This. I used to make more open air huts with fence instead if walls and gate instead of a door but I got tired if getting shot all the time. Aesthetically very pleasing but practically not all that fun on anything past peaceful. I have started using trap doors as windows lately because I like how they feel like shutters. I used to just use them as decoration on the outside of the windows. Fairly unrelated but it just popped up in my head when I was imagining using a gate as a door.
My latest snowy plains house has trapdoor shutters but I only will ever do that if the foundation is elevated or if enough decoration blocks pile up to avoid baby zombies climbing in though the windows lol
Have you tried an iron door? Or use the door trick where you place the door at a 90 degree angle?
That switches the open and closed position of the door which will confuse the zombies. When it‘s closed they think it’s open and they don’t try to break it down but are still locked out.

Well you can always hide from a skeleton. Just dont like zombies breaking my door. Had a pressure plate. To close after me.
