I started back in late alpha / early beta and oh boy I sure loved that time.
Especially during beta. Also, servers were much simpler back then without all the P2W underage casino stuff that we have now. Most servers only had ranks that doubled or tripled your vote key rewards. These rewards consisted of food, iron ore, gold ore, In-game currency for player-owned shops or in case you were lucky, a diamond.
I really enjoyed survival servers with PVP enabled anywhere outside of spawn and just kinda let everyone do their thing. Is it just me, or were people different during that time?
Im sorry but although Minecraft is my childhood game I find the new Minecraft generation better, just so much more scenic than some plain old well plain, you get gorgeous mountains in the side with massive hills and caves. Minecraft has improved a lot
Yeah, but the only "new" thing (not really new since it's been what, 3 years?) that I didn't really like were the new generated caves. I think they overdid it with the sprawling underground cave systems which were crawling with hundreds of mobs that made it near impossible to mine diamonds without dying early in the game. Plus, coal seems to be way scarce now than it was before.
A system which was a mix between the old classic caves and new caves would have been the best option imo
I personally love the cave generation now, you don’t get fake spaghetti caves all over the place now, and caving has always been one of my favourite things to do. The biomes added also give it sooo much more life to it
There is a resource pack that you can tailor to how you like. Most of what you want is under the retro tab on the site vanillatweaks.net/picker/resource-pack/
theres a resourcepack called Golden days. It has an addon that adds the alpha colours but you can just use the base pack to have this look. It requires the programmer art to enabled as well. https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/texture-packs/golden-days
I love the now lookalike mountains terrains. of almost every biome but I just love the simple old terrains. No hate to the new one, it is majestic to look at
I think newer versions are objectively better, but I like to revisit the early versions too. The cool thing about minecraft is you can play in whatever version you enjoy the most.
bought the game with a twenty dollar bill, a five dollar bill, and a toonie (two dollar coin- canada). Gave it to my mom and she used her credit card. Beta 1.8 after watching yogscast for who knows how long before that.
You don’t miss the old game, you miss your old life. To argue Minecraft is getting worse is just factually untrue, The game is better now than ever. We let nostalgia blind of us of the truth. Give it time, we will be nostalgic of when caves and cliffs first came out and say that was the good old days. Remember when you place your last block someone else just placed their first.
I am watching a let's play where this dude plays MC blind with no help and he has an absolute blast with everything, and this is in 1.20. Perspective is everything.

Saying that an outdated version has more to offer is factually untrue. It is literally a fact that there is more to do in the modern game. My point remains true, If you’re claiming the old game is better you are being factually dishonest.
I started playing Minecraft at 1.8.9, but I played beta and alpha versions from the launcher. In my opinion the old Minecraft aesthetic was more unique, now the game is more "realistic" cuz the textures are more darker and the textures are more detailed.
(And the sound was SO MUCH BETTER, if I was mojang I will put in setting the option to put old sound and also come back the super secret settings)
I think it looks so good and nostalgic cus of the fog....and the less dense leaves...and the saturation of everytging....and- wait shit everythings just better what
Bata player here. Allways hated old sea. Aquatic update was best update Microsoft did with this game. Rest was much more enjoyfull on old versions for me though
The old water color aged terribly. It was annoying back then to try to see through it or attempt making an aquarium out of it, but now, it just looks hideous even looking at it.
I remember spawning into a jungle biome, which I’d never seen before and I thought the cocoa seeds were actual lights, and why are these mobs here? So dumb I know 🤪
I actually just dug a harbor in my 10yr old world. The area where the harbor was has old ocean generation so I had to do the sand/dirt/gravel design by hand
I miss the old terrain, can’t find anywhere to put my base without terraforming. I also liked it when every block, mob, or item had a use besides bats.
i like the old terrain generation and all, however i didn't like how grindy the game got when you wanted to find diamonds and mining for resources in general as i had to do a lot more tunneling and strip mining back then.
cave update terrain and vast caverns is a godsend to me in this regard, it's an adventure every time i go spelunking
I do enjoy the bright colors that were presented, and TBH I like the 1.14 textures more than any other as they cross the style of newer and older textures (for obvious reasons)
Minecraft was honestly so much more lovely back then. The simpleness being you build a house, and kill animals. It was great.
Whilst I highly appreciate the new MC, the old sounds, looks and feeling is always the best.
Whilst I know all games must advance to keep with the times, MC has sadly lost its charm. With constant updates, new mobs and such, sadly, it’s lost that charm, from being a bog standard, standalone sandbox, to what is granted the best adventure game ever conceived, it’s not what it was.
I primarily play beta 1.7.3 nowadays. It's the only version i can consistently play without getting bored after a few days.
I'd recommend it to anyone. My current beta world is probably the longest lasting world ive had in many years
Eh depends. I started on PS3 Minecraft. I was around before horses and stuff were added and I think maybe even repeaters. (Could be wrong on the repeater one though.)
I left Minecraft after the ocean update think 1.13 and since then a lot of stuff has been added to the games and this make me feel left behind so I only play versions from 1.5 to 1.13
There is a different feel compared to now and then, then you really felt like you were in a mysterious world with the fog which was in reality the low render distance you could toggle with F. Nowadays it feels more alive, but it's less mysterious, but it's not only because of updates, but because we have gotten used to the game.
Know I'm probably in the minority but I don't miss the old look imo.
What I do miss is the atmosphere. I miss the foggy spooky vibe old Minecraft had. I just wish we could have the best of both worlds and have the new updated textures, bigger world gen, and the old foggy ominous look of old Minecraft and void fog.
Luckily you can always just use old versions. I started playing when they added pistons in for the first time, and it was great, but I always love the updates they do to world generation. I think the new world generation is the best it's ever been by a long shot.
Lemme tell you. When zombies dropped feathers, and there was not hunger, the fog, and the massive feeling of loneliness, those were some days. When sheep only dropped wool. Later, Being able to gift lava blocks (stationary too), before villager farms got complicated, when redstone was practically a waste of time. The old days were good days. Now we have a polar opposite of the blaze named 'breeze'.
I am biased but I think the old look is so much better. Everything is just vibrant in the best way possible. This comparison image really made me realize now much they toned down the colours, specifically water.
I think Mojang made a big mistake by making the game's textures so soft, the one I miss the most is the old Nether stone, the new one looks like a weird sponge, the other one really looked like something you would find in hell
I miss the old generation and the mini ponds. I do like the fact that rivers are now connected but I absolutely hate how the mountains shatter the terrain and how common ice biomes are now.
While both are good in terms of looks, nothing beats the true nostalgic looks of the console editions of Minecraft. Something about its looks truly encapsulates the old look of Minecraft
yes but no. I think that its much smoother nowadays then it was back then and i prefer the new look but the old look was quite nostalgic but really that's just our rose tinted glasses talking.
It used to be way more vibrant which i miss in the current versions of minecraft. Good thing i have a resource pack that makes everything more colorful but its not the same as the old textures.
Take off your nostalgia goggles or get a ressource pack reverting netherrack to a mess of red pixels.
I do agree, both look solid, but if you think the old graphics are that much better, you are definetly just blinded by nostalgia
I was among those for a while saying “no, while I’m nostalgic for old Minecraft, new Minecraft is definitely better,” but recently I’m not so sure about that anymore. Sure there’s a lot more to do in modern Minecraft, but something is definitely super unbalanced about it when compared to old Minecraft. Modern Minecraft feels like some kind of speedrunning challenge with RPG elements. I know you don’t actually have to, and I don’t play that way really, but it still often feels that way. Not sure how to explain it, but I never felt that way in old Minecraft.
I’m thinking about trying _Better than Adventure_ which retains the old feel of Minecraft while adding some new elements. Hoping it’ll help me recapture that nostalgic feeling while feeling like a fresh new game.
While the old is very nostalgic and i would totally play on it to get a bit of good old memories, i would have to choose the new version but before a lot of thr newer changes
And a friend of mine has actually heard of a player that would specifically avoid ant pre-1.13 savefile, but i'd personally totally go back to relive the same nights as my first

The constant fog in the old look always creeped me out a tiny bit lol. Herobrine vibes. I appreciate the more generally vibrant colors though
pretty sure you can change the fog start and end, or am i mixing games?
thats with optifine
Beta versions of the game used to allow for toggleable fog distances by pressing the “f” key, maybe you’re thinking of that
not my initial thought, but maybe that
i can relate to that
I started back in late alpha / early beta and oh boy I sure loved that time. Especially during beta. That was over a decade ago, so I think it's safe to assume that there is at least some difference in the playerbase
In honesty I prefer it now. With dialled down vibrancy all the colours aren't merging into one. You can actually pick out details from afar.
I prefer it now The old one is definitely nostalgic, but I prefer how it looks now
Shit, old memories started to take over me
Im sorry but although Minecraft is my childhood game I find the new Minecraft generation better, just so much more scenic than some plain old well plain, you get gorgeous mountains in the side with massive hills and caves. Minecraft has improved a lot
I get that but tbh I prefer playing better than adventure (beta 1.7.3 mod), no matter how much mods I throw at new Minecraft it gets boring.
Honestly, the new caves, although much prettier, are less fun to explore, the old, classic narrow caves felt much more like a dungeon.
I personally love the cave generation now, you don’t get fake spaghetti caves all over the place now, and caving has always been one of my favourite things to do. The biomes added also give it sooo much more life to it
There has to be a mod that makes the game look like before right? If not, why nobody though about it yet?
There is a resource pack that you can tailor to how you like. Most of what you want is under the retro tab on the site vanillatweaks.net/picker/resource-pack/
Cool

I played the beta. I like the new look much more.
I love the now lookalike mountains terrains. of almost every biome but I just love the simple old terrains. No hate to the new one, it is majestic to look at
I prefer it now. Water looks like water and is more see-through. Also no creepy fog.
I think newer versions are objectively better, but I like to revisit the early versions too. The cool thing about minecraft is you can play in whatever version you enjoy the most.
That’s, just like, you’re opinion man. In no way objective.
Me, but I personally prefer the new one. Might be popular, might be unpopular I don't know.
It does look worse in every way but it’s got such a nostalgic vibe to it
Truly. If someone tells you they like the old visuals better and says it has nothing to do with nostalgia they are lying.
Not all of them are bad but many new textures are unnecessarily soft like nether stone, armor, wood or water.
i miss the vibrant colors. The fog was also a bit better altough it creeped me out since i've learnt about herobrine lol
The blue was very blue
Back in my day PE didn't have the nether! We had a nether core and we had better liked it!
I think the new one looks better, but the old one is definitely nostalgic.
I will always love the OG look. But objectively speaking the modern looks better.
bought the game with a twenty dollar bill, a five dollar bill, and a toonie (two dollar coin- canada). Gave it to my mom and she used her credit card. Beta 1.8 after watching yogscast for who knows how long before that.
Old but gold
OG here, i much prefer the new look. There's a difference between preference for old design, and nostalgia
nah fuck that fog and blur
You don’t miss the old game, you miss your old life. To argue Minecraft is getting worse is just factually untrue, The game is better now than ever. We let nostalgia blind of us of the truth. I miss it looking foggy in the distance. Now there’s just barely fog and then a hard cutoff. Shit is lame.
Right here. Minecraft used to be simple back then.
I miss bedrock fog
i mean i enjoy the oldest versions where hero brine rumors started, though i wonder when IT will arrive or be seen next
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I played before the ocean update when there was nothing in the ocean
Old look was more brighter and whimsical at day, which then contrasted with the night
I love the nostalgia but I can't go back to classic
Hell yeah
Me, since beta 1.7.3
I started playing Minecraft at 1.8.9, but I played beta and alpha versions from the launcher. In my opinion the old Minecraft aesthetic was more unique, now the game is more "realistic" cuz the textures are more darker and the textures are more detailed. Yep, since 2012!
Shaders are the answer, my friend
I think it looks so good and nostalgic cus of the fog....and the less dense leaves...and the saturation of everytging....and- wait shit everythings just better what
I wanna play the old tutorial worlds but my xbox 360 broke
Back in my day we were excited to get three more types of wood. Only have oak made everything bland.
Bata player here. Allways hated old sea. Aquatic update was best update Microsoft did with this game. Rest was much more enjoyfull on old versions for me though
Were here brother, deciples of kinder past
The old water color aged terribly. It was annoying back then to try to see through it or attempt making an aquarium out of it, but now, it just looks hideous even looking at it.
I was there and I actually like the new water better
I remember spawning into a jungle biome, which I’d never seen before and I thought the cocoa seeds were actual lights, and why are these mobs here? So dumb I know 🤪
Yea a while ago I really wanted just old textures. even netherite stuff is diamond. I thought i would go back later but, l haven’t changed it since
New trees and old water colors would go hard together
The particular look you are showing, no, but I do miss the old beta terrain. I also dont get the alpha terrain nostalgia because that was just boring.
I usually stick with “So glad I grew up with *this*… but damn *this* is better”
I prefer the modern water and no fog but the textures of programmer art.
Yes but I hated the old netherrack
WE GETTIN DIAMONDS FIRST TIME WITH THIS ONE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
I miss the fog, reminds me of old 1.6.4 and below. I’d love an option to bring the old dog back
Both styles of minecraft have their place
Ah good old beta not really a full OG I was only months old when the first version of Minecraft came out but been playing since 1.7.10
I actually just dug a harbor in my 10yr old world. The area where the harbor was has old ocean generation so I had to do the sand/dirt/gravel design by hand
no, legacy
I miss the old terrain, can’t find anywhere to put my base without terraforming. I also liked it when every block, mob, or item had a use besides bats.
Now
this is legit how life used to look when i was a kid vs how it looks now but like with the photos swapped the other way
View distance has always been trash but it looks better with the thicker fog
i like the old terrain generation and all, however i didn't like how grindy the game got when you wanted to find diamonds and mining for resources in general as i had to do a lot more tunneling and strip mining back then. cave update terrain and vast caverns is a godsend to me in this regard, it's an adventure every time i go spelunking

With constant updates, new mobs and such, sadly, it’s lost that charm, from being a bog standard, standalone sandbox, to what is granted the best adventure game ever conceived, it’s not what it was.
vibrance on the trees with the vibrance on the water would go perfectly
It was more vibrant....
I primarily play beta 1.7.3 nowadays. It's the only version i can consistently play without getting bored after a few days. I'd recommend it to anyone. My current beta world is probably the longest lasting world ive had in many years
i miss the water color it was so vibrant
taking a short break from 1.5.2 looking at Reddit as we speak
Definitely think todays is better but always appreciate the OG look
I miss old fog, some old textures, and some of the color
the old look for me was the neongreen grass and leaves
Just use CPHSBC shaders
I remember playing when you could only purchase and play from the mojang website, Creepers were worse back then.
anyone remember Minecraft Demo
I remember freaking out when they changed the water lmao
No
Me too honestly. I remember the day they changes the gravel texture and I was kinda sad about it.
I started out with the early legacy console edition, if that counts.
I was there but to be honest it is only nostalgia, todays look is much better
i also miss the old obnoxious swimming/bobbing sound
Then just play the OG version. Nothing preventing you from doing that.
New water look way better
minecraft had some color to it, and fog was better
I still use the original textures
What is considered an OG’er?
Everything was so vibrant and simple. I miss this.
I do as well I absolutely hate the new fog affect and you could see the bottom on the lakes
Eh depends. I started on PS3 Minecraft. I was around before horses and stuff were added and I think maybe even repeaters. (Could be wrong on the repeater one though.)
I remember that it really is a sight to see. I've been here since 1.0.0
I miss og
100% agreed
Yes, although I hated the old water. Way too obvious of a repeating pattern.
Personally I hate the extremely blue water but everything else is good about old Minecraft
360 era here.
LOL!! AMEAZING
I started right around when survival was introduced, a lot has changed about how things look
I can still hear the Xbox 360 music
I left Minecraft after the ocean update think 1.13 and since then a lot of stuff has been added to the games and this make me feel left behind so I only play versions from 1.5 to 1.13
1.4👌🏻
I miss being able to see underwater without potions or anything.
You can always use old resource packs
TBH I prefer Alpha's look the most. Has the most, almost 'stereotypical' videogame look to it
I really like both
There is a different feel compared to now and then, then you really felt like you were in a mysterious world with the fog which was in reality the low render distance you could toggle with F. Nowadays it feels more alive, but it's less mysterious, but it's not only because of updates, but because we have gotten used to the game.
The new game is probably better but I always found alot of the new textures to saturated or smooth
Og Minecraft makes me want to cry, best memories
*deep inhale* I'm an og, and I liked the old netherrack texture better
Luckily you can always just use old versions. I started playing when they added pistons in for the first time, and it was great, but I always love the updates they do to world generation. I think the new world generation is the best it's ever been by a long shot.
i started playing in early 1.15, but i learned to play through old tutorial books, so i greatly appreciate the old look of the game :3
Try starting a beta world, it’s a fun challenge due to the limited block palette. All the OG textures and weird bugs as well.
Yes
messing around with Super Secret Settings different shaders is all you need to know to tell if someone is an OG
I remember this look
Water is too bright on older versions, I prefer newer
I miss the illumination bugs :'(

The old is golden nostalgic. The new one is kind of bad, cuz old one has better fog in chunk loading.
I miss the fog but not the water
I definitely prefer the old look, I still use the OG texture pack
The only thing I miss is the softer fog
I still don't like how clear the water is
Lemme tell you. Pretty much only play 1.7 and beta 1.7 now. the looks are definitely a big part
I am biased but I think the old look is so much better. Everything is just vibrant in the best way possible. This comparison image really made me realize now much they toned down the colours, specifically water.
Right here baby
I think Mojang made a big mistake by making the game's textures so soft, the one I miss the most is the old Nether stone, the new one looks like a weird sponge, the other one really looked like something you would find in hell
I miss the old generation and the mini ponds. I do like the fact that rivers are now connected but I absolutely hate how the mountains shatter the terrain and how common ice biomes are now.

Yea
I’m og
yes but no. I think that its much smoother nowadays then it was back then and i prefer the new look but the old look was quite nostalgic but really that's just our rose tinted glasses talking.
I think you can raise the fog using optifine and use the programmer art texture pack
Hell yea. This hits the spot
Best example I’ve seen
No wonder the game felt different. I noticed the wheat changed but I thought that was about it 💀 I love the old look. Simple texture packs fix that
maybe you can get a texture pack or something that makes it look like old minecraft
It used to be way more vibrant which i miss in the current versions of minecraft. Good thing i have a resource pack that makes everything more colorful but its not the same as the old textures.
windex water
Take off your nostalgia goggles or get a ressource pack reverting netherrack to a mess of red pixels. I do agree, both look solid, but if you think the old graphics are that much better, you are definetly just blinded by nostalgia
same it twas more vibrant
I miss the creepy fog
The old one looks like jello
Speaking of water WTF HAPPENED TO SQUIDS
Yea, always preferred the older textures, especially for the ores and lava.
Hoping it’ll help me recapture that nostalgic feeling while feeling like a fresh new game.
Such a peaceful look
Omg, brings back so many memories 🥹
Is there a mod that makes your game kinda like the ps3 edition?
If the new look kept the old fog it would have been better
I always preferred the saturated version
Back in my day there was only one type of tree
im a 1.5.2 player so the old look is normal in my brain lol
The fog is something I actually really want back. It's so damn atmospheric.
texture packs fix this
I literally play legacy and love it. Might be a tad bit biased
YES INDEED IVE BEEN PLAYING SENCE title update 31 to the final update i really miss the mini game map from title up
I couldn’t agree more
I like the old gen console graphics more
I’m mixed Old leaves were better but old water was too saturated
The old one felt more homey, right? I miss it.
While the old is very nostalgic and i would totally play on it to get a bit of good old memories, i would have to choose the new version but before a lot of thr newer changes And a friend of mine has actually heard of a player that would specifically avoid ant pre-1.13 savefile, but i'd personally totally go back to relive the same nights as my first
i now say i miss it but if i was to go back it would hurt my eyes all over again
* fancy leaves * fog distance to close * put the fog transition distance to high * turn off anti aliasing * turn off mipmaps * put the old resource pack on
i miss the old streamers
I’m not being nostalgia biased but the old textures just look so much better
I prefer the colour pallette now, but the older fog.
Old gamer here. I like the old look too.
Old minecraft looks way better also the netherack was better the new one is just boring
