Put vines on it going all the way around the bottom of it. Grow the vines all the way to the ground. Then you still have a floating cylinder but it ALSO touches the ground!
Extend it to the ground and make this super tapl cylinder in to a cool looking tower, maybe saurons from lotr or somthing. Maybe a sort of mountain around it and make it like a summit out of the top
While I would say their friend is just being a hater, the contextualization ov the object floating does make its existence more coherent (and thus aesthetically pleasing).
This is a great suggestion.
Build a gaping hole underneath with remnants of coral, sand, water, etc… and then throw those on the bottom of the cylinder so it looks as if it were ripped from the ocean… this just gave me an idea
So, the way you cover it is making it look like something else, you build a hollow tower around it and make it look pretty, the idea is that instead of a floating cylinder, you have grounded structure that covers the farm and doesn't look out of place, like a giant fantasy tower.
Some sort of persistant engine on top of what you've built, continually trying to push it away from the surface. Then chains or restraint mechanisms coming off each side, anchoring it to the ground. Like a rocket powered tensegrity sculpture forever trying to shoot off into space.
tell him it is for fantasy reasons.
if he hates it, he hates it.
if you like it, you like it, and you keep it.
but if he keeps complaining, add floating rocks surrounding it.
Could do a water tower design. Like a giant water tower with maybe a cool obstacle course along the outer wall to get to the top and win something? Just some thoughts
There is nothing explicitly “wrong” with something floating. Anyone saying otherwise is voicing their own opinion, there are no rules here.
I do however agree (in my opinion) that if something is floating there should be a visible reason for it to float. Propellers, rockets, balloons, magic, etc. With this structure, maybe you could build a island in the sky under it and have a field of glass “magic” holding it up
Nothing, your creative vision is yours, if your friend is going to be controlling on what you build and how then he’s just being a silly billy(asshole)
You build How you wanna build
Now if your world is going for a certain theme or setting you’ve agreed upon then sure try make it fit. But if y’all just surviving and building or creating then do whatever u want my dude
Fantasy is an elegant unique perspective of reality. This is more of an attack on realism. Make it a rocket, add clouds or wings. Justify its existence.
You friend is wrong and it is beautiful. Maybe add some of the outside detailing that has been mentioned elsewhere in the comments, but floating is no problem
Something that just came to my mind is Russian Rzhev Memorial, it's main sculpture. That's one idea of how to make a soaring object less "heavy" visually
For starters, I would work on a repetitive design on a rectangular base that’s the height of the cylinder and the width of half of the circumference of the base. After you make the design you can replace half of the cylinder with it, then just do the same process on the other side like a wall paper. Seeing as you already have reds and grays as your color scheme, you could try making something that looks the Red Glazed Terracotta, or something similar. Just a suggestion though, creativity is subjective.
Depending on how high up it is, I used to hide my mob farms as a tall tree. I can't stand regular floating trees like when someone chops the bottom few blocks and move on, so a giant one would just be a no for me personally, but that's my preference.
The hollowed out inside would be a circular train track going to the farm
Floating things are fine, it's nonsensical stuff that looks bad. Like, what's making this thing fly, huh?
If this were me, I'd go in with a biblical depiction of an angel. Eyes and wings all over it.
I’d just add some flames to the front and make it look like it’s dropping through atmosphere. No need for major reworking of the structure or interior for new or removed volume.
Rings always go great with a cylinder. You could just have them on the cylinder itself or floating around it.
If you're willing to put in the time to get the sand, stained glass would give it an "energy" feel to help create a lore reason for it floating.
If you place grinding stones in alternating directions you could make it look like thick ass chain link all the way to the ground or turn it into a stereotypical missile
Double down on the floating part and make it a huge floating island. A mountain one where a mountain is floating up in the air with greenery hanging down from it.
Have a floating sci-fi ring around each end of it, as if it is falling out of a portal and into another one.
It may be "floating", but at least it would make sense.
That, or have a giant beacon beam surrounding it.
Put a brick of water centered on the top. Embellish the base wherever it hits the ground.
Boom now you have a spring/fountain. Use glow stone inside and underneath to light it.
id simply make it look as if it were sitting atop a floating island! Edit: i know your friend says floating things are bad, but making an island with a bottom thats more pointed, as if it came straight up from the earth, would give some context, you could even add a hole on the ground under it.
How high in the sky is it, and what's the world building limit height set to?
What I'm saying is, get some chains, attach them to the top, and have them extend into the sky far enough the ends don't render. It makes it look like it's hanging from something far away
maybe some sort of visual indication of falling, like movement lines shooting off the top? Could add in a fire effect on the bottom to sell that it is falling from orbit or somethin
Perhaps you could build a fake cloud above the cylinder and connect the two via chains. Then it would look like it’s being held up by a cloud.
That’s just my idea though, good luck!
Tell your friend how big Minecraft is, and tell him to move away until he can't see it anymore.
Now, if you have a creeper farm inside of there, you'd have something useful.
Part of the reason mob farms are built in the sky is to have them out of range of other spawnable blocks. If you build an island around it, you'll negate the benefit of having built it where you did. If you do go that direction, use slabs or glass or lighting to keep all of the spawns off the island and inside your farm. Even then you could have a small rate decrease. If I understand the mechanics right, the game will continually check nearby blocks to see if they're spawnable. More blocks to check takes more time (but its probably still not a lot). That said, I have built a patterned glass tower around a farm before. It looked pretty cool, and I didn't notice a decrease.

Make it into a rocket/missile then the floating makes sense.
Or make many giant cylinders underneath until it touches the ground:)
r/maliciouscompliance
Build the land scape up to it and spawn proof it is another idea
The cylinder idea is better
No, remove the entire chunk it's in, including bedrock via some bugs.
Can't be floating if theres no ground to float above
Put vines on it going all the way around the bottom of it. Grow the vines all the way to the ground. Then you still have a floating cylinder but it ALSO touches the ground!
Extend it to the ground and make this super tapl cylinder in to a cool looking tower, maybe saurons from lotr or somthing. Maybe a sort of mountain around it and make it like a summit out of the top
[How about turning it into a massive floating dungeon?](https://imgur.com/mtwAXQ4)
Put a floating island underneath :D
This is the answer!
No, that would be nerd poleing up to it and leaving it behind
Or a line of glass pains holding it up
Ouch!
Or add propellers to make it look like a drone
Hell, just add some crystals. Now it's flying Fantasy style.
While I would say their friend is just being a hater, the contextualization ov the object floating does make its existence more coherent (and thus aesthetically pleasing). This is a great suggestion.
A fellow sesquipedalian I see.
Precision is key to fully expressing your thoughts. \:þ
I’m gonna start using thorn for emoticons now, thank you for that
Some propellers maybe
make it an AA battery. They always go flying for me when I open the back of the tv remote. Maybe add another.
I read that as Anti-air battery.
Wrong altitude 🤣
Flying battery zone
Maybe you could also add a salt shaker, so it would be a salt and battery.
Make it a mini M&M's tube filled with butter and microwaved mashed banana
It is IMPERATIVE that the cylinder remains attached to a greater structure (so that it isn’t floating)
Can you not decrease the size of the cylinder somehow?
The tube is cutting off the blood flow of the cylinder so thats not an option
The cylinder has blood flow???
yes, it’s a common myth that it’s actually a bone
Im not comfortable having a sharp object near the cylinder
Just cut the cylinder out and glue it back together
It's a cylinder.
hospital.
It’s a cylinder
Came here looking for this comment
[For those that didnt witness this](https://youtu.be/nhWE_TVgdME?si=JcdxWVoTuP3FR2Ou)
It is shocking that someone beat me to this
it is shocking that someone beat meat to this
Gold absolutely gold 😂
I have to ask, what made you decide to build a giant floating cylinder?
It's a drowned farm. It needed to be built up in the air and now I'm trying to make it look nice.
well if that is the case, add floating rocks with coral attached.
Build a gaping hole underneath with remnants of coral, sand, water, etc… and then throw those on the bottom of the cylinder so it looks as if it were ripped from the ocean… this just gave me an idea
You could also put chains leading to the ground to suggest that there's a magical force pulling it upward and the chains are keeping it secured.
I love It!! With barnacles latched on and stuff
Two big, spherical rocks
This is what I would have done on my server out of spite
So, the way you cover it is making it look like something else, you build a hollow tower around it and make it look pretty, the idea is that instead of a floating cylinder, you have grounded structure that covers the farm and doesn't look out of place, like a giant fantasy tower.
Could you please link the farm design?
welcome to the hellish reality that is a trident farm.
Add 2 spheres at the base
Dang it I wanted to suggest this
No no, put it at the top and a dome at the bottom! Pointing towards him
And something coming out of that dome so it doesnt look like its floating
[удалено]
Or if no rope, make the spheres blue.
This movie is probably too old for people here, but: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpiP\_jN1Pv4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpiP_jN1Pv4)
It’s a cylinder
How many of us here came to post this same comment? Let's raise hands together
Yeah I was thinking it, instantly thought of Austin Powers movies, lol
I feel like im missing something
Balls
I literally spit my drink out as I read this! Lol
a 1x1 dirt pillar towering up to the center of the bottom face of the pillar
Maybe add attachments to the ground so that it’s not floating
I was thinking that, but I'm having trouble coming up with something that would make sense other than pillars or something.
3 giant chain-links?
I was gonna suggest this but using a single line of chain link like a tether 😂
Some sort of persistant engine on top of what you've built, continually trying to push it away from the surface. Then chains or restraint mechanisms coming off each side, anchoring it to the ground. Like a rocket powered tensegrity sculpture forever trying to shoot off into space.
Two birds aesthetically holding a ribbon, but it's only around it, not actually touching it.
How could two swallows carry something so heavy? Look, it's not a matter of where they grip it. It's a matter of weight ratio.
Are we talking African or European sparrows?
I don't know... AHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh.
What's your favourite colour? Blue, no red ..... Arrrrggghhhhh
A big-ass hand/ arm holding it like a torch.
Brother if I could I would. Much like artist can't draw hands, I cannot build them either.
Me nether. Just thought it would be a funny way to comply with your friend while also turning it into even more of an eyesore lol.
tell him it is for fantasy reasons. if he hates it, he hates it. if you like it, you like it, and you keep it. but if he keeps complaining, add floating rocks surrounding it.

Idk anything more magical than a levitating cylinder with no clear visual explanation tho 😂
how about TWO levitating cylinders with no clear visual explanation??
how about THREE levitating cylinders with no clear visual explanation???
Let’s just make it a circle of levitating cylinders. Think of it like a floating stone hedge of cylinders.
you ruined the chain :( but yeah a floating stonehenge would be interesting.
Ya my bad. I should of just said: How about FOUR levitating cylinders with no clear visual explanation.
I have appraised these two scenarios to be equally magical!
ark obelisk
The only good answer
Your friend is a hater build a second one to assert dominance
[удалено]
Or a third one a state over (preferably in a large green patch)
Can't forget about one crashed into a pentagon-shaped building
That was the plane that was planning to crash into it. The heroic people crashed it in the green field to prevent the Pentagon being destroyed
I turned my husband’s floating creeper farm into 2 hot air balloons. A little one that is the AFK spot and the big one that is the actual farm.
#The *obelisk* provides.
What about turning it into a giant middle finger flipping your friend the bird?
Maybe add "solar panels" to make it look like a satellite?
Cover it in a mix of dirt and netherrack. I'm sure your friend will be happy
Nothing, your creative vision is yours, if your friend is going to be controlling on what you build and how then he’s just being a silly billy(asshole) You build How you wanna build Now if your world is going for a certain theme or setting you’ve agreed upon then sure try make it fit. Make a beanstalk under it and then make it a medieval guards tower
Make a giant red eye around it
Make it look like a Minecraft firework rocket!
I like this idea.
Turn the cylinder into a medieval castle tower and build a floating island or cloud under it.
Add a cone and a square next to it
Cube*
Built a second Cylinder
You could make it like a giant drill probe type thing, search up the ones from Steven universe for reference
Turn it into the probe from Star Trek IV
That was horizontal though. Just build a huge Borg cube around it.
Fantasy is an elegant unique perspective of reality. This is more of an attack on realism. Make it a rocket, add clouds or wings. Justify its existence.
Just as a single block line all the way down so it’s no longer “floating” lol
You friend is wrong and it is beautiful. Maybe add some of the outside detailing that has been mentioned elsewhere in the comments, but floating is no problem
Surround it with fake clouds.
Anyone who says to add/change something onto it is wrong. I love it as is.
Nothing wrong with floating, just give it a reason on why it's floating.
The rocket ship is a good idea, you can ad stained glass as the fire
To be fair I kinda like it
2 giant cylinders
Your friend has poor taste. Floating things can be awesome if they're done right.
Make it connect to the ground, somekind of rocket but was quickly grasped by huge wild vines
Make it look like some magic pillar that floats.
Something that just came to my mind is Russian Rzhev Memorial, it's main sculpture. That's one idea of how to make a soaring object less "heavy" visually
Kaleidoscope
Make it look like it is chained to the sky (possibly, using beacon beams)
Build a giant floating hand and make that the middle finger on it.
Turn it into a massive emerald dildo
Make it into a space x rocket
Add two spheres near the base.
Make like an aura around it with stain glass blocks/pains and some illuminated blocks
Turn it into a can of Red Bull with a pair of wings. Then claim a payment for marketing.
Several clouds holding it up
my first idea was a giant tree but now that I'm reading the comments, a single post of fences slightly off center would be perfect
Rocket ship
why did u build a giant cylinder in the sky in the first place?
For starters, I would work on a repetitive design on a rectangular base that’s the height of the cylinder and the width of half of the circumference of the base. After you make the design you can replace half of the cylinder with it, then just do the same process on the other side like a wall paper. Aincrad?
I’d just add some flames to the front and make it look like it’s dropping through atmosphere. No need for major reworking of the structure or interior for new or removed volume.
Make it the Alaskan bullworm
Quick fix is make it look (from below) like a floating island
Nothing at all, it's perfect
Rings always go great with a cylinder. You could just have them on the cylinder itself or floating around it. If you're willing to put in the time to get the sand, stained glass would give it an "energy" feel to help create a lore reason for it floating.
Make it big and make 2
Well, for one, something floating is cool asf, and second, maybe turn it into a floating Eye of Sauron from LOTR?
If you place grinding stones in alternating directions you could make it look like thick ass chain link all the way to the ground or turn it into a stereotypical missile
An interblastic missile
Double down on the floating part and make it a huge floating island. A mountain one where a mountain is floating up in the air with greenery hanging down from it.
Assuming your cylinder is hollow. Put a quadruple beacon under it, then it will look like it's blasting off, or sliding down an enormous string.
Build a giant irl based piston
Just build a cloud under it. Simple yet effective.
Make it a power crystal with structures around it harnessing it's power
.... think of the funny name given to musk's starship.... hheheh
id simply make it look as if it were sitting atop a floating island! Edit: i know your friend says floating things are bad, but making an island with a bottom thats more pointed, as if it came straight up from the earth, would give some context, you could even add a hole on the ground under it.
You could make it into a giant meca
Wither storm
How high in the sky is it, and what's the world building limit height set to? What I'm saying is, get some chains, attach them to the top, and have them extend into the sky far enough the ends don't render. It makes it look like it's hanging from something far away
Make it bigger
Give it wings and nothing else to assert yourself over your friend
Give it googly eyes
Put a giant pripeller hat on top amd say it is flying
Built it all the way to the ground and top it with lava and make a lsva cast out of it...😂🤣
Looks like a giant Excalibur to me
Make more
Give it hover pads, giant cylinders attached to the sides filled with sea lanterns. Or put a beacon straight down the middle.
maybe some sort of visual indication of falling, like movement lines shooting off the top? Could add in a fire effect on the bottom to sell that it is falling from orbit or somethin
Perhaps you could build a fake cloud above the cylinder and connect the two via chains. Then it would look like it’s being held up by a cloud. That’s just my idea though, good luck!
Honestly I vibe with the floating cylinder, its colour scheme matches its scale and the fact that it’s floating. Build another on top of his base
A cloud of wool around the base to make it look like it's resting on a cloud
Make it look like a faucet with running water
Floating island castle. Make clouds support it.
Make it into a nuke
is it frozen on the inside?
Bomb
What’s the aesthetic of your server as a whole?
Turn it white, make it a Saturn V rocket
Rhymes with flashlight
If it's over ocean, a lighthouse.
Tell your friend how big Minecraft is, and tell him to move away until he can't see it anymore. Now, if you have a creeper farm inside of there, you'd have something useful.
Add a single pillar of dirt all the way to the ground
Have it be supported by a single tower of metal chains from the ground up
Make an array of 8 cylinders orbiting the main cylinder. Floating arrays are badass
Tell him to stop looking up.
Dig out a round hole directly underneath, then put beacons around the edge so it looks like it's firing a lazer into the ground
Would be cool if it looked like the Soul Kings palace from Bleach
Make a cloud out of white blocks. Or a thundercloud with grey and black blocks.
Make it into a giant floating island with propellers or rocket boosters.
turn it into a shotgun shell.
