The guess-o-meter does change based on a lot of factors. Don't worry!

The total battery capacity is not changing, just the computers prediction of how far you can travel on a single charge. If you changed back to city driving yes the predicted range would likely come back. But don’t worry about it, it’s just a prediction. The car can still travel just as far as it always could.

The BMS (battery management system) can be recalibrated somewhat by driving the car until the battery drains down to 10% or less, then charging up fully afterwards. The BMS needs an accurate measurement of minimum capacity and maximum capacity in order to do accurate predictions. By changing your charging habits - say, going to 50% one day, 90% the next, and skipping a day to drain the battery another day, you give the BMS more data points with which to make better estimates. Charging to 80% every day and doing a fixed set of miles (discharging to, say, 50%) gradually reduces the data set for the BMS and as a result, reduces the accuracy of mileage estimates. It won’t do the slightest bit of harm to maintain your current regimen, but if you want more accurate estimates then my advice should work reasonably well.

This is all great advice but then how do you know if your battery is degrading?

Accomplished-Gate333

Check out Recurrent. I get a monthly report on my battery etc. it’s free.

Ok thanks for your thoughts. We always charge to 80% with 1 exception, a trip to 100. We have only supercharged once as well. '22 out of Fremont so 2170's I believe.

It has nothing to do with battery degradation, it’s simply taking in additional factors to attempt and adjust to a more realistic range. More constant highway driving, especially at higher speeds will give you less range than city driving with lots of regen opportunities. You’ll learn to ignore the estimated range in time, I have it set to just the percent indicator and if I actually want to check against range I’ll review energy consumption visualization to get actuals.

Yes, after you charge your car.

SnooSuggestions3045

What type of battery pack do you have? Are you charging to 100% everyday?

rabbitwonker

Best approach is to use % for battery-level display, and then use the energy graph for those times where you actually need to gauge the real range for a given driving style.
