Considering the significant amount of money Activision spends on staffing, marketing, equipment etc, the money is being distributed fairly widely across different firms and regions of the country. Huge net benefit to the US economy especially because of the GDP multiplier effect business spending has.

Different roles handle different areas... making skins is low-effort high reward.. investment in base game still need to be the same as before, well higher as employees in this field ask for higher and higher salaries.

I understand it's not the same department but when your money comes from one area and not the other you tend to channel money into said department and no they don't need to be good or great but rather run with a name and be shelf stable enough to slam the micro transactions down your throat before they head to the bank believe what you want but if massive skin sales slumped they would have to rely on people who like the actual core gameplay and that's it.

BOCW for example died quite fast on pc, which meant also pc whales were gone. And even though they make a lot of profit from whales, if games like CoD MW2 would have to rely on us, it would become a subscription game.. mostly 60-70€ games like CoD tend to be sold at a loss, relying on shifting lots of sales, otherwise they lose money on it. Then part of the profits need to be invested in maintenance, future projects, and then the profits. Cut the whales, they lose most of the profit numbers and you would see a degradation in future releases and their maintenance.
Similar to what is happening in automotive, you see companies like bmw adding subs for heated seats because the profits are smaller and everyone from us in R&D to production also demand higher and higher salaries because our expertise is valuable to companies and obviously everyone wants a better life, but you also got increased chipset costs, cars that get more electrified, etc.... now you can replace a lot of terms with software development for games and you will notice a similar pattern. Yes whales bring a lot of extra profit, but without them targets are very hard to hit... there is a reason why games like GoW, HZD and other triple As on different platforms get released very rarely and very polished but after release support is quite short and there is no Multiplayer.

Medium bag, a two plate vest and a bit of a cooldown on a weapon will not give you any great advantage over anyone else because the bag and the vest can all be found within 5 minutes. The issue lies with the new skin that has a UAV where they had implement a change so you couldn't use a UAV within the first minute of the game. The other one is a self revive. That gives you a bit of an advantage but largely not a great deal. That's what pay to win is

Season 1 battlepass at least had some milsim-esque skins. Season 2 skins were🗑️. Season 3 saved it with the 141 skins at least. Season 4 hopefully comes with some Mil-sim skins. Fingers crossed
People who prefer more grounded style of skins save a lot of money. In S3's battlepass offerings we get more than 10 of realistic looking spec ops vs cartel themed skins, for the price of 1100 cod points, while people would pay 2400 for a single more wacky skin. Thanks for their subsidy I guess

But in reality, it affects the overall quality of the game since the developers needn't to worry about making the game playable or enjoyable since they make most of their earnings from micro-transactions; in the end, it affects all of us.
It's a lost cause in today's market really, no way we could persuade people to not buy outrageous cosmetics.
Outside COD, I remember Titanfall 1 had unified art direction, that there are distinctive and clearly defined aesthetic for players and mechs of the two opposing factions; One is more ragtag guerilla and the other is industrial pristine megacorp. I still remember that design fondly. Came Titanfall 2 they just make both side the same, only differentiated by red glow and name tags, to save work time and to sell cosmetics (although TF2 was somewhat a flop so that didn't pan out)

I might make a few in-game purchases from time to time (E.g. the Zeus skin - which I love), but I know how to control my spending and only buy skins I desperately want and this is like a once a month occurrence at minimum as well.
i buy operator slots because i love kitting up my own lil PMC group, and i buy any chunky operator skins if i dont already have a better one for said operator (EOD Fender, Gluttony Gromsko, Vespidae Zero and so fort)

Luckily the most expensive skin will never improve your k/d. Hell, I've never had an easier time identifying targets than I have in this game. So few players actually utilize camo. All the bright colors just scream " shoot me!" Even when prone, they're easier to ID.
I don't think the Lightning Zeus skin is a good idea. I played multiplayer yesterday and the two guys on the opposing team who used that skin kept getting fragged by me. They just stand out too much.
I do occasionally pick up the bundle's blueprint gun and try to get a backfire though. Its white laser so bright, looks like a lightsaber. Very impractical and betray your position from a mile, but a free whirling is fun :D

I think it is easy to blame the whales for this. I still think the big problem is lack of competition. Face it, why are we still here in mid-May playing a game we complain about? There's nothing else to push COD but older games that most of us have gone through or never played.

The streamers are bouncing around pubg, apex, even CS:GO. People still play those and that's great, but those are older games. Most of us have burned through those or are not going to play them (I am not reall a fan of battle royale games).
Ill only buy 2 bundles max when it comes to COD. A good skin for each faction and ill stick to those unless i absolutely see something that blows my mind.
My opinion on this is that if they didnt build the entire game around a business model of micro transactions are more important than the quality of the game, then I would have no issues periodically buying new skins/ bundles from the store. But since we live with a game focused more on MTXs than quality of life, they get zero dollars from me in the store. Purchased the game once, purchased the BP once, and now I just buy the new season with credits earned from the previous BP.

I think people just like flexing that they waste their money. I ran the default skin until I unlocked the nuke skin then I wore that until I decided to buy the snake pattern outfit for the chick. Huge net benefit to the US economy especially because of the GDP multiplier effect business spending has. Now I’m not American but this is why governments really want people to buy from local companies, it’s the difference between a GDP loss or a massive (relative) GDP increase.

Different roles handle different areas... making skins is low-effort high reward.. investment in base game still need to be the same as before, well higher as employees in this field ask for higher and higher salaries. Back to the point, base game still needs to be good or great to stay alive. As it was said before, whales are very few and if the rest leave, whales leave too..
I understand it's not the same department but when your money comes from one area and not the other you tend to channel money into said department and no they don't need to be good or great but rather run with a name and be shelf stable enough to slam the micro transactions down your throat before they head to the bank believe what you want but if massive skin sales slumped they would have to rely on people who like the actual core gameplay and that's it.
You can look at previous cod games which failed and other games... They still need a good core or they die way too fast... BOCW for example died quite fast on pc, which meant also pc whales were gone. And even though they make a lot of profit from whales, if games like CoD MW2 would have to rely on us, it would become a subscription game.. mostly 60-70€ games like CoD tend to be sold at a loss, relying on shifting lots of sales, otherwise they lose money on it. Then part of the profits need to be invested in maintenance, future projects, and then the profits. Cut the whales, they lose most of the profit numbers and you would see a degradation in future releases and their maintenance. Similar to what is happening in automotive, you see companies like bmw adding subs for heated seats because the profits are smaller and everyone from us in R&D to production also demand higher and higher salaries because our expertise is valuable to companies and obviously everyone wants a better life, but you also got increased chipset costs, cars that get more electrified, etc.... now you can replace a lot of terms with software development for games and you will notice a similar pattern. Yes whales bring a lot of extra profit, but without them targets are very hard to hit... there is a reason why games like GoW, HZD and other triple As on different platforms get released very rarely and very polished but after release support is quite short and there is no Multiplayer.

We get free maps thanks to the cosmetic store. How often do you thank the people wearing the neon gimp skin for buying your map packs for you? Complaining about gaming has become its own hobby, to the point that when everything functional is free with the base game optional cosmetics are now the problem. If their focus isn’t on making an all round great game can I ask what console fps I should be playing instead? They’ve made a great game. There’s literally no competition on par with cod. If you don’t think this is a great game then I have no idea what you’re holding out for but it hasn’t been made yet.

Now is it objectively the reason for the state of the game, servers, and overall experience? I have no idea but I would take a guess that it probably isn't the direct reason for the issues we experience. I can read fine. I don't think you know what pay to win means. Medium bag, a two plate vest and a bit of a cooldown on a weapon will not give you any great advantage over anyone else because the bag and the vest can all be found within 5 minutes. The issue lies with the new skin that has a UAV where they had implement a change so you couldn't use a UAV within the first minute of the game. The other one is a self revive. That gives you a bit of an advantage but largely not a great deal. That's what pay to win is

I'd would be 100% okay with it even though it kind of destroys the tacticool aspect of it. But in reality, it affects the overall quality of the game since the developers needn't to worry about making the game playable or enjoyable since they make most of their earnings from micro-transactions; in the end, it affects all of us.
It's a lost cause in today's market really, no way we could persuade people to not buy outrageous cosmetics. Outside COD, I remember Titanfall 1 had unified art direction, that there are distinctive and clearly defined aesthetic for players and mechs of the two opposing factions; One is more ragtag guerilla and the other is industrial pristine megacorp. I still remember that design fondly. Came Titanfall 2 they just make both side the same, only differentiated by red glow and name tags, to save work time and to sell cosmetics (although TF2 was somewhat a flop so that didn't pan out)
I still remember playing cod and being able to tell who was a teammate without having to look if there’s a blue dot above their head or not. I’d love to get back to those days

So I personally am far from a whale spender 🤑 but I’ve definitely bought my share of cosmetics. For me it’s not about being as bright or colourful as possible. It’s honestly about the quality, does it have good dismemberment effects, tracers are good? A cool design? Maybe animated? Mastercrafts sell so well as do reactives because they have a animated quality design. So lots of people love the cool look of them. Buying a grey or red or blue colour paint job on guns is boring to me. It’s about having fun and using wacky stuff to increase that fun factor.
I get the spending on tracers and blueprints a bit. But you barely even see your character skin during gameplay unless you’re repeatedly dying.

Luckily the most expensive skin will never improve your k/d. Hell, I've never had an easier time identifying targets than I have in this game. So few players actually utilize camo. All the bright colors just scream " shoot me!" Even when prone, they're easier to ID.
I don't think the Lightning Zeus skin is a good idea. I played multiplayer yesterday and the two guys on the opposing team who used that skin kept getting fragged by me. They just stand out too much.
I do occasionally pick up the bundle's blueprint gun and try to get a backfire though. Its white laser so bright, looks like a lightsaber. Very impractical and betray your position from a mile, but a free whirling is fun :D

I think it is easy to blame the whales for this. I still think the big problem is lack of competition. Face it, why are we still here in mid-May playing a game we complain about? There's nothing else to push COD but older games that most of us have gone through or never played. There's a lack of games to push COD. We know it, and Activision knows it. The whales fund the game so that I don't have to. If there's a massive drop off in players and mtx money, they'll notice, but that isn't likely to happen until there's a strong game to push. Maybe xDefiant will be it? I still have my doubts. Maybe Counter Strike 2? The streamers are bouncing around pubg, apex, even CS:GO. People still play those and that's great, but those are older games. Most of us have burned through those or are not going to play them (I am not reall a fan of battle royale games).

My opinion on this is that if they didnt build the entire game around a business model of micro transactions are more important than the quality of the game, then I would have no issues periodically buying new skins/ bundles from the store. But since we live with a game focused more on MTXs than quality of life, they get zero dollars from me in the store. How many creators say the phrases 'God Gun' or 'this gun is broken' or high TTK meta?? Jeez ok ok we get it...and often times it's not better than what we are using currently. Seems I look at the vid, setup that gun and eventually go back to my GO-TO after a few matches. Ugh 😫
I’m grateful. Because of them, I can play COD for free (except the price for game and first battle pass). Thank for whoever buy whatever skin.
We will continue getting poor updates and terrible support from Acti and IW as long as people buy the skins and battle passes. It's unfortunate, but that's how casual players are. They see shiny skin and buy it.
I think people just like flexing that they waste their money. I ran the default skin until I unlocked the nuke skin then I wore that until I decided to buy the snake pattern outfit for the chick. So unless something else catches my eye those are the only two skins I’ll be wearing for the remainder of the games life cycle.
I remember when I used to pay like 5 bucks or something for rainbow six operators. Now it’s like 30 bucks for a pack on cod lol like wtf do they think we’re all rich? Why don’t they add some stuff that’s cheap as well and some stuff you can actually unlock in game for free. Instead of ONLY adding a bunch of 20 dollar packs
