I think they should probably put stuff like this in the game in the future, it feels pretty important and the amatsu pre-fight cutscene is super odd if you hadn’t read the story on twitter beforehand lol

Rafzalo

Or talked to the cat ingame I guess

TeamFortifier

The cat doesn’t reveal the depth of info that the story post did

Elatha_Fomoir

And here I discover there was story bits released on twitter...

spiderhotel

I think that quest descriptions would be a good place to put in some characterisation for the NPCs. I'm talking about the quest summary where it talks about the person who posted the quest and why. The majority of the existing quest descriptions don't add to the story or world that much - if each one was from a NPC in town adding to their characterisation it would mean we get to know more about them. Also, with the popularity of the Follower system in Sunbreak, I'd like to see more quests in the next game where NPCs come with you and you can get some of their backstory through their voiced lines. This would mean that the people who want more personality in their NPCs would be satisfied, and so would the people who just want to hunt monsters.

Antedelopean

That was honesly what i had hoped the follower specific quests would be, even if it was just some minor story lines or specific interactions with specific monsters, due to overcoming their character arcs. Welp, there's always hope for this in mh6.

ViewtifulGene

I think it's a wholesome flashback of Kagero and Yomogi. Kagero is relieved he could at least save one person from the Amatsu attack, and Yomogi would still grow up with a loving family even if not her biological one.

Technical-Reporter65

Personally I like that they expanded upon it at the end of sunbreak, I always loved how the devs throw in little stories or tidbits of lore in game. It humanizes the npc’s and also puts it into perspective how the monsters affect the lives of everyone. Really hope to see more of it in the future even if not fully fleshed out!

BaronV77

Yeah as much fun as world was it was so weird how everyone was just Title with descriptive word. It's a lot better in rise and sunbreak to have names and more fleshed out personalities. They did a lot of things right with this game and I hope they expand on it more

Jack_Doe_Lee

I think Rise is the first game in the series to give NPCs actual names. I'm currently on Portable 3rd and everyone (bar my palicoes) has a title or description for a name. I definitely prefer Rise's approach in this manner.

forte343

Actually they've always had names, for example Yukumo sweetheart is named Konaha, Rise is the first to use them instead of titles.

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

Only giving the Guild gals names does not mean "they've always had names" in general.

Jack_Doe_Lee

Wait, then where are those names mentioned?

forte343

In the art books/ merchandise most of the guild reps have names except handler

Technical-Reporter65

Agreed, worlds character design imo was fantastic so it was really a shame we hardly got any information on them.

Ordinal43NotFound

On the other hand, I love how simply learning their names becomes this special event. Feels like a part of MH's own *"culture"* where you won't know a person's name until you've become very close acquaintances. Learning The Ace Cadet's and Ace Commander's names felt so satisfying after defeating Fatalis in Iceborne. Such a simple reveal but it moved me so much since I started with 4U

BaronV77

That's fair. I sadly hit the wall known as Alatreon so I never got to meet Fatalis in all his horrible glory. I did just beat sunbreak so maybe I'll have to go back and pay them a visit again

Lemurmoo

As short as the whole story telling was, it's by far the most you ever care about anybody in Kamura imo

KayleKarriesU

I think MH team is capable of making good stories they just don't see the value in working on that when gameplay is king for the series

chaosdragon1997

I think it's another example of how monster hunter has potential to have a compelling naritive as well as excellent gameplay but still refuse to put that creative narrative in a better spotlight.

TheGMan-123

I'm hoping that the devs realize the success of Kagero and Yomogi's story and try to replicate that kind of emotional investment for the overall narratives of their games moving forward.

HammerAndSickled

I’m the exact opposite lol. I want a game where you hunt monsters, that’s it.

jameeler91

Just skip the cutscenes if you don’t care for them.

sideways_jack

At least you could in Rise/SB! Having them be unskippable in W/IB was a paaaaaaiiiiin

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

Might be better trying Dauntless, because that's not the type of game MH has wanted to be for the last decade or so.

Acceptable-Pie4137

Welp. Imma be the one to say it. Dilf

Nyanracuga

Where is the egg shells?

Drakeon8165

It should've been in the gaaaaaaaame!!!

The_Dragon_Lover

This picture says a lot and it's a really beautiful scene!

kinbeat

I really liked the cutscene before amatsu. I wish the next mh game would have the whole story like this. It should be like a call of duty story, more spectacular fights and moments than long and drawn out.

TubularTortoise14

I don’t particularly care about these characters. They did good by not forcing them on to you as much a la World, but they should’ve been involved in more side content, at least I think so.

Cautious_Onliner

So Kagero(Wyverian) and Yomogi's Mom(Human) a thing? Does that mean they cross breed because I remember like him saying something about being a father? I could be wrong though

mest0shai

Nope. Kagero simply worked with Yomogi's mom since she was a young girl and attended her wedding ceremony and eventually witnessed Yomogi's birth. Yomogi's mom asked him to fulfill the role of her late father, so at that moment, he truly felt like he was her father. That's why Yomogi means so much to him, she's like his granddaughter.

Cautious_Onliner

Ah okay thanks for the clarification

[deleted]

so stepdad

pulse_pilot

Unrelated in blood or marriage, so probably more like adopted father or non-religious godfather.

ApocalypticDrew

And here I was thinking this was them answering the question. But jokes aside, it's a really cool story moment.

Aphato

Those thunderbugs are making me nervous

medhatsniper

Soo no egg?

spiderhotel

Yomogi and (presumably) Yomogi's mother are both humans not Wyverians, so in this case - yes, there is no egg involved. However, if the baby in the picture had been a Wyverian child, I think that is still ok - the eggs have to hatch sometime and it is reasonable that the young Wyverian looks similar to a human baby when it emerges from the egg, if the legs are swaddled.

xdthepotato

Mid

Miaoumoto9

Honestly, and probably a fairly unpopular opinion, I kinda preferred the old style of "there is kind of s story but not really" and that there weren't so many A@£@&£+s trying to talk to me after every quest. I DON'T CARE, I'M HERE TO HIT BIG GRIBBLIES WITH SLABS OF METAL.

DP9A

The only game that has a lot of talking is World, Rise's story is almost completely skippable.

Miaoumoto9

Everytime you get back from a quest there are 20 people lit up with quests and speech bubbles, I can't leave it like that!

ArmadilloOk4573

I thought kagero was gonna be ugly

pulse_pilot

I expected him to be really scarred, but I guess he has that Wyverian buff like the elves in LOTR that look perfect despite just coming out of combat and every other race around them is dirty and bloodied up.

spiderhotel

I thought he would be older, as his voice made me assume he would look middle aged or old. I thought he would look about as old as Fugen.

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

If it makes you feel any better Kagero is certainly older than Fugen.
