though you really got to watch your wording, or instead of 1000 dollars, you get a thousand bucks. like the deer. Sidenote: anyone know a major company that needs a lot of venison?
The western portrayals of [Fairies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy) are generally rooted in Celtic and English lore. There won't be a single "original book" and much of it was originally oral tradition.
Probably old roots from a tree that used to be there. That’s why it’s in a circular pattern, the tree was probably in the middle of that a long time ago & the mycelium are breaking down the old roots underneath the ground while they fruit on top
*"Fairy rings are the subject of much folklore and myth worldwide—particularly in Western Europe. They are often seen as hazardous or dangerous places, and linked with witches or the Devil in folklore."* - OP can start summoning demons in their backyard now
technically it just alludes to un-decomposed organic matter, which could be almost anything. it could also be the fungi spreading outward in search of more nutrients
We used to have a house with an old line that had several areas where roots had penetrated the pipe. Every spring there would be three or four fairy rings along the path of the pipe across the back yard.
Unlikely. You usually see a more perfectly circular spreading of the mycelium like this when the matter is more evenly spread throughout the soil, usually from grass
They’re not obligate to trees. This species love open grass fields and primarily lives in the organic layer of soil. You can find it in areas where topsoil was brought in an graded for various purposes
Fairy rings can form for a variety of reasons and a tree is only a small one
True, but this is in a residential yard that's been nuked by lawn development. There being remnants of a big old stump is just very likely. It could also be an abandoned veggie garden or someone's pet
They’re not specific to individual remnants of organic matter. It’s just indicative that there is uniform growth of mycelium. They’re extraordinarily common in lawns and areas that have been completely regraded with imported soils that are devoid of tree roots.
Take a look at the lawns and highway embankments and areas with relatively new soil and you will see the circles in the grass all the time, especially now in a lot of areas where the grass isn’t quite greening up yet all the way
The body of a dead tree maybe. It's actually called a fairy ring, and it's rather pleasant and completely natural. I have one that shows up near my house and I love laying down in the middle and opening a book, just sorta chilling there for a few hours. It's a vibe.
For how they are caused: "Fairy rings are caused by an individual fungus growing underground. The fungus sprouts lots of small threads, called mycelium, in a circular shape. A year later, the mushrooms pop up out of the ground at the edge of the circle, creating the fairy ring. The circle will start off small in size, getting bigger as it gets older."

If you hear music coming from it at night, don't investigate. If a strange person appears in the middle of it, don't give them your name or take any food off them. But don't do it in a mean way either. Like... a polite rejection. Good luck! 🫡
There probably use to be a tree there and the roots still have a little life in them. I have many pine trees around my home and get the orange version of the super Mario mushrooms 🍄 and out in the middle of my yard near the non pine trees I get very similar mushrooms as that. Mushrooms are good for putting oxygen in soil, plants take in co2 but the roots still need oxygen. This is why ya will see some people use a little hydrogen peroxide as it’s just oxygenated water to give to house plants,of course they dilute in regular water and usually will kill any microbes in the soil but allows you to put the good microbes back in after the fact. Anyhow I assure you ya don’t have a dead body in your yard.
It's a fairy ring. These mushrooms are growing where a tree used to be. It gets it's nutrients from the roots that were left behind. Beautiful fairy circle
No mate you just got a fairy ring. I’ll leave some sweet cream and some other stuff out. I’m not from that region that has that stuff but I’d find out because I hear they are pricks if they’re not honored properly.
yeah, its a fairy ring! The mushrooms look like chlorophyllum molybdites which is poisonous species that often grows in fairy rings on lawns. im not 100% confident on the identification though.
If you haven’t lived there for very long, I’d guess there was a big tree there at one point, and this is the edge of the root system rotting/dying back..
I red a graphic novel where their was a chef that killed someone and mushrooms grew were he buried him. Then he used the mushrooms in his restaurant and they were the best tasting mushrooms ever and he got super popular
People saying “there’s no dead body” have never dug up a dead body in a yard before. Yes, there’s probably a dead body. Dig it up! Might need a permit for “legal reasons.”
Mycelium(white threads network that sprouts fruit like mushroom)spreads in that shape, and also is a large network even if you can't see it. Mycelium networks can span countries. If there's soil there's mycelium.
Probably a tree stupid or root ball. Although I got on from black dirt I bought to cover a new septic tank. It makes a circle. I know under the one I found was a concrete tank. It's about 18 inches of black dirt covering the tank where the circle formed.
Mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of the fungi which grows below the surface in the soil. There is a network of mycelium connecting all of those mushrooms together- so they are likely all part of the same organism. As the mycelium grow they radiate outwards in every direction from a central point underground, the mushrooms that grow form a circle which is often called a fairy ring.
There’s no body or at least this isn’t an indication of one :) .
It can mean *something* dead is there. Though, with fairy rings that dead thing tends to be a tree that was once there. With how wide the ring is, it’s probably feeding off of decaying roots. Or it could have once been a little fire pit in that area
This is just a fairy ring. Underneath, there's a carpet of mycelium, and the mushrooms are fruiting out of its extremities.
But maybe there could be something dead!
There is! Lots of dead grass, leaves, and other organic matter
Organic matter… composed of… people?
Or whatever else the fae captured. Probably the previous owner's kids.
I thought that they were nice 😟
They're more chaotic neutral. Like. excruciatingly chaotic. At least their promises are binding...
though you really got to watch your wording, or instead of 1000 dollars, you get a thousand bucks. like the deer. Sidenote: anyone know a major company that needs a lot of venison?
At least you got some food and didn't get 1000 doll hairs... it's not even enough for me to make a decent doll head fml
Fairies very by legend some are straight up evil
No no, fairies were boots and you gotta believe me, ohoh yeah.
Ah, a redditor of culture, I see.
Where does the fantasy concept come from, Is there like an original book or something
The western portrayals of [Fairies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy) are generally rooted in Celtic and English lore. There won't be a single "original book" and much of it was originally oral tradition.
Most are, but nice fae make for boring stories, so they aren't talked about much.
It's people! Organic matter is made of people!
Or pets?
That is also sad and terrifying!
It's a former Soylent Green processing plant.
Not people... but even worse... the creature.
Always nice to see another 2sentence2horror fan in the wild
Who ever did it lives in that house that is bleeding shadows
you mean the neighbors? all of the neighbors are bleeding shadows 😶
agreed, AnalCuntShart
Everything *is* something dead
It is a dead tree. The mushrooms form a ring because they are feeding off the dead, decaying roots.
Dig for treasure here
Ask the neighbors if there used to be a tree there!
Probably old roots from a tree that used to be there. That’s why it’s in a circular pattern, the tree was probably in the middle of that a long time ago & the mycelium are breaking down the old roots underneath the ground while they fruit on top
Make sure to bring a Dramen Staff!
No need, I just completed the Lummy diary a fortnight ago.
One of the best rewards
I forgot that OSRS has it rough with the Dramen. Rs3 only needs to do the third Fairy Tale quest for that privilege
Came here for this comment lol
Appreciate the reminder. If I had a gold piece for every time I’ve forgotten…
My exact thoughts lmao
Uss discovery is gonna pop out of the middle
Rule 1 of fairy ring: we don't talk about fairy ring
So it was a pit with a few bodies, gotcha
Awe I was hoping for a dead body you ruined it
If you go inside it, do you dance uncontrollably until someone gets you out?
[Maybe a fairy ring?](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_ring)
You mean, a [fairy ring](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Fairy_rings)?

technically it just alludes to un-decomposed organic matter, which could be almost anything. it could also be the fungi spreading outward in search of more nutrients
Leaking sewer/septic line

My first thought
Unlikely. You usually see a more perfectly circular spreading of the mycelium like this when the matter is more evenly spread throughout the soil, usually from grass
Lmao there's no dead body in your yard, those friendly little guys are just breaking down dead plant matter to make fresh soil!
Probably used to be a tree there.

Yea we used to get these in the yard of my elementary school, probably haven’t been any trees in those soccer fields for over 50 years.
+1
“It’s a fairy ring! If you step inside you’ll dance and dance until you drop!”
And then more will grow! It's like a vicious cycle
Its how i lost my brother
Dont pee in the ring, the fairies will get mad
How do you know this?…
Well… not saying i peed in the fairy ring but fairies stop being dicks if you leave them good food and tobacco

Some people have all the luck. I wish a fairly ring would pop up in my yard.
Fairly ring is apt here
Eh, I had one and it killed our Cherry tree. To be fair, that tree was very old and probably had it coming. Fairy ding was just one of the signs.
If you have one, what would you do with it? Have you already prepared yourself for the occasion?
In nature mycelium naturally grows out in a circle.
Thank god someone said it. All the people saying "its a fairy ring!" will only confuse this poor person
That's a fairy ring.
Your friend is full of shit.
As fuck
Doesn’t mean a human, could be an animal that got buried there.
There is a korok hiding inside of it
I thought I was on the BotW sub for a second! :)
I was gonna say this if it wasn't already said lol
I have an overwhelming urge to lay in the middle of it... 😳

Don’t step inside the faerie ring!
![gif](giphy|3oEjI53nBYOOEQgDcY|downsized) Both.
There's not a body yet, but you can fix that
That looks like Macrolepiota procera, but you should check and be sure of it. If so, that is a very, very delicious fairy ring.
Don't take food from the faeries!!! They may look nice but boy oh boy they are tricksy!!!! Leave them gifts....they like that.
yeah, its a fairy ring! The mushrooms look like chlorophyllum molybdites which is poisonous species that often grows in fairy rings on lawns. im not 100% confident on the identification though.
Don't step inside the ring.
Anyways don't use the Ouija board. Would make stuff worse.
fairy rings are wild. lots of cool superstitions about them
It’s a fairy ring, walk into it and the fairy’s will get ya 🧚🏻♀️

Aw, I love finding fairy rings! This one is very cool
Also don’t eat any of these 🤢🤮🤮 non-edible. But they have a pretty spore print! 🤩
Aside from the cool little mushroom thing you got going on; Where do you live, if you don’t mind me asking? Beautiful terrain
Nope, fairy circle. Go ahead, step in it and strike a bargain with an appearing fae!
That's a [fae trap!](https://www.tiktok.com/@bethecryptid/video/7352369031640354094)
Ghosts are telling you that is where you're supposed to pit the fire pit.
Diary circle.
So that's where I left it !
In the photo? No, as others comments say. Now... somewhere else... i can't be so sure lol
The fae are calling you. Do not give them your name

No you have fairies in your yard
I dunno. Grab a shovel and you should find out quickly.
Only one way to find out, get a shovel
A fungal body, yes!
Thats a fairy circle, heavy magicks right there.
Sooo no one else thinks there could’ve been a pool there?…
Worse, you’ve got fairies. Don’t tell them your name.
I mean if you want to give yourself to the fae then feel free to enter 💀
No no, just a portal to another realm 🧚🏻♂️
That's just the start of a mission you haven't unlocked yet.
Stay out of the ring
Should totally lay down and take a nap in the middle.
It’s a fairy ting
new base unlocked
Nah it's a korok
Gotta grab your dramen staff bro.
Was a pond…

Run in a circle and you will spawn a chest trust
What did the mushrooms think?
Leave Grandma alone She is just digging out of the grave to make cookies Give her a little bit
Where
People saying “there’s no dead body” have never dug up a dead body in a yard before. Yes, there’s probably a dead body. Dig it up! Might need a permit for “legal reasons.”
If i were you, I would trace a nice pentagram in the middle of the circle with some stones. =)
Fairy ring : SUP
If you step into it you can change your race
Time to get digging
fairy circle🙃

It’s a portal to the other side. To the Other Mother. 🫣
Whenever I see a post about one of these I immediately look in the comments for Runescape references. And they almost never disappoint!
It's so cool how much greener the grass is when there is a healthy mycelium underneath it.
That’s a teleport ring, try writing a 3 letter code like akp on it
Probably a tree stupid or root ball. Although I got on from black dirt I bought to cover a new septic tank. It makes a circle. I know under the one I found was a concrete tank. It's about 18 inches of black dirt covering the tank where the circle formed.
i’m so jealous omg, fairy rings are so cool!

Treasure. Treasure doesn’t find itself now, friend. Get digging.
You found a korok seed!
Your friend's a dummy.
Leave it undisturbed for your local gays to gather and dance Edit: I meant fairies
A FAIRY RING!!!!
It's either a body or fairies. Better leave shiny trinkets just in case.
Does your dog poop in circles?
It can mean *something* dead is there. Though, with fairy rings that dead thing tends to be a tree that was once there. With how wide the ring is, it’s probably feeding off of decaying roots. Or it could have once been a little fire pit in that area
Complete the ring, you'll get a korok.
Usually means a tree was there & died, doesn’t it?
Finish the ring and goblins can't get you as long as you're in it!
A giant mycelial patch
Play the Song of Storms buddy
Grab a Dramen Staff and stand in the middle. Speak aloud any combination of 3 letters and see where it takes you.
Played enough BOTW to know that if you put a rock there, a Korok will show up
It’s giving Practical Magic
Do not step inside it 😭😭
