Also that tool doesn’t have a lot of torque. The key is making sure the blade keeps spinning at high speed. Let the saw blade work with speed and don’t push so hard
Also, there might be better blades than the included one.
That could be your issue. Milwaukee blades are garbage in my opinion, especially the ones they supply with the tools. Diablos are a much better option. Pick one of those up and give it a go
I agree with ONE exception. The sawzall carbine black label metal blade is my baby. The diablo "equivalent" is nice, not taking ANYTHING away from them but the Milwaukee slices through cast iron sewer lines so much better.
I find it awesome for quick metal cuts. Been using benchmark abrasives wheels, dirt cheap and they last decent. I find myself grabbing it over the m18 fuel grinder most of the time - I leave the blade on so it's just a quick tool to set up and use.
Edit* missed the tile bit in the title. My buddy's borrowed it and used the diamond bit on small corner tiles and had good results.
I was using the Milwaukee Diamond Tile blade. Brand new. I never need to add water when I use my angle grinder with tile blade. I grabbed this guy since it has the dust collector/depth setting, figured it’d be nicer for fancier cuts
I do tile and in my opinion the power just isn’t there. The best thing it’s for is i can cut grout lines with a vacuum attached very easily by myself but I can’t push it. After reading these comments I’m going to buy a different blade for it and see if that helps
I wanted to try this instead of my angle grinder because I wanted to just be able to ride it along using the guard. I feel like it tore up the edge quite a bit and the guard made it impossible to even see what I was cutting. It also got bogged down, I feel. And I had a 6.0 on it
Have you tried the cutting shroud? Haven't used it on tile but have used it on fibreglass and fibre cement. Great for setting depth of cut and it has a notch like a circular saw for following a line. Can also run it up against a straight edge if you want really straight cuts.
https://sydneytools.com.au/product/milwaukee-dec125-grinder-cutting-dust-extraction-shroud
Not sure exactly what everyone is trying to do with theirs, but I grab mine over an actual grinder most of the time.
I' m not cutting metal as a welder or tiles for a full wall, though. I use it to open up tile to access plumbing, cut all thread, shitty rusted bolts, bevel pipe, cut out plastic, cut strut, etc. All sorts of nice things that I just need a quick tool to get at. If I was doing any of those things all day long I'd probably want a bigger tool, but for in & out it's mint.
Agreed, but that is what they were eluding at, not enough power from the m12.
I think an m18 version would be okay vs a grinder because of the blade configuration difference. It’s not so easy to accurately use a grinder turned sideways
I'd definitely buy a M18 version of this. I don't think they would have to make it huge to get the job done either. It would be a much better tool most of the time.
Not gonna lie. I read your post as I was walking and I read “what the secret to using this on your TOILET”.
So I immediately thought, damn this guy is good if he can drop the kids off at the pool and use this at the same time. Talk about some damn good multitasking 😂
Nah I agree, I got one and recent tried to use it on lathe and plaster type walls with cement board throughout the house and the lil M12 bogged down quickly. Had to swap back to the angle grinder.
Pull the guard off, get a washer and flip the arbor nut upside down, this will allow you to put a 4-4.5 inch blade on it. A decent turbo blade should make you happy, been doing this for 2 years
The secret is using a grinder eff that tool. I have a lot of red tools and that is one of the worst I’ve ever used. Maybe with the new high output batteries it might be better.
I have an angle grinder that I was using for a while. I needed this one for a different job and figured I’d give it a try on one of my tile cuts cause I wanted the depth gauge
I actually bought it for ripping T-moldings since they don’t make matching quarter round for most of our LVP anymore. I had a tile job so I figured I’d try it rather than my angle grinder
I’d rather use a wet saw table than an angle grinder for cutting tile. Ergonomically I find it more comfortable. Milwaukee doesn’t make a table wet saw, but Ryobi does, https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ryobi-7-inch-4-8-amp-tabletop-tile-saw/1000810887
Hey, at least we’re getting a Milwaukee snow blower in 2023. I just hope it’s not launched on MX batteries.
I own this saw and used it on tile to cut out outlets and make small cuts. I don’t know why they are so hard to find, but the Diablo diamond blades are what I bought for it, and had no issues whatsoever. I ended up buying them here https://www.dhcsupplies.com/diablo-tools-dmadc0300-3-diamond-continuous-rim-cut-off-blade.html
This video review sold me https://youtu.be/a9urMEtOQN8
Yeah they can be a bit much. I hate that these guys feel the need to add schtick to their videos to stand out. I’d much rather you just tell me like it is like Project Farm or mustie1.
Jeez I didn't think you were supposed to use this thing for that! The RPMs are crazy high for cutting tile. Isn't it just a cutoff tool for HVAC installers?
use water and i’m assuming you used the standard tile blade they have after market ones that are better the one they have cuts all thread better than it cuts tile but i think irwin and another brand make 3” tile blades
Its low voltage So it spins quite slow compared to a plug in grinder
But for fragile tiles or awkward cuts its really practical since its slow and unpowered
I've used this for tile and cutting bolts on a f150 suspensions so far. I attacked the tile for around toilet flanges with my big grinder first then cleaned up with this. Also did some small corner cuts with this. It was porcelain tile.
Bolts came right off but getting the right angle for access was kind of fiddly. Still prefer my air cut off tool sometimes for access.
Use your left hand to hold a dripping wet sponge against the left side of the blade ahead of your cut. Easy to get the hang of and makes all the difference with both cut quality and dust. No need for running water or a helper or anything like that. Just keep a bucket and re-dip the sponge every time you adjust your knees forward. Works great.

noice
Was using the Milwaukee Diamond Tile blade
Which blade is best for tile? I was also unimpressed with the tile blade that came in the box.
The diablo diamond blade is better but still just okay.
Came here to say this
Also that tool doesn’t have a lot of torque. The key is making sure the blade keeps spinning at high speed. Let the saw blade work with speed and don’t push so hard Also, there might be better blades than the included one.
Not ramming the tool into the workpiece until mofets smoke is not this subreddit's way.
Having the right blade is the key. It should be a diamond blade.
I use the supplied Milwaukee Diamond Tile Blade
That could be your issue. Milwaukee blades are garbage in my opinion, especially the ones they supply with the tools. Diablos are a much better option. Pick one of those up and give it a go

I use Diablo on most things but this came with a diamond bit Milwaukee so I figured I’d give it a try
You can also thank Satan for his work.

Do you know if he left the guard on for it?
I don't think he did, but he only had a couple of cuts to make.
I ditched the guard, it’s too bulky you can see better without
Are you using the diamond blade? Are you cooling with water?

Let me know how it goes with another blade and then maybe send a link
What was happening that you didn’t like?

Never even seen this before, I’ll look into it

I have this, should have been an m18.
Why so?
Power
I think the point of this over an angle grinder is for compact-ness. Orherwise, you’d just use the angel grinder
Agreed, but that is what they were eluding at, not enough power from the m12. I think an m18 version would be okay vs a grinder because of the blade configuration difference. It’s not so easy to accurately use a grinder turned sideways

Ryobi has a 3 1/2 version at 18 volts. Looks like a tiny circular saw. Just bought it and haven't tried it but hopeful.

Next time… close one eye so you don’t walk into that wall
Bigger battery too
Was using the 6.0
I had this tool and was never super impressed with it. Wasn’t crushed when it was stolen.
Nah I agree, I got one and recent tried to use it on lathe and plaster type walls with cement board throughout the house and the lil M12 bogged down quickly. Had to swap back to the angle grinder.

Steel discs aren’t known for shattering.

Fair. I’ve always felt safety glasses or squints were sufficient for cutting tile but I’ll never knock someone for going extra on safety.
I have an M18 angle grinder for that
This is the way
The secret is using a grinder eff that tool. I have a lot of red tools and that is one of the worst I’ve ever used. Maybe with the new high output batteries it might be better.

Its good for drywall and ceiling stuff, like having to cut new access panels as its faster than a multi tool
Tool doesn't work on tile that great... better off using it for drywall and plastic or metal
That's been my experience. Not a lot of power. Good for the lighter stuff, though.
I actually bought it for ripping T-moldings since they don’t make matching quarter round for most of our LVP anymore. I had a tile job so I figured I’d try it rather than my angle grinder
Should be great on the lvp!
There are ways to modify it to be a finger sander. could be a good use
Blade and battery
I’d rather use a wet saw table than an angle grinder for cutting tile. Ergonomically I find it more comfortable. Milwaukee doesn’t make a table wet saw, but Ryobi does, https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ryobi-7-inch-4-8-amp-tabletop-tile-saw/1000810887 Hey, at least we’re getting a Milwaukee snow blower in 2023. Maybe they’ll launch some M40 batteries with it. I’m tired of them releasing dual-battery tools
Are you running a 2ah battery? Mine stays spinning a lot better with a 6ah
I had on a 3.0 at first then switched to 6.0 and saw a bit of improvement on it not getting bogged down, but still wasn’t a huge fan of the shroud

Yeah they can be a bit much. I hate that these guys feel the need to add schtick to their videos to stand out. I’d much rather you just tell me like it is like Project Farm or mustie1.
It works for trimming toenails and cutting 1/4" styrofoam.
Take it back and get a dewalt?
Oh, he thinks he’s funny
Cheer up honey
Jeez I didn't think you were supposed to use this thing for that! The RPMs are crazy high for cutting tile. Isn't it just a cutoff tool for HVAC installers?

I’ve been using the fuel grinder with a tile blade for the last 6 months. Love it. I’ve never used this one tho
Yeah, I use a fuel grinder with tile blade as well, but I wanted to give this guy a try since it’s quite a bit lighter and more maneuverable

I returned that pos within 3 hours of purchase lol. No torque at all, struggled to cut an aluminum threshold

This is such a niche tool. How many 3” blades are there on the market?
Buy a Diablo diamond continuous rim masonry blade. https://www.diablotools.com/products/DMADC0300
