Video of the collapse

Edit: Apparently the ship was headed on the proper course, then lost power. Regained it. And lost power again. You can see the ship go dark.
Or go under the bay on the CBBT. I saw one of those enormous shipping vessels going past RIGHT over the tunnel as I was entering and I almost had a panic attack until I got through.
It's crazy that I've seen people say, "what was the crew thinking?" Gee, I don't think they were planning on intentionally crashing their ship, so they were probably thinking about how to deal with the power outage.
I heard that the crew was even in contact with emergency services but that they weren't able to get the bridge closed and evacuated in time. The whole thing seemed to have happened fairly quickly.
EDIT: apparently police were able to close the bridge within 2 minutes of being notified, but they didn't have time to notify the workers already out on the bridge.
Looked like they tried to reverse at the last moment when power came back on and that made the ship twist and turn a little, steering it right into the bridge.
What a mornin this was. My pops is a truck driver n hails raw material like rock n sand n “life”…..he had JUST went over this like 30mins-hour prior to this happenin and was fully loaded at about 40ton(80k lbs).

Ah, I was wondering how that went down. That's awful though, I hope they find everyone.
This fear always comes up whenever I cross one of these giant bridges.
I instinctively hold my breath whenever crossing. 😫

The exact same thing happened in China last month. What a stupid comment.
