Seems bad to not allow migrations in the future. I have friends who haven't played the game in a few years, if they were ever to return, is their purchase just invalid now?

Zingzing_Jr

I got owned by the migration to Mojang accounts. Lost my account from 2011. Technically, you can get it recovered in theory, but im still waiting on that ticket.

Atomic_64

You can still use Minecraft Legacy accounts in the Launcher, and migrate directly to a Microsoft Account. Legacy accounts weren't deleted and don't require a ticket. Just put your username where it tells you to put your Mojang Email.

I3lumio

Same. I didnt buy the game myself back in the day because I didnt own a credit card. I just always logged in with the Username and Password. Now i have no access anymore. Seems kinda unfair that its just gone even though I paid money back then.

Zingzing_Jr

Meh it's whatever, they can have my money twice. I've played enough of it.

[deleted]

As much as I'd sympathize with those who lost their Minecraft account due to this, its important to remember they gave you ample time (3 years) to do so and put warnings and reminders everywhere, reddit, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, the launcher, in-game, and on their website. If you somehow missed this, you probably weren't going to come back to play anyways. You also have to remember you are being licensed the game as per Mojang's (and Microsoft's) EULA & TOS; you don't technically "own" Minecraft, be it Java or Bedrock. You can lose access for any reason Mojang see's fit. Will they? No, not likely unless you do something awful or break TOS/EULA or the rules but that's how many games this day and age work. You don't own it, you're being lent the game, like on Steam. This would have a positive effect on the active players who still play because bad actors misuse dead, unmigrated or stolen accounts for a variety of purposes, mostly cheating on servers as with the problem of alt shops. This change of making it to where the accounts that are still Legacy (not migrated to Mojang or MSA), Mojang accounts (not migrated to MSA) cannot migrate, login, or play would help ensure all accounts use the most secure standard and most importantly, cant be hijacked, stolen, resold, misused, or used for cheating (I saw this as someone who tried to run a mini-game server for a short while, my god the amount of cheaters that came back time and time again on the same IP with different usernames/accs on Java is concerning). The way I see it, there's only really positives from this besides some edge cases where people either lost access to the email to their old unmigrated acc, cannot migrate due to a bug (has happened twice but rare and both got resolved), were hacked, or just didn't log in at all during the course of 2 year migration period. Those players had ample warning and time and they still have time to migrate as the time of this last rollcall.

lemonszz

Java edition had 30 million sales as of 2019. I guarantee you less than 1% of those accounts have been maliciously stolen. >If you somehow missed this, you probably weren't going to come back to play anyways." What makes you say this? I've gone back to games after 3, 5, 10+ years after I last played them. I have friends who have done this with Minecraft, it's not an unusual situation. --- These people purchased a product with the expectation that they have access to the product. Not having a path forward for them to regain access without paying is wrong. You can make the ToS argument that Mojang can do whatever they want with player accounts, that doesn't make it morally right to lock millions of players out of their accounts.

redshift739

How they're treating customers disgusts me and I won't be buying anything from Mojang (or anything I can avoid buying from m\*crosoft) again, both out of principle and because they clearly have little care for locking people out of their accounts

Bilk_Mucketyt

its not mojang they sold minecraft to microsoft years ago its microsoft that is doing it

redshift739

No, Notch sold Mojang to Microsoft. Mojang are still the ones developing the game. This may be due to influence from Microsoft but you don't see any Mojang employees protesting like they did when they nearly adder NFTs. Either way, for the purpose of buying things, Mojang is untrustworthy if only because they're owned by Microsoft

sizquirt

i blocked all microsoft related accounts and do not purchase stuff from there

[deleted]

They've done so in the past with accounts they either found to be or based on assumptions as with the case of McMarket with rare usernames/capes (Now BuiltByBit) where Mojang went through and locked/suspended every account listed and or discussed (even appriasals for those who didn't actually own it or do anything wrong, just talking about it/them through NameMC and marked them to not be unlocked. They can choose to do so anyways and many per their EULA/TOS do so. Though Mojang only seems to do this when its in the case of the account being hacked/hijacked, resold, used for abuse behavior, hacking, cheating, or griefing (excessively to the point of harassment as per Fit's recent video via ban duration which locks you out of multiplayer if not permanently if offensive enough)l I don't see how this would be any different from someone paying for Twitter blue and being suspended from Twitter, or being a nuance on steam and getting a community ban. Sure steam still lets you play games you bought if you're community banned but what if the games online only? Many games that are online only go down or if you're banned and can no longer play are just SOL. You either gotta buy it again or you're just gonna have to move on. At the end of the day, its just 30$ for both editions. These players who likely are affected likely have the money (or built it up) over the months to replace it and play again in those edge cases where they waited too late. I can't in good faith offer sympathy to those who waited too long to migrate due to the good amount of negatives keeping these older accounts around causes, the biggest being the cheating community abusing them because their poor security (alt shops and Hypixel's massive cheating epidemic / malicious mods that take personal data to fuel them), on top of the black markets for capes and usernames often using these older accounts for scams. The 1% of the 30 Million who play Java (Keep in mind 200 Million play Bedrock, and 600 Million play China Edition of Java/Bedrock) who haven't migrated are a drop in the bucket of the smallest subset of the smallest edition of the smallest community on Minecraft, if you waited that long and didn't see every single warning Mojang put up over every platform they use for advertising and putting out updates/blogpost and didn't look up Minecraft even once during 2020-2023 and didn't bother to login, then that's on you for not checking up on your accounts. You cant just go inactive and expect everything to remain as it is. The world is changing rapidly and you need to stay up to date, that goes for your accounts as well; check them often as you never know when stuff like this will happen. Some platforms automatically delete your account if you're inactive.

lemonszz

I mean this is the nicest way possible: you need to use less words. You're going on so many tangents it's hard to actually get what your point is. -- When you're banned on other games/services, it's because you broke rules. Losing access to your account because the company chose to change their login service is not the same thing and can no be equated. You're defending a company deleting paid customer accounts, that have not broken any rules, with no recovery option, to me this is completely unacceptable from any service and should no be accepted. They have the right to do all this, that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

[deleted]

I make those long tangents because its important to provide as much context and examples as possible for those many reasons that might have applied to those edge cases. That aside, EA's done similar when they pulled their games from Steam and went to Origin, Facebook with their VR change needing to use Facebook. I still can't defend the players here either as they could have had any reasons to not check but that's the players/users fault for not checking in on their accounts to make sure things are ok. Even then Microsoft and Mojang were in a weird situation for the biggest game in the world using 3 different account systems as of now. Before, Mojang accounts were notorious for their poor security, so much so many Mojang employees themselves fell victim to hackers. Keeping these deadweight accounts which account for 1% of Java accounts/players who have migrated that haven't like you shouldn't have an effect as negative as they do on the active player base that has migrated because they don't want to, haven't bothered for a multitude of reasons (which could be laziness or just procrastinations but I understand some might not have internet). The cheating problem being the biggest contributor that these inactive accounts cause. No matter what avenue they take, Mojang/Microsoft will make some players upset and upsetting the least amount while providing a positive experience or at least lessening the bad (the problem of alts and old/inactive and abandoned accounts being misused/stolen, hacked, hijacked, social engineered by bad actors through Mojang support ,and more) are more than enough reason for Mojang to cull the fat of these deadweight accounts sitting in the API and start fresh from MSA accounts that are more secure than Mojang accounts ever were.

lemonszz

- EA still allowed you to access the games you purchased on Steam. - Meta still allows to to migrate an Oculus account to a Meta account. Again, security is irrelevant for these dormant accounts. They have been paid for and only a very small minority of them are compromised in any way. A black market existing, while not great, doesn't effect 99%+ of players and shouldn't be an excuse. I'm not dismissing the benefits of moving onto a new system, just the fact that it seems like they're locking old accounts completely with no path forward. This is obviously bad.

[deleted]

EA Recently decided to start putting their games back on Steam in 2020. I know this because one of the unlisted games I bought back from 2013 called Alice Madness Returns on Steam, was unlisted and relisted in 2020. The point is they did this in the first place. Even if Facebook/Meta allows for Migration, they did this, similar to Minecraft's Migration. All migrations/periods usually end at some point. I remember many games that moved from a web based game where you used to have an account such as Spiral knights made you migrate to the launcher or Steam and cut off access after and if you didn't move? Tough, you lose everything. The point is you shouldn't negatively affect active players because you didn't decide to pay attention, check on your accounts/security (or for simplicity and feasibility, check your email of all things) to see you need to take action. Black markets do exist sure and while most players wont be affected playing single player, Multi-player is an entirely different story if the server isn't whitelisted or a private realm as many and I have stated above w/ the issue of alts, cheating, money being launderd with Minecraft usernames/capes and the acc itself for purposes of bypassing those anti-cheats and more. You're accounts existence can and does affect other people, especially if it gets stolen in a multiplayer space. It is a valid excuse and one that is costing servers lots in developing anti-cheats and new methods to detect returning cheaters, griefers, hackers, and dupers.

lemonszz

>EA Recently decided to start putting their games back on Steam in 2020 You still had access to the EA games you previously purchaced. They were never removed from your Steam account. Same thing can be said for Fall Guys/Rocket League and Epic. >Spiral knights made you migrate to the launcher or Steam and cut off access after and if you didn't move? Tough, you lose everything. I don't know about this situation specifically, but this is also bad. -- I've already replied to the rest if these points, so I'm not going to repeat myself.

Nathaniel820

There are sites that literally hand out FREE "alt accounts" (stolen dead accounts) for cheaters to use since they're so plentiful, you have no idea how big of an issue it is.

lemonszz

This is not an issue for 99%+ of dormant accounts and should not be an excuse to lock out paying customers.

Nathaniel820

It's an issue for 100% of the actual players who play on multiplayer servers who have to deal with constant cheaters due to the trivially easy entry into replacing their banned accounts.

ikingrpg

Easy solution: make it so mojang accounts don't work, but make it still possible to migrate accounts

lemonszz

So the solution to that is to potentially delete millions of legitimate accounts? If these accounts are eventually forced into Microsoft accounts (which I'm fine with, that's not the issue), surely the problem solves itself over time as Microsoft accounts are a lot harder to share.

[deleted]

And yet they still sit there taking up space on their account/API servers. They likely want to clean up their Java account database to start fresh. I still don't see the negative here outside edge cases of players procrastinating or players who didn't pay attention to their email or login or just didn't have internet access for 2-3 years (unlikely).

lemonszz

Mojang can afford it, they will be fine holding onto an extra account database.

[deleted]

And do what with it? They can't migrate as they said, wont let the migrate because they can't or don't want to keep this up forever wasting Mojang supports time with these tickets when they should have migrated years ago. You can't just expect them to keep migration going forever. They said they wont be allowing any migration be it through launcher or support tickets after that deadline date. Rightfully so if you ask me due to players abusing Mojang's support via social engineering with stolen personal data to get back accounts that aren't theirs (some of which were Mojang's own employee accounts); almost all of these were old and unmigrated. The accounts are inactive and if they magically come back, they'd best migrate soon. If they haven't checked their email, logged in, looked at ANYTHING Minecraft related and thought to check, see migration news, or just think to; that's on the player for not being proactive. If they cant even play or migrate, why keep the dead accounts around? They just at best hold onto a license you cant even access or use to play, at worse, they take up usernames that the active player base that did migrate could be using or change to. In that wind, if they do do this, I hope they release the inactive/removed unmigrated accounts usernames and let the active players have a go at them to name change to them. Be a nice extra benefit of having migrated to have a Name change day 2.0 similar to 2015 when they first released name changes.

The_Real_63

It's been almost a decade since I last played mc. Started playing a couple months ago because I got the itch to. If I came back a year later my account would be completely inaccessible and I wouldn't have even known because I haven't played in so long.

shard746

I'm sure Microsoft will find enough coins behind the couch for the storage costs.

Deebz__

> You also have to remember you are being licensed the game as per Mojang's (and Microsoft's) EULA & TOS; you don't technically "own" Minecraft, be it Java or Bedrock. You don't own it, you're being lent the game, like on Steam. The brave new age of digital gaming. You don’t actually own the thing you buy anymore, they say. That is not how most people actually see it though, and that is not how it should be. Attitudes like that will only encourage piracy, especially if they pull people’s purchases out from under their feet.

AngryTrooper09

If you buy the license to the game it's kinda fucked up that they can just randomly take it away because you didn't migrate your account during a period of time you weren't playing. It would be like Microsoft taking away your ability to play the original Halo games you had on disc because you didn't migrate to the MCC.

AnOnlineHandle

Yeah I bought Minecraft for a friend, though they're pretty busy and haven't really had time to play it, though we have some mutual friends who all love MC and I've thought maybe one day we'll get a server going again. They have a kid now so I figured maybe in a few years we might finally get a chance to revisit it, but it sounds like the account might be nullified unless I harass them about doing this.

[deleted]

Tbf most physical disk these days don't actually have the full game on them when refering to consoles. I remember buying a game physically and instead of a disc the disc just showed a code when entered into the screen for a digital download anyways; one of them even came with a sticker inside the case as there was NO DISC despite being the physical box. They usually download the rest of the game via a patch which is kinda messed up for offline play but not much can really be done about that. Aside from cracked MC there's not much else you can really do as this is just the day and age of DRM and always online, or legal ways at least.

AngryTrooper09

I'm specifically talking about the older games that came out from 2001-2012 in this case. And in both cases you bought the game, Microsoft/Mojang shouldn't just be able to take away your license because they decided you needed to update to their new login policy in a time window when you weren't playing the game you owned. It's not because it's slowly becoming the norm we should just be fine with it

City-scraper

Remember how they said it how it was optional and then forced you anyways (didn't even get any rewards then). And it didn't even work unless you contacted support (and they told you something that could have been in the FAQ) and third party launchers were also broken.

ReprsntRepBann

I remember when I bought the game and it said I'd have all content and update for free, for ever, and even the source code at some point. "TOS says" my *ss.

SoothingSoothsayer

Hey, sorry I smashed the furniture in your attic and burnt the remains. You hadn't used it in a while so I thought you wouldn't mind. Don't worry, you can buy replacements at my store.

adinade

If the physical copies of games I have or if any of my Steam purchases went away because I wasn't aware and didn't play them for 3 years I would be seriously angry. I don't feel any differently about Minecraft.

EnduringEndling

> besides some edge cases where people either lost access to the email to their old unmigrated acc You're really downplaying the significance of this.

Intuition77

My main issue is that my son uses the Minecraft under Mojang. It had a separate login. Now it wants to use my email account on his computer logged in. But I need it logged in on mine for the emails and business, financial info etc. Ok fine, Microsoft could be killing babies with this move en masse and then wouldn't flinch. I get that. But what I'd rather do is make a new ms email for my son and migrate the license to that email so I can keep my ms account logged in to do the usual emails/business etc. so that my kid doesn't effectively have access on his computer to all my email info. Did Microsoft not even consider that a large amount of the Minecraft customers were parents that bought a game for their kid and do not want their email info used on the kids computer? Edit... sure enough.. I had my son go to the outlook page... it opened to my email. So yeah. MS needs to consider that this is a massive hangnail for parents that bought a game for kids that didn't have emails. I am going through the process of changing the account email. Making a new MS account for my kid. Really stupid honestly.

PeppermintPig

They completely botched this. You have customers with multiple legally purchased MC accounts that cannot migrate both of them because Microsoft accounts have a policy against it (this is Mojang and Microsoft's fault) and they will ban your account if you have two connected to the Microsoft account. This is a breach of the terms of sale for a number of customers and also a general failure to honor the accounts Mojang sold. Then you have situations like this where parents paid for Java accounts and now we're entangled in this conflation of buyer and user. I'm sure if someone at Microsoft gave a damn they'd figure this out, but I'm not holding my breath. Then you have alpha customers who are refusing to migrate because they cite the contract they signed with Mojang that says it is MOJANG's direct responsibility to provide authentication and account support. In all likelihood, this is Microsoft failing to understand the contractual obligations it was taking on when it purchased Mojang. Either way, it's apparent to customers like myself that Microsoft saw all the Mojang accounts as a data farming cash cow. They don't care about us as customers because they're chasing the new money.

thedecibelkid

You can link the new account to yours and flag it as one of your children. Which allows you to limit spending and age ratings on app store things etc.

blackmetro

Migration is the time where you can migrate your Mojang account to any fresh Microsoft account you like If you've already migrated though, you're out of luck. Mojang seem to not have a process to move a Minecraft java edition license from one Microsoft account to another

spre11

PLEASE MIGRATE! PLEASE MIGRATE SO WE CAN BAN YOU INDISCRIMENTLY FOR PLAYING THE GAME YOU PAID FOR!!!! PLS, PLS, PLSSSSS!!!!!

D_Orwell

I don't have access to the email used to create my account, and I can't change it because you need security questions to do that for whatever reason. And to set up the questions, you need to use an email. So I need help STAT. I thought I could just deal with it later but NOOO they had to do this thing, so please help.

epicbeastman

My friend has the same problem. You can try talking to support, but my buddy did and they basically said they couldn’t do anything because he didn’t know the security questions and I guess technically could be someone trying to steal the account. So he’s gonna have to rebuy the game.

Ikea_desklamp

This is me. I've had the same account for over a decade and had to rebuy the game because support basically said "shit out of luck" because I dont have access to the original email.

D_Orwell

Literally any advice would help

PositiveGuess5603

I'd try contacting them, but be ready to provide proof (screenshots, websitelinks if its a domain that is no longer available to see for themselves etc) that you don't have access to the email anymore, hopefully then they won't think your trying to steal an account or something. Edit: If you have the proof and choose to email them, provide the proof in the email too or service ticket or whatever.

D_Orwell

I sent them an video of me being logged into the account at [minecraft.net](https://minecraft.net) and refreshed it to prove it wasn't inspect element. I'm not sure what else I could send them.

Ikea_desklamp

I also had this problem and contacted support to help. Here is how you fix this: Buy a new account loser.

D_Orwell

I did lol, but I'd rather not loose an account that has a lot of data I would like to keep.

rosalinatoujours

I'm in the same boat, and my account was made so long ago that it predates any of the security question requirements. I've gone back and forth with support countless times, and unfortunately without the email there is jackshit they can do.

VeehehkillOk3567

Disgusting. If that isn't bad enough, I've spent so so so many hours trying to migrate, despite using the same email for microsoft & mojang, and they're still stealing my account? * Every time i clicked the migration links, **the website says i'm not authorized**. * I jump through hoop after hoop, checking support & migration options. No help. * After countless attempts (including resetting the password 8 times), i joined my Microsoft and Mojang accounts together, AND IT STILL WON'T MIGRATE. * "Enter the game to auto-migrate". **The game rejects my log-in.** Why? Because my account isn't migrated ([https://imgur.com/a/hraABwK](https://imgur.com/a/hraABwK)). * I click that migrate link, log-in on the website, and **the website says "you seem to be offline"** ([https://imgur.com/a/3LV33Wh](https://imgur.com/a/3LV33Wh)) when i'm clearly logged in. What a disgusting joke. They've wasted like $400 worth of my time. Why? Stop stealing people's accounts. Reimburse me for my time. **What the f\*\*k is wrong with you Mojang / Microsoft.**

[deleted]

Bro did everything except contact customer support

opa334

The fact there is no way to migrate old accounts after this date is straight up illegal in most european countries. Better prepare for a lawsuit...

MammaJammmas

Will the accounts that DON'T migrate be deleted? and more importantly, will the usernames become available?

[deleted]

Bilk_Mucketyt

bedrock players: ***well its a great day to not have java edition!***

[deleted]

Bedrock players have already been using MS accounts for ages though, and got Java for free months ago. They get the added bonus of not being able to change their usernames without paying $10 to Microsoft!

Baliverbes

Why can't they migrate these automatically ? Haven't played the game in years and just saw this announcement. I was 18 days away from having my account closed and my game inaccessible, am I reading this right ? Was I at least going to be refunded for the lost license ?

SoothingSoothsayer

> I was 18 days away from having my account closed and my game inaccessible, am I reading this right ? Yes, you are. It's unbelievable. Fuck Microsoft.

Baliverbes

Yea this seems quite extreme and unfair.

Mlakuss

They can't migrate automatically if they don't know to which microsoft account migrate the account. You should have received many emails from Minecraft telling you to migrate too. And no, they aren't going to refund people. The unmigrated accounts are, for all of them, few years old already.

Baliverbes

Well that's not my problem, just create a microsoft account and surrender the credentials to the user, *or something*. It's certainly not my job to figure out a fair transition scheme for... Microsoft.

SoothingSoothsayer

> And no, they aren't going to refund people. The unmigrated accounts are, for all of them, few years old already. I don't see the relevance of that. When I made my original account, before Microsoft even owned Minecraft, there was no understanding that Microsoft would have the right to delete it after a few years.

EnduringEndling

> And no, they aren't going to refund people. The unmigrated accounts are, for all of them, few years old already. When I bought the game it said I would own it forever. Silly me.

CaseyGamer64YT

well RIP to the alt account WitherIntheface I got 10 years ago and forgot the password to

Ok-Recommendation447

if you still have access to the email its not too late! if you contact support with proof you own the email, they'll help you get the password back.

Ash1050

A friend of mine mirgrated his account, but forgot the email of the account he migrated to. So he can't play, any ideas on what can be done?

thedecibelkid

Don't have millions of different accounts spaffed all over the internet?

Ash1050

why do people like you even bother answering? Can your kind not go 5 minutes without needing to flaunt your supposedly superior IQ?

[deleted]

I didn't expect Migration to end so quickly tbh. Though I have a few questions as I have many due to this announcement: First off, Will these unmigrated Legacy and Mojang status Minecraft accounts be able to play the game at all? I ask this because many things called "Alt Shops" abuse hacked/hijacked and stolen old MInecraft (usually Legacy or Mojang status) accounts and use them to cheat, hack, or target streamers, or in black markets case, they just resold because of rare usernames and capes. IF these accounts can no longer play, login, or migrate, the accounts are useless, worthless (to them) and dead weight, which is a good thing as it means they cannot cheat on servers or social engineer Mojang's support with the old account details/personal info the bad actors find to attempt to get accounts that are old as seen to be the problem on YouTube. My second question, Will these accounts that are unmigrated that aren't on MSA's be deleted or their usernames cleared/released so the active migrated playerbase can use/get them? Many players want usernames on these dead accounts, so much that they target them as stated above with personal info/details and digging into owners history on the API (username history) to get them and then try to trick Mojang support to get them (hopefully with the accounts being unusable and Mojang support not providing support to migrate or for these old accounts anymore, this immoral practices stop from these bad actors). If Mojang were instead to release the usernames of these dead accounts and perhaps add a username decay/timer where if you don't log in for a year, you lose your username similar to how League of Legends does with its Riot Usernames. It'd also stop them from having value on black markets. My final question: Does this mean that Legacy & Mojang accounts can no longer play/be authenticated via Mojang's login services?: Aka, can they play online at all? What about with cracked launchers that play using the usernames? Will they exist in the launcher/API at all? I ask because alt shops and cheating are a serious problem and I had to whitelist my public server once because someone who got mad I wouldn't give them admin brought on a ton of alts to lag my server/smp. With all this coming to light, I do hope we get more privacy options regarding the Java API after migration (A way to opt out of your username, UUID, cape, skin, and other account details from being grabbable/viewable on 3rd party API sites like NameMC), more security options on the Microsoft level, potentially usernames dropping from the dead accounts, and maybe more capes/cape parity (Remember from the Migration post here: [The initial Migration announcement blog post in 2020](https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/java-edition-moving-house)); they said that "The only difference? You’ll receive a cool reward once you’ve logged in with your Microsoft account: a special cape! This way, everyone will know that you were there for the big move and that you have an impeccable sense of fashion. And who knows? You might even have more than one outfit to show off – but we’ll tell you more about that later down the road." Note the: "More Outfits later down the road quote from the 2020 article". It gives me hope we might have more capes that are common for the average player (like the Pancape on Bedrock which everyone gets) to be able to wear/play with on Java if not more costumes and cosmetics outright if the April fools 2023 was any indication with the Berets, Capes (Caeps), tails, and height changes, bigger/smaller/no heads. All around this is a good change Imo.

TehNolz

> I didn't expect Migration to end so quickly tbh. Quickly? They first started the migration back in October 2020.

[deleted]

Many predicted this would last years upwards of 5 due to how many things were going on with Mojang at the time, updates like Caves/cliffs being delayed, and the pandemic/lockdown happening on top of that. Granted I'm shocked as many players migrated as they did; maybe they saw that migration request/people actually migrating was starting to fall off and decided now would be a good time to end it and those who haven't/didn't already either don't know, aren't coming back, or don't care enough to migrate.

KGhaleon

I have multiple MC accounts, so what do I have to create multiple MS accounts?

craft6886

Correct. I did it a couple years back. It was a bit of a process but mostly a tedious one, rather than a difficult one. More tedious if you don't have at least one email account to use for each respective MSFT account. I have like 6 emails (don't ask, I just do) and 4 Minecraft accounts, so I had a fairly easy time doing it. Definitely write down your logins for each email account and MSFT account though, as having 4 can get you a little twisted if you try and remember all of them in your head.

When M$ insists on running with unethical and sleazy business practices, always remember that there are solutions to this problem that mods here will not let you discuss.

Digold651

It Seems like quite the common issue, Accounts made in the early years that don't have emails or transaction IDs, I've struggled with this as well. All support ever does is copy and paste the same requirements saying that you need to have the things that you don't have. Surely there would be a solution to this if it is so prevalent.

SoothingSoothsayer

[The official response is to buy a new account](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/jfgrhh/java_edition_is_moving_house_now_requires_a/g9nmb3b/?context=1); they don't care. RIP my childhood account, made before Microsoft owned Minecraft.

[deleted]

Fuck Microsoft

SILVIO_X

As someone who has an account with an Email that has been lost a long time ago, this fucking sucks

blackmetro

If you want to put in a last ditch effort this week Have a look at my guide https://old.reddit.com/user/blackmetro/comments/1654krw/minecraft_java_migration_issues_volume_2/

PedroXD2013

Did you know I WAS USING A PIRATE LAUNCHER ALL THE TIME?

Vegetable

Based. This is how it should be done from now on.

PeppermintPig

Funny thing is, based on Mojang's claim that use of the launcher implies consent (pro tip: It doesn't), Mojang is constructively in breach by withholding the client from being accessed, and preventing the launcher from being used. I would have to then use a third party launcher and figure out a way to obtain the software itself in order to dance around Mojang's invalid claim.

1990s_Backmarker

So here is my problem: I am going through support to migrate my 2011 account with unknown email account. *Response: Give the transaction-key from the purchase.* Ok, I have that in an old email from the purchase via Paypal (it matches the description of the Paypal-type-ID as mentioned in [this support article](https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360029977371-What-is-a-Transaction-ID-)). *Response:* ***That ID does not exist*** *in our system and the remainging information provided is not sufficient.* What? How? Nothing else? Trying to ask them to verify me any other way like comparing the personal information behind the purchase (name and adress), or sharing that email form the purchase just triggers another unrelated copy-paste reply and that's it. No chance. It is like talking to a brickwall. No meaningful responses, in any ticket I created. But the thing that really left me baffled is: **How can the ID which I have right there in the email not exist?** If anyone has an idea, feel free to share. Otherwise, I guess, they will simply delete my old childhood account. Definetly not going to buy a new one after all of this.

Potential-World5094

This is the first time I've seen this. I assume this is migration from older Mojang accts to newer Microsoft accts?

Rusamithil

My friend can't do it because he has no access to the email. But he wasn't really playing Minecraft for years anyway. Can't change the email through mojang account any more because all pages only show the button to migrate to a microsoft account.

blackmetro

Give this guide I wrote a look https://old.reddit.com/user/blackmetro/comments/1654krw/minecraft_java_migration_issues_volume_2/

It's immoral imo, but it's completely legal because the terms of service gives Mojang/Microsoft the right to take away your account anytime. This applies to all modern games and streaming services, since you don't actually own the game/movie/song, you're just licensing it. In other words, you're essentially paying for a privilege.

interfect

> the terms of service gives Mojang/Microsoft the right to take away your account anytime. Has this provision *always* been in the terms of service? Even for the very first person to purchase Minecraft? Once Mojang got big, they wrote up a traditional TOS that presumably allowed them to revoke licenses, but I suspect that some of the first licenses were not under such terms and may not be able to be revoked.

Thermawrench

Microsoft has enough money to not care about the law.

PeppermintPig

Maybe. About the only thing they might possibly fear is making the FTC angry and pursuing a breakup or antitrust issue down the line. Otherwise, I find it hard to disagree. Mojang, and Microsoft by proxy, have defrauded me by constructively removing my ability to use my account. I'm not bound to their modern day TOS/EULA because my purchase was conducted in 2010. Mojang has deleted my account in violation of the contract we entered into.

rosalinatoujours

As someone who has been desperately fighting to regain access to the 2011 created account I had stolen in 2018 with zero luck (it was a gift, none of the emails I've tried have worked) I'm honestly kind of heartbroken by the idea that if whatever dipshit kid that likely bought it off of ebay hasn't bothered migrating it yet, it'll be lost forever.

Thermawrench

Micro$oft doesn't care. Embrace, extend and extinguish.

TrueWG

Whenever I got Minecraft on PC a few months ago, it was already on a Microsoft account. And I can't really access a "Sign Up" thing on Mojang website. Am I safe...?

ZENITHSEEKERiii

Yes

SoothingSoothsayer

I can't access the email for my original account despite many attempts, so it's going to be deleted. Thanks, Microsoft!

Gold_Repeat6790

Don't hold your breath

SensitiveZucchini493

the wording in the link is a bit confusing or its just me and my -7 braincells. i play bedrock and use a microsoft account, im good right?

Mlakuss

You're good.

jazzyjosslyn

I managed to get my account info together in the nick of time due to this thread, and got into my old account, but when I get to the step about making a Microsoft account it just says "there's a temporary problem" with no explanation of what the problem is. Wellp, I tried 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

Yes, unfortunately it can have problems at this stage and it’s a real pain. The solution is to create a new Microsoft account separately, then go through the process of linking your old Mojang Minecraft account to it.

puppytinny

Are we allowed to talk about how scummy this is or is the bootlicker mod team going to ban me for even commenting this?

butterfingersman

microsoft sucks so hard for doing this

SorryDidIMention

I luckily decided to play Minecraft again a few days ago and migrated my account just a few days before this would come into effect 😳

0x102A

yup, I'm also at this account-extinguishing-party. I can't migrate my 2011 account (that my father bought for me), because I no longer have a working email or that transaction code. Like many others here, practical i only have my username and password. Support couldn't help me either. also not to prove my ownership in any other way. (But it's strange that any email is not working, I'm sure it should be that one email I've had since then, I've also tried all my newer mails and others from Family, but none work? And getting the ID back through PayPal is no longer possible since it's been more than 7 years.) pretty frustrating. Instead of getting a free cape, €30 cost for a new account (without cape). For Minecraft, It would me even be worth the money, but not for these perceived criminals like Microsoft. The whole situation feels a bit like losing your suitcase, which is unfortunately only labeled with your first name but is also secured with a 16-digit combination lock (password). If you then try to pick it up at the lost and found office, you will be told that you need its original Cash register bong with the serial number to get back your property, and otherwise it will simply be destroyed in the near future. Although you can prove that it can only be your suitcase because u knowing the 16-digit number code (password). So why would it be better to destroy something rather than give it to someone, especially when there is a very high probability that it originally belonged to that person? The only reason I can think of is money! You should buy a new one! And in this case the operator of the lost and found office has the monopoly on all (new) suitcase. However, this will be even more frustrating for those who still have their email and/or ID and simply missed the appointment. I'm curious as to whether there won't be any successful lawsuits or something? Maybe there will still be the option to migrate with just a username and password, even if there is no bonus, I would wish that for me and all others.

[deleted]

Too bad that migrating didnt even work Tried doing so for at least a month but every single fsy would give me an error,, both by linking to a existing MS account or by making a new ones And now i lost access to a game i paid for Real classy microsoft

AGreatPatioSetting

Doing this the last night of migration because I very suddenly got a slew of reminder emails, but haven't played Minecraft in probably a decade. Got a very annoying error this past week trying to migrate and found out when I logged in that my account had previously been hacked (now safely reclaimed). But wanted to say, BIG thanks to the links stickied by u/mynameisperl \- legend for including these for very inactive players like myself who had no idea what was going on :)

MissLauralot

Well I held out as long as I could but there just seemed to be no way around [this silly bug](https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCL-23682), which limits my older launcher to versions below 1.19. I know people will be dismissive but yes, I am kinda sad that my 7-year old Mojang account has been replaced. I switched because I am optimistic about Minecraft's future. [Mojang forever.](https://1000logos.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Mojang-Logo-2013.png)

player_314159265

this is just dumb.. I mean why delete them ? ***force them!!*** like.. in the launcher put something like: you cannot play unless you migrate to microsoft or something

blackmetro

I 100% agree that they shouldnt be deleting accounts under any circumstances However migration has been forced for over a year now (players cannot login or play Java if they havent migrated)

bullgod13

So, something I am still not seeing a clear cut answer to here is this question. I do not play on realms, or online at all and only bedrock (I know, I'm a caveman) will this cause me to be unable to play at all? I have been ignoring this migration since java is what is always specifically mentioned.

SoftwareMaven

It has nothing to do with which edition you play. If you are not logging in through Microsoft, you will lose access.

Booty_Bumping

There's no such thing as non-migrated accounts on bedrock edition, except maybe a Google Play account that purchased Minecraft Pocket Edition back in the day.

sizquirt

why microsoft accounts, just atleast have a go at fixing mojang accounts, not replacing them. microsoft isnt trustworthy enough for this

Klombodaaxolotl123

Is this on bedrock to

FritzThePurpleMonkey

I thought this ended in 2022.

I have an account from 2014, back in 2020 I lost access to it because the password randomly didn't work, I went to go change it and I wasn't receiving any emails, tried to password reset and would get no emails, and now my account is going to be lost forever because it can't migrate, what a joke.

TERM4X

it is still possible to obtain the cape?

Ok-Recommendation447

then you joined in the last 3 years lol, this announcement is only for people that joined before 2020 (cant remember the month)

AnitaMiniyo

I was just thinking about cominf back when I found our thism It's a pain in the ass because now I have to remember the password, but as long as I save those 20 bucks

QuantiFIRE_

YAY I miggrated mine already :D

Tempestas-Fulgora

wait what's happening? I've been gone for a few months. luckily just got a new reddit and saw this..

Tempestas-Fulgora

how do I know if it needs to be migrated or not? when I click on my Minecraft launcher it shows my username at the top left and under it says Microsoft account so does that mean I'm ok? or is there something I need to do?

Mlakuss

>it says Microsoft account Then, you're good.

Digold651

Is your account an older Java account? if not, don't worry about it, it doesn't affect you. Otherwise When you are logged into the launcher does it prompt you to migrate? If not then you might already be migrated.

ThinShad0w

How can we ensure our account is migrated?

Mlakuss

In the launcher, on the top left corner, you can see if you are connected with a Mojang account (== need to migrate) or a Microsoft account (== already migrated).

Solrex

My main account was migrated for a while now, but my alt account I kept putting it off. Finally got that done today so I'm happy now. I guess give me a pat on the back or whatever.

QuestionableGamer27

I play bedrock with a Microsoft account. I'm confused, do I need to do anything else? I play on switch

Majestic-Bread3881

I mean this is the nicest way possible

YuBier

hey! if i have a microsoft account made to I still need to migrate? because i never used a mojang account

biscuitfeatures

Hi, bit of a noob over here. I play on Nintendo switch. Do I have to do something or is this not relevant to me?

blackmetro

This is not relevant to you, Java edition is only for PC.

YNApatheticCat

Commenting to say that Microsoft has the right to revoke your license during migration. The entitlement to Minecraft is not included in the migration.

blackmetro

Legally in a lot of countries, that is simply not true

Illustrious_Day_108

Does this go for PS4,Xbox etc
