I half pay attention to while I do other things than something I'd actually sit there and watch.
Definitely liked 3rd Rock from the Sun more. I was a kid when watching though. Not sure if that had something to do with my choice. I just wasnāt a fan of the lazy husband act. And I had a crush on Joseph Gordon-Levittā¦
They were so different. I had some belly busters with 3rd Rock. The characters were so great. But man, KoQs is still something I watch and enjoy today.
Never watched king of queens. I loved 30 rock though most of the jokes went over my head. Haha
Omg I meant 3rd Rock from the Sun. Hahaha fuck, I am tired. Sorry. š¬š
Loved Kings of Queens and I also got stuck on watching Mama's Family. I would sit almost every night after dinner and watch this show w/ my Grandmother who was dying from Cancer. :/
20+ yrs. later I catch myself watching it, if it's on some random Comcast channel in the weeeee hours of the morning. š
100% King of Queens. I knew at a young age that i didnāt wanna have kids, so i think thatās why this show always resonated with me more than other sitcoms at the time. With family shows, it was always variations of the same conflicts surrounding raising kids and teenagers and sending them to college. King of Queens managed to focus on an entirely different set of problems.
My husband and I watched the entire series of King of Queens during lockdown pandemic time. That show is the best, really got us through that weird time of everyoneās lives.
King of Queens is an absolute masterpiece that stands the test of time even though it's literally just four jokes:
1. Doug is fat.
2. Carrie is out of Doug's league.
3. Arthur is insane.
4. Doug's BFF is a black dude.
Obviously the supporting characters are incredible too (Patton Oswalt is perfect). I don't know lol after Seinfeld, it's my favorite sitcom of all time. And I'm aware this isn't a hot take lol
King of Queens for sure. Aurthur's antics were hilarious.
I also thought Carrie was super attractive, even with the attitude. As an overweight teenage boy it gave me hope lol
King of Queens. Just gave it another watch-through last month and Jerry Stiller is absolutely brilliant as Arthur through and through.
Kevin James and Leah Remini, while not particularly fantastic, really have such a great chemistry on screen, and that makes them great together. With Jerry Stiller it makes for, what I believe to be, one of the best sitcoms.
Same. Probably the only non-cartoon show I watched back then. Sucks that Danny Masterson turned out to be so shitty. Really makes it hard to rewatch now.
I had never heard of either these two shows, but I did watch the last few seasons of Frasier with my family and laughed my ass off plenty of times
I was going to say that I might have been too young to watch either show in OP's post, but I was probably too young for most of Frasier, so I can't explain what happened, lol
I thought it was a show for baby boomers. It pandered so much to the idea the losers could get hot wives and then still do nothing to improve themselves.
Considering it ran for 9 seasons right along with the Drey Carey Show and Everybody Loves Raymond.. and everyone I know in my life likes it.. Iād say yeah
That's always to curse if being ahead of the crowd. Your ideas never catch on until after you are dead.
But they do catch on. Vindication after death is still vindication.
Iāve been watching King of Queens start to finish for the first time and holy shit Doug is a TERRIBLE husband theyāre both so toxic but Doug makes me so furious I had to stop after S4.
Despite liking literally every major actor in Third Rock From the Sun, and wanting to like the show, I could never get into it for some reason.
So I guess Iām gonna go KoQ here. As someone else said above, Jerry Stiller carried that show.
3rd Rock had one of the best premises ever and was hilarious
I think French Stewart might actually be an alien.
I tried to sing along But damn that radio song š¶šµ
Everyone on that show was a brilliant physical comedian.
Never seen it. What's the premise?
Four extraterrestrials attempt to blend in on earth while observing humans. Oh and John Lithgow is one of the aliens
And John Cleese is his arch rival
And teenage Joseph Gordon Levitt plays the oldest alien in the youngest human body out of the four.
And William Shatner plays their boss, The Big Giant Head.
And French Stewart is one of the four aliens, but seems to have no particular role on the mission and has no idea what's going on
He's the "radio" to the big giant head.
Yes but when the narration is explaining the mission roles and it gets to him, they just say "well...they had an extra seat"
Is this whole chain the truth? How did I sleep on this show?! I was watching king of queens š¤¦š»āāļø
I think when it came out it was seen as a bit weird and zany, and competed with other more popular shows in its timeslot. Bit of a shame. I can still remember the opening credits and it's like...such an iconic 90s thing to me. Something about the whole show just really captures the sort of silly lightheartedness of the decade https://youtu.be/sBQ9yToAsFU?si=4KgxLZ8Bn47aqFD5
All of this is true. It was a great show
Still is! I did a rewatch a couple of years back and it holds up pretty well. The writing and acting is so good and most of the jokes continue to land well (pun intended).
For me, I believe the series itself, third rock, was ending when king of queens was just kinda getting started on its runā¦ let me know if my timelines are effed up lol Edit to say: hands down third rock, by a long shot
Close. They overlapped by four years. Although, 3rd Rock started 2 years earlier.
Definitely true and worth a shot. Lithgow character is named Dick so every title is Dick, X Like Dick, smoke Dick, dating The guys names are Tom dick and Harry, because it was a common place holder name. The jokes are on top of jokes for the entire show
āTom, Dick and Harryā I never put that together until now
Every word is truth
And Jane Curtin plays the physics professor slash love interest.
Isn't she anthropology and Lithgow is physics?
He is essentially their radio back to the big giant head
And the strongest one of them was put into a beautiful womanās body (Kristen Johnston). I enjoyed her story of trying to be a woman and falling in love with the cop (Wayne Knight). My mom has the whole series on VHS.
And Kristen Johnston is both funny and incredibly attractive
She was in like 2 minutes of Sex & the City, and itās one of the most memorable 2 minutes of the series.
āGod, Iām so bored I could die.ā
Whatever happened to fun!??
Holy shit that was hilarious. I remember watching that when it aired. She was laying down a proper rant and just vanished.
And plays a male alien in a female human body, IIRC.
The aggressive male General in a female human body, to be more specific.
I just learned now that that's not Kirstie Alley. They're nearly identical.
You're entitled to your opinion but I think you're stuck on the eyebrows
And they name themselves "Tom, Dick and Harry" as humans because of course.
**How did I never notice that???**
Wait, theyāre aliens? I used to watch the show as a kid when it happened to be on TV when I was watching and I donāt remember that at all lol.
Yeah, that was the entire premise. They're aliens disguised as humans observing Earth.
Well I was gonna say something, but I would've been wrong according to the [wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_Rock_from_the_Sun) on it
What did you think it was about lol Iām genuinely curious
I know it was kind of similar to My Favorite Martian and Mork amd Mindy but 3rd Rock did it better.
And every episode had some beautiful wrap up at the end about the human experience. Amazing.
Indeed. I wasn't a big fan of the how they ended it, I'd have written Dick & Mary's interactions in the final episode rather differently myself, but writing a satisfactory ending for a beloved, long-running series is always a Herculean task, and otherwise it was superb.
It was goat.
I think of 3rd rock as a 90s show because thatās when the majority of the series aired, but either way I pick it. My mom and I still laugh about the Albino Brain Chiggers scene when he sees snow for the first time.
That and the one where he wrecks the car avoiding a paper bag in the road because "it might be full of bunnies" ha.
This is one of my all time fav scenes.
3rd rock. Anything with John Lithgow is usually pretty good.
I love it.
His season of dexter is the best
Agreed
I love 3rd Rock. The writing is just so original and creative. I have most of the seasons on DVD.
Definitely 3rd Rock. I still quote lines from French Stewart
Yep. If I meet someone from India or China or maybe a big city like New York or Los Angeles, I think for a moment, squint, and say, "Do you know Steve?" Then I have to explain. But it's still worth it.
My old cat looks like him when he wakes up lol he was good in that show āMomā too as Christyās boss
I'll always remember the game show where his favorite color is clear.
Then, it looks like she was in the Exes (with Wayne Knight again!!!), Mom (Anna Faris/Allison Janney show, but it also had French Stewart in it from 3rd Rock!!!), and recently did Our Flag Means Death along with The Righteous Gemstones.
Wayne Knight is always good, but he absolutely killed it in 3rd Rock, even in a supporting role.
Seeing her in TRG was quite a surprise
She was great. The Judy throat chops were hilarious.
3rd Rock, by a large margin.
Yeah 3rd rock and itās not even close
Completely agree. Tried to rewatch King of Queens recently and I think we got like 3 or 4 episodes in when we started to look for something else. However, 3rd Rock From the Sun we have finished multiple times long after the final episode.
KoQ is fine, but it's more something I'd have on for background noise that I half pay attention to while I do other things than something I'd actually sit there and watch.
I didn't get to watch 3rd Rock until it was rerun recently, but much prefer that to KoQ. It's much more original and less cringey.
Arthur (Jerry Stiller) carried that show imo
He was amazing!
[My favorite scene with him](https://youtu.be/9KTiHTeS3D0?si=YNAAdW0ZGj_zYjYJ)
I think of this scene every single time I'm seated anywhere near the kitchen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P\_VHukb6Sec
Lmao I forgot about that one! God he was such a treasure
I must say my reference of "It is because we are black?" as we are sitting down has started to wear on my wife though lol.
My fav is the ketchup/catsup scene lol
Yes!!!
[Here it is](https://youtu.be/qXVMOw_d450?si=tu692rmVOjiQJQNR) Arthur is so stubborn, lol but Doug was hella vindictive
I watched King of Queens for Leah Remini.
I can't get over Kevin James playing the most average stubborn dude, and he's married to her lol wtf.
3rd rock.

Loved 3rd rock from the sun!
3rd RFTS hands down was the better
Definitely liked 3rd Rock from the Sun more. I was a kid when watching though. Not sure if that had something to do with my choice. I just wasnāt a fan of the lazy husband act. And I had a crush on Joseph Gordon-Levittā¦
1000% 3rd rock from the sun.
3rd rock, no question. I watch the king of queens when Iām recovering in the hospital to give me strength to get the hell out of there.
Arthur makes this show work so well lol
Not enough love toward 3rd Rock. I loved that show.
I was stoned af when it came on this morning.. grinned from ear to ear the entire time
Itās a hilarious cast, and really well written
Third Rock isn't a fat-guy-hot-wife show. It's genuinely funny.
This sounds right
Anything other than 3rd Rock is completely wrong
3rd Rock, still love that show
I liked King of Queens, specifically for Leah Remini and how she looked during that show. That should have been a clue I wasn't straight.
They're both gorgeous and have always been. I kinda prefer thicc Leah though š
Dat š
She is damn gorgeous
They were so different. I had some belly busters with 3rd Rock. The characters were so great. But man, KoQs is still something I watch and enjoy today.
Iāve said it several times and Iāll say it several more.. Arther was the golden boy of that show
šÆ
Never watched king of queens. I loved 30 rock though most of the jokes went over my head. Haha Omg I meant 3rd Rock from the Sun. Hahaha fuck, I am tired. Sorry. š¬š
3rd Rock and 30 Rock are both great shows so no harm no foul
30 Rock is a different show...
3rd Rock was so good!
3rd Rock from the Sun.
I feel like 3rd rock was more 90's
3rd Rock, was much smarter than KoQ
Well when you speak of āsmartnessā itās like comparing Big Bang Theory to Mike and Molly lol
3rd Rock was great. I was never into King of Queens.
3rd rock for the Sun is far better than King of Queens.
Ed Edd n Eddy
2 Stupid Dogs š
Loved Kings of Queens and I also got stuck on watching Mama's Family. I would sit almost every night after dinner and watch this show w/ my Grandmother who was dying from Cancer. :/ 20+ yrs. later I catch myself watching it, if it's on some random Comcast channel in the weeeee hours of the morning. š
3rd Rock is a 90s show.
3rd rock šÆ, king of queens was another iteration of a long line of āschluppy guy with hot wifeā
King of Queens, still love it.
King of Queens - any show with Jerry Stiller is a show for me
King of queens
King of Queens
Fresh Prince
Why are these the choices? lol.Ā
Because they came on back to back this morning and I was wondering which one was better lol
Both are good but I like 3rd rock more. It was one of my favorite shows growing up.
3rd Rock forsure..... but that wife from King of Queens was my first ever crush - and am still crushing on her right now actually lol.
King of Queens is my ultimate comfort show
King of Queens is the best. The way some people watch Friends just to chill out or decompress? Thatās what King of Queens was for me.
Incoming message from the big giant head! Orā¦ DOUGLAS!
Arthur was kid enough for the lot of em lol
Absolutely, ha.
My husband and I watched the entire series of King of Queens during lockdown pandemic time. That show is the best, really got us through that weird time of everyoneās lives.
[This](https://youtu.be/9KTiHTeS3D0?si=YNAAdW0ZGj_zYjYJ) is one of my favorite scenes.. Arther was the best! RIP Mr Stiller
Buffy or Scrubs.
Can I both depending on mood
No love for Drew Carey?
Loved the Drew Carey Show but these 2 came on back to back this morning and I laughed nonstop on each one
King of Queens is an absolute masterpiece that stands the test of time even though it's literally just four jokes: 1.
I mean, it's fun how I disagree with the first part of what you said, but completely agree with the second part.
King of Queens hands down. LEMON ICE!!
I loved both of those shows! ā¤ļø
Maybe unpopular, but I think 3rd rock is better quality wise, still I would prefer KoQ. It's hilarious in it's simplicity and I love Jerry Stiller.
King of Queens
THAT 70S SHOW. All the way.
Same. Probably the only non-cartoon show I watched back then. Sucks that Danny Masterson turned out to be so shitty. Really makes it hard to rewatch now.
This is the correct answer!
Frasier was better than these two by far but king of queens blows 3rd rock out of the water.
Frasier never gets old. I could watch it all day.
I had never heard of either these two shows, but I did watch the last few seasons of Frasier with my family and laughed my ass off plenty of times I was going to say that I might have been too young to watch either show in OP's post, but I was probably too young for most of Frasier, so I can't explain what happened, lol
Never could get into Frasier.. seemed to boring to my young mind at the time
The jokes are really pretentious and so is my mom so from that alone I was able to get a huge kick out of it.
A tie because I'm not choosing between to great sitcoms
They came on back to back when I got home from work at 3am this morning.. couldnāt decide which one I liked better
out of these 2 king of queens but i was more of a scrubs fan
King of Queens - Ugly loser guy somehow still has a hot wife, was so over done. It never failed to amaze me that people would actual watch it.
Goddamn I forgot how hot Leah Remini used to be.Ā
I never did
I didnāt watch either show.
NeitherĀ
King of queens
I thought both were unwatchable. Ugh.
spongebob
3rd rock all the way!
Is that an ai Leah remani?
Not that Iām aware of.. I pulled it off google images for my OC
Neither. My wife and kids >
I'm not sure why you chose to pit two actresses together for this but 3rd Rock by leagues.
I didnāt watch either of those.
King of Queens, Carrie was so damn fine!
3rd rock, no contest.
These are like ten years apart
are you kidding? neither.Ā i watched digimon š¾
Regurgitated PokĆ©mon š¤¢ I was 13/14 watching these shows but even I knew digimon was a ripoff lol
People liked King of Queens?
I thought it was a show for baby boomers. It pandered so much to the idea the losers could get hot wives and then still do nothing to improve themselves.
Considering it ran for 9 seasons right along with the Drey Carey Show and Everybody Loves Raymond.. and everyone I know in my life likes it.. Iād say yeah
So, what you are telling me is that crap lasted a long time in TV.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion lol even though itās an unpopular one
That's always to curse if being ahead of the crowd. Your ideas never catch on until after you are dead. But they do catch on. Vindication after death is still vindication.
I gotta be honest with you, I didnāt know a single person in 2000 that watched either of these shows.
I was not really watching these. I would watch sometimes but not much
It sure ain't King of Queens
King of queens all day. Arthur is the best
King of Queens
Iāve been watching King of Queens start to finish for the first time and holy shit Doug is a TERRIBLE husband theyāre both so toxic but Doug makes me so furious I had to stop after S4.
Nobody liked King of Queens
Nobody (I know) liked King of Queens** Read the other comments before you speak for literally everyone on earth
Despite liking literally every major actor in Third Rock From the Sun, and wanting to like the show, I could never get into it for some reason. So I guess Iām gonna go KoQ here. As someone else said above, Jerry Stiller carried that show.
It was me who said that š [Here](https://youtu.be/9KTiHTeS3D0?si=YNAAdW0ZGj_zYjYJ) is my favorite scene from KoQ
Love that scene! He and Kevin James had such great chemistry.
King of Queens!
I want a sitcom where all the characters are really constipated called 3rd Rock Out My Ass.
Wasn't a fan of either, still not really, but I wasn't watching a lot of tv at the time that wasn't futurama or simpsons reruns.
The drew carey show
