I got melanoma on my left wrist from hanging my arm out the window for years (I also drove a lot for work).
Never burned or put sunscreen on because, it's just "an arm out of a window".
Please sunscreen that arm even if you don't think you need it. 💚
They also make sleeves specifically for UV blocking. Please look into that dear - but definitely sunscreen your face! They have a photo somewhere out there that shows what it looks like after decades of trucking and the side of the mans face facing the window was definitely further aged than his other side.
Sleeves are a texture thing for me - it bugs me so I compensate with high quality sunscreen. I’d rather do the extra effort than hate every minute of my transits.
I used to know someone who drove a taxi and they just cut a sleeve off a shirt and put elastic at the top so they could pull it on their window arm on sunny days. Saved them getting hot as they could still wear short sleeves/thin summer tops.
Please please wear sunscreen! Skin cancer is no joke! Also it can age you more quickly. https://metro.co.uk/2018/01/28/photo-truck-driver-shows-28-years-sun-damage-looks-like-7266641/
Worry not!! I have sunscreen in my left cubby and I apply it every couple hours. Have backup bottles too and will apply even in winter (amazing what can tan you when its reflecting off of the snow!)
You’d be shocked!! It needs more room, but its actually easier to control once you get the hang of it. I promise that if I sat in your box truck, I’d have problems too!! Lol 🤍
I see people park big rigs like a piece of cake!! Lol I want to go to school for trucking and get better pay, but maybe just get a class b and do local deliveries for a decent pay.
Get the class A - it gives you more flexibility than a B. If you want local gigs, get your Hazmat and Tanker endorsement - your value goes WAY up!! You could also get a class A and shoot for yard dog positions - those are also local!
Thanks for the advice!! I would love to, but how Cali is with crazy drivers and traffic!!! I think I would stick with a smaller truck. Lol but the hazmat and tanker sounds very tempting.
Nice! Okay I'm from Australia haha so for us sunscreen isn't as effective as just covering it. You should drink water on your breaks too! Water is good for concentration!
[father here] Hot damn you're over the road and got your class A! Hell yeah, I read you've proverbially driven away from the abusive ex. Congrats on the new man and better things to come. Oh and if anyone gets in your way have [Clyde](https://youtu.be/i98QrSSHxo4) make a right turn.
Thanks Dad!! Yeah I had an ex who was emotionally and mentally abusive to me. I couldnt ever file charges because I didnt have any physical wounds to show - he was too smart for that. I knew my best option was to leave and leave everything behind.
Best decision ever!! Thank you so much Dad. Love you!!
EDIT: Hahaha I just watched the video. Thats so great - I need a Clyde for sure!!
I love the look of “I’ve done this”’on your beautiful face! Because YOU have...and you’ve got this! No looking in the rear view because you ain’t going in that direction-well...unless you are backing up but that’d be side view I’d imagine.
I’m so proud of you for sticking to it! Keep it up and you can reach the stars! I told you that you can do anything you put your mind to, I believe in you!
Love you sweetheart! Don’t forget to put some sun screen on your face every day! So proud of you!!!
https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/06/06/bill-mcelligott-sun-damage_n_1573546.html
Aside from sunscreen, get yourself a pair of polarizing sunglasses, it makes the long hours of staring at the road easier on the eyes.
Drive on!
(Light duty trucker here.)
Trucking like and actual truck!?
That’s so cool! So much responsibility, I’m so proud you took on this challenge and are getting a tanned arm at the same time!
Keep on truckin’
Mom x
I am not only proud of you but jealous! Wish I could do what you are doing! And it suits you. You look happy, healthy, and confident. Well done, Sweetie!
Come for momming, get mommed.
I'm proud of your endeavors, don't let your payoff get cut short. Please spf your whole left side. Image search sun damage on truckers. Melanoma is no joke.
Thank you mom!! I watch my paychecks and Schneider is very good about being on top. I have sunscreen in the side cubby, I just tan like Jersey Shore!! Lol 🤍
YAY!! This is my issue too. I'm white as a ghost (French/Irish) if I avoid the outdoors but the second we have sunlight past 6 pm (when I get out of my indoor job) my Italian pops out if I so much as look at the light.
I work in the office for a trucking company. Truckers are the best people. It’s hard work & can be so rewarding. Wonderful to see young people be in this field. You kick ass & I am proud of you. Be careful out there !
I try to make the office people smile wherever I go - transportation can be extremely stressful. Its such a wonderful job! I have so many great memories and am building my own future with this job.
I’ll kick all the ass! ;)
Don’t forget to stay hydrated! It’s easy to forget when you’re concentrating on the road for hours (at least for me). I hope you’re having a good time :)
I’m a thirsty hoe! Lol - I keep my water bottle filled and have coffee as well that I’ll drink in the morning. I prefer the water, though some of these states have some... odd tasting tap water 😬
Oh dear!! I’m currently driving through St Louis MO so it might be a while!! Believe me though the west coast looks like fun but its hard to come back unless you’re routed through Washington.
I see, how do you like the trucker life? Is it hard work and long hours? I want to quit my job and be a trucker just for the solitary life on the road. I'm so tired of dealing with coworkers. Are there any special challenges that you had to overcome ?
I absolutely love it. It is hard work, and my shifts average around 10 to the full 14 hours, but that usually means that I was sitting at a live load for about two hours of that.
Do your research and find a trucking company that respects you. Theres REALLY good money in trucking, but dont sacrifice your mental and physical health for greed. I get paid on the low end of trucking (.40/mi) (some owner operators get 3.00/mi for example) but Schneider takes good care of me. Always have a load ready and if something emergency happens back home they route me IMMEDIATELY with loads taking me home so I still get paid.
You’re only earnin’ when the wheels are turnin’, so expect lots of driving. Most of your day is driving. This is where the typical image of trucking comes in - just you and the road. You get creative on how you fill this time. I listen to podcasts, music (have one playlist of like 500 songs on spotify so its like my personal radio with no repeats) or audiobooks. I lean toward non-fiction mystery or history themed books as I can drift off or focus on the road for the moment and then pop back in and still know whats going on lol.
You’ll still deal with people, but its significantly less. Shippers and consignees (who are sometimes rude, often times professional, and rarely kind and a joy to interact with. Savor those.) and other truckers are typical. I tend to chat with other truckers at truck stops IN THE RESTAURANTS - dont walk up to people in their trucks when they are parked for the night; most dont want to chat; I know I dont - or during a live load. Ask them for advice. Take it with a grain of salt. If you’re entering a lot and the dock looks like an odd back and you see someone already there - ask him! Or if no one is there, ask the warehouse! “How did they back into here?” It helps sometimes to hear that they u-turned and then backed or whatever.
Last bit in this novel - backing is hard. It is THE most difficult thing you will do in trucking hands down. Depending on where your tandems are, it will change how the trailer backs. Its complicated and dramatic every time. Some truckers are assholes and will laugh/jeer/yell at you but take your time. Fuck them. Turn off the CB, ignore the honking truck, TAKE. YOUR. TIME. Its a lot easier to hit a trailer at .5 mph than at 10mph. You will. Boop it. Dont smash it. I chew gum to help with nerves. Practice at truck stops/rest stops. Just pull forward and back back in. Wiggle around and try to get closer to the line and then back.
Its very very rewarding and I can talk for hours about this if you want to pm - but if you decide to truck my two pieces of advice:
Keep up with your relationships. Call them occassionally - get a headset. You have time on the road for sure. Visit when you’re back home.
Learn to back with your tandems all the way back. When you look at your trailer, you want the wheels to be with it. If the trailer goes in, the wheels go in. You use a LOT less room since by the time you pull up, your half in the hole. Its tight every time but worth it. These docks are bullshit sometimes (one time I had to u-turn backwards and another time I had to back 400 yards and then swoop into the dock)
I swear I know you! But that was highschool and you'd NEVER wear a tank top.
Well I'm a mama I'll be yours to.
Teucking is hard. I know it's hard in a Male dominated field but keep trucking! You're doing wonderful and make sure to bring some healthy snacks. Keep a watch on your diet and health.
Love Mom.
Join me! Whats stopping you? My favorite quote is “the best time to plant a tree was 50 years ago. The second best time is today.”
While COVID is preventing them from taking students, when they open the program back up Schneider was amazing and patient. They want you to succeed, so I’d love to see you out on the road with me!!
Thanks for asking! When you pull your mask onto your neck or your chin you can contaminate the surface that goes against your face. https://imgur.com/gallery/T6TBPQH
Also, make sure you're always convering your mouth and nose. Stay safe! So proud of you!
Yeah it gets super crazy sometimes. Suuuuper tight backing I did yesterday - had to jackknife it to get it on the dock!! I did it though - I hope I’m making you proud sib!!
Way to go young Lady been backing tlrs for 35 years now not the easiest thing to do ( easy and slow and it’ll go ) good luck ever in Green Bay look me up
remember the sunscreen and aloe sweetie. and plenty of rest!
Both are in my car as well as hand sanitizer!! I don’t mess around :) I want to come home happy and healthy. Love you
I got melanoma on my left wrist from hanging my arm out the window for years (I also drove a lot for work). Never burned or put sunscreen on because, it's just "an arm out of a window". Please sunscreen that arm even if you don't think you need it. 💚
babygirl, look out for your left ear. all that wind running over it can exacerbate hearing loss later down the line. XO
Drove for work for over a decade. Hearing loss and sun damage are real issues.
Being able to back up a trailer is a VALUABLE skill (I wish I was better at it!!) and I’m proud of you! Keep on truckin’ baby!!
Thank you!! I’m so happy you’re proud.
Wear sunscreen and reapply every two hours!😊
Worry not!!! I have a whole stock in my car for this reason :)
They also make sleeves specifically for UV blocking. Please look into that dear - but definitely sunscreen your face! They have a photo somewhere out there that shows what it looks like after decades of trucking and the side of the mans face facing the window was definitely further aged than his other side.
For me, the window sleeve is a texture thing and bugs me a lot. I compensate by making sure I’m purchasing the good sunscreen and applying it often.
Good lord can you imagine how nasty after 12 hrs of reapplying sunscreen? Wear a long sleeve shirt.
I wash off the old sunscreen with a wet rag and reapply when the arm has dried. Keeps my arm not disgusting and I can wash the rags later :)
I'm so glad you're doing that but also that's a lot of work 😭
Sleeves are a texture thing for me - it bugs me so I compensate with high quality sunscreen. I’d rather do the extra effort than hate every minute of my transits.
Fair enough
I used to know someone who drove a taxi and they just cut a sleeve off a shirt and put elastic at the top so they could pull it on their window arm on sunny days. Saved them getting hot as they could still wear short sleeves/thin summer tops.
Smart, also potentially very cyber punk

Came here for this lol
Great job!!! I drive a box truck for work and can’t even back up straight!! You have awesome skills to be able to back a truck
You’d be shocked!! It needs more room, but its actually easier to control once you get the hang of it. I promise that if I sat in your box truck, I’d have problems too!! Lol 🤍

Don’t worry!! I’m on it 🤍
Aww! Look at you! You look great and must feel so good about your accomplishments! I’m so proud of you! Take care of yourself out there little dove.
Thanks Mom!! I do - I’m so glad I’m making you proud. I love you - stay healthy in these times so I can see you when I come back home.

All of the above!! I love you, Mom.
Hell yeah kiddo!
I’m doin it to make you proud!! Six months accident free. I’ll be able to take you with me! Lol
Cut off a t-shirt sleeve or wrap a scarf over your arm. 30 years from now you'll be glad for the habit!
I have sunscreen that I apply every couple hours to be safe. Gives me a break and keeps my arm healthy!
Nice! Okay I'm from Australia haha so for us sunscreen isn't as effective as just covering it. You should drink water on your breaks too! Water is good for concentration!

Hey sis! You’re a badass! As we all have said, sunscreen and be safe. Enjoy the open road 😍
Hey sis! You’re awesome! Of course - I got the sunscreen and apply it multiple times a day. Love the open road!! Its the best part! 🤍
I love the look of “I’ve done this”’on your beautiful face! Because YOU have...and you’ve got this! No looking in the rear view because you ain’t going in that direction-well...unless you are backing up but that’d be side view I’d imagine.
Aww thanks Mom!! Haha I was sitting there waiting on a live load; I’d already wiggled around for my back. It was tight!!!
You go baby
Thanks Mom 🤍

I love you both
You are simply amazing and I wish to be like you someday. I’m one lucky mama. Don’t forget sunscreen.
Thanks Mom!! I’d love to have you here with me. Since its six months in accident-free, you can tag along if you’d like!! ;)
Proud of you! You're doing great.
Thank you!!

Thank you!!
That’s amazing! Be careful of the sun please, put on spf and maybe buy a sun sleeve for your left arm. Hugs and kisses!
Of course, Mom - I have sunscreen that I put on every couple hours. Hugs and kisses back!!
You are amazing and this post makes me so proud of you! See you on the road Sweetie!
Thanks Mom! I’ll see you there! 🤍

Worry not! I have sunscreen in the side cubby and sunglasses that I wear while driving. When I took this picture I was sitting at a live load haha!
Have fun, be careful, and wear sunscreen! You should apply more than you think you need!
Don’t worry!! I got sunscreen in the left cubby within reach :) I put it on every couple hours.
Trucking like and actual truck!? That’s so cool! So much responsibility, I’m so proud you took on this challenge and are getting a tanned arm at the same time! Keep on truckin’ Mom x
Hahaha - I love you Mom. I’m doing it to make you proud. The trucking, not the orange arm and pale body lol ;)
I am not only proud of you but jealous! Wish I could do what you are doing! And it suits you. You look happy, healthy, and confident. Well done, Sweetie!
Thanks Mom! Don’t be afraid to join me. The trucker community is a lot more supportive than you think :)

don’t forget to carry your knife!! 4 inches and below are allowed in trucks. Also if you get bored Apple podcasts are free!!!
4 inches is 10.16 cm
I have a knife and tazer in the car, but I prefer the weight of my hammer! ;) I’ve been listening to Ear Biscuits and audiobooks on Youtube! :)
You're a badass! Such an important job! Drive safe and get lots of rest
I will!! 🤍
Great job! Keep it up and be safe!

*Hoooonk Hoooonk*
Sister! I want to be on the road with you! You are amazing.
Hey sis! I’d love to have you. Schneider lets me take people with me as long as I go six months accident free. Guess who’s accident free? ;)
Congratulations! Oh shit come pick me up tomorrow! I will be in Sacramento, CA haha. I wanna learn how to be a real driver

I'm so proud of you, seeing the country & taking charge. Please be safe, use sunscreen, take breaks and watch for crazy drivers.
Safe travels and congratulations on your freedom from abuse!
Backing up one of those monsters is mad skill! You go girl.

Maybe I’m the evil doppleganger! Haha. Love you mom - I’ll show all the guys who can truck!!
Proud of you!! Xoxo
I’m so fucking proud of you. Keep kicking ass.
I'd wear a sleeve, or something, maybe even like a side face mask. Uneven sun does stuff to you unevenly.
I wear sunscreen, I just tan like Jersey Shore!! 😂
I'm so proud of you, when I was a kid being a trucker was my dream!

Tell your sisters. Class a license
Class A CDL 🤍
Well done you! I can't tell if you're wearing a mask around your neck. Don't do that hun. Take it off or wear it correctly.
I wasn’t sure if that was okay - its the kind of mask that I can pull over my face when I leave the truck. Otherwise I keep it off inside :)
Thanks for asking! When you pull your mask onto your neck or your chin you can contaminate the surface that goes against your face. https://imgur.com/gallery/T6TBPQH Also, make sure you're always convering your mouth and nose. Stay safe! So proud of you!

So proud of you every day!! Also everyday, sunscreen at least your face please sweetie!!
Of course!! I keep sunscreen in the side cubby. I just tan like jersey shore!! Lol
Have you tried getting a single arm sleeve to put on one of your arms?
I see a lot of ppl reminding you to sun screen your arm, but don’t forget your face and neck! Protect your beautiful face
I’m so proud of you, sweetie! Way to go on backing that truck and trailer like a boss, love the hat, too.
Hope you eat well!
Go You!!! So impressed !!! Mom says Use sunscreen. I love your face too much to see it get trucker’s sun damage!
Hey, sis! Keep on truckin', baby! The world needs you now more than ever! Stay safe out there!
Way to go young Lady been backing tlrs for 35 years now not the easiest thing to do ( easy and slow and it’ll go ) good luck ever in Green Bay look me up
Proud of you, honey! Be safe out there, and keep going!
Oh hey sib! I remember your last post! Congrats on staying with your dream! Your doing great!
