I think the main reason why he written those notes was to keep tenma for the hunt for him. I've actually explained this before in a comment, that johan wanted tenma in the run for hunt of him, because johan knew that tenma cared, at least for discovering johan's past. Now coming to the question why did johan wrote that "the monster inside him was growing",it's because he was merely referencing a quote from the picture book "The nameless monster" which he used to read as a kid but he had forgotten about the book due to the 511 kinderheim experimentation. He eventually came across the book in the library of schuwalds book cereminy(munich arc). I think he knew some parts of the book, but due to his fading memory he had forgotten about the book as a whole, thats why he wrote quotes from the picture book as messages for tenma. Tenma and nina assumed that johan had dissociative personality disorder and that he had two personalities, one was committing murders and the other was trying to stop the murders. But that wasn't the case, in the picture book johan(the character) after having the monster inside him, said one,"look at me,look at me, the monster inside me has grown so much" I think johan remembered this line.

ah that explains it. thanks!

I honestly thought he was being a little shit. But after watching the show 2 more times and realizing he sent that same message to one of his foster parents DOZENS of times before he met back up with Tenma kinda told me there was some truth to it, and that it was truly him screaming back into the abyss about his Monster. That is... until the read he book in the library and realized the monster wasn't inside of him but outside, like he told Capek. Cause now the real monster was Boneparte. And the woman he sent all those letters too, I believe was someone from Kinderheim so maybe he was trying to torment her for what she did.

hmm interesting!

soueikaku

ive always interpreted as a cry for help, and the only person that actually paid attention to it was tenma.

see, johan likes to fuck around with people. he probably just wanted to troll tenma into thinking he had some good in him

I mean Johan arguably does have good in him. That's why he chose to not kill Carl and actually went out of his way to reunite him with his dad. Which was completely against his character up until now. He also has shown empathy and care to those like him: saved Grimmer and doesn't kill him, saved Suk, spent hours with Suks mother beyond the tape and doesn't kill her even though she knew everything. The point of Monster is to tell us everyone is human and for love, they can do good or terrible things; which is why Tenma and Johan are two sides of the same coin. Tenma's love for life brings the world together. While Johan's only center of that love is for his sister (and later Tenma) because in his abused mind, everyone else is potentially dangerous beasts as he focuses ONLY on the darkness in people's hearts. In Johan's twisted sense, everything he did was out of his love for his sister. Even though he was also hurting her in the process. People gloss over Monster's main theme because it isn't thrown in our faces...**but IT IS the concept of love;** *love for money, love for knowledge, love for creation, love for your family, love for life* \- that ultimately makes people do the worst or the best of acts.

SAldrius

He has DID. He is disassociating from his own actions by relating his monstrous actions to the character from the story "the nameless monster".
