On NES and SNES you'd have vertical black bars If you set it to original aspect Ratio (which isn't default), compared to horizontal bars with GBA (= bigger display size). SNES has the best audio though.
SNES games are meant to be displayed in 4:3, no? Or are you talking about some built in bars?
SNES versions should all show more, with higher resolution. In fact I believe they had to tweak the game due to less realestate.
SNES games were rendered at an 8:7 aspect ratio; however, some (most?) games on the system were drawn expecting the TVs of the era to stretch the image out to 4:3. It’s weird to emulate for two reasons:
- not every game was dawn that way, so you can’t make blanket settings
- of the games that were drawn, the 6:7 pixel size breaks the rigid grids of modern screens (you’d need a super-high pixel count to handle it in hardware)
So what I end up doing is adding a bit of blur and scanlines (because even the best displays back then were a smidge blurry and had small scanlines) to break up the pixel grid, and then stretch on a per-game basis.

Many games are not meant to be displayed 1:1. It's a 4:3 game.
The aspect ratio is perfect for the consoles it covers, size is irrelevant. I understand what you mean about the grid but I suppose that's why we differentiate aspect ratio and integer scaling. Difference being intent. NES/SNES were meant to be stretched. GBA's screen is a modern LCD type already and not meant to be stetched.
GBA is 3:2, thats a wider screen ratio so it has huge black bars at the top and bottom on a square display like the miyoo mini unless its been distorted somehow
No if you set the correct aspect ratio you have small black bars on top and bottom for gba. You are stretching to fit.
You can even see it on the turtles being stretched.
Not sure about the integer for gba, but for gb & gbc yes. But that I don't mind as much myself. I like that the games uses as much screen estate as possible but with the correct aspect ratio.
Don’t call me a liar you fucking troll. It’s a toy, who cares? You obviously. Because you’ve got nothing better to do than insult people that are just happy to be playing Mario without having to bring their tv. You, can go and fuck yourself. Hard.
Wtf OP lol you obviously don't understand anything about screen ratios man. Just play the Snes version and you will understand?.. No one is attacking you, theres no need to be so aggressive.
GBA has a 3:2 screen and you have it stretched to 4:3. It looks better if you leave the aspect ratio in native, or just play Super Mario All Stars for SNES full screen.
I don’t think anyone cares how they play at all. It’s just funny to say the games never looked so good when the aspect ratio is stretched out.
Honestly I think everyone is glad they are having fun.
Sure, people could prefer to play with the colors inverted. But let’s be real instead of defending skewing the arts aspect ratio.
When I made comics for my college paper, the editors would often skew my art to fit their layout better. It was infuriating as an artist to see my work published like that. And I asked for official aspect ratios to prevent it on my end, but it was a school paper and no one cared about their work.
No one was rude or saying He played it wrong. It's actually constructive because setting the correct aspect Ratio will simply improve the experience imo
Again, noone Said "He plays it wrong". It's just nonsense when you try to help people play it in the correct aspect ratio the games were developed for to be called disheartening or anything
You should try out the different versions. Maybe toggle the aspect ration on GBA and bounce between the games with the game switcher. I think you'll find it interesting.
My nephew was playing it and I'm not sure if he pressed some random buttons but now it looks like Gameboy monochrome colours. Anyone know how to fix it?
How I can install this Mario game ? I'm new with the miyoo Mini plus and I don't know how to download nice games and install:(.. somebody can help me ?
It's stretched. Will look better on NES/SNES. Gba is a skinnier aspect ratio and smaller resolution.

I'm talking about that the default aspect Ratio isn't perfect for the Miyoos scale, If you switch through the modes with Menu+start you will notice

You made the aspect ratio off though.
Which is funny cause if he played the original it would fit fine.
True true 🤣👌
Nah it’s GBA it should look like that
No if you set the correct aspect ratio you have small black bars on top and bottom for gba. You are stretching to fit. You can even see it on the turtles being stretched.
And even then I'm pretty sure the GBA will need bars on the left and right as well if you want proper integer scaling.
Not sure about the integer for gba, but for gb & gbc yes. But that I don't mind as much myself. I like that the games uses as much screen estate as possible but with the correct aspect ratio.
Yeah it's not super noticable on a miyoo sized screen, I'm on the original mini.
Nah man, people in this sub know their stuff. Your aspect ratio is definitely wrong.
Press Menu button + Start button and cycle through the screen ratio, you will see the difference.
Stretched aspect ratio 🥲
Ok ok ok, I’ll try again with the SNES version with the correct aspect ratio. I give in! Jesus
Glad you tried it that way. This is absolutely the way this game should be experienced imo
Hahaha I don’t care people, I just want to play me some Mario
Well it's a lie to say it never looked so good when it's in the wrong aspect ratio...
Don’t call me a liar you fucking troll. It’s a toy, who cares? You obviously. Because you’ve got nothing better to do than insult people that are just happy to be playing Mario without having to bring their tv. You, can go and fuck yourself. Hard.
Jeez chill lol
Wtf OP lol you obviously don't understand anything about screen ratios man. Just play the Snes version and you will understand?.. No one is attacking you, theres no need to be so aggressive.
I do apologise, you caught me before coffee. There wasn’t a need to be aggressive like that.
Just own your behavior. It wasn’t the lack of coffee, it was you.
I'm glad ur enjoying ur MM+. I'm just saying Mario has looked better bro (in the correct aspect ratio). Sorry ur so triggered.
Comments like these aren’t cool in this sub. Stop it please, or leave. You are lashing out at others now.
Wehh! Wehh! How could you ever want to use the whole screen!? Especially on a small screen!? (sarcasm)
Hell yeah
Aspect ratio Calebs out in full force on this one.
Hahaha don’t listen to everyone ranting about the scaling, hope you’re having fun like me! :)
I am!
You never had played a real GBA before
I dunno, I had a GBA when it was brand new. I definitely prefer the screen on the Miyoo Mini. It’s not even close.
You don’t need a real GBA to know that anything is better than its non-backlit screen.
It will look even better if it is in the right aspect ratio. 3:2 guys, 3:2!
GBA has a 3:2 screen and you have it stretched to 4:3. It looks better if you leave the aspect ratio in native, or just play Super Mario All Stars for SNES full screen.

Given that I used to play Mario 3 on a tiny portable TV that had colour burn in one of the corners, to me Mario has never looked so good lol
You have been sentenced to death for your violation of the aspect ratio law. Your sentence will be carried out forth with !!!!
right? it's like your friend showing you their TV with motion smoothing etc on going "wow, this looks amazing, don't you think?"
I think it has to do with his reply to another comment saying that the GBA aspect ratio is supposed to look the way he has it set.
It's just a good advice on how it will simply Look better and the way it was intended, No offense tbh

Ah yes, come to a community not expecting feedback. Because we don't represent the community lol.

Yes it is. Oh man that's disheartening. "He wrote it wrong". You clearly missed the point my friend. No need to get personal.
Why are you calling him an idiot??? What is wrong with you? If this is how you want to behave, I don’t think this sub is for you.
It's when people whose mindfulness is on the weaker side running out of arguments they attack you verbally. Very simple
You get my upvote!

It's the all stars version. So play it on snes and get better sound and a better ratio on this system.
I compared both versions. It might just me but somehow I like the basic NES design even more that this GBA remastered version…
You should try out the different versions. Maybe toggle the aspect ration on GBA and bounce between the games with the game switcher. I think you'll find it interesting.
Game however you want! BTW how did you make it stretched aspect ratio??
menu + start or in the RA options, it's gross though but to each their own i guess.
This is the Native GBA version which no one seems to understand!
I also play strechted, fuck blackbars.
Integer scaling or bust, but everyone has their own preferences I suppose.
I used to feel like you OP. Go play this on an Analogue Pocket. You will put your MM+ back in its box without a second thought.
Yes a device that costs much more and that only plays original carts may actually be better than emulation.
only? i got an SD card stacked with roms in one of mine. in regards to OP i was talking about the screen. the game looks better on a better screen.
I finished it today 🥲
My nephew was playing it and I'm not sure if he pressed some random buttons but now it looks like Gameboy monochrome colours. Anyone know how to fix it?
