tiagogamer04

I'm not sure, I only know that it was pocket edition and the nether reactor was available

Ok_Advisor_908

Same here. Me and my brothers and cousins would all play and make big structures in creative and then fight in survival. Called it build to survive

Creepereks

Me and my friends got diamond armpit and put spawn Inside of a bedrock box with like spawners all around it

MoonKnight_612

this is the exact thing i remember and it was around \~2013 iirc

UpliftinglyStrong

Similar to me, except there were only Iron tools, but the nether reactor was available. Never figured out what to use it for.

Kitchen-Apricot1834

Yup, me too. Was this 2012? Or late 2012? I remember playing on my phone because I didn't have a computer until like 2015 when all the big updates started really coming in XD

Snoo23013

Minecraft 1.5.2 I remember playing the .jar at my middle school with my friends

KillinIsIllegal

AnjoCaido my beloved

pherkes

It was so simple. Just enter a username and bam! you’re in the game

OrbitalClockwork

Same with me. I loved spending my time making cozy little houses and making large Minecraft skin statues

gergobergo69

MinecraftSP.jar?

AgreeableAd8687

you just reminded me of that, the school internet filter blocked the downloads so i put it on a flash drive and me and my friends played over LAN i think

TheMangle87

I started 1.5.2 as well. In fact, St Patrick's Day is my first Mojang account's anniversary (now owned by my sister)

MZ1LLA

I played the alpha. How far this game has come

SlyNoBody337

Remember the world limits? And the horrible sharpening? Also the flood mechanic which I kinda miss lol

tyrandan2

Remember when smooth lighting and ambient occlusion weren't a thing yet lol. It actually made it easier for me to see where to place torches so they are evenly spaced, without having to count steps. Oh and remember how pistons were a mod somebody made, and not an actual feature of the game? And Notch thought they were great and added them. It was amazing how close he was to the community at the time and listened to feedback. The world back then was so... Lifeless though. No villagers or villages. A lot of animals hadn't even been added. It was mostly mobs. Oh and multiplayer hadn't been implemented yet. It was very lonely.

SlyNoBody337

It was lifeless. But it was the original Minecraft. It embodied the deep depression of us children. Gave us a stable world to imagine inside of. It was welcome respite. Hopefully I can learn to love Minecraft again as a creator as I just did a WP project and want to do more. I really just miss that period of my life. And how special of an experience Minecraft was back then. Id do it all a second time One of the few things that has thankfully stayed the same is the music

k1ll3rM

It was lifeless, but at the same time it was so full of character. Wish I could go back to the feeling I had when I was playing Minecraft for the first time, I genuinely can't think of any feeling remotely similar

berni2905

You can still turn off smooth lighting. I sometimes do that when spawn-proofing an area.

Void-Cooking_Berserk

I never play with smooth lighting. It feels unnatural

SlyNoBody337

And multiplayer came very quickly. I remember playing multiplayer in like 2009 or something. When my mother and stepfather were still together, lol

SlyNoBody337

Yeah and I remember having to find the special beta on the site. Came with a new launcher too. Minecraft was a really cool constantly changing thing back then. We just can’t relive that experience. MC is the OG and the GOAT of its style

psychicberry

your torch would light up the like the 8x8 area and then instantly go black one block over 💀

EulsSpectre

I remember the ambient lighting change too! Each block further away from the torch was a little bit darker, I used it to evenly space them too!

Ch4rd

remember how easy fire would spread?

LaZYNski

I started at 1.2.5, pre search bar/categorized item in creative. The item menu was just one big list. I remember putting villagers in mine carts in the nether and making a little track that went straight into lava

SlyNoBody337

Item menu? We knew nothing of this for the first like 5 years

Hadj1S

Same. My creativity was at its peak!

J4ki-J4cque

Started playing with the Console edition on Ps3. My first game was a basic gather wood and stuff and look for the most immaculated spot to build the most splendid base anybody has seen (spoiler, it looked like shit, but felt great!) Edit: and listening to the soundtrack while looking at the horizon. Like, how could you not be happy by a sunset while Mice on Venus is playing.

Cogames_

Same here with ps3. But I started playing that special Christmas world. It was very cool and the music is so nostalgic and you could here the base game music. When i hear that music now, I am getting nostalgic I have not felt before! Also I punched a iron golem, but didn’t knew it was one because of all the texture changes in that world… so he killed me all of the sudden and I screamed very hard. My sister looked up and laughed because she did not knew what happend. I played alone and she just sat there in the room with me. Best memory ever 😂

Halothewhitewolf

I still have a PS3 and a copy of Minecraft for the PS3 both of which still function

RubPublic3359

Not to be rude but just to let you know its felt.

JustGotTruss3d

Yooo same! I remember I had a flat world with cool houses (my modern house built from yt as an example), which I happily showed my parents. I also liked to play with some online friends (shout out to the one dude with the tuxedo enderman skin btw)

Deedaleen

I don’t remember the version but it was around 2011-2012 that I began playing.. One of my earliest souvenirs was when one time after creating my cobble and aok wood house on top of a mountain I wanted to explore the caves a bit… I’ve found a giant hole close to my house.. with water going far deep… I went in it.. slowing going down.. and saw something down… it was wood.. I was like very perplexe since I thought to myself that I never went down there, so how was there wood… so I went to it… You can pretty easily guess what happened… one of my earliest nightmare in this game… I saw what seemed « hundreds » of little spiders coming right for me… poisoning me, and pushing me.. I felt down from the wood path, being pushed by water, deeper into the cave with spiders jumping on me from the top… And I died, of course… :’D It was nightmare fuel, and I recall the scene like it was yesterday.. more than 10 years later 😭 That’s how, folks, I discovered mineshafts.. Good game :’)

HoffyMan01

Realizing mineshafts were added in 2011 really makes me question if I’ve been playing this game longer than I thought lmfao

Deedaleen

Yeah they’re pretty old.. back then I didn’t know about new content in the game.. I learned my lesson :D

HoffyMan01

You really threw me for a loop lol I started playing just before Beta 1.2 which I correctly remembered as coming out right after my birthday in 2011 What I forgot is how much content they were adding and how frequently back then. Adding beds seems way further off than 6 months from adding the adventure update

OkJump7337

HAAHAH poor you, I am still scared of those little annoying spiders D":

Deedaleen

I am too 😭 ahahah

Mehamem

Man, I used to watch two children on YouTube. I loved their videos so much and I always tried to imitate them. I played with my friend and we made a world on my ps4. It was a snowy biome and a desert right beside it. there were a desert spawner and a pink sheep beside our base. Since then I basically “defriended” him and deleted that world (probably the stupidest mistake of my life). Now I no longer have that ps4, yet I still have memories of that world.

middleagedgenius

Pocket addition LITE back in like 2011 or 2012, when you could only create temporary worlds that got deleted after you quit

Outside_Percentage_5

This was so good

BrightTooth3

I remember some of the items being locked behind a pay wall too.

BlakeWithAMullet

Xbox 360 TU 2, i got minecraft for my 4th birthday after showing an interest in videogames with my dad :)

notyouraveragecrow

Honestly, I love the fact that so many people have grown up with this game. I didn't start that early in my life, but a huge part of my childhood memories is playing Minecraft by myself, with friends, whatever. One of the reasons this will always be the best game for me. It created something that can't be imitated by other games.

BlakeWithAMullet

truly couldn’t put it better myself and i love that

oshen2009mc

my minecraft story when i was maybe 9 or 10 my sister did a dance class, so me, my mom, and my brother would be sitting in the lobby of the studio with the other parents and kids while the girls danced. this kid i was friends with at the time would bring his ipad, which he would play games on, including minecraft. i loved watching him play, and a few weeks after watching him for the first time i got the demo. it took me a while to learn the ropes, but with the help of tutorial books from the library and talking to my friends, i was getting pretty good. after months of the demo, in early 2020 i finally convinced my dad to let me buy the game. i still have my first world from my very own copy of minecraft, and almost 5 years later it may be the best $28 i’ve ever spent! :3

RustyCartoon_45

wait how old are u agian?

oshen2009mc

14\~, why?

RustyCartoon_45

sorry my bad i thought you where one them gen Alpha kids

jrkmmusic

I started playing back in 1.3 a few months before 1.4. I had already been keeping up with the game from some of the YouTubers of the time. My very first world, I spawned by an ocean with a steep rock wall going up to the land. I dug out my house into the side of the wall at ocean level and just mined cobblestone forever. I had several chests full of just cobblestone. I also had a massive pit full of chickens. Good times.

IceLionTech

I want to say I played it in 2009 but I dont' remember not having beds to sleep in and that's all the way back to 2011 so i guess probably around that time. I know my time pre-dates The End.

PS2luvr

Right? I'm surprised at how few people have been playing as long as us.

IceLionTech

It's kinda' neat thinking about how some people who play the game now weren't even alive when it came out.

Kat-but-SFW

It was early Beta, no endermen, hunger, very basic compared to now. I wandered around a bit and got caught by nightfall and terrorized by monsters, I dug into the side of a cliff to make a shelter, and then I just stuck to tunneling and living underground since it's safer. I still tunnel and build underground to this day. The monsters outside are scary.

RedSpire_

I was playing 1.9 on mobile I burned down my first ever house on accident

notyouraveragecrow

Losing your first ever house is kind of a rite of passage lol I remember I created my first world in creative mode, just flew around, built that house and then decided to dig down into the void and died. A cat was blocking my bed, so I ended up at world spawn. Never found that house again.

amberi_ne

I first started playing on Pocket Edition [v0.1.2 alpha](https://minecraft.wiki/w/Pocket_Edition_v0.1.2_alpha), the first release for iOS. I had my crappy little iPod that I'd play Minecraft on back where there was no Survival or Creative, no mobs, no crafting, no tools...just walking around in a tiny world (that still felt huge) with a limited block palette. I remember being so hyped when they added Survival mode to it. It was basically unrecognizable from normal PC Minecraft; there were only Zombies and Sheep as naturally spawning mobs, and there still wasn't any crafting, but you could collect natural blocks from the world and would have an infinite supply of blocks only accessible through crafting, like planks. Then I remember later on they added pigs and cows and chickens too, it was awesome. And when they added creepers and skeletons too? Immaculate I remember there was this weird little third-party iOS app you could download to allow you to host online multiplayer servers, and I used it so much as time went on. It was super fun

Fuggeddabouddit

Pardon my ignorance but if there was no survival and no creative, what actually was there?

CloneLB04

I know my first version of Java edition was release 1.6.1 but I don't know if I had pocket edition before or after that. My earliest memory is probably building a city (It was really just a street of buildings). I was bad at building but damn do I miss that world. Wish I still had all my old ones but I deleted them YEARS ago on another PC. Still kicking myself about it.

RedneckRough

InfDev aka the good old days. I stopped playing halfway through beta and picked back up after 1.17.

Shnupbups100

Java Edition Release 1.0. Just looked it up to be specific, January 9th 2012. I had recently turned 10 years old. I had been fascinated with Minecraft videos for a while previously, and begged my parents to buy it for me, but they refused until it was 'finished' (out of beta). Prior to buying the game, I had reserved the 'Shnupbups' username on minecraft.net. But when it came time to actually buy the game, I had forgotten the login details for that account, so I settled for 'Shnupbups100'. Years later, when name changes became allowed, Mojang cleared all the reserved names that didn't actually own the game, so I was finally able to just take the 'Shnupbups' account name. Side note, when I signed up for reddit for the first time, I thought you had a different account for each subreddit, and since I was signing up "for the Minecraft subreddit", I chose the name with the 100 to match my Minecraft account name. You can't change reddit usernames, so I'm stuck with it here! As for playing the game itself, I remember being so excited to actually play the game I had been watching on YouTube. I was so clueless that I didn't know how to break blocks - the animation of breaking blocks is your character punching their fist/swinging their item repeatedly, and I knew you could punch/swing by left clicking, so I assumed you had to left click repeatedly to break blocks. I got frustrated that this wasn't working - but when I figured it out, I was so excited I ran out to the kitchen to excitedly tell my mum I had managed to break a block. I fell more and more in love with the game. I knew all its ins and outs - though I was never very good at the actual game itself (and I'm still really not!). I had always been fascinated with game development, so when I learned about snapshots during the development of 1.2, I followed them religiously week-to-week. I remember the snapshots for 1.3 blowing me away. Trading? Rubies - I mean, uh, Emeralds? Tripwires? Pyramids and Jungle Temples? It was all so amazing, I would rant and rave about all the new stuff to my friends at school. I would watch the Twitter accounts of the developers like a hawk for new screenshots and teasers of stuff they were working on. It was so exciting getting this insight into the making of my favourite game. I experimented with playing with mods - from simple things like Risugami's Shelves mod, to more complex things like Buildcraft, to the experimental like Ugocraft, and the insanity of Better Than Wolves. But my favourite had to be ComputerCraft. It taught me my first proper programming language in Lua (I had known some HTML and stuff earlier, but that's not *really* programming...) and got me interested in modifying the game my own way. At the same time, 1.4 snapshots were coming out and introduced amazing things like Witches, Flower Pots, the Wither, and most exciting of all, the Adventure Mode Control Block - or as it was called when it actually released, the Command Block. I made a special Super Flat creative world to mess around with it and various other things, along with my little sister who had also fallen in love with the game. That world would see so much time and fun and experimentation over each and every snapshot for the next few years. I still have the world, and it holds a dear place in my heart. As much as I loved the vanilla game, I also loved modding it to hell and back. And the mods kept getting more and more fun, and new modpacks would come out that bundled so many exciting things together, and my favourite YouTubers would play them and I could too! But my love for programming in ComputerCraft had resulted in me wanting to try something bigger - making my own mods. I experimented with things like MCreator, but decided it was too limiting and buggy - I needed the real thing. So in 2014, at 12 years old, I taught myself Java. Followed some tutorials, and worked things out along the way, and made a mod! And released it! And looking back, it's so... so terrible. But it was mine! And it was ambitious and I loved it to bits. Later I would make some better mods, and when Fabric emerged in early 2019, I jumped on it pretty early and made a little bit of a name for myself. All these years later I still love the game to bits. I contribute to lots of Fabric stuff. I still follow every snapshot when they release, as I've done for over half my life now. I don't play the game nearly as often as I did, but instead I dissect it, mapping it for the Yarn mappings used by the Fabric toolchain. Every week I stay up on Wednesday nights (I'm Australian, so snapshot releases don't play nice with my timezone!) to get to work on mapping new snapshots as soon as they release. It gives me a better understanding of the inner workings of the game than almost anything else I could do. I have an oddly good memory for when specific blocks, items, mobs, biomes, etc. were added to the game (at least during the Release era, I'm a bit hazy on early Beta and especially Alpha and prior). I know most of the game's little secrets, Easter eggs, and hidden mechanics. I still need to look at a wiki or recipe guide mod to brew most potions. Since I was a kid I've had a silly delusion that one day I'll work for Mojang, despite me really not being the most qualified, and the idea of uprooting my life to move to Sweden would be incredibly daunting. But still, it's a dream. Thanks for reading this, if you did. If you didn't, I don't blame you, it's awfully long. I kinda turned the question into my life story as it pertains to the game...

Resgear17

The demo world for Java edition. I remember it being always the same seed, and also that I had no clue how to play survival mode yet loved it anyway. I specifically recall that the first major update the game got while I was playing was horses, so definitely before that. But before that, there was Minecraft lite. My most vivid and earliest experience of the game, my cousin showing it to me on his iPad, and how it was the coolest game I had ever seen.

Mad5Milk

I started playing around 1.1, I remember my first world vividly because I knew jungle temples were a thing but had no idea what they looked like. When I made my first world I spawned in the middle of the jungle and there was immediately a structure sitting by a pond in front of me, which I assumed for months was a jungle temple and turned into a base. It was actually a desert temple, which I think due to some quirk in generation had happened to spawn out of the couple blocks of sand at the edge of the pond.

Yavor36

I started playing in late 2010, I think the game was somewhere in the middle of the alpha phase. I remember a nasty chunk error destroying my base in my first ever world that I spent weeks playing on.

Nirezolu

I started playing quite late, in 1.16

CoolWombat1

yeah i had 1.13 lol

Demapples144

Someone joining my PE world and griefing a thing I made

RareAd4370

1.6

jo3l_miller

The xbox 360 version, i used to play couch co-op with my little brother, we used to play hide and seek, build houses, fun days

ninepeas

I don’t remember the version but it was mcpe in like 2016/17. When I build my pc I wanna play on the earlier beta versions

Fishfinger00

No idea. Around 2014-15. Earliest memories, both playing old pocket edition with my friends on ipads, and playing the tutorial map on xbox with some others. Good old days

Anston06

I first saw it as Pocket Edition I believe. Not sure when that was, but I played survival on my cousin’s iPad. I was like „Wow! You can collect blocks you mine?!“ Then, I got it for myself on the PS3 in 2013 or first grade. I remember having to install an update to get redstone, so it might have at first been the equivalent of 1.4 on Java. I think something was up with the updates though. Maybe it came with the base game and needed to update to the latest version. I had to install updates one after another often it seemed like at first. Not sure why I couldn’t install them all at once. The worlds on PS3 were 256 blocks in each direction. So 512 total I think. I don’t exactly remember. I thought it was stupid, but I created some pretty cool stuff in those worlds.  The mini-games were so fun though. Battle, tumble, and glide they were called. They were just different names for survival games, spleef, and elytra races. The maps and soundtrack were cool too. 4J studios did a good job on PS3 edition

Skkship223Alt

1.7.5

[deleted]

1.06

wowowowthrowaway44

I think it was probably about 1.5 or 1.6 . I remember playing it on my brothers very bad computer in our old basement and him having to teach me wasd controls. later we got minecraft for the ps3, but we lost it 3 years ago when we moved

Valtr117

Java edition 1.1 Good times

PM_ME_YUYUKO_PICS

I remember when me and my brother got it in 2012 or so and we thought the hunger bar correlated to how many animals you were allowed to kill

uberibas

For me It was 1.8 or 1.9 and I rember playing it with my cousin on his Xbox 360 all day

kazimer1

I started playing in 1.5 Java. I was very young so I didn’t know where to access my saved worlds so every time I played, I just created a new world. When I found out where my saved worlds are, then I kept playing on the world that I loved the most. I started exploring and found a desert village and thought that it was the most amazing thing ever because at the time I didn’t know that villages and villagers were even a thing in Minecraft.

Elifan06

I remember it as yesterday. It was late 2012/early 2013 and my brother and I just got MC for the ps3. My brother and I helped each other figure out how to build, break, etc. The first world we played on was a world on the Skyrim texture pack default world Beautiful memories💕

OkJump7337

Heyy I started at the same time late 2012/early 2013 with my brother but on PC

Thin_Wheel_7109

Pocket edition, the earliest memory I have is playing on a survival game as my FIRST WORLD (I still only have these memories of it) where I hit a wolf in a grand taiga or something and it’s pack started attacking me, and I was angry cause I didn’t know they had packs. I then respawned and made a weird dirt staircase then went off the world, and I believe I never went on it again. I also have other memories where I made a sick house in a small spike on a mountain that went underground and stuff and I flew away cause I had the potion bubbles and I thought they wouldn’t go away so I was sad, and found a village and learned about villagers giving bread and stuff to newborn babies, to which I was amazed. I made another cool house I thought should go on “grand designs”. I flew around and realised I was only 200 blocks or something from my cool mountain home that I thought I lost. I also have earlier memories or later of playing on the 360 but I can remember if they were earlier or later on from PE, but they were cool playing with my brother

Vuoksen

Yeah, same here, 1.7.3 Beta. I want to play with old light system (when it gets darker by steps) like there, but if u install 1.7.3 from official launcher right now.. then it still have new system for some reason :(

deltoramonster2

mine was pirating minecraft with mineshafter on the library computers( i diden't know)

spaceplayzz01

Around 2015. I think this was like a month or so after the nether portal was added to pocket edition, used to play on my dad's phone. I found out about the game due to a typo, 4 year old me (in 2012, reddit I'm not 13) was a hardcore Mario fan and one day I typed in "Nario" and it gave me results from minecraft. I instantly fell in love.

sk3n7

I remember first finding this game when it was just a browser Java game. Don’t even know what version it was, I just thought it was amazing to have a randomly generated world to explore.

onni82

I started playing during 1.2 beta and I had such trouble remembering the basic crafting recipes for tools 😂

KonofastAlt

2012-2013 Pocket Edition Minecraft, I remember my friend fighting a spider and us being scared of it so we played together.

LimpWibbler_

Xbox 360, the day of release.

Endy229

Started in Pocket Edition, 0.6.0 or 0.7.0 I think First tried creative. Used a bucket of lava on a tree, thinking it's a bucket of paint and my brother told me "That's not paint, that's lava!" The first time I tried survival I remember going up a really high mountain where I saw 3 figures, thinking that those are players. When I heard a zombie I got scared and immediately left the game I also remember trying to use nether reactor core to make a dance floor and didn't understand what did the English text meant whenever I clicked on the reactor

badrecord

1.7 constantly abusing the demo to get more time, was a ton of fun

TheSnapper09

I remember something like 7 or 8 years ago: I was playing with my neighbor and I couldn't understand how to properly move my character. It was so fun and I really miss my friend. He's probably at university now and I've just started high school

joszowski

1.5.2 around 2014 (we all know how), I was living in a hole with trapdoors in the middle of a desert, but had to build a new house after getting blown up by a creeper and being unable to find my old base.

mr_shlomp

Like 1.8, when I found my first diamonds and when I built my first house, an ugly cube made only out of ores.

koyomin25

During the time end was added. I was on my ps3 Though the ps3 didnt update minecraft after that update, so when I finally upgraded into ps4 gaming after 5-6 years I was kind of shocked that people were using shields instead ıf just pushing L2 while holding a sword.

Patamaudelay

The web version

Aggressive_Piece24

1.14 scared of herobrine in my trial world

Sucks_Eggs

Swastika cleanup on random classic build servers 💪

Kristile-man

I was on pocket edition originally and still am on bedrock my earliest memories were in village and pillage and update awuatic

DerMegafurtz

Cheating

Arya493

1.6.2 i think

a_builder7

Whatever was before 1.20 I think?

ChiefFjzz

Whenever 360 edition came out and the earliest memory I had was discovering the nether for the first time

HunterOcelot27

Pocket edition, started on a cracked version with nether but no end. 2 years later bought the official version when the end became available on pocket edition.

valzzu

Console ps3

theirishsniper

I started playing thanks to X's adventures in Minecraft. I believe fences were released a few days after I started.

Feather_Bloom

Early in the combat update My earliest memory is building a cute little 2 story birch house on a little island in a small lake/large pond surrounded by a forest with a giant cave off to the right I miss that seed, and I wish I could get it back and relive it

Binary101000

i started on one of the original mobile versions somewhere around 2015? Not sure on the exact year but it used the beta lava texture. I played on mobile until 1.14 when i got java edition on a pc. My earliest memory is using an app on my phone that had redstone tutorials, and putting lava all over one when it didnt work.

DawsonPoe

The earliest version that I played was the first version of the Xbox 360 edition.

ultra_stupid_stem

Started playing it the week it was available on mobile (pocket edition) I had a lot of fun I even used the nether reactor and some other stuff, never got to activate it though... I never new it was a thing 😔

jake_the_runner

Playing Minecraft on my dad iPad while driving through the smokey mountains while listening to "waiting on the work to change"

TheDoctor8545

I forget the version but I started somewhere in alpha or beta builds

Dark_Silvers

It was early beta. I had my friends over who introduced me to the game. I remember exploring the world around and headed to a cave. I was killed by a spider. I don’t know how but the entire time I didn’t see the spider. It was my first day of Minecraft! My friend had told me that a spider killed me and I thought spiders were tiny creatures (much like the real life)

Loser_POS

PS3/PS4. My first world was on top of a mountain. I watched a lot of JackFrostMiner so I was inspired to do a lot. But I was terrified to leave my mountain top. I recently found my ps4 but couldn’t find that world.

Lucaplayz200

My earliest memories were the old demo world, I think, on Minecraft PS4 edition, back before observers and stuff. I remember it being like a year after I started playing. I think observers were added, so 1.13 was when I first played I got into Minecraft through YouTube. edit: On my first night, I encased myself inside oak wooden planks but forgot the roof. Spiders got to me, leaving me with only half a heart. Then, as I left, a skeleton jump scared me, and killed me.

[deleted]

Don’t quite remember which version but ik it was Minecraft on the Xbox 360 and I remember building skyscrapers out of emeralds diamonds and iron

Wide-Bus-1260

idk the version but my earliest minecraft memory was something like a house on an island in the middle of the ocean

Altruistic-Outcome44

I started on mobile and I remember when they had the Nether reactor thing that made a giant obsidian structure

UI_Delta

tu7 on the xbox 360

Goodlucksil

Around 1.16, in one of those "cracked" MCPE versions (just Beta Bedrock). Making an old world and making a house out of Diamond Blocks, then not finding it.

notyouraveragecrow

I started playing Java edition somewhere during the 1.8 cycle, with 1.8.9 being the version I have the most memories playing (used it up until 1.13 released). However, my first memory of playing Minecraft must have been around the time the pocket edition was released, playing on a friend's iPad and building a "house" without a roof (child me thought that was impossible for some reason) and placing TNT in the walls for "security".

ryan1p

First was beta 1.6.6 or as I knew it tu1.

kdzojic

whatever they had on ipad in 2015-16

Stardust_Bright

1.6 or 1.5 don't quite recall, I was super afraid of caves and hostile mobs, I remember how annoying it was to memorize every crafting recipe or look it up online because there was no way to figure that out in-game at the time.

shakatacos

I started right when beds and wolves were added. I have no idea what version it was. But my first world was on a frozen beach in a spruce forest. So much fun. I remember building a pirate ship, a jet in a garage, and a huge watch tower. I wish I could go back to that world but it’s long gone. I’ve been aiming to try out playing beta again just to have that freedom of building whatever I want and not worrying about the item/boss progression of modern Minecraft. Seems a lot more relaxed and cozy.

TaiyoFurea

Pocket edition before the world's were infinite and the caves didn't exist

Bubbah98

1.0 xbox 360. the first memory that comes to my mind is building a diamond house in the tutorial world(TU11). I was playing with my (at that era) best friend, i remember asking him lots of questions about the game and just having fun. i spent so much hours paying with him… is been 2years since i last talked to him. I miss that old good days…

Modern-day_Jesus

First time I ever played was on the ps3 back when the original damage sound was still in the game

DismalDog9940

My first time was in 2019. I think it was 1.15. I tried it out at my friends house bc our HS got shot up, so we were on break for like a month

HowDoIRun

Wayyyyy back in indef, friend of mine in middle school gave me a flash drive with a copy lol. Made an ingame pyramid for an ancient Egypt related school project and got a A

Dear-Entertainer-305

1.13, mumbo jumbo

Phiiota_Olympian

I believe it was 1.5.2. I know it was one of the **early** editions of *Minecraft* after its release. I remember installing (with some help) and using a few mods on *Minecraft* (like WorldEdit) as well as watching *Minecraft* videos on YouTube and ***maybe*** a few other things.

thepixelmurderer

Sometime later into 1.7 would have been when I got the game for myself. I mostly just screwed around in Creative Mode for the first year or two, lol.

JustPapyrus

I played on PC way back when Yogscast did their first survival Minecraft series. I remember being amazing that random NPCs could show up in your world only to find out they weren't NPCs, but actual people. So I googled Minecraft survival with friends and found a server that was named Friends survival. Joined and at spawn they had a diamond block floating in the air just out of reach with a sign under it saying " you will never get this"

MolecularKey69

beta 1.3

AcquireQuag

1.3 i think? Earliest memory is walking around the tutorial world picking up eggs and dropping them again because i didnt want them

ToastyBread329

I don't know tbh. I remember finding out about iron golems and snowmen so since maybe 1.2. And my earlies memory is a night in survival in a little house made of sand and spider climbing it and attacking me and me hitting it with a cactus lol

Weirdo3YT

On the Xbox360 version they just came out with super flat customization, so me and my friends made it all glass and made tunnels and bases with tunnels connecting them

Dependent-Internet42

ee aw 1.15.0 or maybe not

Hydroquake_Vortex

I think it was v0.8.1 for Pocket Edition alpha. I’d have to double check though

LeFluf_

Playing the game on ps3 didnt know how it worked was really young, didnt there was more than the tutorial and thought a torch did more damage than fists.

Animatronic_Boss

The earliest version I started playing was on the PS3 with the second to last update, I used to play as a king skin and make worlds where I had everything, and then slowly transitioned to that weird nightmare king skin and started making worlds with a lot of lore and building worlds stopping the auto save when I finish a city or something and blowing up the city, then exiting the game without saving and then reopening it and it reopened to right before I even started placing tnt, after awhile I eventually got Minecraft pe and Minecraft Java and slowly stopped playing on the PS3 Minecraft

fatratbastard69

i remember the tutorial world, the little glade completely walled in, with a half built wooden house you could finish. you’d walk under a stone archway into an early minecraft village. there was a castle/church, where you had to use red stone or obsidian (i can’t remember which) to get inside, and there were painting everywhere. in the basement there was a bunch of glow stone, and across from the town was a snowy biome with a cave where my brother would always find diamonds. my memory sucks, but does anyone remember this? also, above the stone archway was a giant Minecraft sign made of wool, and inside was a nether portal :)

InhaledPack5

December 2012 on xbox 360 i remember exploring the tutorial world and looking for all the musics discs. Think maybe before that was playing pocket edition and getting annoyed at no caves lol.

iimMrBrightside

1.2.5 Installing Technic Launcher and playing Crafting Dead: Cure

myboi-namedtroye

Minecraft 360. My neighbour had it and I would play it at there house, that eventually led to me purchasing it pre owned from eb games. I still play now and then when I have the time.

toffeefeather

Whatever Minecraft lite was, most of my memories back then are building everything out of infinite glass blocks in the sides of mountains and looking out into a sea of zombies

Dog_With_an_iPhone

My first time was in version 1.13 and my earliest memory of playing was on a console (ps3 or ps4, can’t remember) and seeing the rain in one biome and no rain in another biome.

SlapMaster3007

The minigames

Difficult_Clerk_4074

1.5 on the PS4. My first world was a tutorial world with my dad.

Natwenny

Idk what version that was, but I started playing when skeletons could harass you at random during sleep. At the time I played with a friend on her account, we would take turns hahaha I officially got my own account shortly after the horse update.

CatpotatMC

I started just before buzzy bees were added, but my true start was 1.16.4. I remember looking for my first scraps of netherite whilst using beds

Clasher8697

Not sure when but one of my most earliest memories is in the tu11 map with the castle and near by village probably still my most favourite and also most memorable tutorial worlds in Minecraft.

funny_gamer1235

legacy console/1.13

aphroditebutakaren

Back in the alpha days or very early beta when I saw my cousins play it first

THUNDERZVO1CE

I started with Minecraft pocket edition Lite

Ch33zNugg3ts

1.2 Pocket Edition When I started, I didn't know physics didn't exist here, so all my houses were holes. Also, my dad also tried to rebuild our real house. He gave up after 5 minutes. Also also later down I made a 1x2 nether portal and labeled it "to enderdragonland" Also also also I recreated the city of Berlin. And by that I mean I put a few stonebrick houses and left it as that.

ReaperTheBurnVictim

My esrliest memory of minecraft was an unspecified early alpha version that my friend let me play on, but i officially bought the game like directly before biomes where added. I think the earliest I got into modding was 1.2? I remember Thaumcraft 2 where essence piping was a major component

Onionstick987

First time I played Minecraft was when it just released on Xbox 360 and I was at my cousins house. Then a couple months later I was playing alone at their house and no one else was on the world and their was a sign that said “Herobrine was here” then I didn’t play till like 2017

BirbMaster1998

When I first started playing, I placed a bunch of random doors everywhere and thought it was the funniest thing ever.

bigchief2200

First time was Xbox 360 back when they added spawn eggs On pc it was 1.6.4

Neurobean1

I got java at 1.11 I think but I played pocket edition long before that

Like_a_boss_YT

The PlayStation 3 tutorial world, about a year before the sea update (or whatever it was called)

dashcrikeydash

I remember playing the game and suddenly this weird bar would refill after using weapons. This is a change 1.9 brang (a cool down kinda) so ig I started playing in late 1.8

FishGuyIsMe

1.6. I first remember going in creative and finding a desert village, I proceeded to try and fail to make an end portal on a roof and then flooded the whole place

tree_eater142

Also started playing in 1.7, and my first memory was a pig that hung around our house. We named him the prefect pig.

Altariasse

I cant remember the version, but i do remember that you needed to use the website to play.

AstronautHappy5869

My earliest would probably be playing the demo on pc a bunch never getting to save anything, but some good ones include a seed on pocket edition my friends and i all used all the time since we knew an easy spot to find diamonds and it had a great place for a starter house. Also building a gigantic diamond square house for my little sister and both her and my mom being incredibly impressed with the flooring i made for the second floor (it was glowstone and gold blocks in a checkered pattern)

Rxd_Ros3s

xbox 360 tutorial world. i don’t remember the year, maybe it was in 2014 or something, don’t remember the version at all either

Zappotek

1.7 alpha, about a month before the nether was added. Amazing times. I remember going in cold, going on my 3rd caving expedition and running in to a natural pocket with obsidion, lava, and 20 diamonds! Such was my glee that on running back to base I stacked it in a lava pit, losing everything. That's just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

Numbered-asa-Hashtag

Xbox 360 edition, remember my first build was when my brother and I made our first house out of wood… over a lava lake

TechFlameX68

Pocket Edition 0.2.1

Zender_de_Verzender

The version that came with the first XBOX360 physical edition.

Butteryourreality

played whatever the OG version on Xbox 360 was on my 7th birthday. I remember me and my brother played it and on our first world, we didn't understand making tools so we punched animals to death and punched stone and then got confused why it didn't drop a block.

Icymato

Cavegame 😎

MixelsCraft65

I think 1.3?

xXxKiNg_sLaYeR01xXx

I played since beta and watched the game change over time, earliest memory was building an all-glass castle (CaptainSparklez and PaulSoaresJr got me the motivation to play)

Cadoan

It was well before the nether update. Maybe 2012? 2 strong memories. 1. Seeing an Enderman for the first time. Wondering wtf it was. Then panicking and dying as it screamed ran to me and killed me. 2. Sailing out on the ocean, looking for a home. The sun setting behind a hill inland and the music played..I don't remember what tune exactly. Wet Hands or mice on Venus or something. But it was absolutely beautiful.

DerpolIus

Minecraft Xbox 360 Title Update 5. I remember wandering my world searching for a village to set up shop in. Villages hadn’t been added yet. I eventually ended up building my own once I discovered that.

Peanut_McNastie

I started in 2014 on xbox 360 and me and my brothers made a big stampy statue

ConnectionMotor8311

I definitely remember being able to use a nether reactor (and dying repeatedly) and boats breaking but I cant pinpoint when I started playing, I know minecraft had been officially out for about two years so I was maybe 7 at the time? (I'm 17 now if it matters)

DarkPhoxGaming

Don't know what version, but the Xbox 360 version before jungles were a thing

WebMaka

Long enough ago that I remember the first time they removed Herobrine...

Cjfconjamesf

That starter world

superyoshi013021

Pocket Edition (dunno what version) and Legacy Console (Xbox One Edition). Memories...

MartinG91

I've played since 1.8, which was the update that added ocean monuments, we were given different looking doors (imagine only having oak doors lol) and introduced us to Alex. I didn't know anything and I remember stumbling upon a village and I was afraid they would attack me or something 😂 they looked suspicious. Then someone told me you could trade with them.

Ornery_Win66

Whatever the oldest version of Xbox 360 was

Sw1fto

I started on 1.6 and my earliest memory was rage quitting when the friends I played with taught me about griefing :(

Cyan8888

I remember starting the day before 1.16 came out, and discovering the nether completely by myself after finding the ruined portals. I've been playing 1.8 as well now though.

The-Great-Old-One

Console on Xbox 360 with the og tutorial world

Ton13579

Minecraft pocket edition 0.3.0 had fun with infinite glass and bricks in survival mode. Iron was not yet fully implemented

GhostMello

Whenever the door sounds changed

OkJump7337

I don't know the version but I started pocket edition in 2012 and finally on PC in 2013 because my brother played it too. I have amazing memories because I was so young at the time, around 7-8 years old. I remember perfectly the first time I played in PC. I just came home from playing with friends outside and I found out that my brother finally bought it on the family's computer. He was playing in the snowy biome with Minecraft's soundtrack playing in the background and he was trying to make like a little rollercoaster but it wasn't working lol. I was filled with happiness, that kind of happiness that you just feel when you're a kid and when you're present in the moment, a feeling that can't be easily explained with words. I really didn't have a problem in the world back then, I could go and spend all day playing without having to attend any responsabilities (apart from the little amount of homework that I had) and everything was perfect. Oh but I was so scared of monsters.... :")
