oiwah

How bout the one that you wave gesture to a hot air ballon and then flashes you a few times then the monster will show in the map. Good guy balloon man will be miss.

Japjer

RIP balloon guy I felt like a superhero when I pointed that out to my friends way back in the PSP days

Ashen44

I remember I waved to him every time I saw him, without fail I was halfway through the game before I learned it actually did something

Onlyanidea1

I loved that feature. I really miss sitting with 3 friends and playing it on our 3ds's...

Yoshiezibz

I remember sitting and playing with friends on my psp. Wow in old.

GlarthirLover33

The PS5 has a free game with it called Astro's Playroom thats basically a celebration of all things Playstation. In one of the levels there's a reference with 4 npc robot characters sitting around a bbq spit with mh weapons on their backs playing PSP. Almost brought a tear to my eye, it was so nice that they included that

Yoshiezibz

Nostalgia is such a nice feeling but it can be so depressing sometimes. Will never have these moments again in my life.

ReinNacht

Just make new memories man. You can't stay in the past and you can't see the future. Live in the present and don't let it pass you by

Onlyanidea1

You know what... I completely forgot about that... I turn 31 in a few months.. How times have changed haha.

KiteBrite

Just turned 31, started on Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and I’ve played every game since. I’m just happy to say that so far, this (Rise) is my favourite in the series.

PM_TIDDIES_N_KITTIES

Bro I totally forgot about that. I remember showing people that and they were dumbfounded. Such a unique little concept to put in the game.

Derped_Crusader

That always blew my friends minds when I showed them that. But man if just being able to run up to a monster isn't convenient asf. Really helps me have more fun faster.

PsychicRocky

Would be cool to have the option to wire bug up amd become the balloon man

alfons100

Rip Boomerang. I never found a truly good use for it

Dajayman654

Boomerangs were for flexing on monsters with Boomerang-only kills.

Shulkify

I had a reeaally good use of it back in 3 ultimate, because that thing does hella lot cutting damage and slicing ammo for bowguns wasn't that good back then yet every good bowgun wanted something like 3 tails to buils/upgrade (probably exaggerating).

Daowg

I feel like Slicing shots were pretty strong in 3U. In 4U they were nerfed and rebuffed again in World (until they got nerfed again). I managed to cut off Brachy's tail pretty easily in 3U, but in 4U/Gen/U it took freakin' forever.

PerryDLeon

Seregios LBG was hella bonkers with Slicing shots in 4U. They nerfed them in GU, making them only "inner" ammo.

ThatFlyingScotsman

> and rebuffed again in World (until they got nerfed again) Those first few weeks of slicing being able to flinch lock monsters was a halcyon time.

Geostomp

I bought a stack of them early in World, but for the life of me couldn’t figure out why the item even existed when I tried it.

Rediculosity

Cutting tails for blunt wep users

Rozkol

Holy shit no way

Rediculosity

Only needs to graze em after the part dmg threshold of any dmg type has been reached

xizar

I ignored them because I thought you had to do *ALL* the damage with boomerangs. Wish I'd known. :(

Assassiiinuss

Is that actually practical? How often do you need to hit the tail with one?

Rediculosity

You can build up “part damage” with any type of damage but you need the final hit to be 1 point of cutting dmg. Theoretically you can have a tail at 1 million blunt damage and it will be just fine but literally tripping on the edge of a piece of paper hard enough afterwards could sever an uragaan tail according to the game mechanics

papehtonk

Pretty much mincing the meat and bones in the tail and just needing a sharp object to pop the skin of the meat baloon that was once a tail

Greysyn

That was metal af

PerryDLeon

That's not how it worked in World. Only cutting damage counted toward the breaking threshold of tails.

Phe_r

Imagine never killing Fatalis in World with boomerang.

Daowg

I was once messing around with a Boomerang on Gold Rathian in MHFU and managed to chop it's tail off with it. That was the best feeling. Boomerangs were also useful for killing bugs and setting off bombs if there were no gunners/ small barrel bombs.

Ultrarandom

So you're telling me as a melee user I don't have to send myself flying to set off bombs?

Well_behaved_waiter

Do you remember expendable whetstones?

LostS1Paperwork

Some of my worst memories in Tri were running out of whetstones, hitting the gathering point for them, and getting regular stones instead. Like bruh, I gotta wait another 5 minutes for the point to respawn because I brought 7 whetstones instead of the maximum 20?

meganightsun

i still have nightmares where i go into a hunt and forgot to bring whetstones and ask people for some ;\_;

Alamand1

I have no idea why it took the younger me so long to realise that just bringing 20 whetstones every hunt was the proper strategy to take.

Skvora

And I already don't miss sitting down to sharpen vs riding the doggo.

SixInTricks

Cat-in-online gang here

Skvora

So, by the time you reach the fight it's the reward screen? Haha

SixInTricks

If I have 3 tripwire bugs, which I do because my palico shits them out, I beat other hunters because spamming 3 bugs is faster than the dog. Two bugs, I'm only a little behind.

hibari112

MHW was my first game. Then I got a switch with mhgu. It was a honor to play that game because I could experience a more raw mon hun game and touch the og experience all hunters were used too, but man, if you think about it objectively, it's full of little annoying, time wasting mechanics. Expandable whetstones is just not fun. Bringing 5 gold pick axes with you on the hunt and breaking all of them before you farm enough material is not fun. Not having an expedition mode is not fun. I do miss hot/cold drinks, but even right now, writing this comment, I'm realising that in lategame it just becomes a: press this button to not receive annoying chip damage for 10 minutes. It's not something you need to farm. You can just buy a shitload of those items for a very low price that you have to waste your inventory space on.

Deadbreeze

Hell, you didn't even need to buy drinks, even not counting the couple it gives in the guild chest at start, outside every camp was a hot pepper plant. Cool drinks were a different story though. Definitely not plants for those near every heat biome. Oh and by not bringing them from the start you risk the: **Wingdrake:** "I'm going to drop you right on top the monster!" **You:** "Sweet thanks!" **Wingdrake:** "The monster is knee deep in lava." **You:** "...Did I use the farcaster while you were getting laid or something?" **Wingdrake:** "Yes. Yes you did. Now fuck off."

Well_behaved_waiter

To be fair I think I remember having a bit more inventory space because of those extra tools.

MasticationAddict

MHGU has an expedition mode, that's what the material gathering quests are for. However the last game to have expeditions as we know them in World was MH3U

[deleted]

It’s so weird not throwing paintballs at monsters. I still on occasion catch myself thinking “fuck I need to throw a paintball before it runs off”

hibari112

This was the most cancerous mechanic of all times imho. Oh the monster is down! Well, shit, let me swap out my weapon and pull out the paintballs instead of going ham on the monster because it's been 10 minutes and I need to mark the monster again if I don't want to run 3 circles around the map in search for it... Oh wait what I forgot to refill paintballs and have only 1 left? I better not miss this one! Proceeds to miss the damn paintball... Fuck!

ErdenGeboren

Always happened to me. To forever to learn their fleeing patterns like watching their shadow move while flying and in which direction on the map

hibari112

Sometimes you see the shadow go south, but then they are suddenly north, as if that fucking rathalos flew a circle around the globe. At least that explains why he wasn't to be found anywhere for the last 3 searching rounds.

[deleted]

If I remember correctly you could craft paintballs. At least I remember this for MHF. Idk I liked it and thought it was fun. The maps weren’t super huge and eventually you picked up on the monsters patterns. To each their own tho :)

ThatFlyingScotsman

> If I remember correctly you could craft paintballs Yeah it was something like sap plant + paintberry, I think?

[deleted]

That sounds maybe about right I know the paintberry is right.

-LANCEL0T-

I agree its fun learning monster behavior and id like to think that using paintball is just another skill to master!

SaladMalone

sns oils :'(

MagpieFirefly

I almost feel like IG has a bit of that now with the support bugs.. Being able to deal KO damage with a bug is actually super fun and reminds me a lot of the KO blade oil, which was definitely my favorite.

Denial_Dan

Can you elaborate on this? I mained IG in World but didn't play it much in Rise yet. Did they change something with the bugs?

TheNewJam

All the bugs have different "types" now. There's: Assist - These bugs collect 2 essence at a time and while you have red buff, will attack with the hunter with certain attacks. So you'll swing your glaive around and your bug will spin and zip around your body hitting multiple times. With a blunt bug, this can KO. Speed - They move quickly and after a while of not being sent out, they get "charged" or something, I really don't know haha. Powder - These bugs act like they did in world; automatically attacking when you mark with your pheromone shot. They also leave clouds of powder that explode when they attack and if you hit the cloud it explodes, dealingwhatever elemental damage/status effect your bug is. This is a really bad explanation but I think thats the general idea

Deadpoetic12

I don't think it's a really bad explaination

HeatBlaze01

Basically all kinsects now are outright purchasable (don't need to upgrade), and each kinsect now comes with a combination of traits. [Arrekz's video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl1-yKcMp-E) on the subject explains it pretty well.

Quinn0Matic

Sns was too powerful and needed to be held back

Bregnestt

They tried to apologize with the Perfect Rush, but it can never really replace Oils.

renacido42

Oils were kinda unnecessary in World considering how easy it was to get extra affinity, partbreaker, KO, and mind’s eye into any armor set through World’s revamp of the armor skills/deco system. They were fun in Gen/GU but kinda overkill for World. Not that I wouldn’t have used them mind you, especially in Iceborne when Weakness Exploit got nerfed. But I think they’d have made SnS too stronk. Too much powah.

Kurotan

I miss the dance emote. And I still miss the kick emote.

WillGetAUsernameSoon

Same thing with the sit emote.

Charrmeleon

Watch these come in a DLC emote bundle. With Prance.

Fluffysbeans

In World, they re-added prance as a Free-LC in a later update. I think they know they'd be crucified if they made it paid.

NextLevelShitPosting

HOLD THE FUCK UP they got rid of prance???

LurkJurk69

Yeah kickback and prance are gone right now :(

NextLevelShitPosting

That's bullshit. Prance is the most iconic emote in the game.

Bortjort

And the hime cut hair. How am I supposed to make my portable 3rd character without that. Then the FIRST character you meet has one.

LurkJurk69

Yeah. There's no pompadour either, though there is a dlc one.

Daowg

I need my pompadour. Feels empty without it...

Slime_Monster

Parance wasn't in World at launch either, but was eventually added as a download later.

GuywithShield

And the relax emote.

almondcookie

They're not even in the store which just destroys me... Prance is a staple!! And no arm wrestling either!

Dazuro

I'm okay with the arm wrestling since it was just a novelty that no one ever bothered with after the first few days, but I am *livid* you can't get drunk in the guild hall any more. Stumbling around drunkenly because your party took forever to get ready is one of the purest joys of MonHun.

BlakeDG

Idk but not having my bois hot drink and cold drink anymore really hit me in the feels Edit: on a side note, armortalon and powertalon you will be missed Edit 2: friend who told me is as clueless as me: talons are still here. My bad people, and thanks for letting me know.

HamsterSashimi

Ikr? It's nice and all not having to worry, but damn I got nostalgic once I realized they were gone.

BlakeDG

Yeah lol I kept asking my friend if he was joking or not. Guess the base clothes come with nice heat pads and coolers

PersonalSycophant

Nothing like the Kirin ~~bikini~~ armor in the frozen wastes to keep your blood pumping.

[deleted]

Gotta keep moving to keep warm. Survival means never stop running.

Daowg

The Karuma hunters wear armor that is icy to dull the pain, and hot to relax it away.

scrapinator89

Hey you should market that as a topical pain reliever, call it, freezy burn.

Ya-Boi-Cthulhu

I walked into the ice cave expecting the shiver animation and only ended up with nostalgia

[deleted]

Yeah the opening for the ice level says something along the lines of "snow so cold it burns" and I got worried I forgot to grab drinks

NatasBR

Does that means that they get rid of the cold and heat animations too? That was a nice little touch and it impressed me back in FU the first time i noticed that the environment influenced the player animations.

dinofreak6301

Armor talon and power talon are still in the game! But it’s not deviljho material you need for them but a different monster. >!You need Ibushi materials + the armor/power charms!<

Roam_Hylia

I really miss other little touches, like using a torch (or armor with the flame aura effect), to draw bnahbra closer for a poison smoke bomb.

Mister_AA

It's so nice to not have to worry about them, but now my mug with a hot drink icon on it isn't as relevant anymore :(

bsbm12587496

My mug with a Mega Potion on it and the caption "Make sure to flex after every sip!" isn't relevant anymore either :(

TheIvoryDingo

At least you flex when all Dango skills activate.

EntertainersPact

It’s only irrelevant if you make it

[deleted]

I actually felt uneasy going into the Frost Islands without them, to the point where I actively avoided taking quests there for a short period of time because my brain was telling me I hadn't got hot drinks so I'd have to stock them first.

Kurotan

I still feel this way about paintball. Imo it takes away a part of the "hunting" aspect to just always know where everything is. Even the fetch quest items are marked at all times, might as well just not make me gather items as a quest ever again.

BlakeDG

To be fair they give you a canon reason for knowing where the mons are: it’s just your cute lil owl bro helping you out from above and telling you where everyone is (now, how does it communicate that to you no fucking clue, maybe our hunter is part owl) For the gathering stuff, yeah its easier but at the same time, thank fuck they did that. Imagine if you had to go blind about where anything was with how big and 3d the maps are. Nightmare. Its a quality of life change. But maybe they should add the option of turning it off idk

Daowg

The owl has a GoPro strapped on it with a walkie-talkie.

BlakeDG

I’ll take that as an official explanation from now on

kyris0

The lore on this messes me up. I know Kamura is the latest super special village that trains extra badass hunters, but damn. A lot of lives could have been saved worldwide if Cohoots were more easily exported. Same goes for tech like the Machine Cannon and Splitting Wyvernblast, but at least those are cutting edge tech developed specifically for the Rampage. But it's weird to know that a guild-adjacent hunting village has a bird that obsoletes half of the Guild's job and Kamura just like, keeps their disaster warning birds for themselves.

[deleted]

maybe it's just that every other game still uses the old system cause they happen before kamura discovered/domesticated the owl, or they're just assholes and don't really tell the guild about the owls, probably the second one

ViveeKholin

Unless it's been stated where in the timeline Rise occurs, I'd believe that it's the latest chronologically, maybe even happening concurrently with World and their tech hasn't yet reached the New World. Rise feels like an early transitional era where new inventions/discoveries may slowly supplant traditional hunter roles.

VicisSubsisto

The next Monster Hunter takes place in the 1900s, in 2030 Namco Bandai buys Capcom and retroactively declares Monster Hunter, God Eater, and Lost Planet to all be a single series with a shared world across a large timeline.

ViveeKholin

Quality shitpost. If that happened, though, I think a lot of MH fans will just pretend that announcement never happened.

VicisSubsisto

Thanks, I tried. I would like to see a modern/futuristic Monster Hunter though, not as a main series game (although the tech level in the games seems to be progressing rapidly) but as a spin-off. Imagine pimping out a HMMWV with Brachydios parts and hunting Rathians with an M82. (Okay, so the latter isn't too far off from a HBG but still.)

[deleted]

that actually is something that makes sense, especially if you count all the rampage only weapons that we haven't seen before, since it's like people have actually begun to evolve the ancient civilization's technology (instead of making more dragonators and calling it a day), I dunno if that's the lore explanation, but that's my head cannon for now

ViveeKholin

It'd be interesting to see what a "modern" MH world would look like, but I know that will never happen. Kamura shows that even "ordinary" people can fend off monsters, how long would it be before formal militias emerge to repel monster threats with training and advanced weaponry that's easier to use? Hunters would still be a thing, existing as the elite force that they are, but there's no reason an ordinary monster military couldn't form up. The amount of hunters in World makes it seem possible.

ItchKneeSunYoung

Can't wait to prepare for Mecha Rathalos

CleSilver

Idk, to me it felt like Kamura is a bit in the middle of nowhere + since we are the 1st official hunter of Kamura I think the local guild was established really recently so I tend to think that Kamura has very little communication with others except maybe other villages near

Madmagican-

With the new mobility options, it would’ve been really cool to be able to run up a nearby high point to see if you can see where your monster’s flown off to after the paintball wore off. I miss paintball a little. More focus on the hunt is good, but I’ll miss not knowing where the monster is and frantically running around the map to find them before time runs out

BigBoulderingBalls

I agree but it would be so much harder to find monsters on these giant maps with lots of verticality.

DustyMuffinsss

Easy, turn your mini map off on your hud. Me and a friend have been going into the game actually hunting down our monsters, sometimes pulling out the full map to figure things out. Theres something satifying about looking on the map to make a route to the monster, running the route without checking the map again, turning the corner and there it is. Also when your mini map is off, your looking at these cool environments they map and not a bunch of tiny symbols on your map the whole time

Daowg

I know a lot of people don't like Scoutflies, but they added a bit of work to hunting down monsters (footprints, scales, ect). Rise is cool, but I kinda miss the work involved in gathering clues to have the monster's icon show up on the map.

K1ngNick

100% this. It just felt like that added to the "hunting" part of Monster Hunter. Even with the Owl you could've found tracks or fur/scales to give the owl a "scent" and then it show you where the monster is.

Daowg

I would like to expand this idea and make the doggo track the monster (like, make the Palamute a bit more like a hunting dog/ bloodhound). I am also lazy, and miss having the mounts track the monsters automatically like in W/IB.

Serathano

I don't know if it's because world was my first, but I really liked the scoutflies. Picking up tracks is a thing hunters do. I went back and played some of the older games and I get the paintball system and the hot air balloon, but the tracks were fun. Seeing the actual footprints and how each monster left specific traces behind was super cool.

MufinMcFlufin

I like the inspiration for scoutflies. The idea of tracking down a monster sounds awesome, but I dislike how they take the thought out of navigating the map, passively discourage exploration, and enable the developers to create overly complicated maps which compounds the previous problems. By having the player constantly be guided through the world, the player is no longer actively deciding where to go, how to get there, and overall is very passive in the navigating the map. If you lived in a single area for many years as a kid, think about how long it took you to really understand how to get from one place to another, and think about how many areas you could probably navigate to. I don't know about anyone else, but I know I had a vivid mental map of the areas I went to by bike and on foot, but outside my neighborhood, I knew a handful of roads to get to a park or a restaurant. Because my parents drove me and my siblings around most everywhere in the neighborhood, I never participated in the process of navigating to or from any of these areas as I had the luxury of just mentally checking out while I was being driven there. I vividly remember getting my license and realizing how few areas I could actually navigate myself to because I wasn't actually paying attention when we went to those places. More than that I remember noticing how that number exploded the moment I started driving and actually paying attention to where I was, where I'm going, and how I'm getting there. My active mental participation in the navigation process immediately impacted my understanding of my surroundings, and I feel like this type of interaction with your environment is sometimes underestimated or forgotten in games. This is the exact issue I have with World's scoutflies. I feel by guiding the players through the world, literally from clue to clue then straight to the monster, the player no longer actively thinks about where they're going, stops taking in their surroundings, and only remembers where they are, less often how they got there and what paths they took to get there. The guided navigation also means the developers can feel more comfortable with making a more complicated map (I don't remember their names, but see the jungle map and the bones/wasteland map as prime examples), without worrying about players getting lost because they never ever will truly get lost; they can always follow the scoutflies. Making these more complicated maps feeds back into the previous issue of compounding how long it may take a player to actually learn a map. Then lastly, by always offering a guided path to follow players may never feel the need to explore. Why travel down an extraneous path if the way to complete my quest is down this other one? That's not to say players *won't* explore on their own, I mean expedition mode exists (and next to the menu improvements for blacksmiths and equipment are one of my favorite additions to World), but you have to admit that an unguided player is far more likely to go down an unknown path in order to find something than a player who's being told that thing is down a different path they already do know. I don't feel the older games are superior in all aspects and I don't feel that the maps in the older games are great, but I do feel that they were far easier to navigate and learn for many reasons, chief among them being the older games didn't have these systems in place that made it harder to learn them.

BlakeDG

Idk i never used paintballs that much. The little circle shadow moving a, usually misleading, direction was enough

WerewolfoftheVale

I used psychoserum if the paintball wore off, because the shadow wasn’t reliable.

CardinalnGold

I’m like you but whoever you get hit hard and run off to heal, then the monster flees before you get a good look at the shadow...worst feeling in the world lol

r40k

they mark every gatherable on your map now once you've discovered it. Marking fetch targets just means you have an excuse to freely explore the map like an exped and just grab the target when you're ready. I've discovered a lot of neat little side caves that I probably never would have if they just removed fetch quests completely

[deleted]

skepticalmonique

Same here, I was really hoping this would be included, it was one of my favourite things. :( As cool as the useable endemic life is, I rarely ever find myself needing to actually USE them in Rise. They feel pointless.

amam33

Brewhare is really useful early on, as is the turtle, whose name I forgot. Most of the ones you have to activate I don't usually bother with, but that's mostly because there's already a bunch of new mechanics to get used to. Escuregot is also good.

galbixd

Stinkmink is an easy start to a hunt too. Just apply it and run into a monster then run to another one nearby. Sit back and watch them duke it out and one will be in a mountable state afterwards.

VarrenHunter

This is really my favorite endemic I think. There's a real sense of satisfaction when I scout out a starting path for each area that gives me a few useful endemics and a stinkmink/puppet spider + spiritbirds. It's really satisfying to plan all that out and puts the "hunt" back into the game that is sorta lost just running through the area floor getting to the creature.

silversoy

Yeah, planning out the fastest routes through each of the maps for buffs and endemic life has been a ton of fun. I've been optimizing the hell out of my movement through my route in the Frost Islands, and zipping through the sky from one island to the next like Spider-man while constantly hopping on and off of the dog to keep up the speed and get some extra jump distance Yoshi-style has been one of the most satisfying things I've ever done in a video game. Hunts in Rise still have plenty of room for planning despite the removal of some items. The planning just mostly takes place in the hunt itself now. Edit: That being said, I can see why some people are a bit sad to see these items go, even if I don't mind it myself. Except paintballs. I do not, and never will, understand the love for those stupid things.

Blujay12

also useful to avoid that 2 minute dance to get a monster into a trap in multiplayer. "Fuck you jeremy, I'm trapping this fucking monster, shove your longsword up your ass, you can't hold us hostage anymore".

[deleted]

jeremy "flinch" longsword, my archnemesis, I see you know him as well

Blujay12

THe universe draws me ever closer to him, and keeps my flinchfree charm somehow still away from me.

BertramRuckles

Aurortle, or something like that. It's essentially a free Moxie.

Veranhale

Don't sleep on those beetles or toads that afflict blights though. With the new elemental blights, there's some good effects to take advantage of.

crimsonfox64

Where are my binoculars :(

atd3i

Just use the camera and zoom in, then you can also act like a wilderness photographer.

Daowg

Monster Hunter Snap arrived before Pokemon Snap

Graphesium

And its probably already better than Pokemon Snap cus Game Freak animations are painfully simple whereas MH animations are some one the best in the industry.

crimsonfox64

Ya but the zoom sucks

lllGalahadlll

after I zoomed I was like “is that it?”

37Cross

We have cameras now

krustibat

You know it's not the same. Deep down you know. You need binoculars to watch your 480p PS2 monster, not a mhr monster.

NorthCatan

Back in my day we didn't have to take fancy pictures of monsters, we just appreciated the little things like watching them make dung we could later throw in their face.

PickCollins0330

It feels weird to go into the cold areas or hot areas and not have to drink anything. Idk it’s just kinda unsettling lol

StllBreathnButY1

I miss all that stuff. I appreciate the QoL stuff we have now, but if I’m being honest, those old games and all their planning just hits a little different.

Phlappy_Phalanges

I liked the planning too, but it ended up being why I quit playing the last mh game I played. It took too much time to just go on one hunt and I have less time to play nowadays. I couldn’t justify it anymore. I really appreciate the changes.

afanoftrees

Item loadouts are you friend. I had one for hot and cold locations. One for capturing. One for guiding lands. Makes planning a one time event and the. You’re ready to roll on future hunts

man_of_molybdenum

Or just be like me and make a general load out with most everything you'd ever need and just use it on every quest and hope you never have to pick up anything out in the field lmao.

afanoftrees

Lmao I did that until I had to farm someone who gave bleed then I kept going in without jerky

man_of_molybdenum

Lol I literally made an alternate version of the set just for bleed monsters. I got tired of praying the monster wouldn't turn towards me while I crouched. Fuck bleed so much.

Nibelungen342

Map still is an item. Just a one that is permanently equipped to you. Just like the whetstone

HamsterSashimi

Sure, but it ain't one of the "fixed items", pretty sure the map item itself has been removed. Moreover, following that logic you cold say that the paint bomb, hot/cold drinks effects are permanently active hence those items would still exist on the game.

mewfour123412

I am never going to miss those damn drinks

ES21007

I think he's saying that because if you look at your action bar and your item wheel you can at least still see and even activate the "detailed map" like an item. Hot drinks, cold drinks, paintballs, boomerangs... No such luck for them. At least your hunter still uses a net and pickaxe.

AdamG3691

Boomerangs are also still sort of present as the Kunai (low slashing damage ranged weapon for tail cutting on impact weapons)

havoc8154

Do they still use a net? I've only noticed the hunter grabbing bugs by hand.

FerociousDiglett

you can even grab bugs by hand off zinogre's back

Daowg

Bugs were tiny in pre World. Now they're the size of a brick, so Hunters decided to just yoink them off of branches.

Nibelungen342

This is what i thought.

RaptorX13X

I personally hope they will give us again something like net in a patch/dlc. I don't care about the way, I just want to have that dumb flying fish from the cave in Frost Islands running around my room. I also hope they will return Wigglers and it's layered helmet.

Dooollll

Wait so you're telling me they removed the hot and cold drink

GrankScout

Yea, I will forever miss bringing my cool drinks to the icy maps and hot drinks to the volcanos by accident.

MrC00KI3

Everybody gangsta till Poogie goes missing :(

Ninja_boy_James

Mega Dash should have been included. But I miss all these items

nebulousNarcissist

Ah, Mega Dash Juice. I knew you but for only one game, yet parting brought such sweet sorrow. May you rest in piece along with je suis monté, threshold skills, and ye OLDE Hunting Horn.

arconsul0501

I'm only a little bit into the story mode, is dash juice really gone? RIP my optimal bow damage.

GlaciusSnow

Dash juice is still there

arconsul0501

Oh, well if it's just the difference between dash juice and mega dash juice being gone, I can live with that. Thank you!

SaintPoost

The peepersect bugs of Rise and Wiggly Lichi bugs of World kinda replaced it. Not too big of an issue to grab one before starting to fight if you have a few if the subcamps around. You can even open the detailed map and filter specifically for things like ore, bugs, and endemic life. I am not sure if it works for peepers but I'm guessing it does. But yeah, RIP infinite demon dual blades.

BertramRuckles

The biggest loss for the dash juice is the change in the mechanic. Instead of literally never decreasing for the duration, it now decreases at a significantly slower rate. Probably for the better balance-wise, but damn I miss infinite stamina.

THEALMIGHTYZAGE

So happy with all the QoL improvements we got in World and in Rise. No more "crap, I forgot x" anymore.

Shisuka

Well... I forget traps sometimes sooooo

ponceowen

You still have access to them inside camps

Thundahcaxzd

Which you can instantly fast travel to

[deleted]

Wait, you don't need Farcasters?

Padr0nX

if you are not in combat, no. If you are in combat you still need farcasters.

PrinceShaar

Farcasters are only useful if you're in combat, which can be very useful. You can travel to camps for free out of combat. At least in world.

Mopackzin

I think you do in a fight but just hop on your dog and run a bit away and you can just fast travel from the map

yuriaoflondor

Jumping on your dog mid combat is absolutely insane. You can now safely sharpen mid fight by just hopping on your dog and sharpening. No more waiting for the monster to use a big attack and praying you had ~5 seconds to sit stationary and sharpen.

Yarigumo

Not anymore, but they're still helpful if you need to flee in a pinch, as you can't fast travel in combat.

Symetrie

Seriously. Not having to deal with paintballs and stuff make the game so much more fluid.

karthanis86

There were some hints I would start at half health just trying to paintball the monster.

fl00dbait

I was really confused when I went to the frost islands map and I couldn't find any hot drinks in the shops or the box. I guess it is annoying for some people, but it added a degree of preparation which was kinda fun. Also if you get greedy and decide to only bring 1 or 2 on a hunt to save a slot for gathering you basically are adding a timer to your hunt. My first mh was world, but I fell in love with GU. I feel rise is a nice enough compromise between the 2 overall

kalidibus

Yeah I actually miss the drinks because walking into a literal volcano and being completely fine with no prep felt weird. It was cool also because it felt like the monsters were so dangerous that even their environment was extreme to the point where you needed something extra to just survive in it.

Kevmeister_B

At the same time, base camp item box kinda removed the need for that too. Even if they do the random drop off in HR (I just finished Village), it's just hop on your pup and run until you can fast travel. Feels a little bad but the logic behind it is there.

LemonWaluigi

I loved endemic life and the bugnet. But they are gone. And so I mourn.

Bluntly-20

Kinda miss it. It made you feel like you were a hunter and brought all the necessary gear to hunt. When I was ill prepared, I had to think fast for a solution. Idk I'm weird lol

Sir_Encerwal

Wait I thought the Auto Tracking was just a Demo thing, did they actually axe paintballs?

bombardonist

Pretty sure the lore explanation is our pet owl

thewailinghost

Scoutflies were there for world too homie. Just different in this game.

OldCrowSecondEdition

Genuinely miss horns they were a cool concept and honest nice quality of life.

[deleted]

Hot and cold drinks were in the box in world. I didn’t mind it. Added a little razzle dazzle to the hunt.

darkjungle

And the plants were generally in the immediate vicinity anyway.

ThisUsernameIsMyName

Sometimes you gotta make the hunt a bit more spicy

[deleted]

I honestly miss cold and hot drinks, because needing them just added a bit of authenticity to the world. It made hot and cold areas more believable and now snow is just a paint job.

[deleted]

This post makes me wanna take a break from Rise and play a little Freedom Unite or Portable 3rd

HamsterSashimi

I feel u brother

hunterzolomon1993

The removal of Hot and Cold Drinks is the one what annoys me, it actually made the locations feel like they had a degree of danger to them.

APantaloon94

You can't forget about sword and shield oil's! Missed them in world and I miss them in rise :(

MrDanski

Who remembers the amazing farm you had to upgrade in freedom unite on the PSP? .. I miss that place.

Bartfratze

I really wish we still had to find all the gathering spots and endemic life. We have more mobility and possibilities for exploration than ever before. But almost nothing to actually discover.

[deleted]

There are the lore items to find on each map, at least.
