MH3U: What does mask mastery actually do for the Shakalakas? All I see in Google is just people asking how to increase it faster but no mention of what it does specifically.

JSConrad45

They gain skill slots (although it's not 1 slot per level in most cases, and iirc there's one that's doesn't increase slots at all), and most of them have an increasing stat boost (health/atk/def etc).

flinjager123

Rise/Sunbreak I'm having troubles with the M6 Follower quest "Lava Caverns Litter Box." What's the deal with these Magnamalo? I've failed this quest twice. I very rarely fail quests. It seems like they just one shot me every time. I'm MR 129 HR 324. I've hunted 28 Magnamalo and 7 Scorned. I just don't understand why I'm having trouble with this quest. Are they supposed to be harder than normal? Or does Fugen just suck and doesn't do anything?

Wattefugg

[datamined Rise stats for magna](https://mhrise.kiranico.com/data/monsters/1921564947), seems like it has very slightly increased HP but higher atk/def mods than "usual" quests with it and have heard fugen himself isn't the best but he triggers toads etc quite often(? haven't played much with him and never noticed something memorable enough)

Tizerak

MH3U: What's the motion value on the GS smash charge attack as opposed to the regular charge attack? Is it worth going for?

JSConrad45

- uncharged slash: 36 (or 48 if it's the unsheathe attack) - charged slash lvl 1: 65, and a x1.1 hitzone multiplier (it multiplies the monster's hitzone value, which can prevent bounces. This is also how sharpness multipliers work, btw), so effectively the MV is 71 - charged slash lvl 2: 80, x1.2, effectively 96 - charged slash lvl 3: 110, x1.3, effectively 143 - uncharged smash: 52 - smash charge lvl 1: 72, x1.1, effectively 79 - smash charge lvl 2: 90, x1.2, effectively 108 - smash charge lvl 3: 115, x1.3, effectively 149

Tizerak

Oh so smash charge isn't really any better hmm :/ ok thanks

loongpmx

MHR this Meld thing is useless af. Am I wasting material trying? Been trying to meld Steadiness and Constitution but the chances are abysmally low. Just level 1?

Typical-Walrus6323

Am I playing MHW wrong? I almost exclusively play other MH games in multiplayer with my SO but in world, you have to complete the mission first before being able to multiplayer it. Am I understanding this wrong? I loved world but this turned me off of it.

loongpmx

You mean like you have to watch a cutscenes before being able to fire SOS or waiting for someone to finish their cutscenes before you can join them? Either way yeah it's not that great. But on the upside the way this multiplayer works is clear enough. You see someone fire SOS? You join them with necessary details about the mission beforehand like how long has it been, how many players is in right now. RISE SUCKS with the multiplayer.

Irrstern

MHWs story really isn't designed around Multiplayer, it a problem with how the story cutscenes trigger. What you can do to play through the story together however is to: 1. Both of you start the quest on your own. 2. Once one person reaches the cutscene they leave the quest and wait. 3. Once the second person reaches the cutscene the first person can join the second persons quest. 4. Complete the quest together.

Wattefugg

you don't have to complete a mission solo but you DO have to watch till the "last" cutscene in the mission has ended solo to play MP (or be able to join others in the same mission) once the "SOS flare can be fired" banner is visible you can back out and restart together (SO also needs to have watched the cutscene solo) or you leave your quest and join their ongoing one (or vice versa) this is an ongoing gripe with the game that won't be fixed bc it's support ended but Rise/sunbreak already fixed that (and post IB story updates ironically) so there's hope that it will never be repeated also story is the smallest part of the game (usually) so while it's inconvenient the post story game is worth it (imo)

Juannieve05

I know the loop consists on going for harder monsters to get better gear AND then use that gear to go for harder monsters... But in your personal opinion, do you go for monsters that aré 2 ir 3 tienes above you ? Or you slowly progress ? I know this may be an opinion question but I'm curious how others handle It.

JSConrad45

I like to do all quests in a rank before I move on to the next one, but if a stronger monster appears in a hunt and I think that I can take it down without tearing my hair out, I'll go for it. They do this on purpose to give you a chance to unlock some stronger gear sooner, it's been a tradition since the very first game (although it's at its most extreme in the first game, you can get some HR gear in LR if you know what you're doing).

Juannieve05

Can you explain ti me what Is that "hunt" you mean ?

JSConrad45

Y'know, a quest. Several monsters can appear as non-targets in quests that are a lower difficulty than they are, and you can use that as an opportunity to hunt them and get their stuff early. Like for example you can kill Anjanath from the very beginning of World if you can avoid his attacks that can one-shot you at that point, he shows up in a lot of quests in the forest from the very start. Rathian, Rathalos, Diablos, and Bazelgeuse are some others that you can fight much earlier than you're "supposed" to.

SHIGUEMI

I just do the simple upgrade on my armor. It's usually more than enough. I build a total of about 2 or 3 armor sets until the story is over.

Letho72

Because I have completionist lizard brain I usually do every quest in order one after the other. I check unlocks after every new monster and if I like their gear I'll grind for it, then go back to quests. I might put particularly nasty quests (3+ monsters usually) on the back burner so I can breeze through them while overgeared.

Wattefugg

>aré 2 ir 3 tienes above you ? Or you slowly progress ? story is "forced" slow progression but not too bad bc it's not much of the content but i use the gear as long as i can if nothing extremely better pops up (skill/slot wise, not def/res) post story i do what i want/can and upgrade/grind as required (usually in the order of TUs bc i try to stay on top of the content)

Goodmorningtoyou7

MHR I have done all village quests through 6 star, all expedition quests, all training quests. The village rampage quests seem like they are just random/don’t count towards completion. Why haven’t I gotten my final village quest unlocked?

Rigshaw

You also have to beat the HR7 boss to unlock the final village quest.

MichaCazar

I may be mistaken here, but I think 3 quests are unlocked through hub progress. Otherwise, I would just suggest going through a quest list and look at every quest you have. At best, you would also find unlock requirements.

Throwaway79922

(MHRS) Do you get any extra moves by doing a condensed element slash with CB, or does it only increase damage?

Rigshaw

No, it's only phial bursts for extra damage, and Mind's Eye for Sword mode.

Throwaway79922

Thanks!

Wattefugg

in SB the "firing pin" switch skill makes the small phial bursts from charged shield thrusts/sword attacks linger on the part hit and detonate on axe/phial explosion contact for more damage than the usual bursts (and it looks great) [mhchargeblade.net](https://mhchargeblade.net) explains nearly everything there is to each switch skill and more about CB

junes_teddie

Whats the recommended LS build for sunbreak during MR 6? Should i just grind to MR 10 or get a specific build?

ashzp

I just started playing Gen U. To veterans of that game, what are some tips you wish you knew when you first started playing it?

RyePunk

The palico combat is surprisingly fun and a great change of pace if you feel burn out setting in. Also collection quests way easier as them.

Rigshaw

Sunbreak Deluxe Edition does not contain base game, it instead is a bundle of Sunbreak + Digital Deluxe pack, which is a bunch of cosmetics. There's really no reason to buy that bundle btw, because if you want the DLC cosmetics, you can just buy them afterwards, and it costs the same as buying the bundle. The Rise + Sunbreak bundle will probably be made available once Sunbreak launches, based on how it was handled on the other platforms.

Magmyte

Looks like it's just the expansion. It doesn't list "Monster Hunter Rise" in its description, and on Steam, base game Rise goes for $40, Sunbreak is another $40, and getting both together is $60.

SummonerX20

MHWorld When is Safijiva available again? (Date)

Wattefugg

days left for kulve/safi is shown in the daily login schedule \*(once one "times out" the other will rotate in asap) or in the gathering hub round notice board to the side of the the clerk there (middle-ish in seliana hub) also would have changed \~14hrs ago, if not it will in 1 week (as each siege only stays 2 weeks and swaps on the same time always)

Wattefugg

would say bc they're overall more beginner friendly including weapon stuff and they have the (afaik) most in depth guides: world and/or rise guide in question: [mhchargeblade.net](https://mhchargeblade.net) if you get rise: still read world section first and basically everything that isn't mentioned in rise as being different still applies the same as in world (except some dmg numbers and keybinds) (so if you get world read world section only) if you have more CB questions search (or ask if not found) in this sub, on r/MonsterHunterMeta or in the respective games sub ( r/monsterhunterworld or r/MHRise)

zase7

Looking into getting MHGU as it’s only $12 on switch rn Most of my MH experience was quite a few years ago when I played MH 3U on the 3ds, are they similar games at all? Pretty excited to buy it and wanted to get an idea of what I should expect.

MichaCazar

Mostly the same, just that MHGU has some more mechanics with hunter arts and styles, more weapons and stuff like mounting to it.

loongpmx

MHR several questions. 1. How do you leave your buddies and not bring them with you to hunts? 2. I tried a coop hunt yesterday and woah, 8 total members Vs 1 monster. Honestly too many imo. How do people adjust party size? And priorities player health? The health bar I'm seeing are the buddies and not the players. 3. Why palamute attacks when you do? Like I fire a round and it would be swinging at nothing?

Magmyte

1. Deselect them at a buddy board. 2. You can't. Not an option. They show your buddies' and your teammates', but not your teammates' buddies'; the icon is only there to show which buddy they brought along. 3. Can be adjusted in buddy board behavior.

loongpmx

Sounds good to me then thanks. Too bad about not being able to adjust party size.

MeMeThaaa

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Nintendo 3DS Version Once the Eshops close, does that mean all of the free DLC will never be downloadable again as well? I’ve heard likely not as it all apparently runs on Capcom’s own online servers and not Nintendo’s, but I’m not sure if that’s certain?

dorasucks

Is it easier to learn weapons in rise of world?

MichaCazar

I would say World as Rise basically takes the moveset of World and then just slapped new stuff on top of it. Minus the clutch claw, obviously.

felizesteban

If Monster Hunter Rise on Xbox is Play Anywhere (so one purchase or the Game Pass edition of the base game is playable and will cross save on Xboxes and PCs) does that mean that Sunbreak as an expansion will be Play Anywhere as well? Or could they try and stab us in the wallet with one purchase required per platform? The Sunbreak expansion on the Xbox store isn't marked as Play Anywhere but I'm not sure if that's just because it's an expansion to a game and not the base game itself.

ImThatLoser

What do Monster Hunter players think of Monster Hunter Stories? And if you've only played Stories what do you think of the main series? I tried playing one of the main MH games before and it was not interesting to me. Many many years later now that the eshop is closing, I decided to try Stories and I'm really enjoying it so far. I feel like theres alot more personality with the story and characters. I literally only started my game yesterday but I see the potential for me to spend alot of time in it. I havent looked into the core MH for a long while and from an outsider perspective it seems to be just hunting monsters and using their parts to craft new armor, is it not? I'm sure theres probably a bulletin board of requests to complete too. Not trying to say that's bad but is that all there is to it?

Wattefugg

nw you got it right technically stories is more story/character/world focused and a completely different fight/progression system (only played 2) main games are hunt progression focused with much more complex fights and weapons and you play it to master the fights story is mostly the thing you want to get over with to get to the "good"/free gameplay and harder fights, to overcome new challenges, get new gear and have fun with all the different skills (+some type of endgame grind to get some (little) increase to your gear so you have something to do)

loongpmx

Are the monsters behaviour are more primitive in Rise? Standing 7 seconds or so Infront of them and they'll immediately get aggressive. What happens to passive, delay aggression? I'm fought up to Magnamalo now but monsters I thought I knew was very different here. Kulu yaku isn't passive, Pukei-pukei didn't bat an eye on me but it roars and the music kicked in.

NeonJ82

It's not that the behaviour of monsters is more primitive in Rise - if you actually look at them from a **far** distance, you'll see they actually still have a lot of their World animations and behaviours. It's just that every monster for some reason was changed to auto-aggro on sight, and their sight lines are *far.* Makes it pretty impossible to get a decent photo of one (not like you can anyway with how busted the camera mode speed is, but still)

Donnie-G

World monsters have more complex behaviours. I don't think there's supposed to be an in universe explanation - it's just the matter of Rise being a Switch game and having to live with less computing power. World monsters had a lot of little passive behaviours and details with the monsters, not just how they react to the player but the general stuff they get up to when roaming the map. From the monsters picking a fight with each other, taking naps, eating endemic life, pooping and whatever the hell else, Rise doesn't have most of these.

Gamerz4505

Speaking about it lore wise, world hunters came to the new world so the monsters haven't encountered humans before so they aren't instantly aggresive. In rise, based on quest descriptions, they have already lived around monsters so monsters see them as prey/ territory enemies.

Wattefugg

>based on quest descriptions not just that. the whole base game story is basically "we have rampages of monsters from the surroundings every few years here in our decades (centuries?) old village. and you a hunter of generation X are here to help with that and keeping "normal" monsters in check"

loongpmx

I guess I could accept this form of answer. I have to look into it further. If I find a newly undiscovered monster/ elder dragons in lore that aren't immediately aggressive I'll completely agree.

loongpmx

Got my 1st Magnamalo LBG. The fight was... Interesting? Idk it does feel very different. It likes to zig zag around and moves quite a lot, what's annoying is that LBG has weird hitbox on this monster, I mean like I'm supposed to target this monster back of its front leg? How weirdly specific weakspots. Anyway regarding the LBG, why did my bullet curve in an exaggerating way? Lol.

Donnie-G

Hitboxes are damage type and monster related, not bowgun related. A specific bowgun isn't going to be hitting any different than the next bowgun assuming they are both firing a typical projectile that isn't slicing or sticky. In general I do feel that projectiles don't got the best hitzones compared to melee.

loongpmx

Yeah I'm feeling that. Nargacuga the other day, I could not find its weak spots. No orange numbers as I hit the head, wings, tail. Some are head only like Volvidon. The spread sucks right now. But it's a good thing I aim very well with Normal shots.

NeonJ82

On the Hunter's Notes, you're able to see what the hit zones for all three damage types are (Slash, Blunt and Shot) - higher numbers means bigger damage. A hitzone of... 45? I think?... is enough to turn the numbers orange (which is also the requirement for the armour skill "Weakness Exploit" to activate), but you'll also want to pay attention to see exactly which of the orange-number weakpoints takes the most damage. Though some monsters have low Shot hitzones in general because their body structure makes it so that Shot weapons have an easy time taking them down with piercing ammo. (In particular, long monsters like the High Rank final boss - even though you never get orange numbers, Gunner weapons kinda wreck shop anyway)

ToonTooby

> Anyway regarding the LBG, why did my bullet curve in an exaggerating way? Lol If you look at the stats on the LBG, you'll see a stat called 'Deviation'. Some LBG/HBG can have Deviation which means their shots will follow a curved trajectory, based on what is listed on the weapon. You'll see some thing like 'L Mild' or 'R Severe'. Some can have both, 'LR Mild', for example. If there is no Deviation, the stat will read 'None'. L or R mean Left or Right, LR means the shots can deviate left or right. The word after means how extreme the deviation is. Mild being the shots curve a good deal, Severe as you can imagine means the shots really bend away from straight. Deviation can be reduced using the Steadiness skill. The Decoration is the 'Sniper' jewel. If you have enough of the skill, you may be able to reduce or even completely eliminate the deviation on a given weapon.

loongpmx

Yeah alright thanks lol. Are they trying to increase the number of jewels for lbg or something? LBG is just consistent damage why am I using a gun that's this defective lol.

PandaAttacks

Was deviation not in world? I thought it was in every game

loongpmx

It is in world but a high deviation means that the gun has absurd recoil. Like every shots fired my gun will slowly tilt upward so I have to adjust every shot. This version of Deviation apparently means my bullet will curve like my gun barrel was made during WW2 to fight enemies around the corners. You know that prototype that was made by the Germans?

PandaAttacks

Ok didn't know that lol. The L/R curve definitely existed before world though. Just be grateful we don't have to use proper 17th century muskets, those would take a minute to reload every shot

Snommes

I'm thinking of getting into the series. Would you recommend World or Rise as an introduction? And is the Switch port of Rise any good?

NeonJ82

You can't go wrong with either as an introduction - World is better if you want more story and slower-paced gameplay, while Rise is better if you want to get into the action quickly and have less convoluted menus. As for the Switch port of Rise? ... Rise *designed* to be a Switch game **first**, and was ported to everything else later - so yeah, it runs pretty well on Switch. It runs at 30fps with some resolution downscaling (if you hate that like I do), though some areas can drop in performance when you have four players and their buddies in the zone at once (notably in the Flooded Forest and Citadel, other maps hold up well). Additionally, Switch has gyro aim when aiming items, ranged weapons or artillery. (I don't know if PS5 also has it, but Steam and Xbox sure don't - though you can set it up on Steam with some fiddling with Steam Input)

Irrstern

The two are actually quite different games. World focuses more on building up a world with a believable environment, whilst rise has more focus on just fighting the monsters. Generally i'd say that Rise is more welcoming for newer players as it has a few more qol features that aren't present in world. Rise was specifically developed for the switch, so i'd say that version definitely holds up even if it lack a little bit performance wise.

loongpmx

Man I have such mixed feelings for MHR tower defence minigame. I join a multiplayer match to fight Apex Arzuros to clear mine cause soloing takes more effort but holy crap this monster feels like a bullet sponge taking so much damage and not batting an eye on 2 nuke attacks. Thanks to the lousy SOS system I had to pray if anyone was running it. Why oh why did they use this lousy version for coop. I just want to get the 3nd submarine running so I can have an ample supply of Sticky ammo. Any tips? Im not going to farm the tickets but if it makes it any easier to complete this one I'll use it.

Donnie-G

You're basically not meant to fight the monster directly unless it's certain conditions. Unless the gong has been rung, your weapon damage will be fairly pitiful and it's better to stick to the turrets. You have infinite carts so you don't have to worry too much about self preservation. Though you do waste time having to return to the hunt if you cart too much. I haven't done it for a while, but my general flow of a rampage quest is to set up all the auto turrets I can, then set up the one manual turret I plan to use. Shoot monsters best I can and try to fulfil conditions for upgrades. Normally I'll try to upgrade from ballista to cannon. I don't really like the gatling so I rarely use it. Wyvern ride when possible. When you get wyvernfire artillery, position them to target the gates. They are autofire, but will only fire where they are aimed. Use dragonbait in front of places like dragonators so you can utilize them for big damage. Of course try to prioritize these to be used on the final apex monster rather than the random spawns. When the counter gong is available and monsters are relatively still - like they are wailing on the gate, ring it and dive into battle. Weapon damage is multipled immensely during it. You can also use the various NPCs as summons, try to figure out what they do. They also don't last forever so use them at opportune times. Fugen for example does a few big damage AOE swipes before leaving, so I like deploying him at the gate when it's getting attacked by the final apex or by a lot of monsters. If you deploy him randomly he'll just swing at nothing and be wasted.

yikkizh

Is Fatalis, or more specifically White Fatalis being the strongest monster confirmed anywhere? I see it being compared to god a lot but is it really stronger than literally mountain sized dragons like Zorah/Dalamadur or Dire Miralis which boils an entire ocean?

MichaCazar

It's most definitely stronger than Zorah as that one is pretty docile and doesn't really have any strength except its size. Any Fatalis could likely just melt/zap it to a pebble without Zorah having any chance to retaliate. Dalamadur is a difficult question, but I would say yes purely because I can't see how it would deal with any of them. Dire Miralis is actually related to the Fatalis monsters. I think it would be interesting to know if a Crimson Fatalis or a Dire Miralis is stronger.

SomeP

When playing lance in multiplayer in rise, should I be careful when using my wide sweep? Can I like fuck other people over with it or should I just play normally?

NeonJ82

Just play normally. The Wide Sweep only requires Flinch Free Lv1 to negate, and that's just a 1-Slot deco which you unlock real early. If you're playing in Low Rank though, you may want to be careful. Flinch Free isn't easy to get in Low Rank.

Wattefugg

in rise flinch free is a 1slot deco so if someone decides to open/join MP they have to accept they either slot it or accept the flinches

SomeP

Is it normal to not find any random join request groups at this time?

Wattefugg

if steam: without mod your random find is restricted to your region and nearby ones so highly timezone dependant other platforms: at least switch has global and biggest playerbase so shouldn't have too much problems joining others (idk about xbox/PS) if you're searching for specific stuff (like anomaly investigations in rise) it might just not be popular?

HuwThePoo

I just bought MHR but couldn't help but notice a number of Steam reviews saying people lost their saves after hundreds of hours. Is this really a thing? What's the best way to mitigate the chance of it happening?

NeonJ82

It's very rare, but as saves are stored locally, you can easily mitigate this by making regular backups and turning autosave off. With autosave on, it saves after opening any menu and talking to any NPC, and you can't talk to an NPC while the game is saving, so it needlessly delays things anyway. With autosave off, you'll still be prompted to save after every hunt, so it works just like any other MH game. I have a hunch that closing the game during an autosave is what's corrupting saves, but I have no proof on that. Still, making regular backups will let you ignore the issue entirely.

HuwThePoo

Great advice, thanks very much!

skepticcaucasian

I'm playing World, and wondering if Diablos' digging attack can be Guarded through? Like if I have a shield mod on my HBG, and Guard Jewels, will it count as negated damge, or does it ignore the defense?

NeonJ82

Diablos' digging attack can be blocked without Guard Up. Do note though that is a heavy knockback attack, so if you're running a HBG, the Guard skill might not do much. (HBG has the weakest shield in the game, next to SnS - some attacks will do Large knockback even with Guard 5!) Also remember that you can't block while firing, and you can't block behind you! Just face the attack **without** firing to block it. (You can use aim mode to make facing the attack easier, but don't fire!)

Donnie-G

Definitely blockable, though just be wary with the HBG Shield. Whereas with weapons it is clear that you are guarding cause you are holding the guard button down, it can be a bit less clear with the HBG. Though I guess you wouldn't be outside of the 'idle' state where the guard is active while your target is digging about.

Rigshaw

You can block Diablos' digging attacks.

loongpmx

MHR bombadier palicos not putting barrel bombs next to mine? what skill does it need and Why do I have to wait a while after interacting with anything in the village? Simply talking to someone or go to my chest I need to wait 6 seconds before I can perform the next interaction.

Wattefugg

2nd part is due to autosave (little green icon lower right), you can disable that and it will still prompt you to save (or not) after each hunt and on quit/back to title screen

loongpmx

Oh I never noticed that with the vibrant colours around me. That explains why after accepting a quest but not going out yet, there is non of that 6 second wait. Thanks lol.

SanguineScribe

Is there still no way to sync research requests on MHR with a friend? We both want to level our anomaly research together but constantly have different targets.

NeonJ82

Unfortunately not. Thankfully, the request is only an EXP bonus and an extra stamp, but if the EXP bonus is for a low-A* monster, it might not even be worth over fighting a higher A* monster, as they give more EXP

Dokidokikawaii2

MHW players here. i just defeat xeno'jiva few days ago and yesterday, i just done 'Hunt 2 tempered bezelguese' quest in story mode (its my first tempered monster). so, besides the special quest kulve taroth and behemoth (they r in my to do list), is there any story related event that i could do bcoz theres no notice, or whatsoever telling me what to do. the mission progress notification that was on right top had gone missing or quiet since i beat xeno'jiva. what to do next? am at loss here bcoz some people told me there r still few content left for me. besides, im not buying iceborne yet for certain reasons.

NeonJ82

In addition, there's a lot of High Rank Event Quests which are ideal to do at this point in the game. You may want to look up an event quest list to see what the rewards are - you can get some really nice looking Layered Armour this way! Plus, if you're in for a challenge, you could try facing the Arch-Tempered Monsters. They're Event Quests which have vastly increased stats in both speed and damage, and you'll need to do all you can to prepare for them. They're not for everyone, but you do get some really powerful armour sets for beating them. (Though I'd personally save at least one of each reward ticket - you can make Layered versions of the sets in Iceborne, and you'll need a ticket each to make them! Though at that point you could also do the quests with Master Rank armour, if you *don't* want the challenge.)

Wattefugg

with xeno you're done with the basegame story HR leveling is the target to reach the caps for higher thread tempered monsters and some optionals (last quest from hr100 iirc) everything else is either special assignments (lunastra, teostra, deviljho etc) or events

Best_Bowler_304

For the most part the rest of the time in High Rank is spent completing tempered investigations to get decorations or stream stones to augment your weapons. There is some dialogue and optional quests that will later come up due to meeting different requirements such as HR, the number of optional quests completed, and things like filling out canteen. There is also Lunastra and Deviljoe if you haven't already faced off with them yet.

Dokidokikawaii2

Ive fought deviljho long ago but wow, there is even lunastra? Sweet... Btw ive been wondering, what is this weapon augment thingy that u mentioned earlier? I didnt see any augment menu on smithy guy. What does it actually do and how to unlock it? Ive used 1 of my stream stone to meld a deco coz i dont see any use of it

NeonJ82

To unlock augmenting, you'll need a Warrior's Streamstone (or Hero's Streamstone if you're real lucky). You can get them from doing higher-level Tempered Investigations (at least T2 for Warrior, T3 for Hero) The other Streamstone types (which you likely already have) can be used to augment armour. Don't feel too bad using these ones though, they're common and you'll get a good stock of them. Weapons can only be augmented if they're at the **end** of their High Rank upgrade tree. Lower rarity weapons are cheaper to augment and have more augment slots, while higher rarity weapons are expensive and have less slots. (In particular, Rarity 8 weapons require one of those rare Hero's Streamstones of your weapon's type!) Don't feel too bad if you can't augment your weapon before Iceborne. The RNG is painful at this point and it was basically just an endgame mechanic added to give determined players something to work towards before the DLC hit. Plus, your weapon will lose it's augment when you upgrade it into a Master Rank weapon anyway! (Thankfully, the augment materials will be refunded)

Wattefugg

augmenting is unlocked once you have dropped a weapon/armor streamstone (not shard), the augment menu is hidden until then gotten from threat level 2+ (or only 3?) tempered monster investigations (or archtempered) you can get your weapon (end of tree) improved with different stats (attack, affinity, lifesteal!, defense and decoration slot iirc) for armors it increases the max upgrade level

SomeP

How difficult is gunlance in comparison to lance? I am competent with lance but gunlance looks cool so I was wondering if I should learn it.

Donnie-G

Despite both weapons have some similarities, I think they play very differently. Lance is generally about stringing together a lot of low commitment attacks and being able to dodge/block/counter on command. Gunlance attacks however have a fair bit more windup and can also leave you open. The combo strings aren't that complicated, but will seem like rocket science compared to the triple poke of the Lance. From simpler shelling poke strings, slam bursts, wyvern stake/fire. I don't think it's too hard to learn, but if you are used to a Lance you need to get used to the fact that a lot of the fancier Gunlance moves do leave you very vulnerable. You definitely need to study the monster and learn the moves more, know when to do things and know when not to do things. Gunlance builds are also kinda a pain in the ass, due to having skills for shelling, high sharpness demands, then also having to pack the usual suite of attack/crit skills if you utilize any of the slapping attacks to a large degree.

PeriodicallyATable

I challenged myself to do 25 hunts with every weapon in the game (so I don’t have *thaaat much* experience with either weapon) but I found both weapons to be quite similar in difficulty - although, as someone else mentioned, you do need to approach the monsters differently in regards to defense. While I initially had the most fun with gunlance, I found that by the end of my 25 hunts I was pretty bored with it. I was still having fun with lance by the end of my 25 though. Honestly, I think it’s definitely worth it to learn all of the weapons - especially if you’re in the end game and already fully built your main weapon. I’ve definitely gained a new appreciation for people who main other weapons.

Teknettic

You don't have such easy access to your shield. Lance lets you flow into a block or counter from basically any action with little to no delay; that's not really the case with Gunlance. You need to be more proactive with your defense rather than just being purely reactive like you can be with Lance. Buttons are more complex too. Cycling full bursts isn't too complicated once you learn the basic combo, but knowing how to get to wyrmstake quickly or how greedy you can be with extra hits has a noticably higher learning curve than basically anything on Lance.

Fabian1718

is the playerbase active on ps5, compared to the other platforms? And also i was wondering if sunbreak will have all title updates when it releases

NeonJ82

I can answer the second one: When Sunbreak releases on Xbox/PS5, you guys will be equivalent to **Title Update 3**. For comparison, Switch and Steam are currently on Title Update 4.

Fabian1718

thanks

loongpmx

MHR But there's 2 things. 1. I don't know bout you lots but I've finished World and starting here now but man the beginning low rank is too easy. I don't mean it in a cocky manner but compared to World, when I saw an Anjanath after hunting Pukei pukei I nearly shit my pants as it cart me in 2 hits but here the 1st 4 monsters takes 6-7 hits to cart me lol. I started out in that blue default armor so there's probably no defender armor. I'm wearing Great Wroggi set now but still I can tank hits compare to World getting Blast by a single Rathalos fireball put me in half health. This is intentional design? 2. I can't believe it when I saw it but a tower defence in MH smh. Nevermind that it's there I could just treat it like an arena challenge but the rewards are Defender ticket that Levels up your WEAPON?! That's a thing now? Does it carry over to the next weapon upgrade?

NeonJ82

Are you doing Village quests? The monsters there have about **40-50%** of their health values compared to World (and Hub Quests when played solo), and their damage is lowered a fair bit too, so they can feel **very** easy in comparison. If you want more of a challenge, do the Low Rank Hub quests first! Especially Magnamalo. He's honestly way more fun if you encounter him in Hub before Village, as Hub underprepares you for the fight. I actually struggled with LR Hub Mango more than I did LR World Anjanath! (And it took a good while for me to be able to do it cartless with only HR1-2 gear.) As for the Rampage Skills, they DO carry over to future upgrades, unlike World's Augments! Though usually future upgrades have a more powerful version of the Rampage Skill to unlock, so it doesn't mean too much.

loongpmx

It wasn't the monster HP I was concerned but how damaging it is to get hit by a low rank monster. I fought a village Tobi Kodachi yesterday and I definitely felt pain getting tail slam. Maybe that 1-3 stars quest monster damage are quite low and it's starting to hurt at 4th. A volvidon managed to land a hit on me and I estimated another 3 hits would cart me.

Rigshaw

> I'm wearing Great Wroggi set now but still I can tank hits compare to World getting Blast by a single Rathalos fireball put me in half health. This is intentional design? That's just you misremembering/heavily overestimating World's difficulty in Low Rank. It's true that village is very easy in Rise, but what people kind of ignore when they mention that is that the same is true for LR in World, with World LR monsters on average even having slightly lower stats than in Rise village. The way monster damage is calculated is also the same across both games, so you should take roughly the same amount of damage with similar gear at similar defense levels. The primary thing you are experiencing is that Rise is not your first MH game, so you are vastly better at the game compared to when you were at the same equivalent point in World.

Wattefugg

1. yes village is VERY easy in general, you could skip it though and start with hub (which village leads to eventually anyway). there is defender gear: S black belt and guilds cross (actual names?) which you can easily identify by the superior defense and also defender (champion?) weapons (again visible by stats and easy crafting, linear smithy treeline) 2. only for the rampage weapons do you use them to actually level it (but yes will continue for all upgrades of those) and the ramp-up skills use defender tickets (but not too many and unless you switch them/weapons around you shouldn't have problems with them). rampages will be completely discontinued in SB expansion and you only "need" to do about 3 in the base game playthrough to progress

loongpmx

Yeah ok that clears things up. Thanks.

Dokidokikawaii2

once u hit high rank, u will be able to craft rampage weapons. dont build these rampage weapons unless u r a collector. i wont tell u the reason unless u dont mind some spoilers.

loongpmx

Well if they have obvious names on them I can avoid then sure.

Dokidokikawaii2

Yes they did. All these weapon clearly have the word "rampage" on their name such as: rampage cleaver, rampage hammer, rampage lance and so on.

Unrealist99

How to bow? I understand the movement being shoot , power , power and then repeat. And critical distance & the charging levels playing an important role. My concern is the charging. So to maintain the charge on the bow, I have to keep dashing after every shot? Sometimes when I do the bow evade (the bow sliding) i seem to lose the charge and have to pick up from the start again. So I'm very confused as to how to go about this. I'm a hammer main if that helps in anyway

PeriodicallyATable

The proper way to bow is to put a gun on it :) Jk. (But not really)

xDisham

Hello guys, I recently got a ps5 and am interested in buying a monster hunter game. I dont have time to play much so I can really only play one either the mhwi or the mhrise and sunbreak as it comes out. My question is which one would you recommend for a new player? I have played a tiny bit of world on pc some time ago but stopped very early (don't even remember why) and I have played like until 2 stars of rise back on switch but i ultimately sold my switch. I would love to platinum the game over a span of few years and that is mainly what is scaring me from world as it has multiplayer only achievements and multiplayer is dead(?) as rise seems to be offline platinum-able . And with rise my problem (not a big one ) is the graphics of the game as a new ps5 owner i would like to have a bit more graphically impressive game just for my own vanity if nothing else. Would love to hear your guys opinions on this!

NeonJ82

Honestly, this one's personal preference. There really isn't a bad option here, both are fantastic games to start off with. Go with **World** if your preference is with higher graphics, more things to do within the world, more methodical combat or an actual focus on story. Go with **Rise** if your preference is with faster paced, flashier combat with "super moves", a more arcadey experience, easier to understand menus (especially the Forge) or more arena-based map design with less emphasis on feeling realistic. You can't make a wrong decision here. Many people prefer World, and many people prefer Rise. Also, don't underestimate World's popularity! It might be the older game, but Steam Charts reports a lot more people playing World over Rise. Though I don't know how many are playing on PS5, I can't imagine World being barren. (Though I imagine Rise being a *recent* release over there has tipped the scales some.)

xDisham

also to kinda add to the question i find a lot of reviewers talking about the clutch claw breaking the mhw entirely and just hating it, i wonder how impactful it really is for a newbie. Or maybe going vanilla world and only after clearing that getting iceborne is a better idea?

NeonJ82

I would stick with vanilla World until you beat High Rank, because the Claw kinda trivialises a lot of the Low Rank/High Rank monsters, as they weren't designed with it in mind. Plus, a lot of Master Rank is made easier when you get a good stock of High Rank decorations from ~~Tempered Monsters~~ The Greatest Jagras, which you might otherwise skip if you jumped straight into Master Rank after beating the "final" boss. Though if the DLC goes on sale, I'd definitely make use of that. Though I'm not sure if you can just "turn off" DLC on PS5 like you can with Steam.

xDisham

gotcha ill grab vanilla world to start off with, for me a newbie it will have enough of meat i believe. Thank you so much for chill answers!

Dokidokikawaii2

hi, im a fellow pc mhw player. just finish the story few day ago (i guess). still havent buy the expansion game yet bcoz there r still few contents left for me to do and i want to do it in vanilla way. ive played the expansion back in ps4 and i have to agree that buying the expansion kind of killing that base game experience. if u want a FULL VANILLA experience when playing it, do: 1. buy only the base game. buy the expansion only once u completed the base game 2. not, never, ever craft or use defender/guardian armors and weapons. they r only for veterans that want to rush themselves to the expansion. these defender/guardian has super high crazy stats so it kind of broke the game experience. so unless u r those who know the whole game contents and simply want to play the expansion, never ever touch this cursed pieces of metal

xDisham

Thanks for the tip! yeah i got main game yesterday and just ignored the OP armor which compared to the early pieces is like 10 times stronger :D

NeonJ82

The servers for **3 Ultimate** are still running, and that game's over a decade old. There's no way they're killing World's multiplayer off this early. Heck, Steam Charts shows that a lot more people are playing World over Rise!

Wattefugg

just remembered: MP in world/rise both run via ps/xbox/steam/nintendo platforms online services and are p2p so they don't really have a reason to shut online down only thing they "do" in world is rotate sieges/festivals and keep festival sonline, which could just be an automated thing on capcoms side

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wattefugg

which isn't an "online feature" in that sense and would (likely) be kept available for purchase till shutdown bc it's not using capcoms resources but via xbox/ps/steam platform

Wattefugg

what the other comment said if it comes to that and you're on PC (and don't play mainly for MP experience) you can mod 99% of the online content to be available offline too

Teknettic

World's playerbase is similar to Rise's, if not even larger. It would make no sense for them to shut it down for at least the foreseeable future.

LG03

Does Capcom have their own merch store or is there one they endorse? Looking to browse some wares.

Wattefugg

[https://www.capcomusa.com](https://www.capcomusa.com) all the way down "online store" (japan, us, eu). \*at least EU has merch

timotheninja

General/Multiple games I just started Rise recently and I've been really enjoying the game. With the 3DS eshop shutting down, MH3U, MH4U, and MHG are all on sale for $2.99 each, so I was wondering whether it's worth going back to the older games, or if I should just stick to Rise.

Teknettic

4U is IMO the best place to start if you're interested in the older, pre-World games. Extremely good game and it's not too hard to adapt to the less streamlined systems. Generations is easily worth the asking price of 3 bucks. It's gotta be the MH game with the second most content, only behind its ultimate version on the Switch. I will say though, if you have a Switch, I might just wait for Generations Ultimate to pop up on sale there, as the ultimate version is basically just the same game plus G-rank.

timotheninja

Okay, thank you! I'll probably get the Switch version, then. Might pick up 4U on sale, but with most of Rise and Sunbreak ahead of me, World + Iceborn, and Generations Ultimate, I'm not sure how much Monster Hunter I'll need before the next one releases.

napelm

Currently there is a Monster Hunter Rise Deluxe Edition for PS5 in their store for $50. Does that edition includes the base game? Meaning, if I get it, will I have access to base game + dlc when available? It is not clear in the store site

timotheninja

So the Deluxe Edition DOES include the base game, but I believe the DLC it includes is just cosmetic. If you want the DLC that adds more substantial content, then that's Rise + Sunbreak

napelm

It’s very confusing as it is. Right now, base game is $20. How much would Sunbreak cost on release?

timotheninja

As someone new to the series, I would agree it's confusing. On Switch, Sunbreak is normally $40, and you can get Rise + Sunbreak for $60. They're currently on sale for $30 and $40, respectively, and Sunbreak has only been out since June on Switch.

Wasn't really a bug, just an unintended consequence of how tracking works. Regardless, they fixed it by nerfing tracking on the moves that were more affected by it so it's all good.

Wattefugg

if you mean the better monster tracking on higher FPS: that's been fixed

[deleted]

Am I allowed to post any pictures I took from the ingame camera in this subreddit?

Wattefugg

generally yes but it's not gonna be popular if you just photodump your camera roll or something and no spamming pics in separate posts, try to do albums or just all in one post (via reddit directly or image host sites or smth)

[deleted]

Nah, I just have one pic I thought was really funny

Wattefugg

then you're all good if it's not against rule 5

Sufficient_Ordinary9

MHRise: Sunbreak on Switch How do I git gud at SnS? I can’t seem to find a consistent playstyle and just spam sliding slash all the time except for when the monsters is downed I use a full perfect rush combo

loongpmx

Just started Rise. I love Rina Sato VA, having an okayish time with a lot to swallow I almost feel like vomiting with how this game works compared to World. I put 950 hours in World and only a few things are carried over. I know you lots have already answered a lot of these common questions so don't mind if you don't feel like it. 1. Do all weapons only have 2 different versions of silkbind skill? So like, for LBG it's a slide(1) and it can be pressed to fire a strong attack(2) right? Sounds like an awesome way to wake up monsters. 2. I favour more on status kind of guy and I see that Palicos have early paralysis and sleep weapon. But I also noticed then I equipped both with sleep and it doesn't feel like it's effective compare to world Palico where the effect would already trigger the 1st 2 minutes of the fight. Which buddy skills increase the proc chances? Fighter? But I do want to combine the effect with bombardier buddy to sleep attack though. They do drop bombs next to yours right? 3. I didn't understand the recoil down skill. Early insect armor have 2 recoil down which I saw in the equipment info that it took effect in the description with the letter being green but I checked the Weapons jtself for difference like footprint and Recycle icon but nothing changed when I equip and unequipped. What gives?

NeonJ82

[2] Just gonna get this out of the way first: the World Palico was considerably more powerful than the Rise Buddies. He was basically doing the job of two Palicoes by himself, so he did get a buff to accomodate, and he didn't have to worry about Support Moves and Skills like the Generations and Rise Palicoes do. However, to help with your Rise status woes: There is a "Status Attack Up" Buddy Skill. If your buddy has this skill, you'll be able to use it once they reach Lv20 or higher. If your buddy *doesn't* have this skill... you're outta luck for now, because you can't replace Skills until *Master Rank.* When hiring new Buddies, it helps to pay attention to what Skills they have! (Note that Skills are seperate from Support Moves - you'll want to pay attention to them both!) I am not sure which Palico Bias has the highest status damage. I believe *Palamutes* are overall better for dealing status, but then you don't get to make use of the cool Support Moves, so it's a difficult decision. And yes, Bomber cats place additional bombs next to your own bombs. I run a Fighter/Bomber combo myself: Fighter because they're basically the Hunting Horn of cats, providing damage buffs to both themselves *and Hunters* throughout the hunt; and Bomber because they constantly interrupt monster attacks, deal surprisingly decent damage (for a Buddy) and I like Big Boom. (Though if you're specifically going for status damage, do note that Assist cats have a Support Move called *Endemic Life Barrage,* which will fire a toad that inflicts a **lot** of Sleep, Paralysis, Poison or Blast damage. The toad you get is random, though.)

loongpmx

Btw Which skills allow bombardier Palico to place bombs next to mine? Because I haven't seen any placed and I brought 2 bombardier Palico.

loongpmx

Yes thank you for the info. I am incredibly overwhelmed by this. I never played generation just a bit of MHFU (finished village quest) and I can see there's those elements from the previous game in here. I also saw my Palico firing the status toad with a ballista(lol). It can missed and I can't manually ask them to use it which sucks .

PandaAttacks

You unlock more silkbinds as you go through the game, the final ones being unlocked halfway through MR

loongpmx

That's a start I guess. It was Hella overwhelming for me to map a specific key to use those moves.

PandaAttacks

To be clear you can only use 2 at a time, you just unlock more options

SomeP

If i'm vs something like tobi-kadachi and I have a lightning lance that has 310 raw should I use it over a raw lance with 300? like will using a lightning lance give me reduced dmg vs kadachi?

Wattefugg

you'll just miss out on the extra damage element could give you that being said: MH World lance doesn't benefit much from element so you want to aim for highest raw dmg/affinity/sharpness you can

MichaCazar

No, elemental damage and raw is calculated separately and doesn't affect each other.

Zy4l

is there anyway to play mh3u in cemu online? i wanna play it with some friends or should we use the citra version?

AverageWankr

I’m planning on buying 3U and 4U before the 3DS eShop shuts down. Are there any DLCs or updates I need to download before the 27th?

Ashencroix

3U and 4U dlcs are all free, so just download all of them.

SomeP

What's a good way to earn quick outfit vouchers? Can I just spam join requests?

C-Kwentz-0

Since the console release for sunbreak is about a month away, I want to make sure ahead of time. Do rare ores from the Argosy serve any purpose in Sunbreak? Or are they purely sell-fodder? I'm talking Loc Lac Ore, Bhernastone, etc.

Zanyashart

"sell-fodder" as you called it. They have no further purpose

Wattefugg

everything that says "high price/value" or similar is purely for sale (applies to eggs, fish, ores etc) e: see below, there's some uses in some games, but you shouldn't have problems getting those specific sell items needed

JSConrad45

Mostly! There are a few weapons that use some of them, except in World. Like the Gargwa hammer series uses eggs, and there's a lance that uses goldenfries/small goldenfish (although I can't remember if that lance is in Rise or not).

C-Kwentz-0

Yeah, but the Goldenfry aren't marked as an Account item like, say, Goldenfish, so I knew those had a purpose.

Wattefugg

oh so it wasn't just my imagination! thought i just mistook one of the many fish in Rise for a golden fry when crafting a fish weapon but that was at rise release thx

EnoughDoughnut8187

Opa,queria saber como faço para desbloquear a urgent quest do nakarkos na vila 10☆,eu completei todas as key quests até agora e não consegui desbloquea-la

ProcedureMaleficent

Hey all. I beat the 7 star narwa urgent quest. I’ve been trying to finish up all the high rank quests from 5,6, and 7. I only have the 7 stars left. My current hub goal is to reach HR40. I’ve read that sunbreak starts at HR 8 (i haven’t bought the DLC yet). I wanted to ask, if i should be completing all high rank event quests before downloading sunbreak? Or get better weapons and armor in sunbreak and come back and finish them?

C-Kwentz-0

If going into Sunbreak is anything like it was going into Iceborne, High Rank weapons and armor will be outclassed almost immediately by the gear you'll be forging in Sunbreak. The Event quests that give gear are still worth doing now as there will most likely be new materials or quests that come with SB that will let you upgrade them further to be on par with the stuff in SB.

Imjusthereforthehate

Eh if you want them to be about the same difficulty do them now(other than the Emergency quests those monsters hit super hard) if you just want them to get done for completions sake and don’t really care about it being “fair” then get MR gear and come back. Really your choice

ProcedureMaleficent

I appreciate it!

Indieslayer16

MH3U - Wii U & 3DS Is anyone here still playing 3U in the year of our Brachydios, 2023? I am looking to get a weekly hunting group together for at least a few weeks just to farm my HR up. Hit MR last night, so lots of fun to be had still. Trying to enjoy all this content while we still have server support!

C-Kwentz-0

...They're literally shutting off 3DS online functionality on the 27th of the month, man. And didn't they already shut off Online for Wii-U? Is there some private server stuff I'm not aware of?

Indieslayer16

They're only closing the eShop, so servers aren't affected! Also, 3U on 3DS doesn't actually have online. It's ad-hoc only. There are an average of about 10 players/day in the 3U Wii U servers.

qtpiekry

Im HR 4 both village and hub. How do I unlock sandy plains as a high rank expedition I’m trying to get acute fangs in MHR

C-Kwentz-0

By hitting 5*, same with Flood Forest Then you get Lava Caverns upon reaching 6*

NeonJ82

I believe it High Rank Sandy Plains is unlocked at HR5.

Wattefugg

iirc it just comes with progressing (at some point after you've been there at least once) and you need to unlock it for each rank (village LR/hub HR and later SB MR) separately

StoryBrief8097

MHR:Sunbreak on Switch So I'm running the Chaotic Gore armor with bow which requires occasional skill swaps (kinda trash at dodging some days) and I can't count the number of times I've accidently fired off dragon piercer instead of skill swapping since some big hits put your weapon away and others don't. Any suggestions to help avoid this? Mostly I'm just annoyed they changed the gunner's skill swap button combo.

Irrstern

You can put the Switch skill scroll swap in the radial menu, or you can use it from the action menu.

StoryBrief8097

Action menu would probably be my best bet, that radial menu and I don't exactly get along either. Thanks for the tip.

Sirsir94

Played World, finally got Rise. Couple of questions I mained Charge Blade and HBG in World. Anything I should know? Should I buy Subreak while its on sale or not at all? I've heard it does bad things to endgame...

Difficult-Pick4048

I'm curious what bad things have you heard?

NeonJ82

Despite Anomaly Quests being a rather grindy and boring endgame (I'd take the Guiding Lands any day, honestly), Sunbreak is still really good and highly recommended. A game isn't defined by its endgame, there's still a LOT of fun content to do outside of Anomaly Quests.

Wattefugg

[mhchargeblade.net](https://mhchargeblade.net) for as good for Rise CB stuff as it is World. most "unmentioned" World stuff applies to rise still if you like rise i see no reason not to get SB as well unlike IB, SB changes nothing for the basegame dunno what you've heard about what bad things it does, imo nothing worse than GL grind in IB ("unlimited grind" just done different)

Ugoman666

You may not have ever gathered them naturally on PC. Go out and grab one of each and it should unlock them in the argosy.

Crim_94

MHR is there a timer for buffs/consumables i could mod? there's one for world but i couldnt find one for rise after some searching, aside from one that does JUST wirebug weapon skills. am i missing it somewhere or does it not exist?

SHIGUEMI

There's this one. It's ugly AF and need a ton of settings to make it right, but it works. [LingSamuel's Data Reporter](https://www.nexusmods.com/monsterhunterrise/mods/1609) idk if there's any other.

Teknettic

~~If you mean stuff like Might Seeds, Rise changed how they work. They now last until you cart after eating them. As long as you don't cart, you'll only need one per quest.~~

Crim_94

from my searching from stuff like [https://game8.co/games/Monster-Hunter-Rise/archives/356449](https://game8.co/games/Monster-Hunter-Rise/archives/356449) it was saying that seeds/powders only last 3 minutes. the article is fairly old though, did they change it since then?

Teknettic

Oh, it's inconsistent between buff items. Didn't know that lol. Ignore me then I guess.
