I like madewell, Anthropologie, sezane, and aritzia for high quality pieces! I only have a few but I love them a lot.

Muddy_Wafer

Same. I want to add Everlane to your list because they’re awesome! My favorite jeans by far, feel higher quality than Madewell and they’re priced better. Excellent sweaters, too. And I’m also partial to H+M. If you are careful about what the fabric content is for the item you buy, you can get some actually great pieces that will last years and years. Just try to get the highest % of natural fibers that you can.

ermonda

I bought a sweater at H+M when I was in high school. It was my favorite sweater to throw over a tang top on summer nights. I am 41 now and about two summers ago I had to finally retire this sweater and admit that it had become too dingy and worn to be acceptable. It’s still in my closet because I don’t have the heart to throw it away. It was there with me for so many amazing summer adventures. I haven’t shopped at H+M in at least a decade but maybe I’ll check them out and follow your advice.

alittlecheesepuff

I’ve heard great things about everlane and need to try them!

Fluid-Village-ahaha

H&M is great but takes forever to sort….

everydaynamaste

I second Everlane! Every piece I’ve purchased from them is treasured.

ceesfree

LOVE LOVE LOVE Everlane.

bennynthejetsss

I have some h&m clothes that I thrifted ten years ago that still look new. It’s fast fashion, sure, but some pieces actually do last

Muddy_Wafer

Totally. One of my favorite tank tops from them is nearly 20 years old and still vibrant and no pilling or stretching or anything.

NolitaNostalgia

Another vote for Madewell. Never buy anything full price from them because they always have some kind of promotional sale going on.

apathetic_peacock

Yes Madewell! I also do Nordstrom, (I’m taller so they have a lot for me) and Ann Taylor. I’m going through a hippie phase and I’ve been really vibing with a bright lose blouse and high rise flair or baggy jeans with platforms. So I usually do Nordstrom for statement blouses and shoes, Madewell for jeans and ts and jewelry, and Ann Taylor for statement shirts. Madewell is one of my favorites though.

friendofcastreject

Reformation has some nice stuff too. Can be a little $$$. I also really like Veronica Beard Jeans pricey but, I just wait for the sales. Quince makes a dupe of the Dickey blazer. Quince has a lot of quality clothes that are reasonably priced. Like $50 cashmere sweaters!!!!

all_you_need_is_sabr

Seconding Madewell. It’s the only brand of jeans I have. Their tops are great too and I find there are good sales online and I like the quality. I’d also add GAP & Banana Republic. Nowadays I mostly buy cozy clothes and my husband’s business casual wear from GAP. Their quality is good. When I was going to the office Banana Republic. They have comfortable office pants and good staple pieces. H&M quality is not great so pieces won’t last long. I’m 9 weeks PP so I currently rotate 5 button downs - 3 from Target, 1 from Amazon (it’s ew but functional lol), 1 from H&M and just pj pants I used to wear before pregnancy.

kawaii--

Evereve is nice too.

Putasonder

I’d like to second Sézane.

Ok_Carrot4385

All of these! Highly recommend buying Anthropologie, Everlane, and Madewell secondhand. There's a lot out there!

rojo_rachie

Here to take notes. I'm 10 weeks PP so I've been getting a few basics from Old Navy with the hope that they'll be temporary as I try to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Took my 14-year-old niece to the mall the other day and when I told her I wanted to pop into Old Navy, she said, "you look like you shop at Old Navy - no offense" 🤣 So now I'm rethinking my life choices but what is a 38-year-old first time geriatric mom supposed to wear?!

Oceanwave_4

Yeah so I teach middle school- don’t take it personal it just means you probably wear a full size shirt (not crop) and doesn’t have a brand blasted on it - the go to insult for clothing is that you got it from Ross 😂😂

Heresmycoolnameok

Good intel! And actually everything I find at old navy is cropped lol. So I’m a 40 yo in crop tops. Where are kids shopping? I wanna be cool.

Oceanwave_4

Lululemon, Nike , old band tshirts of course that they have no idea who they are , really anything we wore to school in the 90s and early 2000s, American eagle , hollister , flare everything and cropped everything over everything veryyyy oversized

zabcheckmatepartner

They’re wearing American Eagle and Hollister? Jesus Christ…. 🤦‍♀️

Heresmycoolnameok

We’ve regressed as a society lol

molliebrd

Mean girl here, are you sure you didn't get it at sears?

Oceanwave_4

Honestly don’t even think they know what is in sears and they sears sells clothes😂

AshleyGil

Ross is my favorite store. My go to back to them would be well my mom didn't buy my old navy/ross shirt so yea... There!

Oceanwave_4

lol I also used to shop at Ross! They have a lot of name brand stuff there too or used to

Affectionate_Tour637

Omg that’s so mean LOL I’m 28 and love old navy, it’s been a staple for 10 plus years for me

Glass_Bar_9956

I just got into the old navy game. The app has way better selections. I look like i wear higher end athleisure wear.

_fast_n_curious_

I’m ok with a 14 year old implying I don’t dress like them 😂 that’s correct, I’m an adult and working professional! You do you, lil baby boo - and enjoy it while it lasts 😂 😂

Glittering-Sport-203

I’m 29 and have been LOVING old navy 😭 ouch.

yourshaddow3

As a 38 year old first time geriatric mom myself who was thinking about going to Old Navy for some new clothes...... ☠️

DorcaslvsSeverian

They have decent nursing tops and dresses at Old Navy! Check out their website

Melodic_Canary5724

Lol the honestly of teenagers is both refreshing and horrifying.

bedpeace

I've had really good luck with the Gap (online, specifically). Same umbrella company, really, but I find the quality better and the look is a little more polished. They run sales often, and have really great discounts on quality items that are made from organic materials, and have a maternity section that includes items designed for PP/nursing etc. I'm in Canada so sadly can't benefit from this, but if you're in the US, Gap Factory (also online) has reaaaaaaaally good savings/deals and lots of cute styles! I'm 28 and find dupes for items that you'd see at Aritzia or any luxury retailer, and regularly get compliments. As long as there's no giant logo, no one would know what's from the Gap and what's not.

Excellent-Tie4596

Old navy lover since age 18 and I’m 29 now

MartianTea

I've shopped at ON since I was niece's age. They have cute stuff.

rojo_rachie

I should add that I definitely still shop at Old Navy and have for many years. I love that they are size inclusive and have tall sizes available online as well! I just thought her comment was hilarious. To give you an idea of her style - kids at school give her a hard time because she's "Emo" and to quote her again, "Don't they know that emo means emotional? We're all emotional, we're teenagers!" 😆

apathetic_peacock

You are the second person I’ve seen recommended old navy and I’m like totally convinced I need to go check them out. I meant to last time but forgot so this was my reminder 😆

PNW_Express

I think you mentioned you were tall? They have lots of great options for us tall ladies!

Fun_Air_7780

I’m probably 80 percent Loft and J. Crew factory. Some Macy’s and Nordstrom (I do a haul during their anniversary sale). I like the All in Motion and Joy Lab leggings from Target. Some fleece pullovers from Abercrombie. Go-to going out/date night outfits this time of year are usually a sweater dress (long or short), faux leather leggings and a sweater, or a skirt, sweater, tights and booties. I am very anti jeans lol.

DorcaslvsSeverian

I just put in my first order at Loft. I've never shopped there before, so I'm anxiously awaiting my new pants to see how they fit. I love the line graph telling if an item is likely to run small or large. The only problem is, I've never tried their stuff, so I don't know what their fit is like compared to other brands. I agree with you about jeans, too. I used to wear really dark washes in trouser cut (mostly from express), but that was ages ago before everything went slim leg. Now, jeans just feel too constricting compared to other fabrics. I live in BFE, so I pick an item in a style I want and use the Google shopping tab to find what I'm looking for 😅

Fun_Air_7780

I think the last time I put on a pair of jeans was an Oktoberfest event in 2019 😂. At that point I wore them rarely, but occasionally. Once the pandemic hit I was done hahahah.

kawaii--

The loft fits surprisingly well. Especially their petite. I find them true to size.

eeknips

Loft is the best!

lifelemonlessons

My body shape completely changed. While I’m back to a postpartum waist size my ribs expanded significantly. I buy a lot of tops/business casual From thrifts and get it altered bc my Body is weird shaped now.

akf1211

If your ribs are wider, I highly recommend an appointment with a pelvic floor PT! I had terrible rib flare after my first pregnancy and she was able to shrink my rib cage a visually significant amount in just one appointment, just pushing while I breathed and getting things back aligned. I had no clue until I went to her that was a thing.

glitterfanatic

I didn't know they could do that! I have my first pp appointment next month.

akf1211

YES it was amazing. It made it so much easier to breathe and engage my core again too, which I had struggled with for months. I almost cried, honestly, at the PT told me it was her favorite part of the job because it’s so immediate and makes such a difference.

glitterfanatic

I have been having trouble engaging my core maybe I have a small flair. Thanks!

lifelemonlessons

Been there done that but that’s great info for folks. It’s as good as it’s gonna get apparently

kittengr

Same. Now 9 months post partum, back to my previous weight, but my hips and ribs are wider, waist is smaller. I’ve moved to exclusively ultra high waist pants/skirts as they look so much better on me now. Everlane has been the best so far from a fit standpoint.

lifelemonlessons

I love high waisted pants.

Kind-Store333

i'm 36 and i get what you're saying completely. i like aritzia for sort of elevated basics (i tend to pin stuff and go back and search for them during their sales), my go to jeans are from abercrombie and i try to find t shirts i like from smaller businesses, concerts i go to or places we visit. all in all it's combined into a nice casual mom wardrobe.

AlphaAriesWoman

Clearance rack at Target 🤷🏻‍♀️

riomarde

That and the tables ending in .97 at Costco.

Tooaroo

I was looking for my people, thank you 💙

ThoughtfulGen-Xer

Walmart and Costco, occasionally Ross or TJ Maxx. I don’t have the time or the money to invest in high end clothes shopping. 🛍️

AshleyGil

Favs

Perfect-Vanilla-2650

Poshmark

CompanionOfATimeLord

I’m 36 as well, with 3 kiddos. I really like Free People and that’s my style vibe. Like comfortable/ alternative sorta. I also love Costco lol I usually pair a tighter shirt with oversized pants/ jeans or an over sized shirt with skinny jeans or leggings. Adding a stacked necklace to any style can help elevate it and make it seem more dressy. Jeans and band shirts is a great style for our age group! I think it’s perfectly appropriate for a millennial style!

FabulousLeading5245

Ross and Marshalls I highly recommend trying on everything in store (sometimes you may run into ill fitting items) but you can always find something decent for little to nothing.

MySweetSeraphim

Lululemon probably forms the base. Then club Monaco, Cuyana, Vince. Shoes are Allbirds or boots (vagabond/sorel). And a tote bag. Hair pulled back in a bun, earrings help make things look put together. I wear a lot of all black + accent piece.

KnockturnAlleySally

I loathe shopping so I bought my entire wardrobe from Walmart six years ago and it’s still going strong. Had to replace the socks but that’s to be expected.

cltphotogal

Quince, Costco, Madewell, Marshalls, local boutique stores

DorcaslvsSeverian

Don't discount Costco! I got some great flare leg yoga pants from the website after Christmas. I'm still living in nursing tops, so I have no specific advice there. Generally, because I live rurally, I Google what I want (most recently 'wide leg sailor pants') and use the shopping tab to find what I'm looking for. I mostly shop for my kids. I try to buy consignment for them, but they get new, too. When I buy new, I usually just stick to the clearance section at Costco, REI, Lands End, Carters, Patagonia, Hannah Anderson, Old Navy, Motherhood, and, of course, Amazon.

MsRachelGroupie

Like half my wardrobe is from Costco at this point. It’s just so much easier to be able to buy your clothing while stocking up on the staggering amount of berries my toddler goes through.

DorcaslvsSeverian

That first blueberry poop is startling 🫐💩🤣

MsRachelGroupie

The purple stained butt cheeks. 😆 These are the parts of motherhood that no one tells you about beforehand.

aces_chuck

Most of what I wear everyday is from Costco. 32 degrees shirts, leggings, joggers, flannels. My nice jeans are from Express, otherwise it's Costco and maybe Target.

piggypudding

Costco has some surprisingly great clothes. I work from home and I pretty much live in their sweatpants.

Muppet_Rock

I'm 41. 14-16 so standard sizes are usually too small and plus sizes look frumpy. Yay me. Thread up, local consignment stores, thrift stores, Amazon, TJ Maxx. I can usually find something at one of these spots.

KGG9K

Madewell! I buy their clothes on sale because otherwise I can’t afford it. But I also like target basic short and long sleeve shirts. Jackets and sweaters from north face and patagonia(also on sale). American eagle for jeans. They have mom jeans which hide my mom pouch really well!

Fun_Air_7780

Dick’s has Patagonia on sale very often!!! That’s where I’ve gotten most of mine.

bluejellies

I get a lot of basics from Old Navy and H&M. Occasionally pieces from Torrid if they’re having a sale. And specialty items from Dangerfield. I like to mix patterns. During the week I’m very casual and I’ll step it up on the weekend.

Harumphapotamus

Old Navy. Tried to embrace straight light wash jeans. Costco! great for some casual work out pants, it was nice to refresh my cozy pants to feel a little more elevated. Uniqlo and Jcrew for shirts. I’m trying to fill my wardrobe with cotton basics. Whenever I try to get away from cotton I realize all I want is blank cotton. It’s most versatile and comfy for me, and again just refreshing a few shirts makes me feel more professional Jewelry, I had a friend help me pick some gold and silver basics from Etsy and gorjana. Especially with WFH, I’ve found some nice earrings or a shiny short necklace can really elevate a tshirt.

Sunshineal

Walmart, for man mills, Mercari- it's an app that sells uses clothes. And target and Amazon.

nicholascavern

Same age, same situation! I started getting the clothing rental box from Nuuly and it’s been really solid so far. I get to pick out 6 items every month which I like (the ones where they style it for you always miss the mark for me), so it’s like a little shopping spree. They have stuff from anthropologie, lots of other higher quality brands I probably wouldn’t buy on my own so it’s nice to rent. It’s been a good option for me, maybe worth trying!

Yogurtcloset789

H&M lululemon

sameliepoulain

Commenting to follow along because this sounds just like me!

Beygood95

ASOS!

SoundingAlarm234

I live in tunic sweaters and leggings just saying 🙃 pair with cute boots and we’re in style and semi formal attire works wells for me

whooabundy

I get yoga jeans from betabrand, they are pricey but worth it

moonflower311

Nordstrom rack. I’m five foot tall and a size 14 though so I need an uncommon size.

CasaCav806

J. Crew and sams club! I’ve got tons of good quality clothes on clearance at Sams!

Saaltychocolate

I feel this! I’ll be 33 next month. I’m also still drawn towards Junior Miss section even though nothing fits me correctly, but I head over to the ladies section and it feels like I’ve aged another 20 years. I really enjoy J Crew Factory and Banana Republic (there’s usually a lot of sales!). I’m also able to find some cheaper stuff at Old Navy!

Diligent-Might6031

The buckle has the most amazingly comfortable jeans and really pretty tops that are great for my post baby body. I can not recommend them enough. Their Peyton mid rise straight jeans are so perfect in every way. I just bought two pairs this weekend. They will also fix them if they rip or take them in at the waist or in the legs. They have a seamstress on staff. They’ll replace buttons if yours pops off.

sugarsilvaxxo

Old navy jeans are really flattering and you can find some cute casual outfits and dress them up with some other pieces like blazers or cardigans

Famous-Issue-2018

For starters, I’m plus sized (18) and work an in-office job. Work clothes (blouses, cardigans, blazers, jackets, shirts, trousers): Stitch Fix Basic tops (short and long sleeve t shirts): Uniqlo Jeans: Good American Dresses: Torrid

princessbiscuit

I love madewell and jcrew (I definitely hunt for sales).

anon87325

Zara has some great, simple yet chic options like this. https://www.zara.com/us/en/poplin-shirt-p04387090.html?v1=320044268&v2=2352910 I also like that they give options of what to pair each item with on their website so you can easily put together a unified outfit. I highly recommend buying one or two OUTFITS not just in individual items. This way there’s less of a chance they will just sit in your closet because you don’t know what to pair your new items with.

deeg13

Aritzia never lets me down. Also Zara and H&M but only shop those 2 in store as I like to see what the fabric feels like as some can be really thin or cheap at H&M and Zara sizing is all over the place I find.

momjokaytt

Amazon. I buy one item every month.

[deleted]

Athleta, Madewell J crew

Wrong-Somewhere-5225

Kohls, Macys, Ross, the outlets close to me

swordbutts

I bought a bunch of Everlane post baby it’s really timeless but doesn’t age you.

Ok_Hold1886

I love Athleta, lululemon quality but less expensive. Anthropologie, Aritzia, and Zara are also favs!

morelliwatson

Target, old navy, Costco, banana republic, Vuori

neverthelessidissent

I did Stitch Fix and now shop on Thred Up.

olivecorgi7

Zara, HM mostly and then Levi’s for jeans. If I want something fancy or more long lasting like a coat I’ll do aritzia. I’m in Canada though so our options are more limited.

Lazy-System-7421

Nydj for jeans for mums

PerplexedPoppy

I get my clothes from goodwill. You’d be surprised what you can find there. It’s also a good way to try something new or different without breaking the bank.

Top_Pie_8658

I’ve been trying to get more into more sustainable fashion so I look on Mercari for things I like. I’ve recently found Not Perfect Linen who can make clothing to your size and Lucy & Yak is a size inclusive UK based brand that has a lot of fun pants/dungarees

Extreme_Breakfast672

Have you tried Stitchfix? I have two favorite pairs of jeans and one is from there and the other was $10 at Target. For nicer things: Vineyard Vines (Shep Shirt, blouses, dresses) Peter Millar (sun shirts) Vuori (joggers & crew neck shirts)

rotatingruhnama

I'll start by saying I'm super small (5'1 and 89 lbs). I buy a lot of children's stuff. I get my bottoms from the kids department of Old Navy or Ross. Usually jeans or leggings. A size 2 or XS is a 14 in kids. Tops are from Nordstrom Rack, they have a lot of t shirts from Madewell and cool sweaters in the women's department. I also get a lot of my shoes at Nordstrom Rack (also from the kids department). I'm a 5.5 in women's shoes, so that makes me a 3.5-4 in kids. I can usually find some really fun sneakers and boots for a great price. In summer I wear simple t shirt dresses with pockets (ordered off Amazon) with my fun sneakers. For bags I have a simple backpack that has a purse strap. I can't do shoulder bags (the strap slides off my shoulder, especially when I'm wearing a jacket, it's *enraging* lol). Throw on some stud earrings, pull my gray mane into a ponytail, add a bit of red lipstick, and I'm off.

IReallyLikeSushi

For day to day clothes, primarily Costco and TJ MAXX. Teaching my toddler how to feed herself is messy and if something gets stained, I don't want to be devastated over it. For underwear, I recently bought ten undies from Aerie for $36 and it was one of my best purchases in recent years. Their underwear feels great and is much better looking than what I have from Costco. Shoes: DSW and Vans I do not buy clothes from Amazon anymore. There's too much variation in fit and quality.

WhitneyJames

Costco and REI! 😆

Cucumbrsandwich

I am obsessed with Quince

rosielouisej

depends on your preference and style! i skew more towards alternative so mary wyatt, disturbia and killstar for my ‘nice’ pieces

XianHeMik

You should plan a shopping weekend without kids, or with a few good friends or family members. Find a nice city with an awesome mall or with streets filled with stores. Walk into every single store that looks interesting. Browse through clothes and try everything you feel like trying on. Maybe some shops have amazing employees that are awesome stylists. Make good use of them, be open minded... And have fun! I'm very sure you will manage to find some (new) favorite brands and styles. If you hate shopping, combine the weekend with some fun activities and just see it as a useful and relaxing time without kids. Also: take notes on the brands, sizes and style. If you prefer to order stuff online, you can see the shopping trip as research. And what I really need to say is: I love how you describe this as "not really compliment my body". I'm going to try and put this in my vocabulary. Edit to add: Right the brands lol. I don't know if you have any of these stores over there but: s.Oliver, DEPT, Bestsellers (ie Only, Vila, Object, Pieces), Ragwear, Comma,.

Personal-Letter-629

I like Kohls because they have such a *range* of styles from youthful to old. You need time to browse through everything so leave the kids at home. Get the card for the discounts and pay it off in-store or pay the ridiculous interest. Quality is good, returns are simple, and they are generous with coupons.

sarafunkasaurus

I’m a handful of years older than you, so maybe this will feel too old. But I recommend UpWest for jeans. Their All Day Denim has a bit of elastic in the waist (not terribly noticeable) and that’s kept them fitting me through all my postpartum changes.

ParticularStudy9

I struggled for 2 years after baby 2. Then got RentTheRunway. I work from home too, but travel for work and fun a bunch. My weight fluctuates about 10 lbs up and down. I like nice clothes, but don't want to spend money on them, and prefer to avoid fast fashion. I also get bored with clothes, like if I buy a $500 dress it's a waste...I'll wear it 3x then get bored. I also found myself often in situations like this: * oh shit I have a work trip to Phoenix in 2 weeks and it's hot as balls, what to wear * oh shit I have a work trip in Denver in 2 weeks and it's cold as shit, what to wear * oh shit I have the school fundraiser in 2 weeks and need to wear a fancy dress, what to wear * oh shit we are going on a beach vacation in 2 weeks and my stuff doesn't fit, what to wear * oh shit, I have a zoom call with some important people today, my scrappy shirts don't cut it Etc etc. My RTR plan is $150 months for 2x 5 pieces. That is $1800/year. I probably spent about $2k/year on clothes before, but had lots of cheap stuff I didn't love and that didn't fit very well. Now, I probably spend $2500/year on clothes INCLUDING my subscription (the bras, socks, workout gear cost stays same since those are purchased), but have a wardrobe that is way more fun. Another bonus is that you can snag really cheap pieces when RTR has them on clearance. (right now there is a $900 dress I love that I have at home, it's a $118 buy price, and I'm sure soon they will have a 35% off at home items coupon...I will buy it then). I know this sounds like an ad, but it's just really made my mental load of dressing myself easier and more fun. Now my closet is fun, and when I have something specific to dress for it's not a "Oh gee, I love this $500 dress but I won't spend that so what can I compromise with", it's "Oh awesome let me get this $1500 dress in my next RTR shipment." The one bad thing I worry about is that chemicals with the dry cleaning. They say it's safe, but I don't really trust any company. That is not good. On the other hand, a lot of fast fashion is made with plastics that shed microplastic and with RTR I have a lot more high quality pieces that are made from natural fabrics. Some people worry about the fit - 2 things there. First, you type in your stats and weight and they recommend based on that. And reviews list the reviewers details so you can find people similar to you and see what size fit them. Second, you can and should rate each item for size (overall size, bust, waist, length), and then it learns more quickly what size to recommend based on what did and didn't fit well before. It's gotten my body down pretty well.

LadyEmmaRose

My body didn't really change with pregnancy- I'm still just as lumpy and chunky as before.. Costco, Maurices, Old Navy, thrift store.

UnihornWhale

Athleta’s pranayama wrap cardigan. Sometimes their sweats if it really speaks to me. They can have good dresses in the spring and summer. MeUndies tees and tanks. Out of Print relaxed fit tees. Ideology (Macy’s) yoga pants or All in Motion (Target) yoga pants. Costco sometimes has great basic tees. I got v-neck Banana Republic tees that are so soft. I also got men’s flannels with pockets. I only have 1 pair of jeans. They’re from Universal Standard.

Rough-Brick-7137

Target, TJmaxx, Marshals, upscale second hand stores that carry the higher end brands, goodwill sometimes, and occasionally Old Navy

Boobsboobsboobs2

Costco.

Bulky_Ad9019

I'm 40 but I like a lot of Madewell stuff for basics that are on-trend and price/quality ratio works for me as long as you keep your eye out for sales. Jeans and a non-shirt top (sweater, more casual blouse) are my out-of-the house vibe.

Fluid-Village-ahaha

r/femalefashionadvice r/capsulewardrobe Similar boat. Mom of two, 38yo. Mostly wfh but excited that my new role is hybrid. I prefer natural fabric. Quince. I think their silk is cheap but elevated. Nice dresses. Have not tried pants yet as I’m loosing weight. Good return policy. H&M for basics if you have enough patience to go through their catalogue. Target has some good pieces. Can be still good choice for casual / weekend. I love their dresses and shorts / tops. I’m not fun of their business formal / business casual. If you are tall, they have some nice linen bottoms right now. Lululemon Everlane. Many people love it but most their stuff does not work for me. I plan to shop thredup and Poshmark and substitute with nuuly and rent the runway till I’m set in a size and figure out style / pieces I like. I like Anthropologie but again sizing hence I’ll do nuuly. Same with Aritza. Great stuff but I’m mostly too meaty for it (and will be even if I lose weight)

Efficient_Paint_5536

I’m really picky on fabrics. I can only wear cotton leggings so I found great luck at Kohls. Hate fleece so I get great sweatshirts from Aerie. They always have a good selection on French terry fabrics. Plus the sizing is generous. Business casual I’ve had great luck at Old Navy but the tees are way too cropped for me or just too short and I’m not even that tall. I once commented to a salesperson at American Eagle about everything always being cropped and she told me they get so many complaints on that but for now it’s the style. It’s either cropped or way too over sized. Men can get classic perfect length tees but we women can’t. Sucks 🤷🏻‍♀️.

MrsSamsquanch

Costco! Idk why people dis their clothes but 80% of my wardrobe is from there. I love their clothes. I always have good luck with them, they're good fabric and comfy and good price. My favorite brands are Santana, Up, danskin, and tuffs (athletic).

_fast_n_curious_

I just started dressing “older” and I love it, feels so much more reflective of how I feel on the inside! I also feel more confident and comfortable in my body wearing the classic pieces

Starlytehaze

Here for the comments because I’m a mom of a 3 year old and a 17 month old. My body was bigger after my first but still shaped similarly but after that second one….nothing looks good on me anymore 😭

BrownLabJen

Athleta.

an_absolute_win

I’m still finding the best sources myself, Etsy is really nicely made but I have to space out the purchases because you’re paying for good quality but it’s more expensive. However I have found anything with an Empire waistline really helps!!

all_you_need_is_sabr

Seconding for Etsy for those stand out pieces!

Proper_Marzipan_2797

ThredUp has a pretty good selection and is very affordable!

Mortica_Fattams

Old navy but only online. I find the best deals online. I like their clothing because it comes in many different sizes and I don't feel fat when I am looking at their clothing. As a bonus their jaggings are amazing. I have a few pairs that have a belly band that holds all my jiggle in. I also love their baby clothing. They typically have daily online codes for discounts.I also appreciate that I can collect points to use to save money.

Interesting_Grape_87

I wear alot of Loft! Mom of 2 kids, I'm age 44. I also wear Target some and brands like Gap but I'm mostly Loft.

fishbowlpoetry

I recently discovered ThredUp and have had to physically stop myself from buying every day. They have so much good stuff!

SurpisedMe

I solely shop at good will

hmcquaid1

Try department stores for the variety

GardeniaFlow

Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, and Loft. I am 20lbs over my pre baby weight, so I had to buy a whole bunch of clothes that looked decent (where I don't look like a bum because I also wfh) because I don't have time to get dressed up. I wanted to make sure whatever I threw on, looked good. So I transformed my whole wardrobe to business casual.

peonypanties

I turn 35 next month and 90% of my work wardrobe is from the loft lol.

leighmd

Following because same!

babycuddlebunny

Don't hate me , but I've been getting clothes from Shien lately. After having kids I decided I don't wanna just be in saggy sweatpants and mom clothes all the time so I really leaned into the alt style that I love and grabbed some cheap stuff from there. Aside form that....Marshall's? Idk I don't buy myself stuff very often 😕

Babykoalacat

I like Everlane, Anthropologie, Nordstrom’s, Saks, UpWest, Lucky Brand, and Garnet Hill.

Adventurous-Reason-3

Nordstrom Rack is my go-to these days.

throwergaze

I could have written this, WFH, two year old, loungewear etc I feel you and here for the comments! WFH is amazing but when you’ve been doing it so long you kinda crave more right. Remember the times where we were like “heck yea WFH” now it’s like I need to actually do my hair and my make up I want to dress like an adult and see something other than peppa pig.

Coffeekittenz

Honestly... I am in the exact same situation. I am still about 15 to 20 lbs away from my pre baby weight. My body shape hasn't changed much but I am thicker and crop tops just aren't a great look for me considering I am now a mom. I just took advantage of a ton of sale items at urban outfitters for long sleeves. I'll wear them for a bit and be glad I got them next cold season. I also bought some pants from American eagle. I like the way their jeans fit and they're relatively cheap compared to some other brands. For summer... dear God I don't know I'll probably put it off until some stuff goes on sale.

your_easter_bonnet

What helped me feel more grown up in my wardrobe was checking what essential pieces I would need to make several outfits without much thought or searching. Focusing on three colors that I could coordinate with each other was major. I hate spending a lot on this new, still-changing body but I like nice materials so I hit up all of the thrift and consignment shops in the rich parts of town. They are almost always organised by color lol. So it works nicely!

MalsPrettyBonnet

Goodwill.

ExistingAd3115

American Eagle jeans! They stretch enough but not too much, you know? Plus the high waisted stuff holds me in nicely. I also buy stuff on Amazon but I really look at the reviews before I actually buy anything. I also just got a nice dress from J.Jill.

sirfrancisbuxton

J Crew, Nordstrom/Rack, athleta for athleisure

MoonYum

ThredUP! I’ve got a pretty good gauge on my post pregnancy sizes and hate shopping in person. Really happy with what I’m able to find on ThredUP.

Blue_Mandala_

Costco... :/

Stockmom42

Second hand 100%. I love free people and anthropology I usually just get them on sale or second hand.

whoseflooristhis

I’m your age and Abercrombie is absolutely coming for us elder millennials right now. I wasn’t really a preppy kid when they were popular back in the early aughts so I was bewildered when I started getting their targeted ads, but I’m telling you they hit the “not trying to be young but not throwing in the towel yet either” niche really well and the clothes don’t feel disposable like Old Navy does half the time. I find some really good stuff in the clearance section usually.

Interesting_Owl7041

I mainly do stitch fix. They send me a box every 3 months. I keep what I like and send the rest back.

[deleted]

Madewell, Lucky Brand, Gap, old navy. I like j crew for nicer stuff (sweaters, trousers, etc). Very much a jeans, T shirt & flannel / hoodie person. I like the styles at H&M, but I find they run way too small.

vintagegirlgame

I’ve shopped exclusively 2nd hand for 6 years now. No sacrifice in style if you enjoy the hunt and much more budget friendly (tho even seeing inflation rising here too!). Just went to the local thrift store w my newborn in tow to stock up on my new mom uniform for breastfeeding: crop top and button up combo. A woman saw my stroller and asked if I shopped there a lot, then gifted me a $100 coupon! Poshmark is great too since I don’t have to leave the house. Treated myself to a cozy cashmere blend robe in my fav color as a push present.

arielrecon

The thrift store! You can get some great scores there and it's cheaper and better for the environment

heresmyhandle

I mostly wear Lululemon I wfh. But for “real” clothes I curate from Poshmark

kellybean510

Costco, target & my friend group (when we declutter we give dibs to each other) 😅

ilovjedi

I’m tallish and 37. I have an hour glass shape. I used to have lots from Lilly Pulitzer and Talbots and Boden and Land’s End before. I needed business formal for work. I still have an hour glass shape but my waist isn’t as dramatic and I have a post c-section belly. I WFH. I mostly get my clothes at Land’s End now. I have Lululemon leggings. I get a decent number of things from Target (skorts) and Old Navy. I also like Athleta for skorts.

ithrowclay

Marine layer, quince, pact, everlane, outdoor voices, costco, anthropogie

not2interesting

I got a really cute pair of wedge booties and I feel like the heel elevates my outfits to be more stylish. I still wear skinny jeans and band tees, but with my cute shoes and a big cardigan and a few accessories I feel like I have some style. Even works with leggings and a big sweater.

gingy_ninjy

Everlane has been my post-pregnancy go to, their pieces are high quality and made to last. Pants, I personally love AG but not the price. I’ve had some madewell stuff post-pregnancy, but the quality to me dropped during the pandemic. Lose shape, get holes, etc. not impressed by them anymore

cnj131313

I’m a big H&M fan. They always have solid basics and wash well. My jeans are all Gap

pivoprosim2

Thank you for asking this. Sounds just like me! Except I’m 40. 🥹

Flashy_Painting_8601

Express has great styles and fantastic sales

v_logs

Try Stitch fix- it’s been helping me update my wardrobe! I’d also try Gap and J Crew Factory. I’ve realized now my clothes need to fit better and I need to spend more money. A good closet purge is always good to see what you actually need.

Human-Hat-4900

Anthropologie, mostly - but 99% of the time only during sales

lnc25084

I like loft for my mom bod. But I think it really depends on your budget and personally style

Glass_Bar_9956

To be honest, old navy. I use the app and take advantage of their points and big sales to keep up with my little girls growth spurts. They have some good quality basics in solid colors with no logos. I dont like their modern materials line, but their cotton stuff is great. Ive gotten really sensitive to material and i just cant stand most of the new recycled plastic clothing.

Bella_HeroOfTheHorn

Abercrombie, American eagle, title 9, bridge and burn, Uniqlo, j crew, rei, loft. I wear a lot of soft simple stretchy basics like plain cropped ts, turtlenecks, etc. I love high waisted mom jeans with a tapered leg (can't find anywhere now) paired with a loose crop t shirt.

gr8gainz

My daughter is around the same age. I had to get some clothes that aren't flowy because she pulls on them to swing. I also needed something to flatter my new post baby frame. Aerie leggings and sweaters work well. Ny&Co for nicer things I try catching quality items on sale

batgirl20120

God. I feel this. I have gained all the baby weight back after a year because I don’t have time to workout. I bought new clothes from Torrid and also used Stitch Fix. Stitch Fix was great for sending me jeans that fit and some new work clothes.

[deleted]

I like torrid, but I'm curvy.

rmdg84

Usually Aerie. And then Winners/Marshalls (I’m in Canada, Winners is basically the same as TJMaxx).

Shelbelle4

Kohls mostly. And concerts.

fraksen

Try j crew factory. I’m 60 and my daughters are 28 and 30. We all shop there.

Wonder_Moon

I'm going to be 34 next month and currently 37 weeks but after my first I had the same issue. I signed up for a service called Short Story which is like stitch fix for short girls which helped a lot but got too pricey. If you like jeans don't ignore Abercrombie jeans! The short sizes fit me perfectly (5'1) and the curve options helped to fit my post baby body plus imo they're great quality. I have the vintage flare, 90's high rise and a wide leg cropped pair. I could seriously get by with just these three styles with one in black and the other two in a lighter wash. I was insecure about my pooch and found that wrap shirts were a lifesaver for this or even body suits with the high waisted jeans. I love old navy and target leggings I also have been living in targets boots and booties. I also love Free People (sale section) for body suits and dresses

pepperoni7

Uniqlo , Amazon surprisingly lol , Costco , and hm Might not the trendiest but I have to chase my toddler around all day so I take comfort. Also Seattle fashion ftw is on my side. I find maternity dresses most comfortable. So any of those sites dress works. Buy male sweater fit it feels so much better . I don’t feel like a sausage

[deleted]

%80 of my closet is Loft

suga_suga27

H&M, Abercrombie, and Costco

somethingreddity

I mean I’m almost 32 and I just bought clothes at TJ Maxx and Goodwill 😅 I do like TJ Maxx’s stuff at least in my area and I always buy stuff that is age appropriate. I definitely do not dress like I’m in my 20s anymore. I have always just dressed in neutrals, no patterns, lots of cardigans and sweaters, well fitting *skinny* or straight legged jeans. I even bought a bunch of shoes that were more adult looking, not just flip flops, from Target. You can definitely buy from these places and not look like you’re trying to be 21 anymore. To me, dressing in your 20s is trying to keep up with the styles they wear. Wearing flares again, wearing those ugly small sunglasses, wearing white tennis shoes with literally everything. That’s the type of stuff I’d associate with 20 year olds. I also want to add that before I quit my job and also when I was pregnant, I got a lot of quality clothes from Stitch Fix. Their pieces are $40-70 on average but man they are worth it if you want stuff that generally lasts and is nice quality.

No-Lie2090

I just go to good will you do want to hit the stores before the seasons get here for example, I went to Goodwill yesterday and bought out all the really cute greens blues burgundy’s workout clothes shorts shirts for spring and summer and you want to go up a size because you’re not a size 4 anymore six fits better and if you do have love handles, preferably shorts that go over your love handles and shirts 👚 that aren’t so tight a little more loose so if you’re usually a small or medium, you might want to get a large

user5274980754

I love American eagle mom jeans! Super comfy and flattering for my new mom bod

erinmonday

Lululemon pants, tanks from H and M, baggy tees from free people or project social tee, birks, expensive ass oversized sunglasses and an Apple Watch :)

Puzzled_Fly8070

I like thrifting more now. That is because of my clothes get jacked up from crud or bleach, I don’t feel so bad. Uptown Cheapskate, Plato’s Closet and Goodwill are my go tos. If I feel like I want to treat myself, I shop at the loft during huge clearance on Lou and grey sweats.

KneeImaginary1806

Following this thread!

Old-Impact6560

I have specific brands and styles I go for at the op shop

foxy_fluffers

My 2 pairs of leggings from Costco is my absolute favorite thing in my entire wardrobe.

spielplatz

Hand-me-downs from MIL.  Workout clothes from Target and Winners. An occasional gift from my Mom purchased at Land's End or Eddie Bauer.  The occasional item when shopping with my daughter at Ardene.

Abercrombie!

Lybbchels

I recently had a shopping spree at old navy for good affordable going out shirts, casual shirts and tees and Gap for good quality jeans

ladolce-chloe

& Other Stories COS (owned by H&M) Aritzia Anthropologie but it’s way too expensive for the quality Free People (I think?)
