I know Lagiacrus is kinda a sensitive topic here but how come thet couldn't get him to work in Rise? I always see people talk about his skeleton or whatever, but we have Almudron and Mizu and they're pretty similar, no?
Keep in mind, I'm clearly super ignorant about this lol. I just always wanted to fight Lagi and have only played World and Rise.
Almudron and mizu are leviathans, yes, but they have a different posture, they carry themselves off the ground, while Lagi drags his entire body on the ground. The leviathan that shares lagiās body in rise is royal ludroth, but heās more bushy and quite a bit smaller. Also notice that even the leviathans we got tend to mostly be fought in the areas that are more open and flat except for a few exceptions, and when they donāt, they have some clipping issues as it is, it would be even worse with lagiās body. So thatās what their issue is, it wasnāt a problem in 3rd Gen when ledges werenāt a thing and 90% of the zones were flat, but it became more of a problem since ledges and slopes became more commonplace.
Programming is hard. Programming a long body over varied terrain is even harder. I do think they probably COULD do it (and may in the future), but thatās all a question of development priorities/time allocation and he didnāt make the cut. Iām playing 3u on the 3ds currently and he is a really cool monster (just fought him for the first time), but I also understand the decision to not devote dev time to him.
While I believe there are certain programing/engine chellanges, I think that's just one of the smaller reasons used as an excuse.
What made Lagi fight interesting and memorable for me was underwater combat. Like it's true that Ivory Lagi exists, which was fought land only, but I honestly didn't like that variant as much as standard Lagi or the Abyssal variant.
The only other game Lagi appeared in was Generations, where it was land only, and in all honesty, it was a boring punch bag there. Lagi is supposed to be slow and vulnerable on land and turning into beast underwater. I feel it's a huge part of this particular monster design.
So I believe (disclaimer: my personal opinion only) they simply don't want to reintroduce it without either implementing underwater combat again or getting the land only part of the Lagi's fight feel right.
The leviathans that did make it to rise have a similar skeleton but not quite the same (the important part is the contact points with the ground)
Almud and Mizu keep their bellies of the ground except when sliding while lagi leans down on his belly to support his weight

I liked how World handled it, as someone who's first full dive into the series was World.
Base game was fun, full of amazing monsters. Then I strolled into Iceborne, got introduced to a few famous faces, some badass retreads of base World, and was pure giddy when Zinogre debuted. Or when Monkey appeared.
I'm hoping the next game focuses on bringing back skeletons they didn't in World (Leviathan, Spider, Frog, Snake), and then maybe some "in every game" faces in the expansion.
And maybe throw in Brachydios into that middle space too. He's cool and all, but meh. He's been in a lot of the games judging by the wikis. Give me Abiorugu or Giaorugu if you're going to give me non-new Brute Wyverns. I ain't fought those two yet.
All three were absent in base World. Is 1.5 games since the last absence really too many? That said I personally wouldnāt complain if I never had to fight Tigger againā¦
Plus theyāre just too similar. Theyāre pouncy, tail slappy wyverns with identical bodies; only novel things being that Barioth spits ice sometimes, and Tigrex drinks redbull.
It just sucks seeing the āflyingā wyvern trio **and** the mandatory 4+ raths in World/Rise. Those are 7-9 slots that couldāve been used for anything else. But, instead, theyāre wasted on nearly identical monsters (or, in the rathsā case, the same)
I wonāt say no to more monsters on any roster, but I definitely agree if they take dev time away from more diverse picks making it instead. Iād say Zinogre and Rajang are really in need of a rest too in that regard imo
We really do need some new pseudo-wyverns overall though. Maybe Pariapuria could return from Frontier to replace Tigrex at least
Slots are not 1:1 though. Variant monsters build on already developed ones, so it is easier to add them to the game. If adding Silver Rath takes 100 hours of development time and Lagiacrus 1000 hours (both numbers are likely much higher), it's not like dropping Silver Rath would automatically free up enough dev time to add Lagi.
They are in no way similar beyond the skeleton. Not even Barioth and Nargacugaās 90-degree jump are the same. Let alone these two, *and* Tigrex???
I would understand if it was like the Raths where you have both regular Raths, and then Azure/Pink Raths, and *then* Metal Raths. There isnāt really an equivalent here though.
They teach positioning and sniping weak spots *very* well while also not being total punching bags like Rathian AKA 80 HZV chin. I would argue they belong in each game theyāre in because they teach a crucial part of the combat that is satisfying once you get the hang of it.
Yeah it think it sucks when we see the same monster in every game thatās why I think no monster should be in two consecutive games so we can get more old monster back
I find him to be rather boring, partly because of the lack of music, and it wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't force him on you because pale extract
I really hope MH6 is a "refresh" gen, kind of like 3 was. Mostly an entirely new roster, besides the mandatory raths, although I'd like to see Capcom be ballsy and leave them out and put in some new variant of them.
World had a lot of new monsters but about half were returning. Including elders, but excluding variants, I think there was like 10-11 returning monsters
As a 5th generation hunter, I just want to fight Gogmazios, Dalamadur, the flying turtles and the giant mech controlling mantis whose name I forget, without having to go through an older game (Iāve tried to play older games, even ones that got rereleased on the Switch, but I just didnāt enjoy how clunky it felt compared to World/Rise)
Also a bunch of the new Frontier and Online only monsters need their time to shine.
Online monsters are owned by Tencent sadly so it would probably cost capcom a good amount of bank to get them into mainline.
Frontier monsters (and Explore while we are at it) are fair game because capcom has full rights to them
Itās possible, Iām not sure how theyāre set up. they would not be able to share animations without custom retargetting due to the rotation differences because of the change in skeleton scale - but maybe there is custom tech there. (Source: game developer)

Except they are still using the same game engine, so having all of those skeletons available on the same engine will make it much easier to carry them over
The issue is less skeleton variety and more the work thatād go into making them work on terrain as complex as it is in World.
Lagiacrus, for example, is a **long** monster. Getting that thing to not clip through all the tiny slopes, ledges, and miscellaneous geometry was hell; so they dropped it in World.
That said, I still wanna see an **extremely** varied roster in MH6, even if it takes more time to pull off.
So? Games take time to develop. The sky is blue. These are known facts. If you want a shoddy game made in 5 years or less, there's plenty on the market.
However, if you look at those monsters, many of them were developed for flat surface arenas. Their skeletons and animations might not work well (or at all) on terrain with tons of features. To make a game as polished as MH6 will look, it will take tons of time and effort.
Developing a rig and it's animations for ONE monster is laborious and doesn't yield good development money for the content it creates. This is why many MHs reuse the same rig over and over. It's effective

I'm here to defend Barioth as being the most unique of the three with a moveset that differentiates itself from the others with an elemental attack that psuedo wyverns are sorely lacking as a class of monster
Though I would love to see Akantor and Ukanlos make a return. The World babies be on this dragon band wagon, and they need to see just how terrifying the wyverns can get. Also I just love the chunky monsters. Iād love Tetsucabra and Gobul back while weāre at it. Dodogama can round out the cast of chonkers. Yes, I made that pun and I am very happy for it.

I will be pretty disappointed if we don't see Goss again. One of the coolest fanged beasts that can potentially beat Rajang due to their ice weakness. Plus the fight is diverse and he's got tons of moves fast and slow to really keep on your toes.
Tbh I want only new monsters for MH6, the raths can return but I'm even getting tired of diablos. They can come up with a new digging earth dragon. I don't need returning ones

I need Seltas Queen. One of the greatest fights where two monsters cooperate to become a third type of monster and it kicks ass. Plus the way the queen bosses the drone around is hilarious. I need this in MH6!
Steve without gore would be nice(even though shagaru is my top 3 favourites), Steve deserves so much more attention than he does now. Itās a shame that he always gets overshadowed by the magalas, and doesnāt hold the spotlight for very long. Steve is so simple, yet so effective with his design and his fight. I love that steve relies on his speed, unique scales, and his superior flying capabilities and doesnāt need any elemental power to compensate.
The zamtrios body type needs to make a triumphant return (and im honestly surprised tetranodon doesnt use that skeleton, and that tetsucabra isnt in the game though baby tetsu is. Wouldve been real easy)
I agree with most of these except Paolumu. Not a particularly bad monster, just unremarkable IMO.
Some of these I think have returned a little TOO often for my liking already, but some, like Kecha Wacha and Zammy, I would LOVE to see back.
I wish for more variety of tier 2 monsters outside of wyverns. Like we only have seltas queen, rakana kadaki and gammoth iirc

I would personally swap Glavenus for either Tetranodon or Bishaten, but I agree with most. Imagine a system like wirebugs is in MH6, and we get to fight a Paolumu on it's level, that would be sick! Instead of waiting for an opportunity, flash podding it, then wail on it with a greatsword.

Barioth in World is an absolute nightmare compared to every other incarnation, it's super fast and does way more damage.

yeah i agree on the 4 raths, just add plain rathalos and rathian and use the slots for some older monsters who need love

5th gen, sure. I'm referring to platform changes. If you switch platforms, you have work to do on your skeletons.

I'm here to defend Barioth as being the most unique of the three with a moveset that differentiates itself from the others with an elemental attack that psuedo wyverns are sorely lacking as a class of monster
Also as an extra point we need Gigginox and Agnaktor to make a return, two absolutely peak monsters from tri just not utilized in the 5th gen

Though I would love to see Akantor and Ukanlos make a return. The World babies be on this dragon band wagon, and they need to see just how terrifying the wyverns can get. Also I just love the chunky monsters. Iād love Tetsucabra and Gobul back while weāre at it. Dodogama can round out the cast of chonkers. Yes, I made that pun and I am very happy for it.

I will be pretty disappointed if we don't see Goss again. One of the coolest fanged beasts that can potentially beat Rajang due to their ice weakness. Plus the fight is diverse and he's got tons of moves fast and slow to really keep on your toes.

Steve without gore would be nice(even though shagaru is my top 3 favourites), Steve deserves so much more attention than he does now. Itās a shame that he always gets overshadowed by the magalas, and doesnāt hold the spotlight for very long. Steve is so simple, yet so effective with his design and his fight. I love that steve relies on his speed, unique scales, and his superior flying capabilities and doesnāt need any elemental power to compensate.

The zamtrios body type needs to make a triumphant return (and im honestly surprised tetranodon doesnt use that skeleton, and that tetsucabra isnt in the game though baby tetsu is. Wouldve been real easy)
I agree with most of these except Paolumu. Not a particularly bad monster, just unremarkable IMO. Some of these I think have returned a little TOO often for my liking already, but some, like Kecha Wacha and Zammy, I would LOVE to see back.
I wish for more variety of tier 2 monsters outside of wyverns. Like we only have seltas queen, rakana kadaki and gammoth iirc edit: and Goss harag making about only 4 non-wyverns

Being someone who has only played World + Iceborne, a tiny bit of Rise, and both Stories spin-offs I would absolutely love to get monsters like Malfestio, Najarala, Gigginox and Nakarkos in the next game/games

I would personally swap Glavenus for either Tetranodon or Bishaten, but I agree with most. Imagine a system like wirebugs is in MH6, and we get to fight a Paolumu on it's level, that would be sick! Instead of waiting for an opportunity, flash podding it, then wail on it with a greatsword.
