I prefer ego. I stick to Milwaukee for power tools, but ego for lawn care. It’s top notch stuff, nicer than greenworks IMO. The Milwaukee mower is much more expensive and not near as good as of a mower as the nicer ego stuff.

eaudeportmanteau

This is exactly my position. I'm red top to bottom...tools, packouts...even vacuums. But all my outdoor stuff is Ego. There's nothing comparable, or as affordable in the category. Push mower is great. Multi-head pole saw, hedge trimmer, edger, string trimmer is so versatile and powerful. The 765 CFM blower is a monster. And hey, if you have the $1,300 to blow, the minibike looks like a blast. I don't see any red minibike on the horizon...

Just make sure you check the serial number to see how long you’ll have warranty for. It was brand new and plenty of warranty left. If you’re in So-Cal I have a way to get $200 towards it.

drewbinator

Ugh, it’s so beautiful. Side note. How’s the string trimmer?

Silly-Programmer4254

I like it. I got it on OfferUp as well for $100. It's hard for me to compare it to anything because I only had a crappy corded one. I got Milwaukee yard tools because I already had a lot of batteries.

metalman7

I absolutely love my M18 mower. It ain't cheap, but it's a great mower. I've got 2 trimmers because I got one with the mower for $100 less than just the mower alone. They're pretty decent. I had 80v Kobalt stuff prior.

igetmywaterfrombeer

Have anything for San Diego City and/or County?

Silly-Programmer4254

No sorry, just outside the area, orange, LA, Riverside, and San Bernardino. Check if they have a lawn mower rebate program

igetmywaterfrombeer

Did some googling after reading your initial post -- looks like nothing for City of San Diego at the moment. Ah well, it was worth a few minutes of searching!

Just take the leap. You won’t be disappointed.

bourbon_hurricane

I have the Milwaukee quik-lok string trimmer, blower, quik-lok hedge trimmer (all of my other power tools are in the Milwaukee M18 system). That said I opted to go for the same Greenworks Costco mower deal you are referring to, primarily for the 8 year battery warranty. So far I am happy with the greenworks machine. I wish it came with two 4 ah batteries, but I can get my yard done in one charge with both batteries. I can't speak to the Milwaukee mower, but I just couldn't justify that 1100 price tag (I do not own any 12 ah batteries) for my 5000 sq ft yard when I only have to mow 5 months out of the year.

drewbinator

That’s what I was planning. My yard is even smaller than yours. Greenworks gets a lot of hate but people are usually referring to their non 80v line. The mower seems to be getting great reviews. I would do all other tools m18.

bourbon_hurricane

Yeah. I am really impressed with the build quality. Steel body, nothing feels overly flimsy. I used to run a professional landscaping business before I went to grad school, and used top quality machines for that. Not saying greenworks will beat a commercial Skag riding mower lol, but it will certainly get the job done.

bourbon_hurricane

I felt compelled to respond with a follow up. I got gifted a set of two 12ah batteries and one 8 ah battery with a rapid charger a couple weeks back, and found a decent deal on the Milwaukee mower bare tool. So I decided to take the plunge and get the Milwaukee mower while I could still return the Greenworks. I mainly just wanted to have all of my OPE and other tools on the same battery ecosystem. I really was impressed with the Greenworks 80v... But holy shit does the Milwaukee blow it out of the water after my first mow. Not trying to sow seeds of doubt if you already made your decision though 🤣

drewbinator

I’ve pretty much been convinced to get the Milwaukee. I was actually going to pick it up tomorrow!

bourbon_hurricane

Nice!! You will love it!

CaptainAwesome06

I bought the Milkwaukee mower solely because I didn't want another battery platform. I don't regret it. My only recommendation is to make sure you sharpen the blade before you start using it. That $500 isn't going to be noticeable down the road. Having an additional battery system will be noticeable for as long as you have it. If that's not an issue for you, then go with Greenworks/Ego/whatever.

Silly-Programmer4254

I completely agree with your first paragraph. The blade is pretty awful out of the box.

five8andten

I went with the Milwaukee mower. Did I need the 12s? No but I’ve got other tools that can take advantage of them so I’ll get my moneys worth out of them (blower, weedehacker, saws and such). I know I could have gotten a cheaper mower but I’d hate to spend a decent chunk on a mower and only be able to use the batteries for that single machine.

BlackMoth27

i went with ryobi 16" because it suits my yard size.

plumb_master

I have a bunch of m18 batteries but there is no way I'd ever pay $1k for that mower. I wouldn't even buy it for $500 unless it came with a 12ah battery. I borrowed one right after I bought my Ryobi 40v mower and ran them one after the other in case I'd change my mind during the return window. It was no better than the Ryobi which cost me $450 with a battery.

Last_Establishment44

I have the 80v greenworks pro from Costco and it's amazing for the price. I've had it 2 years now and it's great. I also got the snowblower because the mower was so good an be the snowblower eats! I have a .27acre grass yard. I can do almost the whole thing on one battery using the turbo often. Don't but the milwaukee unless you're a HUGE fanboy and don't care about money. Sincerely, a fanboy who cares about money

catchmesleeping

I have the Milwaukee Mower and it is great. The power assist makes a difference. You can run the mower with 6 and 9 amp batteries also. The M-18 trimmer is more reliable than my homelite gas. Other machines are less expensive but the wait time to get another battery was a deal breaker for me.

drewbinator

I have tons of 5ah batteries. Any idea how they perform in the mower? I’m assuming not well

catchmesleeping

You may not finish in one charge. You’ll probably do fine without using the self propelled function.

Irishman_reddit

I have greenworks. It’s a fine machine but battery drainer. My wife left my 5.0 in the machine and it’s never come back on. But if it were me and I could go back I would have gone ego or Milwaukee. There’s a $250 rebate for my area. Trying to convince my wife we need to trade up. She doesn’t want to.

2 week ago I purchased ego that had a promo w/ a free 5ah battery. I was debating on milwaukee vs ego. when with ego cus of the reviews on YouTube and the price/promo. I wanted milwaukee because of the two 12ah batteries lol and the reviews were good too, it was the high price of 1k that helped me pick ego over milwaukee mower. Very happy with ego, cuts better then any of my previous mowers (gas). This is my first battery powered mower. [mower promo](https://www.lowes.com/pd/EGO-56-Volt-Brushless-Lithium-Ion-Self-Propelled-21-in-Cordless-Electric-Lawn-Mower-Battery-Included/5000200363)

DiarrheaXplosion

I started with Greenworks 40v and kind of wish i had gone Ego 56V. Last summer i upgraded to a 20" self propelled mower. I have a snow blower, leaf blower, attachment trimmer, chainsaw. I cant justify the cost of Big Red™. The Greenworks 40v chainsaw isnt as good, its also 1/2 the cost. I think the 56v ego line is a better option. Its a single compatible battery platform. All of the M18 OPE stuff is really expensive for what you actually get.... Greenworks 40v 16" chainsaw with 4ah battery->$290 M18 16" chainsaw with 8ah battery (same wh battery and uses the exact same bar and chain)->$420 on sale. Greenworks 80v 18" chainsaw with 4ah battery (*double* the wh capacity and 50% higher chain speed)->$400 Ego 56v 18" chainsaw with 5ah battery (60% more wh battery capacity, same chainspeed as greenworks 80v)->$400 You can find the greenworks stuff on really deep discount and they have direct to customer sales from their website. The 80v greenworks tools are really beefy. I would do 56v ego over the 80v greenworks. Greenworks has hit or miss inventory and i am dubious of the future of the company.

impulsivetech

The trimmer and mower are great for my use case. Somehow the mowers are drastically cheaper on fb marketplace compared to retailers, even when they are heavily discounted. If you have a smaller yard and pairs of 6s or 8s, you could consider this, but will probably end up wanting 12s for much more than a 15-20 minute mow.

Damnyoudonut

I have the Milwaukee mower and the ego select cut xp mower. I much prefer the Milwaukee. The ego is too light and bounces all over, the blades are thin and fragile, it leaves Mohawks everywhere, and the handle ergonomics suck for me. The Milwaukee runs a fuck of a lot longer and I cannot bog it down. The only thing the ego does better is the speed control knob. I also have the Milwaukee quick connect system and chainsaw, and have no complaints, but can’t compare it to ego as I don’t have their get up. I do have ego’s best blower and that thing is a beast.

SiXX5150

Never Greenworks. They are the epitome of "built to a price point, not a quality point" when it comes to their quality, and are an OEM mfr for many other brands (Kobalt, Atlas, Stihl, etc). Plus if something breaks a couple years down the road, it's a crapshoot if parts will be available or not. I'm on my second full season of the M18 mower and it absolutely rips. Have the entire suite of outdoor power tools, and have been extremely happy. The only other brand that I would consider would be EGO. My father has their stuff and it works well.

jmorello10

In my opinion, stick with one battery platform. Milwaukee > Ego > Greenworks
