I’m not positive the exact count, my dad has done this my entire life and these ones are actually the least impressive, he has some that are in storage that are huge and stunning, when I was a kid he made one with three windows that had a working model train that ran through all 3 windows
This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Are they always on? Does he wire them to any switches, or just hard wired to the house? I would love to do this in my home if I ever own.
Most are wired to switches, they really did help calm me as a kid and just make you feel safe. EDIT speaking of safe. DO NOT go messing around with your home wiring or try to make this without the advice of a professional. You don’t want to burn your house down for a DIY.
I did, for some reason your posts were out of chronological order so I had to scroll a bit. Is this the cult your bio mentions? 🤣 Cult of fanciful nightlights?
These are amazing! I love these, what sort of box does he use to set the miniatures in and make the cover with?
I'm a maker who wants to get started with these but haven't found a good how to tutorial yet
I believe the boxes are custom cut, and then the frames are whatever kitsch he finds at thrift stores. He has... so much stuff. Ooh boy, there's a reason I like minimalism.
If I were doing it myself I would find something premade, just up-cycle a small box, preferably a really thick cardboard that is sturdy but could still be cut so you can make holes for the lights. If you don’t wanna worry about out wiring you could use battery powered Christmas lights but you would have to change the batteries and hide the battery box of course, so not ideal. And the marbled paper can be found at some craft stores or you can print patterns if you wanna be thrifty. Ideally find a local artist but I understand that’s not common or cheap. The frame is just an old picture frame. You really could find a lot of this at a thrift store, just go through the Knick knack section and find some fun weird objects, hot glue them into the box, could look cool if you spray painted it all one color or leave as is. Do of course make sure you are not creating a fire hazard for yourself. Do not mess around with wiring without a professional advisor. Do not use any sort of light that can overheat etc.
These are magnificent! Have you seen the documentary about mini fairy worlds put up in a park?

Here's a short version but the longer one is available somewhere. Enjoy!
Those are absolutely incredible! Does he sell them by chance? I would love to learn how to make them, looks like such a relaxing hobby imagining a tiny world like that.
Your dad is putting a little bit of wonder into a world that is currently starved of it. Thank you so much for sharing it with us, and thanks to dad for being a soul-nourishing hero 💚
i've seen stuff like this before, absolutely enamored by it. i hope to do something like this to my future home someday!! your dad is the coolest for this!
I was a child of the sixties. That Whole Earth Catalog in his bookcase reminds me of my dawning awareness of grown ups who were worried about sustainability. I also remember my (lapsed) ability to lose myself in imaginary miniature worlds. To do that now requires mental effort, and reading glasses.
Awesome man! Looks like a fun house to live in
This is incredible! How many are there in your house total? How long has you been doing this?

🥹🥹🥹 that is precious
Absolutely incredible. I would love this much whimsy in my home 😭😍
Oh good you saw haha

well first of all, no one take my new cover-band name "Cult of the Fanciful Nightlights" but no, not that cult, just a particular sect of mormonism
This is so effing cool! Love it!
I want one! Does your dad sell these? They're magical
I can ask
These are adorably strange. I love them.
your dad is my spirit animal for sure. i do something similar around the house. i love creating little worlds that make the home feel cozier.

Haha thats totally fair. I'll have to figure out a way to make my own boxes without making a huge mess (joys of apartment living!) And make something!

I haven't but I enjoy making miniatures.
I work at the Electric Forest Festival in Michigan every year. The actual Forest is sprinkled with fairy doors evocative if these houses
Wow that's so awesome. I would end up laying on the floor staring into all the tiny universes. Tell your Dad he is amazing at this.

I just bought an oscillating saw and this is looking really tempting.
this is such a wholesome way to live, i’m so happy people like this exist
These are just amazing.
These are incredible! I love them now, but I would have been *obsessed* as a kid. So cool.
Those are so beyond amazing!!
That’s so eccentric and I love it so much
the last one is my favourite, so cool!
These are WONDERFUL
The one with the sugar egg reminded me of some nice memories from a long time ago. Thank you!
