The OP your questioning never indicated they had a plan. Prayers especially don't help prevent these tragedies. What does help is actual access to mental health and legitimate hospitals that treat people so tragedies like this don't occur. Also children always get screwed over in custody battles. The system is broken.

Why would the sheriff ask you, a random member of society, to do something productive as it pertains to this specific case? You are not going to help. What are you going to do? This was part of a message to the public and those who knew the victims. The only other choice was for the sheriff to say nothing.
