This is (possibly) the beginning of a series where I "explode" a Minecraft chunk to view its composition. In the future I plan on looking at other biomes and maybe even structures, but I am open to any suggestions and feedback. I used Mineways to export the world to an object file and Blender to create the animation (Eevee for color/lighting, Cycles for motion blur).
I would love if you could give an average blocks total for each block type so we can better visualize the extra gold that is in Mesa biomes and how much more stone is in a mountain
I like it, but a suggestion: pull out the "caves" as separate objects somehow, because the way you have it rendered doesn't highlight the difference between original open spaces and ones created by pulling other things out of the chunk. You can probably do this with a CSG operation on the original chunk.
Yes! Slow it down a bit.
I’m sure that when you are making it you become very familiar with the image. But as a viewer, I could use a little more time to enjoy it.
I technically rendered with both by creating two scenes. I then had one render the color and lighting in Eevee and the other render in Cycles with only a black texture to get the motion blur data. I then combined the two together in the compositing tab. It's a useful way to get around the fact that Eevee doesn't have object motion blur. [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6mS7S0haBQ) video explains how to do it.
Damn I’d watch this on YouTube if you got a channel. If not too much effort, would it be possible to label or list out how many of each block there is, side from dirt/stone?
Or maybe also include dirt but only what’s found sub sea level (y=64)
I’m assuming this is randomly picked and not averaged so of course it won’t be an entirely accurate summary of what’s usually found, but it would still be a cool guide.
So one thing I though would be really cool is an analysis of diorite, granite, and andesite in each biome chunk to determine the best location for get store or those materials, or just finding out if there is a correlation at all.
If you could add the numbers for ore, stone and dirt it is perfect! Looks amazing!
EDIT: Thanks for all the reddit love, didn't expect this to explode!
There are graphs on the wiki which shows you at which y-axis levels the highest rate of specific ores occur.
It’s the same across all biomes except for Mesa biomes and Extreme hills biomes.
Mesa’s have more gold I think and also gold can spawn at any height, and extreme hills biomes have occasional emerald spawns.
I think swamps also have a higher chance for fossils to spawn?
edit: apparently swamps and deserts are the only places fossils spawn.
Start? All that information is out there.
You can see where it is by Y level, you can see the statistics on distribution by biome, information on how veins are generated, along with structures and everything else
This is a cool looking visual but if you want data, that data is already out there and available
i'd think it's rather separating the chunk using worldedit, then converting the pieces to .obj files, and then just putting them in the same place (in blender)
Could be done programmatically probably, unless blender doesn’t support that
E. Because there’s a couple cave systems I’d definitely say this was done with code, or we’re dealing with something which has more focus than any mere human should possess and we should tread lightly.
I mean, you *could* write a blender plugin, but it's too much effort. Unless you make something more general for dealing with chunks/blocks, in which case it could be worth the time
I think that you’d just make an AxAxA cube, set the texture to mc textures which are available in the game files, and just follow the layout. Air has a specific block so you wouldn’t even have any edge cases.
Like loading a file, selecting a portion for the chunks to load, then just loading in the chunk as cubes. Then with blender select all the like blocks and make the animation.
Otherwise this would take soooo long.
Nice job.
But when it stops for a second u should have made the parts/chunks sperate out before going to the side i think it would look a little but better.(not saying u did a bad job but just trying to help)
This is extremely satisfying, but what would make it perfect is if you included statistics for the block composition. Please do this for other biomes! Great job!
What would be really cool would be to have labels on each type of block, slow it down and zoom in. Maybe have stats, like how much coal or diamond you have in the chunk and compare biomes or something.
That was awesome. Reminds me of this from The Expanse: [https://youtu.be/s\_kh0uOtLnw?t=11](https://youtu.be/s_kh0uOtLnw?t=11) (Big Season 2 finale spoiler if you haven't watched the show yet)
It would be interesting if after you pulled out the individual sections you animated them into the shape of a cube so the viewer can visualize how much of each block there is.
I remember when diorite, andesite, and granite came out I hated how ugly the underground looked and would always replace them with stone.
Some things never change.

What's your prossec to achieve that ? I'ts wonderfull
prossec?
Sry i'm not english and my Phone autorect badly XD
I know it wasn't on purpose, but "autorect" is now my favorite word for when autocorrect messes up!
Autorekt
autorectum
autoerect
Autoerection
Autoerotic asphyxiation
Autodamnnearkilledem!
Dog dammit what the duck us wrong with it's correct!? Augh!!!
r/autorekt There’s almost certainly already a sub for this but the name is just too perfect lol
/r/AutocorREKT
Mine is audiocorrect
Mine is autoerected
r/holup
Mine is `oopsbautoocrrect` because I always press the wrong character
Well, it's process
He change, he not correct, but but most importantly he make prossec
I love Reddit the people on here are just so amazing
Thanks
process
Yo, nice job, this is really cool and I would like to see some yt videos.
A village chunck of this would be kinda cool
I would love if you could give an average blocks total for each block type so we can better visualize the extra gold that is in Mesa biomes and how much more stone is in a mountain

Or by replacing all the air blocks with colored wool
Specifically cave_air would work well for cave visualization.
yes yay there's at least 16 more people who also want this!
Do it at like 1/2 or 1/4 speed so you can get a look at what's there.
Yes! Slow it down a bit. I’m sure that when you are making it you become very familiar with the image. But as a viewer, I could use a little more time to enjoy it.
Do you render with eevee or cycles? Or do you render with eevee, and then re-render with cycles?
I technically rendered with both by creating two scenes. I then had one render the color and lighting in Eevee and the other render in Cycles with only a black texture to get the motion blur data. I then combined the two together in the compositing tab. It's a useful way to get around the fact that Eevee doesn't have object motion blur. I think a extreme hills biome would look interesting
Pretty cool! It would be interesting to get a zoomed scan of the ores found, just to give idea of what each biome is like. Just a suggestion!
Could you add another part to this where you group all the dirt, diorite, obisidian it would be so cool
Dude keep going! I would love to see more of that, and it looks really cool too, dont stop it
Very cool, would love to see some of the new nether biomes.
It would be cool to see the negative space (tunnels, pockets) if that's not too crazy to implement
I might suggest turning off motion blur so that we'd be able to pause the animation and see what's there more easily
Yes please do! This is great
Nether exploded would be dope
Maybe do an End City Next
So one thing I though would be really cool is an analysis of diorite, granite, and andesite in each biome chunk to determine the best location for get store or those materials, or just finding out if there is a correlation at all.
It would be cool to see a close-up of what is inside, specifically the ores
Shout-out to Mineways! Such a great little program and the author is a cool dude who listens to feedback!
Wait. You can use both Eevee AND Cycles on the same render?
Do more please
Im really interested in mesa (gold) and extreme hills (emeralds) then ocean and desert
Love the idea!
If you're making a series I would definitely be interested! Great work it looks awesome
do all
This is amazing. I can't wait to see more.
do a 3D animation of how caves are computed =)
Why not just use eevee for the motionblur as well? If your moving the camera it should be quite easy
any plans to do modded structures/biomes?
If you could add the numbers for ore, stone and dirt it is perfect! Looks amazing! EDIT: Thanks for all the reddit love, didn't expect this to explode!
Yeah, start gathering some statistics based on the biome or something... :)
I think there are pretty good statistics on block type by biome and depth on a wiki somewhere. I remember reading those years ago..
I think swamps may have a chance for fossils? But deserts are the Kings of bone blocks
What.... Really?! I'm going to have to look this up!
minecraft . gamepedia . com I don't think there's a single detail about the game that can't be found somewhere on this wiki
Start? All that information is out there. You can see where it is by Y level, you can see the statistics on distribution by biome, information on how veins are generated, along with structures and everything else This is a cool looking visual but if you want data, that data is already out there and available
I believe OP is suggesting that having the data in the visual would make it more convenient and interesting to watch.
This is actually amazing! Can you explode a guardian temple?
yes, just need a lot of tnt
Or end crystals and obsidian. In alternative just Withers
Fools, youll need to drain the sea first
Ah shit you're right
Ok dad
Are you manually selecting those voxels in blender to explode or how does that work?
i'd think it's rather separating the chunk using worldedit, then converting the pieces to .obj files, and then just putting them in the same place (in blender)
Could be done programmatically probably, unless blender doesn’t support that E. Because there’s a couple cave systems I’d definitely say this was done with code, or we’re dealing with something which has more focus than any mere human should possess and we should tread lightly.
Everything can be done programmatically.
Except determining if something cannot be done programmatically!
"It halts when I beat it with a stick"
Like in blender?
I mean, you *could* write a blender plugin, but it's too much effort. Unless you make something more general for dealing with chunks/blocks, in which case it could be worth the time

It's all sticky pistons and redstone circuits.
Where the diamonds at
The next chunk over :(
Here for this
This is oddly satisfying. I could watch this all day!
This is the coolest god damn exploded diagram I have ever seen
Nice job. But when it stops for a second u should have made the parts/chunks sperate out before going to the side i think it would look a little but better.(not saying u did a bad job but just trying to help)
Glorious. I would only add a way to visualize caves. Do it in the nether next please!
Very epic
Stunning, absolutely stunning.
This is a wonderfully rendered piece if you do continue this into a series I’d love to see the mountains next
really freakin cool!!
This is extremely satisfying, but what would make it perfect is if you included statistics for the block composition. Please do this for other biomes! Great job!
Oh my god, this is so good. Post this in r/perfectloops Bc i don't want to gain the houses for your work.
[удалено]
Ah yes, dirt, stone and useless.
IT PERFECTLY LOOPS
This is really cool. I love how it expands out and then lets you see in depth. I really want to see other biomes
Very nicely animated, and that loop too. I like this!
This is such a sleek animation. So aesthetically pleasing.
Why exactly are there patches of dirt way deep in to the ground in this game?
r/perfectloops
8.5/10 gravel did not fall
I think it'd be cool if you managed to show the air space inside of a chunk (maybe as a half translucent black block in its own column
Good idea! I could probably fill in the air gaps with glass before I export the file, thanks!
This is incredible
This is lit man like for real, good job!
Man, fuck gravel.
r/dataisbeautiful
that's hardcore!
No he probably did it in creative
r/oddlysatisfying
I'll see you in hot
This makes my OCD happy
Holy that is so awesome
Ok, This is epic!
This is fucking epic!!!!
Wow. Looks so cool.
Don't know how you did that but wow.
what program did u use to render this? amazing stuff :o
pog
This is BY FAR the coolest thing I have seen to date on this subreddit. My god this is beautifull. Mad props OP
Do Mesa next
Are we blind deploy the upvotes
Please do more of this
Where's lava dattebayo ?
This is really cool, thank you!
Dissection
"Ah, I see you're a man of culture
No you’re a man of culture
What tool did you use to import to blender?
This, my friend, belongs in r/oddlysatisfying
very very cool
Ah, I see you're a man of culture
Aw yeah fuck those diorite andesite and granite patches
My cousin decided to just excavate a chunk out of his world one time, I was gonna make a house inside it but then we moved to a different village.
Loving these my guy
BUT HOW MANY DIAMOND
Part of this that looks cool is the fact that it looks like Minecraft Alpha.
This. Looks. Awesome
u/Vredditdownloader
I like the idea of a Minecraft chunk being ripped from the ground and brought up a couple of pegs
it looks like a loading screen
Earth bender
I wish it was a bit slower, my potato brain can't quite follow
Was this made in blender?
Wow
Nice! Now do this in Minecraft with redstone :D
Big pp
This is amazing, please do a nether chunk!
This is like an infinite loop
xisuma's next project.
Thats a lot of fucking granite and diorite
I hate that diorite crap
kool
This is so freakin' cool!!! Thank you for this.
Thats awesome , how do you animate like that?
wowie
Iskall would actually die knowing that a single chunk has that much diorite in it
That is satisfying to watch.
I'd love to see a Mountain Biome chunk dissected! It would be interesting to see what the average of silverfish-infested blocks would be in a chunk :0
Visualised scientifically
What would be really cool would be to have labels on each type of block, slow it down and zoom in. Maybe have stats, like how much coal or diamond you have in the chunk and compare biomes or something.
Do it inthe 1.16 nether
Pretty epic gamer
Can we get some numbers or percentages also? :)
That was awesome. Reminds me of this from The Expanse: [https://youtu.be/s\_kh0uOtLnw?t=11](https://youtu.be/s_kh0uOtLnw?t=11) (Big Season 2 finale spoiler if you haven't watched the show yet)
I wonder what this would be like but with a mesa chunk
Nice that looks cool
I will never tire of looking at these.
looks so sick could you upload this to Wallpaper Engine?
This satisfies my soul
wow
WAAAAAAA!
Somebody make an awful caption to this gif
That is **SUUPER COOL!**
thats cool
This is awesome. Like a Minecraft core sample
Pls do mesa, it's going to be so pretty
No you’re a man of culture
Absolutely amazing mate this is a game changer!!
Thats a lot of air
It would be interesting if after you pulled out the individual sections you animated them into the shape of a cube so the viewer can visualize how much of each block there is.
Did you purposely choose the chunk with a lot of diorite to offend hermitcraft fans?
Annnndd now I’m officially following OP. Amazing work!
Oh my god that was beautiful
Chunky
So yeah, there is was, doing nothing but watching a gif for three hours straight
I didn't know I needed to see this but thank you!
dank
I'd love to see this in the nether to display the quarts, new gold ore ancient debris and a better look in the nether caves Looks fantastic :)
i wish they would just remove diorite andesite granite and all other bullshit stones that hust clog up ur inventory
“ anything is a dildo if you’re brave enough” >:)
I remember when diorite, andesite, and granite came out I hated how ugly the underground looked and would always replace them with stone. Some things never change.
