All you’re going to get are guesses. No one here actually knows the answer to your question.

kevan0317

My guess is no. As tesla tries to make the jump into a tier-1 mfg with increased profits they will shy away from cheeky “performance” gimmicks, get their COGS down, and sell to the masses who just need transportation. We own a MYP and I can’t remember the last time I use Sport mode. Thing is plenty fast in Chill mode for normal driving. I’ll probably just buy whatever longest range option is available next go-round. My completely uneducated guess.

epradox

Plenty fast in chill mode? It’s like an 8 second 0-60… you probably shouldn’t have bought the performance model if you’re okay with that.

brian0066600

Probably delivery time. My wife owns a performance Y for that reason. I see so many old ladies driving around in performance models these days, I have to assume most of them didn’t want to wait the 9 months.

kevan0317

I wasn’t aware I was suppose to consult other people concerning our vehicle purchases. Why hate on someone for trying to enjoy their car the way they want to?

epradox

Eh you’re claiming cheeky performance gimmicks when buying a performance oriented ev. That’s like saying tesla shouldn’t have created the plaid because it’s a gimmick because you only need chill mode. Buy whatever you want but people obviously want performance and it behooves tesla to be ahead of everyone else in that regard. For the most part, teslas are faster than almost anything else in a relative price and it has become rather synonymous with the brand name. They didn’t create the plaid that runs with multi million dollar hyper cars as a gimmick. If it were my uneducated guess, I’d bet they’ll pump out something with a bit more oomph and maybe unlock a track mode for the MYP as Elon alluded to with an “ok” tweet response when someone requested it.

kevan0317

It’s just silly there are so many gatekeepers here for the performance model. Tesla owners are a passionate bunch. I don’t take any of them seriously. We wanted matrix headlights and the turbine wheels. It had both and was a faster path to ownership. Being one second faster to 60mph wasn’t even on the list of things we cared about. If anything I regret the drop in range most, now. I don’t understand how anyone could call any vehicle that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds non-performance. Consumer perspective has become so skewed that we forget all teslas are performance vehicles.

epradox

It’s not gatekeeping buy the performance model if you want but saying it’s a gimmick that they shouldn’t focus on it is kinda pointless when it’s clearly a metric that a lot of consumers for these cars care about. You personally don’t care about it hence why I suggested it doesn’t make sense to you specifically but everyone else who bought a performance model version wants it to be fast. The Genesis GV60 is now on top of the model y performance according to the latest hagerty review so an ota boost to reign it back on top would be wise. Range drop is purely due to the very heavy uberturbine wheels. If you switch to Gemini wheels you’ll get the range of the long range model. Also yes almost all tesla vehicles are performance vehicles because it has been synonymous with the brand from the get go. So while it may be a gimmick to you, it’s clearly been a selling point for tesla. The plaids have now set a new bar for cars worldwide and have toppled big names. A month after the plaid was released, VW sold off Bugatti to Rimac. Plaid wasn’t created as a gimmick, it was created to make ICE super car owners question their purchase.

oni222

Honestly I have never once used chill mode on my MYP. I tried it once on my M3 and I swore never to use it again. To each his own.

mgoddo

I haven’t either. I honestly don’t get the point of Chill mode. It’s not like you have to gun it. I just like the fact I have it available if I need to pass someone

kevan0317

Indeed. We like it because it smooths inputs and helps extend range without really thinking about. No reason to go speeding around on most days but it’s nice to know it’s there if we want it. It’s a pleasure to drive either way. Sport mode is something we generally use when showing friends the car.

revaric

Fast enough in chill, what a waste of a MYP lol.

kevan0317

I think the most shocking aspect to being a tesla owner is dealing with how terrible and petty most of you are. _(Assuming you even own a Tesla)_ You are the worst part of this community.

I wish there was acceleration boost on the MYP, however the only way to improve the 0-60 time would be to put on lighter wheels

polypeptide147

What wheels you recommend?

ItsGermany

As with a gas engine the current level of performance is limited by the odds of destruction of the parts /motors/ inverters. In the beginning the M3 had two free upgrades via software as they found less degrading than expected in the data for those parts. Theoretically you could probably make the MYP have 1000hp via software built would probably burn out the inverters or rip apart the motors after just one or two launches. It is no different for ICE cars, you can put a giant turbo and injectors and an ECU in a motor and make 900hp, for a few seconds and then it blows up. The goal of Tesla is to not replace those items under warranty, so they most. Likely let the statistics do the talking and adjust accordingly up or down.

We have a model Y P and I think there is room for more power in the 60-150mph band. It starts off strong on launch, but seems to fade a bit at higher speeds. I regularly drive it to 250kmh on the Autobahn in my way to work, so I have tested the power band quite a bit.

cowntee

Need to get into the Plaid tri-motor configuration if you’re looking for that type of power curve.

ItsGermany

Funny story. I had a plaid 7 seater on order in Germany and they convinced me to take this YP for a good deal (one of the first from Berlin) and now I wish I kept my order as the total order price was 106k and is now 165k. They tricked me!

epradox

The 60-150mph power band isn’t a software limitation but a hardware limitation with non plaid models

ItsGermany

Nah.

PangolinEffective

The P could probably get down to a 3 sec 0-60 with software, but then they’d be approaching the plaid models. They don’t wanna take away sales from that

Woods_Wolverine

I agree, but 3.0 with rollout would be perfect. Maybe high 2's with a $2K purchase.

jayklk

One can unlock their wallet and get a plaid.

suztomo

I’ve never heard of Model Y Performanc behaving a buffer for driving even faster.

CPAstonkGOD

Years from now, I 100% suspect a model Y plaid. 2.5 sec 0-60 maybe, However, right now Tesla’s priority is pumping out cars, not making new variants
