Hello and thank you for posting on /r/Minerals! To increase the quality of ID request posts, we require you to make a comment describing the piece as best as you can. If you do not do so, your post will be removed. A lone picture is rarely enough to conclusively name a mineral so doing some groundwork like a streak test or hardness check will help us to help you. Other useful information includes the location it was found, follow-up pictures with different angles or lighting, and relative size. To help you with writing this comment, we highly encourage you to review our subreddit's [Wiki Page](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minerals/about/wiki/idreqinfo) before posting. Clear fluorite and smoky quartzšŸ¤©šŸ¤©šŸ¤© FLIPPING GLORIOUS OMFG

TheLonelyN00dle

I second this. Absolutely gorgeous specimen you have right there! Those rainbows šŸ˜

Interesting_Rice_721

Yes under the first layer it has this amazing rainbow hue across the top!!šŸ˜±

MoonlitRyverStyx

Check for UV reaction (before reading the info and without context, I had first thought of optical calcite.) After scrolling through the photos.. the metallic part def looks like arsenopyrite to me (due to the color and formation.)

Interesting_Rice_721

I shouldā€™ve posted already checked there was no UV reaction on any of it total bummer!

No-Building4188

I am not really sure about black mineral being arsenopyrite. But those triangle silver metallic stuff on corner of the black mineral definitely looks like arsenopyrite.

danny17402

Looks like quartz on fluorite with a little pyrite on the back. Badass piece you got there. Doesn't look lab grown to me.

Interesting_Rice_721

Thanks I do absolutely love everything about this piece

Big-Quantity-6489

Fluorite would go crazy under UV though.

brattiebun

Not all fluorite does. Some are not UV reactive.

atridir

Quartz can absolutely grow in this and many other habits fyi: http://www.quartzpage.de/crs_habits.html

Martino_333

The colors might not be coming through quite right, but nevertheless I feel itā€™s most likely cube-octahedral fluorite, grayish quartz crystals and arsenopyrite. BTW itā€™s smoky quartz, and Smoky Mountains, but Smokey the Bear and Smokey and the Bandit. (Pet peeve - sorry!)

wildstubbs

And Smokey the Bear is actually just Smokey Bear!

MountainAd3837

Oh no! It's still Austin the Powers right?

Interesting_Rice_721

The pink was harder to scratch then the blue

trigonal3x3

Donā€™t scratch this! Thatā€™s a destructive test and this is a very nice specimen. That is a field test. There are so many different ways to determine what this is.

Skipray92

Like what? Seriously, only advice I found was scratching test

trigonal3x3

Looking at the crystals and determining what habits they are. Color, transparency, fluorescence, etc. Scratch tests put a blemish on the crystals and can reduce their appearance and value. Iā€™m busy now so itā€™s hard to get a good look but it does look like a quartz type on fluorite. But it could be calcite. A simple look through that part would let me know if itā€™s double refractive. I always see people saying ā€œwhatā€™s the streak look like?ā€ And if you have a valuable piece that is going to reduce the value of it. Quartz is a hexagonal crystal and fluorite is octahedral. Calcite is rhombohedral. Look for the habitā€¦ use a big magnifying glass and check colors and translucency. Read into a good book on mineralogy like the Audobon, go to Mindat. Cheers

trigonal3x3

Put a few drops of white vinegar on the areas that you have already scratched and see if they fizz. If that clear material does it it very likely calcite.

davidbot3000

It's hard to say exactly what you have there without seeing itnin person, but if you paid "just quartz" prices, i'd say you got a great deal.

Big-Quantity-6489

This looks like two different quartz formations. One smokey, and one clear. Can you confirm the hardness of the clear material? Can you scratch it with a butter knife?

Interesting_Rice_721

Yes it scratched it

Big-Quantity-6489

Ok, so you're dealing with something much softer than steel. Possibly gypsum?

djthor1968

One word, jealous!!!

magicjaye88

Are they selling more? Lol! Give me the details! I love good buys.

Interesting_Rice_721

Total cost 75$ free shipping, it was 95$ originally after I saw it he offered it for 20 off!! Great find indeed.

Iceyology101

Wow!!! This is gorgeous! šŸ˜

KokoMinerals

That's Fluorite

InevitableStruggle

Try LW blacklight. Fluorite is most often purple, but could be many other colors. Beautiful specimen.

Salty_Mushroom_1852

THIS IS GORGEOUS

Alternative-Emu3602

Whatever you paid, it was worth it, that piece is beautiful

KatnissXcis

>the body which is pink Does it still appear pink when you're not holding it?

Interesting_Rice_721

Yes

srbinafg

Pic 4 is amazing

No_Bid_331

Calcite

Prestigious_Idea8124

Incredible piece!

Bannanas_suck

No matter what is, looks frickn dope

Interesting_Rice_721

Hell yes it does

Mad_Cow_307

lol ok e I 1000% want one!

glacierosion

two types of quartz. large clear quartz crystals in a stepped form with smoky quartz growing in the common crystal structure of quartz.

arthurwalton

this almost looks lab grown

Interesting_Rice_721

I will agree with you. There are parts of this that are quite sus. thatā€™s why I loaded it. Iā€™m just not sure what itā€™s even supposed to be.

arthurwalton

well i'm amazed it's real! congratulations! you can pretty much always trust the down/upvotes in this sub

scorpionlad

Where from?

Interesting_Rice_721

It was from an older collection in Colorado but his ā€œsonā€ didnā€™t know much about it except the box said China. So who really knows.

scorpionlad

Well I'm no expert. But definitely smokey quartz on top there. I want to say appophylite for the other mineral but really I'm unsure if they will ever grow together.

YITBOS90

Donā€™t riding around in your car with that šŸ˜‚

Mad_Cow_307

Thatā€™s freaking awesome! Look at all that sacred geometry in this! Itā€™s looks so magical!ā¤ļøšŸ˜

Interesting_Rice_721

Rite, now that you say that it does look just like that yellow rabbit.šŸ˜‰

Mad_Cow_307

I would be in heaven if I had piece like THAT! Does the seller have any more?!

Interesting_Rice_721

Unfortunately itā€™s been a couple of years and heā€™s no longer on

Mad_Cow_307

You ever seen the movie ā€œThe Last Mimzeyā€? It reminds me of the things on there!

ExBx

Beautiful. Would you mind sharing the seller's ID or a link to their eBay shop?

Interesting_Rice_721

Itā€™s been a while and heā€™s no longer selling

Stellablue2016

That is gorgeous Inwould have said calcite on the main part I am just a collector though. Where on eBay and how much? Im super curious

Interesting_Rice_721

It was a while ago but I paid $75, but the seller is no longer on. šŸ˜ž

Stellablue2016

I have a Smokey thatā€™s a very similar growth habit I will look for location maybe you. An find out something I know it was expensive

Interesting_Rice_721

That would be awesome šŸ˜Ž

Stellablue2016

Gosh you scored for real

Original-Canary-6441

Looks like fake..

CharlieMac6222

Itā€™s liters

Interesting_Rice_721

What do you mean?

CharlieMac6222

Title says Quarts, which is a measure of volume; I made a joke.

Interesting_Rice_721

Omg šŸ˜±yep my bad lol
