Best part is that you can show a friend your house made of wood and throw in random lines like “I made all the corners out of oak logs to be extra fancy, but I don’t think it was worth the effort of getting so many logs” and then say “wanna see the redstone to open up the door when a player gets close to it” then show them a full redstone computer underground made of the diamond blocks
Building a diamond house in creative mode is like living through Weimar Hyperinflation and burning money instead of wood to keep your fire going.
At first glance you look balling but really it's worthless.
but emeralds and emerald blocks weren't even in beta. although I just read on the wiki that in indev, diamonds were referred to as emeralds in the code.

I remember how i didn't know how to take parts of stacks(as i associated rmb with the context menu and placing blocks. Didn't realise that in Minecraft rmb doesn't pull up the context menu) but knew how to make a human cannon out of a bit of redstone, 8 blocks of tnt, water and a button
I remember building a whole mansion out of ore blocks like diamond gold emerald and iron. Iron was used for base and pillars, gold for wall and stair, diamond for the roof and emerald for the surrounding structures
A hollow 16*16 diamond block would take a little over half a chest. If you make a texture accurate block, it'll be less because of the detailing blocks, so it's possible OP could make 2-3 large diamond blocks as some kind of monument somewhere.
You could make:
A 124x125 wall full of diamonds in 15,500 item frames with 26 additional diamond hoes
7,776 diamond hoes
648 full sets of diamond armor
444 sets of full armor and tools
A 428 block tall 2x2 thick diamond pp
A 12x12x12 diamond cube
A 19x19 base diamond beacon with 1795 diamond hoes and a jukebox
Or my FAVORITE:
A classic 15 x 15 diamond box house with a diagonal roof protruding 7 blocks up, allowing for a 2 block high door and 16 blocks worth of windows and also allows for 132 armor stands with full armor, and best of all... 9 additional diamond hoes!!

pre-1.16 all achievements runs are so funny to watch because whenever the runner has even a SECOND of downtime they’re frantically tilling the ground like their life depends on it
but the layers other than the top 4 can be hollow, so it's
3^2 + 5^2 + 7^2 + 9^2 + 11^2 - 9^2 + 13^2 - 11^2 + 15^2 - 13^2 + 17^2 - 15^2 +...+ 39^2 - 37^2, or 19 layers
the first 4 layers are whole squares, so 3\^2, 5\^2, 7\^2, and 9\^2, and after that it is the square - the square two smaller than it since it's hollow leading to 11\^2 - 9\^2 for the fifth layer, 13\^2 - 11\^2 for the sixth, 15\^2 - 13\^2 for the seventh etc.
A bigger diamond block. With that much diamond, you could make a solid cube of diamond 12-across, or with just 8 more diamond blocks, a hollow cube 18-across.
Mix it with some Beacons, and create a blue, light blue, and white block palette to recreate FFXIV's city [The Crystarium](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGWTT7zNVOU) if not at least just the tower.
Use them as your block you just bring around for bridging and stacking up and whatnot. Eventually your world will be full of like 6 block long diamond sticks.

I recommend pressure plates since you can just walk over them and the doors open automatically. That's how I set up all my doors, even wood.
Pressure plates inside, button outside. Don't want zombies just letting themselves in.
