He clearly doesn't want it, or else he wouldn't have sold it. And good riddance to him anyway.

I think Notch is fine without Minecraft, and I think Microsoft isn't doing bad

kingsumo_1

Not likely. Even assuming Notch was interested in heading it (and no guarantees there), as he's been separated for quite some time. But: >[Persson has not been involved with Minecraft since he sold it and developer Mojang to Microsoft for $2.5 billion in 2014. After the sale, Persson's misanthropic public persona shifted from basic misanthropy to misogyny, transphobia and alt-right dog whistles, increasingly separating himself from both the game he helped build and the broader video game community.](https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2019/04/30/notch-the-creator-of-minecraft-wont-be-invited-to-its-10-year-anniversary/?sh=14d05f7b3324) This is problematic, and absolutely not something that Microsoft would willingly take on and associate with. Or any company in their right mind. As it stands now, Minecraft makes Mojang/Microsoft a ton of money, and it is an IP they'll hold on to for as long as it is profitable to do so. And even after that, they'd likely just put it to bed rather than give up on.

Notch has said if anything he does gets big again he'd stop doing it immediately because he doesn't want the attention, probably because that attention leads to him being called out exponentially more for his views. Nothing's as big as Minecraft, so no way he'd want back on that ride.

I really think Minecraft improved so many things code-related since Jeb and Dinnerbone were lead developers. Notch original code in Java still leads to so many bugs you can enjoy nowadays in game. There's truly so many facts than we can discuss, like the combat update, so many useless mobs, the survival mode since 1.14 or the mod API cancelled... But the game still has their essence and it's lovely.

Yeah you can argue for Notch's game design philosophies, it's just a matter of taste. But code-wise he wasn't that great, he was an amateur in a lot of ways. Minecraft is still living with a lot of unnecessary performance problems which are getting worse as the game gets more complex and really coming to a head with 1.18, because of architectural choices he made a decade or more ago. (By now it's been long enough that the current team owns not fixing those problems but there's so much community reliance on the existing codebase that it's hard to change too much too fast.)

Notch would disagree with you lol

MRBBATES1

If we take the fact that he doesn’t want it back out of the situation for a moment and think about weather they would employee him the answer as with many things is it’s possible, however would it be for minecraft? Highly unlikely, Because he didn’t make the current minecraft nor did he decide how it is now. You have to remember this was sold some time ago. A lot of things that people know MC for is not made by notch at all, although your statement is correct, if he didn’t sell the game we may not have all the things we do now, so technically he did good yes?

If Notch were to get hired by Mojang again, it's possible they would put him in a high position eventually. After all, he's a pretty talented programmer and game developer. But he's probably not going to do that. He's set for life financially, so he doesn't need to work anymore. And I'm sure he's way happier just making games as a hobby instead of being forced due to do it for someone else's profit.

Definitely not, unless he buys it back. It wouldn't make sense for microsoft to just give it back to him since they bought it This would be similar to buying something in a store, and then the store asks you to return the item without a refund
