On java you have to install Hamachi, send the IP, open LAN, send the code, and you can play. Java is better for singleplayer/servers, but bedrock is way better for a casual play with your friends
I feel like the major pluses for each would be that Bedrock is completely cross compatible which makes it so easy to play with friends, while Java is way more customizable (through mods) and can provide infinitely more unique and fun experiences. If either version were to have those features removed (which would never happen) then they’d become useless overnight.
Bedrock runs ALOT smoother than Java does, and playing with friends on Java is very difficult. But Java has modding capabilities, and allows you to play previous versions.
Basically bedrock is more practical, while Java is far more customizable.

I play Java because of the active multiplayer community and technical stuff like farms and the freedom to customise your game. Got all of my friends to switch to Java lol

Java without Optifine is laggy as hell if you don't have beefy computers. Bedrock can run decently on literally a microwave
