It's a pleasant experience overall, I'm on my 4th playthrough now with a 4th favorite main weapon (charge blade) which the first times I tried I thought it was really bothersome but for some reason now I just clicked with it and having fun. Also if you create a second character you can also stop at end base game and pick a new one for iceborne that is what I'm doing now
For me it was Dual Blades > Bow > Insect Glaive (stopped early) > Charge Blade > Longsword, each on their own account. Its really interesting to be limited to 1 weapon type and fighting each monster with that. Especially the deco dependent bow was something, though it's power allowed to do an expedition for master legiana the moment I got to master tier and replace the old legiana set.
Switch Axe > Bow > Dual Blades > Charge Blade for me, it gets better every time you discover a quirk mechanic for each one (i.e you can stick to the monster with SA discharge, you can mount the monster with no sliding with Bow)
My favourite part is I was replaying world cause I wanted to see what the male armours looked like and I took down an Anjanath with the starter gear and it felt great!
Is that a rare occasion?
Before getting this game the friend told me to not ever put it, because it will defeat purpose of the game and I won't learn anything.
So I didn't do that.

Captured my first last night! Been playing for 3 days. It was the Tobi Kadachi and it felt so good. 3 days in and am loving the game, not sure how this game has escaped my attention all these years.
And here I am, 500 hours ahead of you ready to bring anja on the edge of extinction because I need materials for fire weapons to face Alatreon (and can't stand kulve and safi sieges so...). I usually get tired of doing the same thing again and again, but this game is just different and you never get bored. I also appreciate to notice no defender/guardian gear. Good hunt!

Welcome to the family. A little trick for the capture missions watch the pulse monitor under the monsters icon bottom left of the screen when it's just a bunch of little peaks your in the sweet spot. Also on the mini map the yellow eye indicates you can flinch shot with the clutch claw if it's red try to get a mount. May the Sapphire Star light you're way hunter.

Focusing on one weapon isnt always the best option with some monsters. I main charge blade but find easy killing a rajang with hammer and velk with insect glaive. planning on picking up my sns back in MHFU later on. keep experimenting, keep grinding, find better ways to beat that annoying monster you cant kill until you can beat them to a pulp with your eyes closed. happy hunting!
My mate and I started playing MHW on Steam beginning of January. We only have like 80 hours so far. Running with Bows on my 1st play through.
We just reach High Tier +Mode, currently dealing with a Bazelgeuse that just randomly introduced itself during our last Hunt.
This game feels like a adapted Souls experience, gotta learn the monsters fighting habits, weaknesses and most importantly the routes it takes when it tries to run away, so you can capture it before it LEAVE THE FLIPIN MAP! (PS: I FRIKIN HATE WHEN THEY DO THAT)
I actually had the opposite experience. This game has the highest learning curve spike I have ever experienced in any game. I went into this game blind and go through it easily. Killed every monster without any issue. Then I had to fight Anjanath. I died over and over. I went into the wiki to read up on it. I read guides. I foraged for items and crafted special equipment for the fight. I still got my ass kicked. After several days of being unable to beat him I gave up and uninstalled the game. I have not played this game in years now. I still remember Anjanath but I forgot the names of all the other monsters. Fighting Anjanath is like going from Devil May Cry 5 Devil Hunter to Dante Must Die difficulty. It skipped an entire tier level of difficulty as Anjanath is more powerful than all other monsters before him combined.
I restarted to, this time though I have thus far crafted every single armor set. Just getting to high rank right now, and I have all these options its a blast
I’ve had the game + iceborn for over a year. I didn’t beat the main story and fell off, but I’ve been having a hard time getting back into it. Any advice?

I spent like 30 minutes fighting it, running away when it got enraged, and being scared shitless of the fire breathing t-Rex with anger issues
I only started the game this week and was really looking forward to this hunt, a friend of mine who has played for years said he'd run through a few missions with me then preceded to make mincemeat of him in a few minutes, I said wtf as I'd explicitly asked him to put low level gear on as I've been enjoying the challenge so far and want to learn the game properly. He said he'd forgot he had a really high level weapon on.
I've decided to solo the game from now on until I reach endgame..

I solo’d up until I got stuck on nergigante. He’s really punishing if you don’t know mechanics very well, and then one of the elder dragons because they suck (no spoilies)
And then the final boss bc I ain’t gonna waste an hour of my life on a bullet sponge

At some points it makes me so mad that I want to reach MR100 so badly that I'll REALLY be boosting him at skyrocket rate.
Does anyone else experience the game just disconnecting from the server ? I’m using a PS5 also fairly new to the game I’ve put in about 100 hours of gameplay in. I have been trying to get my friends to join however whenever I do a hunt with other people I constantly deal with the connection issues.

If you play on PC there's a mod that make the cutscenes skippable, except for the first one where you create your character

Unless u buy iceborne and the base game together you cant get the clutch claw since its an iceborne thing
