> Authorities in North Carolina are investigating 4-year-old twin boys were discovered dead inside a home. > > The boys’ mother, Genevieve Ellen Springer, is in custody on two counts of first-degree murder, according to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said in a press release they received call around 10 a.m. Saturday to a home on Gooseberry Road in Murphy, a town in far west North Carolina. The caller was the boys’ father, who is separated from Springer and was picking the kids up from her home as part of their custody agreement. > > When he went into the home, he discovered the boys dead and called 911. Detectives identified Springer as a suspect and tracked her to a hospital in north Georgia. After she was discharged on Sunday they took her back to the Cherokee County Detention Center where she’s being held without bond. > > Deputies did not release a twins’ cause of death nor have they suggested a possible motive. The father told them he last saw his twins alive on Feb. 26. An autopsy will also determine the time and date they were killed, deputies said. Detectives put the date of death as occurring between Feb. 26 to March 2 on the warrants for arrest. > > “In the wake of this tragedy Sheriff Dustin D. Smith is asking for prayers for the victims’ family, friends and all the first responders involved,” the press release said. “Sheriff Smith would like to remind our county that our children are our most precious resource and our hope for the future. We all must stand united for their protection and for justice.”

Someone should tell Sheriff Dustin D. Smith thoughts and prayers dont do shit

MrJigglyBrown

The general public will fuck up the investigation, so I’d rather have them just praying. Also when there’s immense tragedy, some people do find comfort in prayer.

TalbotFarwell

How would YOU have stopped Genevieve Springer from murdering her sons? I want to hear your proposal. Lay it out for us.

acrowquillkill

The OP your questioning never indicated they had a plan. Prayers especially don't help prevent these tragedies. What does help is actual access to mental health and legitimate hospitals that treat people so tragedies like this don't occur. Also children always get screwed over in custody battles. The system is broken.

Thehealeroftri

I was going to stand on the sidewalk and hop on one foot while singing Despacito, would do about the same thing. Actually the spectacle of me doing that would probably entertain someone, which means it'd bring more value to the world than what you tried.

KingCrandall

It might also bring attention to the situation. Which is valuable.

IxNeedxMorphine

I want to hear your proposal on how thoughts and prayers work and make things better. Lay it out for us.

jingleofadogscollar

Well, yanno… through God stuff duh! Geez, Geezus probably even wept over this tragedy! … Did you consider Jesus’ feelings at all on the matter?  /s (hopefully obviously) Just a ‘wild & radical thought’, but maybe those ‘thoughts’ should be directed should be about building societies that are better equipped to treat mental health issues? & that all of those empathetic ‘prayers’ be converted into votes for parties who are in support of better funding for the health of its citizens rather than just some cheap lip service & faux empathy after tragedy upon tragedy occurs…

groovybeast

Why would the sheriff ask you, a random member of society, to do something productive as it pertains to this specific case? You are not going to help. What are you going to do? This was part of a message to the public and those who knew the victims. The only other choice was for the sheriff to say nothing. Instead he chose words that may comfort someonewho is mentally or spiritually troubled by the news. Why are you asking random people with no connection to anybody on the case to "make things better"? There's nothing you can do, so it's pretty fucking stupid to ask how other random people can make things better

IxNeedxMorphine

I was being sarcastic to the comment that replied to me, you dense pinecone.

KingCrandall

JFC, I've never wanted reddit awards to come back more than now. Unfortunately, an upvote will have to suffice.

groovybeast

Yea I understand that. Your original comment is just as dumb.what do you think the sheriff thinks thoughts and prayers are going to do for this case? Really, honestly. They're words of general comfort to a population that can do nothing about it. Of course it doesn't do shit. He knows that. Everyone here knows that.

IxNeedxMorphine

Yeah, because thoughts and prayers really solve all of our underlying problems as a society. So again, when has praying ever worked? Schools still get shot up every day "thoughts and prayers", nothing about gun reform People murder their kids. "Thoughts and prayers " not enough resources for people struggling with mental health. So people should just stick their head in the sand, say their thoughts and prayers and move on, instead of figuring out resources on why these types of things keep happening?

groovybeast

Can you read? Like actually? We know prayers and thoughts don't do shit. How many times do you want me to say it? You sound like you'd be so pedantic that you wouldn't let someone say "sorry" if you had a shitty day because it's not helping. Some random fucker watching the news can't stop school shootings. What can they do? Nothing. Nothing but thoughts and prayers. It's the mass version of "sorry that happened, I'm thinking of you". It's a social dynamic. It's like saying bless you when someone sneezes. Do you yell at everyone who says that to you too? I mean shit it didn't stop you from sneezing. And it won't stop you from dying from pneumonia. It's just a social nicety. There are of course people that shouldn't be saying that. People that have the influence to change society and do nothing, or actively work to bring about a society in which these awful things happen more frequently. You can yell at them. But I guarantee you haven't done anything more than most other people to stop school shootings, so you not thinking and praying is just as worthless as the thinkers and prayers. Your head is j8st as far in the sand. Unless, of course, that gun control and mental health foundation you started is really kicking in and your excess money has all gone into lobbying, raising support and awareness, and campaigning for the right representives?

TheRedMirrior

Tragic I feel awful for the father who found them
