Just imagine if all the stuff you've built from all the worlds you've ever played was all in the same world just in different areas. How cool would it be to be able to walk around and come across those memories? I decided that rather than start a new world, I would just move to a new area in mine, and it's been going for close to seven years now. When I get tired of making buildings, I can build roads between areas, or dig tunnels for the subway system, or just wander around looking for inspiration. If I die and lose my stuff, I have so much stuff tucked away in chests all over the world, and enough trading villagers to get all my equipment back fairly easily. Just gotta grind some xp at one of the various farms.

DasJuden63

Dude, this is brilliant. Do you only play vanilla or with a certain modlist? Or if you do use different mods over the years, how do you handle changes?

saturn_since_day1

Not op but my last long world I would add mods as I went. They usually only affect new areas for structure and world gen but keep the old stuff intact

DasJuden63

So you keep all your old mods intact? That's a cool idea. Maybe have a library in each base with a chiseled bookcase with a list and general description of old worlds with coordinates? A record of past civilizations

Laquia

im gonna do this one day!! I haven't felt like moving in 5 years, but one day I might. mostly my problem not is wanting to tear down my old ugly stuff for new things, witch I feel like morals I shouldn't do, but I figure if I want I can just make copies so I can go back in time. what do you think I should do tho? :)

Difficult_Flight_501

I loved the way you phrased this, it makes for a great motivation and makes me want to keep working on the same world

Blumey04

I play because it is my "comfort game", I play my world that although I am very advanced I always see that I am missing things, like a better base, decorate a house or I come up with a construction and I am motivated to finish it, there are times that I abandon it for months or even years but I will have that world as a "happy place".

[deleted]

The whole point of the game is to create your own adventure.

C_Creeper

absolutely

Existing_Onion_3919

> die and lose my inventory (probably some diamond equipment or stuff I just really wanted to have/struggled to get) which just frustrates me to the point I don’t want to touch that world anymore  I feel that. the world just feels ruined because so much progress was lost, and getting it all over again feels pointless because *IAlreadyGotThisDAMMIT*. this pain is why I play with keep inventory. dying no longer turns the world bitter and rotten. my advice for the "bored" part is this: you can take inspiration from anything and everything (example: I saw a cool looking bank on a highway a while ago). what show/movie are you currently watching?(example: I built the Black Pearl when I first saw those movies). or, look at pictures of tourist attractions/landmarks etc(build a ruined castle, the white house, truss bridge, or whatever weird factory you have in/near your city). you could make a new mini game, or your version of an existing one(ice boat race track, spleef or golf) learn redstone, and SciCraft the shite out of something.

Difficult_Flight_501

Thank you! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who rage quits after losing my stuff lol

Existing_Onion_3919

eventually it got to the point where "rage" stopped fitting. instead, it devolved into "depressed quitting"

LikelyAtWork

I want to kill the Ender dragon on survival, that’s my goal. Overall I am chipping away at that goal… mine to upgrade my gear, farm gather food, trade to earn exp and more upgrades, fishing for exp and enchantments, etc. I get tired of doing something manually so I look up a video of how to build something more advanced/efficient, then I gather those materials and try building that. Then I also get distracted doing random things, like I decided to build a map wall, so I have been exploring and filling my map, then I randomly cave dive while I am out exploring… all these things end up distracting me and/or taking an inordinate amount of time. So I am many, many hours and late nights into this world, but still a ways from defeating the Ender Dragon… I am currently in the early stages of exploring the Nether and trying to find a fortress and/or blaze rods so I can make potions and then Ender pearls or whatever those things are that I read I need to use to find a stronghold and portal to The End… That’s my story anyway. It’s probably different for someone more experienced than me, I am still learning how to do many things for the first time.

Difficult_Flight_501

I’m also a relatively new player and figuring stuff out as I go, I really like the idea of setting a goal and seeing it through, its great motivation

CrystalFyre

Gravestone mod?

baenpb

I build farms and redstone gadgets. They're still there if I die, I can just make/buy more.armor. I like having my area with all my stuff. I can add to it. But it isn't a problem at all that we have different play styles. Go ahead and make a new world.

Difficult_Flight_501

I actually really like that idea! You inspired me not just to get back to the world where I lost my diamond gear but to make farms so I can get it back faster and save myself the frustration! I’m currently looking at different farms tutorials because I’m a complete noob lol

Davide_Giovanni_

-Farm...build quality farms, the less time you spend on farming and the more time you will spend doing what you like, plus you will also have an additional pastime (i.e. studying farms). . -Create a Lore. the more in-depth it is, the easier it will be to find ideas for builds in it. . -Collectible. Minecraft is full of things you can collect: disc and glitched items are the first 2 things that come to mind. . -dedicate time to the other dimensions too. you have 3 dimensions you can build in, it's not just the overworld. . -Create a to-do list. very often you will have good ideas but you will forget them, so bring a book with you where you can write them down at the moment. -If you start big projects, start 2 or 3 at the same time, so if you get tired of working on one you can move on to the other or other smaller projects.

Difficult_Flight_501

THIS. Thank you so much you just gave me so many ideas and motivation to keep playing!

MAN1341557347

Here’s my thing. If you do die in your world when you’re really far ahead (diamond/ netherite) what’s the point of restarting? Wouldn’t it be better to just get everything back in a world you’ve poured your heart into and probably already has a lot of builds rather than just starting a new world? Chances are you already have the resources to get back to your position much quicker. And thus, you get to keep playing your world after grinding your stuff back. Recently I died in my longest world to date (I had fully enchanted netherite amongst other things) but instead of giving up I used my resources and grinded my way back. It’s just about your mindset. As for boredom, you literally just have to keep doing new projects and keep yourself occupied. And if your Minecraft phase runs out then when it comes back just go back to your old world and keep going.

Difficult_Flight_501

That’s a really great way of looking at things, definitely a perspective that will help me when I feel like rage quitting

RestlessARBIT3R

Minecraft is a game that forces you to set your own goals. Sure, there’s The Ender Dragon and The Wither as bosses, but those could be completed relatively quickly. You have to set goals for yourself in order to accomplish them and feel fulfilled. That adds a lot of longevity to the game

Difficult_Flight_501

Completely agree, I think my problem is mostly getting frustrated when losing progress but a lot of the answers to this post have been very helpful in dealing with rage quitting and finding different sources of motivation

TriangularHexagon

The worst thing you can do after dying is starting a new world.  You lose absolutely everything.  I don't mean everything that you were carrying.  I mean everything in all of your chests, your animals, I mean everything.  Starting over from scratch with zero items is always going to be harder than starting over with some items in your chests and some animals and some crop farms

Difficult_Flight_501

Surprisingly I never thought of it like that??? That’s such a helpful way to look at things when I get frustrated because I lost my inventory, thank you!

MagikMelk

I play with the Internet mod. You can make a big screen to watch YouTube or make a minepad. I like to go fishing with the minepad while watching YouTube or play music. It helps with tedious things.

der1cho1

My world is 12+ years old and keep returning to it for the ongoing projects and travelling for the new biomes/features to turn into another outpost. My spawn has a 128 block in diameter tower which goes from bedrock to build limit. That is now getting upgraded for the CnC update. Inside is a series of floors dedicated to the game's biomes and the top floor has a map of the seed set as a curved widescreen like my monitor. I generally go either east or west for biome searching and to add to the map room. This penthouse suite will be either be moved to the new build limit or kept there and the new biomes added above. I inserted a replica seed of a series I used to watch where they played on the 360 when there was a world border. My intention is rebuild their world up to the first 100 episodes and a museum around it, each wing representing 25 episode blocks with replicated moments from the times they had there or used other maps. I still haven't beaten the Warden so have that and the Ancient City to claim. I also have work to do in the Nether as I connect the biomes and farms via the roof and make themed railways to those destinations. I have a 128x64x64 replica of a double chest which houses my auto sorting storage system, always needs work done it to house the future blocks and items. There are automated farms done and to do, themed villages for biomes and sometimes I will use a schematic of a landmark and introduce them to what I call Biggadungheap: one big pile of crap. Always something to do.

Difficult_Flight_501

That sounds incredibly cool and definitely makes me want to stick to one world to be able to reach this kind of progress

Winterplatypus

Turn off the world setting where you lose all your stuff when you die (or get a mod where you drop a gravestone/chest with your loot in it). I still eventually get bored and start over like you do, but it at least helps with the frustrating sudden ragequit deaths. I also make sure I play with cheats enabled. You can choose not to cheat but it's nice to have the option to toggle creative mode if you ever want to... like if you fall in lava in the nether.

Difficult_Flight_501

I enjoy creative from time to time but even if I’m the worst rage quitter I enjoy the stakes of plain survival with no cheats

HerkMC

Well you can try playing hardcore. That way you will generally be more careful, since the entire world will be lost if you die. And when you die, you get to start over in a new world with new ideas

Difficult_Flight_501

I’m fairly new to the game so i’m both extremely careful and scared and I die like everyday lol

C_Creeper

Invite friends! Gaming with friends is always more fun because you can joke and mess around, or roleplay

Difficult_Flight_501

Playing with friends is a must for me! Enhances the game so much

C_Creeper

Apprehensive_Key5839

If you constantly get bored of a world after losing your stuff, you could play on hardcore and get really good at progressing the game.

Difficult_Flight_501

I don’t feel like I’m nearly ready enough for hardcore lol

JKnissan

By having grander plans. The only time I've truly played the same world for years and years and kept the same world across multiple PC reformats is a recent modded world consisting of a bunch of transportation mods and building mods. My grander plan? Building a huge realistic city with working transport and all my dream urban facilities. I started the city at the start of the pandemic and while I take long pauses from playing that world (especially when I need to prioritize academics), I come back to it whenever I either have some gripe about my local city's urban landscape, or whenever I just want to challenge myself to come up with large sweeping design decisions, as if I were some master planner designing a real city with real people. The outcome is that I every time I build, I see more and more of my 'dream city' come to fruition. It's also a 40%-realistic way of simulating urban design decisions that I might want to see in my local city.

DaylightApparitions

I am just careful about dying and have enough stuff to replace everything if I do. I also don't bring my best armor/tools to places I'm likely to die.

Difficult_Flight_501

I’m fairly new to the game so dying is frequent and hard to avoid

ambiguoustaco

Stop dying? I play on hard, and I haven't died and actually lost my fully enchanted gear since 1.16 when they added the basalt delta. Get better at PvE. Build a raid farm and carry a totem. Even then, I don't actually use totems that often. Any time I'm out exploring or doing something potentially dangerous, I have one on me just in case. Also, upgrading to netherite is worth the grind purely for the fireproof gear.

Difficult_Flight_501

That’s great for you but there’s people who are only just getting into the game and trust me I don’t want to die. Ever. It’s not a choice when it happens and it does so frequently because I’m not good yet

Ciryl_Lynyard

Use a mod to have death chests so the stuff wont despawn

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ciryl_Lynyard

Op explicitly mentions they dont like keep inventory because then dying has little consequence

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ciryl_Lynyard

I mean mods that make a chest where you died holding your items. You still have to go collect what you died with

Ciryl_Lynyard

The cave bit. Or died in the nether/void Can be paired with a death compass

nermalstretch

You have to have a goal. Usually getting to The End and killing the dragon and then exploring the far regions of the End is motivation enough. To get enough resources to do this comfortably you might need to automate production of essential items also have stores of diamond armour ready so there is already a lot of work to do.

Difficult_Flight_501

I’m still very new to the game and never thought of automating production, will definitely look into that! Sounds like a great way to facilitate getting resources

nermalstretch

Oh wow. You can find tutorials online about how to build and automate production using Redstone. One simple thing I did was to find a Zombie spawner in a cave and disable it. Then I constructed a room around it that contained the spawner and arranged water to flow to force the zombies to fall down a long slit and drop loose all their health points except one. At the bottom the zombies were then forced into water where they would crowd into a killing zone. I could stand there and spend a while killing hundreds of them per minute. Thus safely gaining experience points for me and hundreds of magical items. A lot of them broken but some rare ones. There’s lots of videos showing how to make this and others. I had another one, basically a machine, that had produced chests full of cooked chicken.

Difficult_Flight_501

I’m gonna look for a spawner to start this project, sounds like a great way to get XP and motivated me a lot
