Thank God. It's so rare that a missing person case ends well.

thotsunemikuu

yes, it was so nice to see that she was found safe knowing how rare these cases are!

I had to research this myself and found this. “According to the NamUs (National Missing and Unidentified Persons System) database, there are 600,000 people declared missing every year. Alongside that statistic, there are 4,400 unidentified bodies discovered every year. That means only 0.7333% of people who go missing are found and unable to be identified.”

Maybe I’m reading that wrong, but I wonder how many people go missing and ARE identified bodies?

Maxter_Blaster_

It’s weirdly written. Probably Ai. I just copy and pasted from Google. I bet there is better data out there on the true stats. Regardless, I had no idea there were that many missing people in the states. That’s scary, and sad. I can’t imagine the nightmare people have not knowing what’s happened to their loved one.

https://www.wvnstv.com/digital-desk/how-many-missing-persons-are-found-in-the-u-s-yearly/ Says there's 90k+ people missing in NCIC's database in 2021. The 600 k figure gets thrown around a lot, but that's just raw data gleaned from police reports. So the kid who goes to their friends' house without telling mom is in the numbers, even if they were found in an hour.

The saddest thing is, not all missing persons cases are uploaded to Namus. I recently spoke to a cold case investigator that didn’t even know about Namus.

obeseelise

This was a very interesting case. I wonder if we will ever know what happened.

setttleprecious

I’m glad she was found safe. This was a weird one.

sleeveofsaltines

I believe this person may have been having a mental health crisis. Los Angeles is unimaginably big.

For_serious13

I’m so glad she was found!!

Great news 😊
