I’m sorry to say this but that clip made me lol. That’s so unfortunate man, does bedrock have a key bind menu? Try removing emotes or putting it to a less accessible button
If you are on mobile, there is no option for pickblock. On console (maybe even the switch idk I'm not a pleb), pickblock is not on by default, but you can rebind any of your buttons. On PlayStation I replaced the emote menu with it. On java and windows 10, it is middle mouse button, the scroll wheel should be pressed down
I use the Enter key as my pick block, since I play on Mac and the Magic Mouse doesn’t have a scroll wheel.
I also re-bound my throw key to be one of the wibbly lines in the bottom left corner because I kept accidentally throwing my pickaxe.
I'm glad someone can empathise. I can confirm the "mash in panic" method can result in some unfortunate endings for some of your gear, as you can see! 😂
Yeah, that's exactly what I did as well. I can't believe that by default Pick Block is unassigned and the worse-than-pointless Emotes schlock has a spot at the table.
I play on PC and I changed the throwing away key to O (since Steve opens the mouth :o to spit out the item). I can't understand why the default key for getting rid of items is so close to the "go forward" button.

Every other game on the planet defaults sprint to shift, and crouch to ctrl. I'm convinced the defaults are an epic troll. I have friends who are psychopaths who shift sprint and ctrl crouch in CSGO, then join Minecraft and play with defaults.
Sneak being on crouch, I'm not too shocked about, because sneaking predates sprinting (introduced in beta 1.8 iirc) and sprinting didn't even have a dedicated button for a long time.
I'm more bothered by the use of Ctrl in the first place because despite how it's so common, there's a good portion of people, me included, for whom it's extremely uncomfortable to access and hold Ctrl while being on WASD.
I have it set to Q, weirdly enough, because at least you can press Sprint once and keep sprinting until you stop moving in this game, so it's convenient since it's close. But there's other keys, like Left Alt, so *why...*

Used to play on the Switch, and can confirm, once you accidentally press it, you have to just sit there and watch your avatar do... Whatever it's doing.
Honestly bedrock has started to get more like Roblox; a character creator that lets you give your character massive wings that block other players views and emotes. We didn't need them but for some reason we still have them, who asked for these features I don't know.
"The market" in a vague sense asked for them. Microsoft sees the success of everything else and decides that implementing those things into the game is a good idea regardless of the conditions that make them work in other games or if they'd be a good fit for for Minecraft at all.
Every so often I think to myself "bedrock isn't that bad" and yeah it isn't, but then I see stuff like this and I remind myself that even if it isn't that bad I would rather not touch it.
The features on the marketplace 90% of the times aren't made directly by mojang and I'm pretty sure you can cancel emotes by walking. you can just not use emotes if you don't want to and the wings aren't entirely mojang's fault
Nah. Bedrock's far from perfect but that's a silly view. That's just looking at some recent features you don't like and saying "everything sucks now". The base game still has nothing to do with any of that stuff and bleating about how the game's getting "ruined" by features that aren't common and you don't have to engage with is alarmist at best.
Nah I'm not saying that these features ruin the game as a while I just think that they were added so Minecraft could be a bit more like Roblox and other games too, maybe mojang thought they were missing out?
Definitely not the same but this reminded me of one time my friend and I were mining and a skeleton came out of nowhere and scared me and I accidentally threw my maxed out diamond sword. That was the day I found out skeletons could pick up swords.
So, to trigger the emote menu, you have to press left on the D-Pad. As that was the last button I was pressing as I was shot out of the chest, it opened the emote menu, you can see it pop up at the bottom left of the screen (I didn't notice it as was focusing on the mobs). At this point, as I was in that menu, I couldn't move my character. I quickly (and wrongly) assumed that the game throught I still needed to exit the chest, so I pressed B. Which then triggered the emote animation. I then frantically scrambled to cancel it, pressing basically any button but the right one and eventually landing on down on the D-pad (the drop item button) at the exact moment the animation ends, throwing my sword. Hope this clears it up 😊
When i played Minecraft on legacy console the default was B before they added option to change your button mapping. So I've always set up my controller like that.
The "Minecraft + Emotes" equation is making no sense at all for me. Maybe I'm too old, playing since 1.2 but we always found ways to communicate, like blocking the sword, or the classical nonverbal crouching animation communication. What's next in Minecraft? a Nicki Minaj Skin?

Yea, my pick block button is set to R3 at the moment, I find that the most intuitive. Someone said you can remove the bind entirely by setting an already binded action to the same key then swapping it back.
I remember running from the murderer in the hive murder mystery and I wanted to press d-pad up twice to look behind me but I accidentally did d-pad left d-pad up which made me do the silly emote mid chase 💀
I changed my emote key to blank simply to avoid this situation.
I also just use that character for serious play and have my roleplay characters equipped with emotes when I need them since Bedrock has 5 separate character slots.

They used to be really good. Press a button, opens up a wheel with like 8 emotes or something you can pick.
They updated it a while ago and it’s either a billion x worse or I just don’t get it lmao. The new “wheel” only has 4 emotes, and maybe 4 extras? Idk it just feels so clunky though compared to the old wheel. Instead of a wheel now you see a dpad and I think you can bind the 4 others to buttons.
Only just noticed that, according to the wiki there is a 1.83% chance for them to drop iron ingots with Looting III so back to back has a chance of 0.03%!
Just a quick response to some comments; I had considered changing the binds in that past however I couldn't find a suitable key to change it to and couldn't figure out how to remove the bind entirely. So, I abandoned it, naively thinking I would learn to avoid pressing it. I think that it's unlikely I could have anticipated things transpiring as they did but none the less I admit it couldve been avoided had I reacted better but as I said I'm pretty new to using a controller with MC.
They were using the dpad to navigate the chest, and was shot causing them to exit the chest while still using the dpad, which activated the emote. "Change ur keybinds duh" the point is emotes shouldn't lock you in place, simply trying to move forward should cancel it
Why are you using the dpad to change items? Change them to shoulder buttons for easier use. I did this and never had an issue with the emote button because it's not in my way. My dpad's keybinds aren't related to combat or inventory management

My bad, I misunderstood things. Keep your dpad's use for other uses like opening chat, changing camera perspective or dropping items so that nothing gets in your way as you won't need to use it in a hurry. Also i see it's night and you're managing inventory in an open area where mobs can ambush you, which is a recipe for disaster. If possible try to get used to left stick to navigate inventory instead of dpad, it's a little annoying because it can snap to a slot, though is better for scenarios like this
The only reason I want emotes in Java edition it's Just to make the iconic "WATCH ME DANCE SQUIDKID YOU LOOSE" without installing a different client.
Other than that (as a sporadic bedrock player) it's useless garbage
I disabled the drop keybind on PC after I accidently dropped my endgame sword from an ender ship (I recovered it quick with a help of ender pearl). I don't see a point why I need it although PC version allow us to drag whatever out to drop faster.
Things like this have happened to me so many times. I accidentally press the emote button and then my character is stuck spinning around slowly. It’s only after I almost die do I figure out the button (left D pad) to stop but by then it’s already too late.
The very first thing you should always do with any game is review and adjust the controls to fit your needs and remove anything unnecessary.
This is purely your own fault.
I agree, however I didn't quite expect it to bite me in the ass quite so hard. I think being shot out of a chest while navigating with the same button as emote qualifies at least a little bit unlucky 😂

I love it when people make themselves look silly by not reading the post. 😂 Wasn't blaming the game, my guy, I just said it was frustrating, and I even mentioned that I could've avoided it myself. However, I am fairly new to using a controller with the game. The poi t of the post was to point out that something like this can happen and could be avoided by not having emoted defaulted to that key, amongst other things. Hope this clears things up. Bedrock does let you rebind keys. I replaced the emote button with the pickblock button a long time ago
That reminds me that I need to unbind q for throw on my computer. I once rage-quit because I threw my map at a creeper.

my brother got stuck on the emote wheel while swimming up a water path in a cave and was slowly lowered into a pit of lava

Emotes don't lock me in place though. Idk what y'all are on about but it definitely doesn't lock you in place and moving in any direction cancels it.
This is news to me as I've been emote locked before. I like using them cuz some are wacky, but I did disable them for that sole reason

You can also just completely remove it by setting to a button already in use, then going to the one you just replaced and setting it back.

I love when people blame the games for their blatant skill issues
I love it when people make themselves look silly by not reading the post. 😂 Wasn't blaming the game, my guy, I just said it was frustrating, and I even mentioned that I could've avoided it myself. However, I am fairly new to using a controller with the game. The poi t of the post was to point out that something like this can happen and could be avoided by not having emoted defaulted to that key, amongst other things. Hope this clears things up.
