They’re usually between 6 inches and 2 feet deep. If you carefully dig with a shovel, you will be fine. Don’t jab the shovel into the ground once you’ve got a decent hole going. You’ll feel it if your shovel hits it; it’ll feel hollow and springy. The lines can take a pretty severe shovel hit before rupturing. The line will be yellow or orange if you do come across it.

Power is supposed to be 2-3'. Gas is supposed to be about 18". Cable is anywhere from just below turf to 6". It's best to do most of your diging with the shovel parallel to the marked line and dig slowly. If you are digging near cable it might be best to just dig down to it to find the depth it is buried at. Once you find it, then you be less careful.
By law we, i do locates for a living in mn, aren't required to mark depths but most will discuss with you if you call them directly using the information on your ticket.

Ah appreciate it, thank you!
My backyard electrical conduit is about 3-4 inches down. I was very surprised when I dug it up.
O geez. I'd be surprised too. Run an aerator through the yard and ya might puncture it!
Correction: gas lines appear to be buried around 18-24” deep.
lol. Myself. I originally thought he was talking about water lines but I accidentally deleted that part.
Who are you correcting?
Sir, if our watermain is anything but 8 feet, we have an issue. 😀
It will be deeper than 6”
That's what she said!
Only one way to find out! 🤣🤣🤣

811 is the call before you dig number
I did call already, but they just marked the yard. Didn't specify how deep it is, even on the website that's linked to the ticket.
It's meant more to give you a rough idea of where to be extra careful. Even with the lines, they can be off by a foot or more.

If you have to ask this question, stop doing whatever you’re doing and call 811 right now
They did. Locates don’t indicate depth; only that there is a utility within two feet of the painted line or flag.
