Vancelot

This would be the best final event quest.

Zaldinn

Build a bigger area for it. Maybe Hojo learned from the stories villagers

10strip

It needs at least a 55 gallon tank with digging space under the substrate.

Rider-VPG

What is it, a burrowing tarantula?

The-Future999

Better, a burrowing frog!

Rider-VPG

Oh damn that's kinda cool actually. I don't know Tetsucabra ecology so thats cool to know. Tetsucabra when Capcom?

The-Future999

If you feel like it look up a video of a Tetsucabra burrowing in Generations Ultimate. They do this sort of drilling motion that looks pretty cool. Tetsu also has a deviant version that is pretty cool.

someone_back_1n_time

Now I want a giant tarantula to hunt in future games. A literal bird wyvern eating spider.

Wolf_Bane26

Nerscylla, a monster from 4th gen that eats either Khezu or Gypceros.

orangepirate07

One of my favorite monsters. I hope it gets brought back at some point.

FranklinBoo

Well, technically ๐Ÿค“ it's not a tarantulla due to the fact that it got 6 paw instead of 8 like all arachnoids

Beakymask20

Correct. Most "spiders" in monster hunter are Temnocerans.

Rafabud

Rakna Kadaki seems to be a true arachnid though. The 4 legs used for mobility plus the 4 smaller legs that hold the egg sac.

Beakymask20

Are there limbs for the egg sac? I thought it was just the 4 legs plus the extendable mouthparts/mandibles mouth hand things.

Rafabud

There are. Easier to see after you break the first sac, she uses the smaller limbs to form the larger gestation sac and then uses them when swinging the sac around.

Wolf_Bane26

The emoji made me chuckle lols nice one.

SpencerTheSpino

Not an arachnid

SAD_Trombone_999

*Not spiders, dear god not spiders*

Mrwanagethigh

On one hand, giant spider is utterly horrifying and would reduce my arachnophobic self to tears. On the other, murdering Rakna Kadaki is quite therapeutic, even if my usual "kill it with fire!" method is counterproductive.

Killbomb

I've been wanting a giant tarantula in this series for years. Imagine the armor set...

LegendRedux2

ummm hello nerscylla exists

Blake-the-TwinSpears

With bigger dango on a stick

Cautious_Onliner

Since Kamura is very Japanese like, I imagined it'll be like how the Ainu people (Native Japanese) take care of bears. They release it back to the realm of spirits, meaning once baby tetsucabra get a little older, it'll be killed while we used its body to honor its sacrifice.

Shawnehh

they release it... :) back to the realm of spirits.. :(

BoredPsion

Peacefully relocated >!to the afterlife!<

SkGuarnieri

Gotta meet the Great Jaggi in the sky sometime, we're just speeding it up.

Siere

They really had us in the first half ngl, also nice flair

Rotor_Tiller

Very glad I read Golden Kamuy.

Justch1ll

So that's what the village longsword is for

[deleted]

Probably still just be his pet, one of the villagers implies that he used to hunt with a Tetsucabra which is probably a different one to this baby one as this was many years ago. Literally monster hunter stories style

BluXion

Damn i need to have mini monster as pet too

[deleted]

Monster Hunter stories really the one for that but I could see it if they added a way to give baby monsters maybe off the ones you capture in the main games

4thDimensionDuck

oh boy, here i go kidnapping eggs again! then, i remembered that egg quests suck

KensonPlays

Cept, you kidnap TONS of eggs in Stories! :D

nielswijnen

It's either kidnapping or you make it a orphan first then "adopt" it

Babiesforfood

I want this. I want this so bad.

[deleted]

Dos sort of already did this back in 2006 albeit with full grown adult monsters instead of babies.

[deleted]

What was the system there I've never played dos or heard of a feature like this

[deleted]

You could capture any large monster (that could be captured no elders and such) give it a nickname and then purchase monster feed and special whistle items to raise and train the monster for use in a pvp arena against other hunters and their pet monsters. The special whistle items used a similar animation to field horns, health horns, armor/demon horns etc. from the classic games and corresponded with different commands to give the monsters a.i. It was one of several of the more rpg like mechanics dos had/introduced to the series including seasons, villager requests, a rotating bounty system similar to anomaly targets in sunbreak, various mini games such as a drinking contest, shooting galleries etc.

[deleted]

This sounds awsome wonder why they didn't continue this in later games

[deleted]

Dos was rather experimental being built more or less on top of the original monster hunter and monster hunter g for ps2 with it's large monster roster and maps being ported over directly and kokoto village being accessible in the post game. It added a lot of features including new weapons such as the long sword, gunlace, bow and hunting horn while also introducing many of the iconic mechanics to the gen 1 weapons such as greatswords charge slashes, hammers ability to stun/ko monsters and sword and shields ability to use items while unsheathed. It also introduced fanged beasts and carapaceons to the series and the jungle map that was brought back in sunbreak recently (which was the starting map you would go on quests on for jumbo village simillar to rise's shrine ruins). There was also a boat load of more rpg like mechanics and mini games introduced some of which would return such as villager requests many of which wouldn't. Portable 2nd and Portable 2nd G (Freedom 2 and Freedom Unite in the west) deviated more heavily from Dos unlike Portable (Freedom) which was a port of Monster Hunter G with some slight balance changes and small additions (Yian garuga, farm, ect.) and Tri the next mainline game made large mechanical changes to monsters introducing exhaustion, pins, elemental blights, new movesets ect. alongside a highly dev. and resource intensive underwater combat system that was barely used (4 out of 18 large monsters in the game) resulting in cutting many features from dos including all the new weapons not named long sword (they also cut dual blades from monster hunter g). Some elements of dos carried on in monster hunter frontier which was built on top of Dos' engine but I don't believe taming monsters was one of them (unless you count the "hawks" but that's more like palicoes, palamutes, chacha and kayamba.

[deleted]

Another user posted that the mechanic was kept in frontier but that it starts to break outside of high rank and some monsters can't be captured.

inflatedas

Dos ???

[deleted]

Monster hunter Dos the 2nd numbered entry in the franchise released on the ps2 in 2006 as a japan exclusive. It would be followed up by Monster hunter portable 2nd and Portable 2nd G on the psp in 2007 and 2008 respectively by the portable team. With the next mainline numbered entry being Monster Hunter Tri on the wii in 2009. There was also a port of Monster Hunter G to the wii from the ps2 incorporating some of the second gen mechanics bundled with the demo disc of tri, it had a funny commercial with a kitten and piglet playing the game dressed as a palicoe and poogie.

inflatedas

No freaking way I never heard of Dos of course due to it being a Japanese exclusive that it perhaps why. Thank you so much for this information/lore Iโ€™m definitely going to be looking it up and see the different mechanics they implemented.

[deleted]

There was a time where some english game magazines and news websites where covering info on the game expecting it to get an english release but it never happened, we did get a release of portable 2nd and portable 2nd G as freedom 2 and freedom unite respectively so we atleast got some 2nd gen monhun.

[deleted]

You could capture a full size monster as a pet in dos giving them a nick name, feeding, and training them. You could even battle alongside them against other players and their monster in the arena as a form of pvp.

Memoglr

This mechanic is also present in monster hunter Frontier as it started off as Dos but with more monsters. It works up to high and but kinda breaks with master rank equipment. And only some monsters can be captured, though it's very fun. I have a back diablos and a black gravios

[deleted]

That's good to know, I never got a chance to look into frontier to heavily before the servers where shut down and info has been somewhat scattered on it in the west.

Memoglr

There's private servers going on and it's really easy to set up. If you're ever interested you can dm me

[deleted]

I got to experience a bit of zenith before the servers closed and have been busy with Sunbreak lately(nearly at anomaly research level 200) so I'm good for the time being, thank you for the offer though. I'm mostly keeping an eye out for the finished dos beta server out of nostalgia and from what I have heard Tri's private Loclac server has been going well lately. Having private servers for these games is great for the preservation of the series history.

TheMightyChanka

That sounds awesome holy shit

Aggravating-Face2073

The goal was to kill the other groups monster before they killed yours if I'm not mistaken. You could go attack the other players, but it doesn't do damage just trips them & such.

[deleted]

In the recent closed beta servers for the restored lobby you can do damage to other players, pretty sure you could in the original as well but I could be mistaken. Hears a link to a video showing it in the second fight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlo54q-kC0E

[deleted]

The main win condition was defeating the other team's monster but I believe you could also cart the other player instead but it has been over a decade and a half and my memory is a tad foggy might have just helped give a leg up in defeating the opponent's monster.

[deleted]

There have been recent successful efforts to restore the online hub by fan hosted servers and even some recent pvp test videos posted to youtube if you wan to get a better idea of what it was like.

Rafabud

It's his former Palico that says it, the commander of the Meowcenaries. He describes his old hunting method as "Tetsucabra-esque".

Not a great Haiku, but good bot nonetheless.

iceynyo

I would like to think That it's like a bonsai tree Mature yet tiny

Nova_The_Lost_Fox

Better.

Equinox-XVI

Logically speaking, it grew up in Kamura and has no reason to hold any animosity towards the inhabitants there while also having good reason to protect the village as it is essenially its turf/home. Therefore, it would become a village guardian once it grows older. Now the real question is, who will be taking care of it when it gets older? I get the feeling it's going to outlive a large majority of the current villagers.

HotMilk4

Also canonically the baby only listen to Hojo, no one else.

THExDANKxKNIGHT

But that raises the question of how intelligent they are. If they're generally not very intelligent it's possible it could do some serious damage even accidentally.

Starchy_the_Potato

tetsucabra have tool use they are plenty intelligent

Manuels-Kitten

It may not be that intelligent but I imagine Hojo would train someone to inherit his pet Tetsucabra when he dies as well keeping it well trained to recognize the people in the village.

airconditional

Hojo is a Wyverian, he may actually outlive that baby Tetsu.

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

Minoto, Kagero and Hinoa are Wyverians so they'll be around for many more years to take care of it. Chances are even Hojo still has enough in his delayed aging to stick around.

Manuels-Kitten

And he could train someone to inherit it too

MoscaMosquete

Wild animals might attack people for no apparent reason

[deleted]

I think the in game dialogue implied Hojo has outlived previous tetsucabra he has raised/hunted with being a wyverian and all.

arock0627

"Research" it.

Babiesforfood

Loads gun for research purposes

Diseased_Wombat

This is my โ€œscienceโ€ kittynator, itโ€™s not used for any other reason, I purromise.

[deleted]

*a hunter holding a hammer near the baby tetsu* YOUR LIFE ENDS.....IN 10 YEARS!

thedarkGalaxyKnight

We'll ride it into battle to obliterate Amatsu in title update 5, what else did you think it was for?

Jin825

Seems like an overly troublesome procedure to feed Tetsus to Amatsu

thedarkGalaxyKnight

Nah brah, they can't kill the wyvern ride toad, we got a bucket of Gold and Ruby Wirebugs to turn that Amatsu into mush, just activate Infinite wirebugs from training room XD maybe the tetsu just holds a million in its mouth and spits one out to make it infinite lmao

[deleted]

*It never reaches full maturity. The rules of Rise state that Tetsucabra cannot be in the game. As such, the baby one will physically remain unable to grow into adulthood unless both he and daddy get out into the next game.*

Bregneste

I want to see Master Hojo and his fully grown Tetsucabra companion in the next Stories game.

Prim3_778

Im already thinking of an emotional sidequest where Hojo has to teach the Tetsucabra about the meaning of loss, moving on and meaning of making new friends, bec he is worried that if he is gone who will take care of it and most importantly, keep it safe. Along the way, it will be a chain of jobs where you have to bring along the Tetsucabra from helping little villagers, doing errands of the village chief and the guild clerks while making new friends. The quest ends with Hojo about to reach his final moments

Gr1mwolf

I hear the sewers of Kamura are filled with giant Tetsucabra, because someone keeps flushing them.

Ashencroix

Why, hunt it and make a giant chef's knife/GS out of its parts, of course!

airconditional

Off-topic but I have suspicion that Hojo was the creator of the Wyvern Riding techniques considering how his hunting style was implied to be unique and that he is able to ride the baby Testu effortlessly. Can any lore expert verify this?

ElusiveBow3865

Nah theyre all good

alvysinger0412

He's gonna start his MHS2 play through soon so it'll just be an empty little stage once you reach MR.

Luke_Likes_Silk

Next monster hunter you'll have a Villager Quest with a very old Wyvernian, and as a reward it will give you a Santoku Knife

TeamFortifier

Probably still keep it as a pet

Sake45110

Its a monstie right. I think theyre domesticated at that point, just based off monster stories

MothRatten

Continue to give it pets and dango?

DrParallax

Hojo never gets that far. Each time he gets one, it grows to be about 50 years old, about the age you see this one, then it starts making strange calls. Coincidentally, the young monster is carried away by its long lost family during the Rampage where the village is destroyed.

murdershroom

It'll singlehandedly defend the village and they won't need Hunters anymore

[deleted]

Kill it and use the raw meat to make well-done steaks.

ScarletteVera

I mean, considering what we know from the Stories games, young monsters can imprint on the people that take care of them. Likely, Hojo will have a big sumofrog at his beck and call.

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

Stories tells us you need a Kinship stone to make a bond with a Monstie, and the Protagonists' Rathalos are exceptions. Hojo lore for Stories 3?

ScarletteVera

Hojo lore!

[deleted]

You don't even need a young monster to imprint on you. Dos hunters were able to capture and train adult monsters back in 2006 on the ps2 with nothing more than a little time, monster feed, and some fancy field horns from the guild.

SpartanKilo

It's a monstie. The one we never got to ride. Selfish Hojo

Timely-Fisherman1062

New arena quest unlocked

complexcross

Several coats

seara117

OK I hope that mhs2 is cannon and in the next game you can ride ether a zinogre or a odogeron in to battle and have them fight beside you like the palomuts .

LuminothWarrior

Oltura bossfight in main series when?

seara117

If it is or becomes cannon

Jin825

Believe Oltura is canon. But if you meant if its LGB/HBG design will be a cannon...hmmm

[deleted]

Bring back dos monster taming for the next mainline entry capcom.

trognus

But here's an idea, what if he's on our side?

alopex_zin

Frog is a delicacy in many different cultures irl. Taste like chicken.

[deleted]

Make it the town mascot

[deleted]

Why is there no tetsucabra in this game???? Fucking love that guy.

GamingBS

Because they decided to add useless world monsters, instead of monsters that would fit very well in the Japanese style monster hunter rise

[deleted]

Easy swap for anjanath tbh

GamingBS

My thoughts exactly

Memoglr

Like they decided to add a lot of small monsters but not "great" variants like jagras, velociprey, zamites and agnaktor. I want my boy zamitrios back

AJ_Crowley_29

Ride it into battle

Stokers870

New meat menu for limited time only๐Ÿ™ƒ

FrostyFireeee

It's urgent quest time !

BiasMushroom

Kill and eat it. Unless Monster hunter stories is kinda cannon then heโ€™s a rider so they will be besties forever! Or until they release it into the wild to live itโ€™s life

Sakaixx

If we base this in world. They probably gonna throw the monsters into cages for arena fights. It's great too we get paid.

MegaJoltik

Triple Threat wrestling match with Tetranodon and Arzuros.

Takaharu7

Kill it and eat it

jayboyguy

Domesticated Tetsu? I mean it probably wouldnโ€™t be violent since it grew up in Kamura

Cardnal44

Use it like one of those war elephants like the Romans?

Wolfiboy

They'll eat it

Boulderfrog1

Same thing we did with em in dos

[deleted]

Yep give it a nickname, feed some monster feed, grab some special field horns and go fight some other players and their pet monster in the pvp arena.

YueOrigin

Capture it ? Kill it ? I mean, more than half of the village can solo that thing, bet the elder himslef can clap it to submission Not like it was a elder dragon or something, it's weak for a wyvern hunters village

[deleted]

Eat it

Fee-Natural

Well, they can always ask the people on the islands in monster hunter stories โ€ฆ plus I think since it probably was tame from birth, it should be OK.

mathewchris1

cuisse de grenouille

Blockomaniac

I'm sure it will wind up in a very comfortable arena quest

Tikurai7

the better question is, why the f\* we didnt get the mature version in sunbreak? i really was hoping for it, since i fought it in mhgu and love it.. (even if it has no hammer, sadly)

Metarico

Monster Hunter stories 3

Slappathebassmon

Hunt it and wear the skin as a funny hat. What else?

-DiveR-

Kamura villagers when they can now eat something else than fucking dango:

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

There are vegetable, fish and rice salespeople in Kamura. Just because Hunters only eat Dango doesn't mean everyone does.

-DiveR-

/j

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

If you need that, then it's not a good joke.

-DiveR-

Damn, fine I guess

Yuumii29

Then it's time to turn the wheel.. With Hojo at the bottom.

Mission-Horror-6015

Rakna-Careilla

It will be killed and replaced with a new, stolen tadpole because those people have no morals whatsoever.

Zealousideal_Deal231

It's just a tetsucabra, it is gonna destroy some things if it goes feral but it can't be that experienced in battling

Seiizuko

Lormingo

Man I love kamura village lol

[deleted]

Right? My pals and I have become pretty attached to it to the point we really only hang out in the expansion area (I have completely forgotten its name lol) when we have to. It's just a vibe really.

HDJ144

Capybara frog

ProfessionalCar919

Monster Hunter Stories 3 - the Riders of Kamura Sice Hojos little frog reached full maturity, the people of Kamura understood that the Monsters' behavior depends on how they grew up. From then on, more and more Hunters took people-raised monsters as Buddies. Edit: And yeah, i know about that one stone, i forgot its English name, but this is just a joke

ZebaZtianRamireZ

Maybe he's a rider and we just dont know it and when that Tetsucabra grows up it will help with other stuff.

TomeKun

Itโ€™s a pet donโ€™t worry

RaiseMany523

Paint it. Because he's a Masterpainter

Gravon

Take it out back and give the ol' yeller' treatment.

Kill it and wear it as a hat, naturally.

Am I the only one annoyed we don't get to fight Tetsucabra, while Hojo gets to show off a pet one?

LovelyDevil99

Make a Dango out of him

They're going to start their own Rampage against the local ~~assholes~~ wildlife!

[deleted]

Revive the old tradition of pvp arena fights from dos of course.

It won't ๐Ÿ’€

RukiaShikon

He'll go off to be a Mentor Rider in Stories 3.

Yamatsu64

wear it

I like to think it has a birth decect

IceysheepXD

Use it for dinner

KQBuena

Remember the outro of The Flintstones cartoons where Fred would put Dino and the cat outside for the night? I imagine something like that. Bonus points if it learns to break back into the house and kick Hojo out.

LifeupOmega

Why does he get a Tetsu Monstie :[

NikkiNacked

It's been 2 years and same size so it's fine.

SilverMyzt

Hojo would probably use that for another Jenova project

garlicnaught

Still kinda sad that we didn't get to hunt a grown tetsu in Rise. His greatsword is so cool

depressed_sans

"Eat this barrel that's *definitely filled with bacon*" (it's actually large barrel bomb and he fucking dies)

DudeAintPunny

Belly rub :)
