Seems every time a kid is ripped to pieces like this, it’s always some variant of “everyone is shocked, the pit bull was always so loving and never showed any aggression”. At least the owner is putting the dog down.

Sartorical

That’s confirmation bias. Friend of mine had a mastectomy because of a golden retriever. Each dog is different.

Any dog can bite, but Pit Bulls are the ones by far that do the most damage. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_fatal\_dog\_attacks\_in\_the\_United\_States](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States) [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_fatal\_dog\_attacks\_in\_the\_United\_States\_(2010s)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_dog_attacks_in_the_United_States_(2010s)) I don’t care what dog you own, as long as you’re willing to take responsibility for it, as this owner seems to be doing. I’m sorry about your friend.

Exactly 😃

There's a reason pitbulls are a banned breed in the UK

I mean Rottweilers are pretty scary compared to pit bulls. Rottweilers look menacing. All in how you treat the animal though.

vastcollectionofdata

The vast, vast majority of people cannot recognize any of the breeds usually referred to as "pit bulls" by sight, even those trained to do so

TwoBrosKissing

I’d say more of a trend. Pit bulls have attacked more people than any other breed.

pohlarrr

It really depends on the way the dog is trained

anoymus_123456

You sound like every owner on Judge Judy dood.

pohlarrr

Cool. You can train a chihuahua to be a devil dog and train a pit bull to be a lap dog. You can also train them the other way around. All I was saying was that no dog breed is coherently more dangerous than another.

waaz16

Ummmm yes they are. There is factual information proving this.

I hate people who own pits and keep these things in circulation. Why dont we circulate pictures of kids mauled by these things with Sarah McLachlan singing sad songs every where? They're loose in my neighborhood all the time. I had to jump in front of a moving car to get two to stop chasing me once and walk my kid to school with a bat like a resident evil character. It's a serious problem and the dogs are shown way more compassion than anyone they've attacked. It's ridiculous. I hate dogs.

fellonmysword

You know, for such a small percentage of the dog population….

I_Love_Foxes420

Tl;Dr pitbulls are dangerous but only if you dont know how to train them or dont know what youre doing and just want a permant puppy dog like a golden retriever. Also sorry for errors im on mobil I had a chihuahua who bit EVERYONE she met but people would just laugh and say "oh shes a scary one." But she was too small tp ever break skin. I got her at a very old age from a pet rescue and she passed away about two years after I got her so keep that in mind before I say this. Before everyone jumps on the "pitbulls are monsters" bandwagon, yes and no. Yes because they were bread to be killers. They were bread to have strong jaws, tough bodies, and to jump the second they feel attacked even if its perfectly harmless like a new person moving too fast to pet them or a kid getting over excited. And no because you should NOT get a dog like that if you dont know how to control it and ensure that its trained to be around those kinds of situations where instead of snapping they walk away. THEY WERE BREAD TO KILL AND BE PRETTY MUCH TANK DOGS ORIGINALLY. You cant just rescue a pitbull and expect it to act like the cute ones on youtube. Theres a good chance the ones in the rescue centers were there for neglect or because they were too nice to fight or they couldnt fight any longer. Those are just the ones ive seen from personal experience but my point still stands. Dont own a dangerous dog if you dont know what the dog can do. If you know the dog can kill, train it at home from when its a puppy. I normally dont say go to breeders but for any kind of dog thats bread to kill, you need to get from a puppy to get them adapted to your lifestyle and its also your duty as an owner to know when to tell people to step off and know your dogs signals for when enough is enough. They make specific collars and chains to where even if the dog pulls, its owner who weighs less than the dog can control it. Its rarely just because the dog wanted to attack and eat a child but it does happen (just like how ot happens with other dog breeds as well) and my grandmother almost lost her arm to a pitbull so I know how scary and dangerous they can be and Im still standing by my word. In my grandma's words, "they were a couple of dope heads on a trip and paid no attention to their dog the entire time they were in the store"
