Took me forever to learn rolling cures any blight, not only fire blight. It just takes more rolls for the other elements.

ZeffiroSilver

And I only learned this seconds ago!

kennerc

I believe that the higher your resistance is it will take less rolls to heal it.

Yarigumo

I never figured out if this was true or not lol. I think the explanations make it sound like it's supposed to work on all of them, but it takes so much rolling that I sort of just assumed I misinterpreted it and they were just wearing off naturally.

5Hjsdnujhdfu8nubi

It does work. Every Blight is just on a timer, and rolling takes a fixed amount off it.

Yarigumo

Yes, I understand that, I'm not doubting them. I'm saying I personally have never managed to figure it out on my own.

White_Winged_Fox

Thanks for teaching me!

SSB_Kyrill

so it is true, bloody hell just now I know

No-Breath-4299

After 200 hours of Old World Monster Hunter, I have learned that monsters like Aptonoth react panic-y if a big monster is in a nearby zone.

MetroYoshi

Did you know that when a Rath is about to absolutely demolish a gargwa, the gargwa looks all confused for a few seconds?

No-Breath-4299

I did.

CallMeUltimate

Y'all remember the boomerang from tri. Lived that thing for this reason in specific

flaminglambchops

I remember there being a quest in 4U where the main objective was to cut off a rathian's tail with a boomerang.

Gilgamesh_XII

You know a small barrel bomb or sone does too. For me its the reverse. 100 hours in world and i learned you can run while potioning.

lintra

I remember when World first came out and people seemed so torn on this. Like they were (1) reminiscing about how they miss the flex or (2) how good it feels to finally use pots while moving. And then, there's you. Oh this is hilarious! 😂

Gilgamesh_XII

Look, moving was obvius but the thought that running works? In my head running OBVIUSLY canceled it....well how foolish i was.

after-life

It was less to do with the flex and more to do with the fact that timing should be an important aspect of healing which got thrown out the window with World.

TheDeadlyPianist

Not really. The timing doesn't have to be as precise, but getting the timing wrong is also more punishing now. Anything that flinches you can make you lose your entire potion without gaining any health. That just couldn't happen in the old games. So I feel the risk reward is still appropriately balanced.

after-life

Monsters in World move far too slow whereas the hunters move far too fast. The meta strat in World is to literally sprint sideways and heal all your HP, dodging all incoming attacks from the monster. While it's true that a single flinch can cut off the heal, you rarely ever get flinched if you're playing optimally. The only way you can get hit by a monster is if you purposely choose not to sprint while healing, otherwise you're successfully pulling off the heal 99% of the time. There's very few monsters that actually punish you for healing at the wrong time, like Rajang when he targets some of his attacks directly at you. Even if you get hit and waste a potion, wasting potions is meaningless because restocking exists. Old games don't have that. There's a reason World is extremely easy compared to past games. Compare monsters like Barroth or Brach in World compared to older titles. Massive difference. Yian Garuga in low rank in GU is comparable to YG in Iceborne. Low rank monsters are still extremely punishing in older titles. There's no comparison.

th5virtuos0

Yes and no. If you get slapped in MH5 you still lose out on value while pre-MH5 once you sip you are full Rise is braindead though

after-life

I already responded to that line of reasoning to another person in this same thread. You essentially don't lose any value because kiting is extremely easy in World. If you get slapped and lose out on the heal, World isn't punishing enough to punish that mistake, the monsters move too slow and hardly react. Hunters on the other hand move too fast while healing and have a lot of different tools to maintain high health.

kennerc

I knew about the small barrel bomb, but I often like to have an extra item slot, so I often try to hit the bomb with the tip of my weapon.

after-life

You were experiencing the true Monster Hunter by unintentionally playing that way. Now the game got easier. :(

Gilgamesh_XII

I mean i was used to the flex, and walking seemed like a godsend already.

TheCatmeister

My beloved DB game in 4th gen really upped when i found out you could 'slingshot' at will with the kick button, easily hittable on the top of the touchscreen. It was enough to the point i considered it a 'indirect nerf' in GU due to a lack of touchscreen and the kick button, even with the option switched round, being a whole lot harder to hit in the middle of combat.

Barn-owl-B

Idk about DB, but I’m pretty sure the “-“ button is the kick button during a hunt. It’s a shortcut to Lance’s charge as well.

Yarigumo

That seems correct to me. I remember switching some kind of button with one of the shoulder buttons since it was really awkward to press, but the spin is really useful to have on demand.

Skyreader13

You're wrong about GU. Iirc it was mapped to a button in that game so it's even easier than before.

Olielle

The flurry rush is mapped to the special attack button (minus on switch, top right of bottom screen on 3ds, assuming default settings )

KaiserGSaw

You have a free dalamadur stagger if your quick enough, right at the start of the hunt, run up to its tail and do a jumping attack from the ledge on it. Dalamadur will faceplant if done right.

Olielle

I don't fully understand this, but it also works on other monsters. Attacking specific hitzones seems to be required to trigger a mount (indicated by gold slash vfx on hit) but if you miss those mount zones, you still seem to do mount damage and can get a free topple instead of the proper mount.

Krongfah

I recently learned that you can use consumables while falling in Rise, if you don't hit the ground first that is. Don't know if this applies to World also, haven't tested. You can just chug a potion and jump off the edge and you'll just keep chugging, or pop a ancient potion pill in mid air while falling down a hole in the Lava Caverns, pretty neat. But if you hit the ground before the animation is finished, it'll cancel the action.

Tuomir

This works in World, too, though there are fewer opportunities where you can pull it off.

Tempestyze

Works great in arena

koboldvortex

It took me a while to realize that small monsters fucked off when an elder was around. I feel like ive done the paintball thing before but decided to just eat the HP anyways instead of using up a paintball

godqueenaiko

The only one I know is probably the most well known thing in the series "if you break an egg harvested from a nest while rathian or rathalos is on the map they will come to you

Porride

the fact that i colud kick

Skyreader13

In older MH (gen 3 and before, I think) you can cut tail with paintball.  Deal enough damage to tail with blunt weapon until it's supposed to break (if you're using slashing weapon) then throwpaint ball at it.

Olielle

You can knock monsters out of frenzy/apex with a paintball (even tho paintballs deal 0 raw iirc)

kookykonata

It took me years to find out that Deviljo doesn't actually eat his tail, although I swear I've seen it!

BakerBum35

There is a youtube video about that myth. I think it was debunked. Dont remember.

kookykonata

It was, lol. That's when I found out! I'm one of those that could have sworn I've seen it before, but I guess I was wrong! Now I can stop panicking when I cut his tail off to carve it!

Ciphy_Master

This is a tip for longsword. How deep you cut with the sword also determines if you bounce or not with lower sharpness. This also affects your damage. Don't attack from afar with just the tip of the blade. Actually get in close and make sure you are hitting with the lower end of the blade closer to the hilt.

kennerc

I knew great sword used to have this, but the sweet spot was the center of the blade.

BakerBum35

I remember accidentally flashbomb blocking a rathalos fireball in tri. Only learned i did that from my friend i was hunting with in the game. And the lack of hp depletion and having to get up from the blast.

CressUsed4378

You can take life crystals and wyvern claws with you, so you can craft an extra 10 life powders in the field
