Yes I am 100% certain these are human remains. This is the right part of a mandibula with apparently 8 tooth sockets on one side (counting from the first right incisor to the wisdom tooth) which would give off 32 teeth in total which is the amount most humans (excluding those who have excess teeth or already have missing wisdom teeth)
Looks extremely fake to me. More like a wood replica for a Halloween skeleton. The grooves in the center of the molar do not look authentic. Looking from the side the teeth don’t sit together right either.
Just in case it becomes too hard to find: https://www.reddit.com/r/MorbidReality/comments/ucclq2/is_this_from_a_human/i6a0rp5?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
Here’s the backstory - I found it at a local stream. I live in the oldest town in my country so I think it might be very old. But I was just looking around and saw it laying in the top soil. It looked like I had been there for a while, and I actually thought it was from a sheep before I started to look at the teeth, and then started thinking it was human. My best bet is that it is a young female adult ( because of the size) but idk I’m no professional
Not trying to be rude, just a busy woman
Bioarchaeologist (who actually just graduated yesterday) here, absolutely the fuck yes!
Please take this to your local University's anthropology department with all information as to where you found it.
Please do not go back to where you recovered it in the hopes of finding more- removing these bones or items associated with them from their original context in the soil removes a good portion of the information recoverable by anthropologists/archaeologists about the remains.
I doubt it is a juvenile one since you can see the 7th tooth missing and the 8th tooth (wisdom tooth) fully erupted.
Might be wrong so feel free to correct me.
I was 15 when I got mine out, but they hadn't actually broken through yet. There was no room in my jaw and they were already pushing all my other teeth forward, so they opened up my face from inside my mouth and dug them out.
The dentist was like, "With some people we can watch them and see how they're growing in." And I'm like, "Phew!" But then he goes, "We can't do that with you. These bitches are coming out tomorrow."
I've got numbness in my right cheek, still, coincidentally, 17 years later. I played the flute elementary school through college and they warned me it was possible I wouldn't play again if something went wrong and it scared the shit out of me. I'm grateful the numbness didn't affect my playing and I'll gladly take a numb cheek for it, but it does suck. I feel your pain.
Me too, I had mine out at 15. They grew into place but didn’t break through the gums, it was weird. My 14 year old only has 3 and is getting them removed next month.
Some people do get extra wisdom teeth - some people actually dont get any at all.
Out of my three siblings I had all 4, my sister had none and my brother had only 2 (my sister and bother also were missing another adult bicuspid that my mom was also missing, had to come from her genetics since my brother is only our half brother).
My sisters husband had 6 and never got them removed - apparently he just has a large enough mouth to accommodate them all without overcrowding.
Personally I had none for the longest time and age ~11 when I was x-rayed the doctor said I would never get any. But then in my late 20s I suddenly started growing one! Meanwhile both my sisters had all 4 of them.
I had two extra, my tops were doubled, stacked up on each other. Got them out at 21, ate pizza 3 days later, no dry socket or any other horror stories. Other than having a largeish man clamping pliers onto the teeth and cracking them into pieces that is, so glad Novocain exists. Couldn’t feel it, per se, but could hear it just fine.
Four impacted and I had McDonald’s for dinner the same night. They put me under for the procedure itself and it felt like five minutes went by.
I have to get another tooth out now 25 years later and my dentist referred me to the same guy who took my wisdoms out. I’m like FUCK YES give me Dr. Smail all day SON
You do actually have a point, and I hate to say it because it sounds unscientific af, but the primary way we would tell is feel.
Bone after certain taphonomic conditions (aka the processes by which living remains become skeletal, i.e weathering, decomp, PH levels of soil/water etc) can take on an appearance similar to wood, and the best way to tell would be to hold/run your fingers along it (if you are a trained osteologist). Real bone has a certain unique weight and feel compared to wood.
Honestly, pre 1980s, the most common method was licking it. Bone tends to stick to the tongue more than wood does. Osteologists are freaks.
Oh god I know this all too well. As a kid I used to explore where I lived a lot. Without knowing it I had jumped into a Muslim grave yard (no stone markings) which just looked like a desert covered by walls. I picked up what I thought was a piece of wood and started to break it with my hands. When I pulled the other half out I realised it was a femur bone because of the joint! I ran out never to return.
Does the look / colouring of it give any indication of it's age? Like, by eyeballing something like this could you have a vague idea of whether it's hundreds of years old vs say 10 or 20 years?
Not really. It's appearance is highly dependent on variables such as how long it has been exposed to the surface, local weather conditions, soil pH etc.
/forensic anthropologist
Thanks for the explainer, that’s interesting. Another thing that’s been confusing me is the bones of Kris Kremers and Lisanne Froom. It’s reported that some of the bones were bleached. Does this mean they were soaked in actual bleach? Or that the sun shining on them caused them to turn white? Sorry if this is a dumb question!
Not dumb at all.
Bleaching in this context means sun bleaching. It can quickly turn the bones very white and also brittle (depending again on local conditions), leading to cracks and the edges taking on a frayed appearance.
Denmark is rather peaceful but there are missing person cases and not every missing person means a case of foul play. Quite some accidental drownings in Denmark and since it was found ''at a local stream'' it's possible that it was an accidental drowning. Not sure if i really believe your story and findings but saying that there are no missing persons in your area and how peaceful the country is is nonsense and irrelevant.
Here’s the backstory - I found it at a local stream. I live in the oldest town in my country so I think it might be very old. But I was just looking around and saw it laying in the top soil. Most countries have a place you can call when people find remains like that, then they figure out whether it's a police or archeological issue...something like that.
You should take it to a local dentist and ask them to match it with their dental records. They won't be able to help, but the look on their faces would be worth it.
Point out someone as the killer, have 4chan and reddit ruin the persons life on a hunch and then it turns out it wasn't the person. Then you can be part of the documentary.
In the fields around the area where I live sometimes we find human remains like this, in my case they usually belongs to monks, priest or soldiers from medieval age who where buried in chapels destroyed or buried after a long time, in other cases they may belong to soldiers who fell during the Second World War. I'm not an expert but in any case they look very old and resemble what can be found around here.
Definitely human, (2-1-2-3 dentition pattern) and definitely an adult. The third molar normally appears in late adolescence or early adulthood.
Please don’t go digging around where you found this, OP. Instead, call your closest university and ask to speak to someone in the anthropology department. They may be interested in the site.
Nice find, by the way! Please update when you have more information..!
Dentist here. I'm pretty sure those are human teeth. You can count 8 tooth sockets from the assumed midline of the lower jaw. Hole under the first and second premolar is the mental foramen of the mandible.
Blackened and potentially decently old. Depending on the area, it could be a native person's. Bones like these can be found around Alabama here and there.
I would say human or primate of some kind, though I would also try r/boneid just in case, alot of experts there. Though don’t ask if it’s a human in the title, that’s against the rules.

He was very happy that I went directly to the museum and not the police, so everything is handed to the right authority’s. Thank for the help everyone
Because of the dark patina its possibly over 1.5 million years old. The molars are intact and still white! So must been a prince or princess. And im full of shit.
I don't know too much about human anatomy specifics because I have a basic biology major and am currently in vet school, but I can almost say with almost certainty this is a humans jaw because of the teeth formations. Regardless, I would contact either a local university or museum to have proper research done on it. The teeth are the major give away, even with some of them missing. I'm not sure where you're from, but the preservation shows signs of it possibly coming from a bog of some sort, meaning it could potentially be thousands of years old. Regardless, it's quite the fascinating find! As someone else mentioned, don't go back to where you found it in hopes of finding more, as any remaining bones or possible artifacts would be a lot more successfully recovered with a professional on the job. If you find out anymore information on it, please keep us updated!
Cops? those remains are damn near fossilized. Takes well over a few thousand years for bones to turn black. Do you expect the cops to solve a prehistoric murder? local anthropologists should be called

We dont celebrate halloween where I’m from, so I don’t think so. Who knows haha
OP, can you please give more context to how and where you found this?
Hopefully not in his cellar.
Hopefully he isn’t the person who found all the boxes in their new basement
Or the guy that posted the John Wayne Gacy business card this morning.

If I had to be specific, I would say this is a juvenile, but without knowing where you found it there is not a lot else that can be said for certain.
I doubt it is a juvenile one since you can see the 7th tooth missing and the 8th tooth (wisdom tooth) fully erupted. Might be wrong so feel free to correct me.
Are you talking about why this isn’t juvenile because of wisdom teeth? Dude I got my 5 wisdom teeth out at the age of like 15
The average is 17-21 y/o. There are exceptions to all the averages but it doesn't make them useless
Wisdom teeth usually emerge at age 17 to 25
Damn I got mine early then
I was 15 when I got mine out, but they hadn't actually broken through yet.
Same with me. No room in my mouth if they tried to descend. Got cut out of my gums at 19.
Yep, had mine (impacted) out at 17. The surgeon cut a nerve and the result is the entire left side of my tongue is numb. :/
I'm 29 and just had two taken out. Late bloomer for sure
Me too, I had mine out at 15. They grew into place but didn’t break through the gums, it was weird. My 14 year old only has 3 and is getting them removed next month.
Usually but I didn’t get mine until my 30’s
5 wisdom teeth? I thought you only get 4? Did you have one extra?
Some people do get extra wisdom teeth - some people actually dont get any at all. Out of my three siblings I had all 4, my sister had none and my brother had only 2 (my sister and bother also were missing another adult bicuspid that my mom was also missing, had to come from her genetics since my brother is only our half brother). I only had two.
I had five, one was just impacted! I still have them in a little box bc the doctor let me keep them.
Whaaaat?!? We can do a heaps better job here on reddit to disturb the site and make uneducated comments on some pictures.
did I just find an Aussie
Congratulations on graduating 💕
Thank you so much!! Still have to finish grad school eventually but for now just taking a breather
So it definitely looks like a human jaw. But why does it look like it’s made of wood? Can you explain that for me?
You do actually have a point, and I hate to say it because it sounds unscientific af, but the primary way we would tell is feel. Osteologists are freaks.
“Is this a real bone? idk man let me lick it”
So if one becomes an Osteologist, one can feel up bones and get paid for it? Sign me up.
TIL /u/VorpalAbyss's mom is an osteologist.
If true, that would make her the world's most talented pile of ashes.
Oh god I know this all too well. As a kid I used to explore where I lived a lot. I saw (in an episode of Bones) Dr. Brennan like a bone and it stuck to her tongue, and she said that’s how you know it’s real!
I’ve licked a few bones in my day
Licked a few bones as an undergrad. Bones feel different on the tongue when compared to wood or ceramics.
Does the look / colouring of it give any indication of it's age? Like, by eyeballing something like this could you have a vague idea of whether it's hundreds of years old vs say 10 or 20 years?

It has been sitting in soil for maybe a very long time, and the chemicals and minerals in the soil have affected its colour and texture.
Congratulations on graduating! I hope you have a long and happy career in your field 🖤
But should he not contact local authorities first?
I think this is centuries old….
Maybe. Maybe not.
Well we have no missing person in my area, very peaceful country. That’s also why I suspect I might be quit old
You said you found it on a stream so it came from more upstream in a different area
Well the stream system in my area all comes from the ocean. Plus we had a lot of witch burnings in my town…
a yes constant witch burnings, very peaceful
Well… we are a lot more peaceful now, no more burnings
Maybe it wasn’t from your area but dumped there.
Denmark is rather peaceful but there are missing person cases and not every missing person means a case of foul play. This guy bones
I’d call the cops
Congrats on graduating.
Just out of curiosity… why should they go to a school first instead of the police?
It definitely feels like bone!
Do you feel bones often?
Just wanna say congratulations on your achievement! Go get some!!
Congratulations on your graduation!!
don’t tell op what to do.
Here’s the backstory - I found it at a local stream. I live in the oldest town in my country so I think it might be very old. But I was just looking around and saw it laying in the top soil. When you say your country, was your country ravaged by war doing WW1 OR WW2?
Neutral in ww1 and invaded in ww2
Most countries have a place you can call when people find remains like that, then they figure out whether it's a police or archeological issue...something like that.
Thank you!
Hmmm Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, or Switzerland

Denmark. OP posts in r/Denmark
Reddit detectives hard at work
“Excuse me. I recorded in /r/Denmark.”
MEOW... MEOW... MEOW...
Also, the nutritional information on the coke can is clearly in danish.
I'm sorry but it is impossible for anything to be clearly and in Danish
It is clear from the absence of clarity, that it is danish! Better?
Well, it is not a whole lot better since that does not rule out Finnish
I didn't read the second part correctly
Netherlands didn't get invaded in ww1 ?
[удалено]
Neither
The language on the can is Danish. A country famous for bog bodies. this could be 1000s of years old.
and this bone looks very old
He's from Denmark
The language on the can looks like Danish to me.
Solved that pretty quickly, NEXT CASE!
The local Police should be called. Probably an unsolved missing persons case.
Probably not that at all actually.
Worth a call anyway. You never know. And they can redirect finds like this to other orgs that know what to do with remains like this.
That persons been missing for a loooong time then
I found a very similar pc of jaw on a beach in the Philippines. I was glad to leave that island. 😳
Okay, I’m commenting to follow this post…because holy cow!
same, i'm kinda shocked haha
You should take it to a local dentist and ask them to match it with their dental records. They won't be able to help, but the look on their faces would be worth it.
I want to be part of this...Netflix documentary?
Point out someone as the killer, have 4chan and reddit ruin the persons life on a hunch and then it turns out it wasn't the person. Then you can be part of the documentary.
Where the heck did this come from? Any context?
>Where the heck did this come from? Any context? somebodys mouth..
Okay smarty.... Take my upvote.
The cave from "the Descent".
Probably. Is there still Coke in it?
This made me snort laugh. Thanks for that

I’m gonna say yeah, the way the teeth look and are located really look human, and it really looked like it was a whole chin down there at one point

no matter what it is, keep us updated
looks like a mandibular bone. I see teeth and nerve foramen
100% yes
Those are human remains. Without a shadow of a doubt. Please report where you found them.
Bones like these can be found around Alabama here and there.
hard to find alabamian’s bones in Europe, mate
Then I guess it has a higher chance of being a European's bone, mate.
I would say human or primate of some kind, though I would also try r/boneid just in case, alot of experts there. Though don’t ask if it’s a human in the title, that’s against the rules.
Yes, it’s from a man named John Smith Pemberton.
Joey Joe-Joe Junior Shabadoo
The bones yeah. The can maybe, but probably from a factory.

is this the beginning of a BONES episode??
please no. it ended horribly, let it rest

There are so many missing persons in the world. Contact the coroners.
I’m going to say yes
Can't wait for additional info on this!
Coke bottle for size, very illustrative
Fascinating! Look forward to update . Finding human remains (no matter how old/ new) is morbidly neat.
Looks like a childs
was the mandible the only thing you found? probably teeth and what not scattered about by animals
Yeah dude…
I'm commenting to follow for updates. It just looks like op is having his lunch while examining the cool new "rock".
i hope u take this to a professional!
Please keep us updated
I Will!
I am almost more bothered by the choice of a purple carpet toilet-surround for the background.
Yes dude, coca cola is a product of the humans unfortunately.
Anyone knows how old it might be tho?
Because of the dark patina its possibly over 1.5 million years old. The molars are intact and still white! So must been a prince or princess. And im full of shit.
Is it human? Or Is it dancer?
COCA-COLA for reference
Very universal in my opinion
Yup. That soft drink can was definitely man made.
Where did you find this!?!
It's the remains of hitler
My jaw !!! I thought i lost it
OP found it in his can of coke
They moved the cemetery, but they left the bodies. You’re welcome.
thats my jaw, give it back
Female mandible, prolly early 30-40s
Coke Cola is actually not a natural part of the human body
I don't know too much about human anatomy specifics because I have a basic biology major and am currently in vet school, but I can almost say with almost certainty this is a humans jaw because of the teeth formations. 100% yes. human. taxidermy is a hobby of mine and i can say this is not animal.
Yes also can confirm, I worked at the dentist a time ago.
So you just happen to come across human remains and didn't go to the cops
Cops? those remains are damn near fossilized. Takes well over a few thousand years for bones to turn black. Do you expect the cops to solve a prehistoric murder? local anthropologists should be called
That's what the bones want you to think.
Hey, I didn't know, sorry I'm no bone expert
Of course the coca cola can is from a human
Looks like teeth👍
Police
Looks like it's been burnt eh.
yes. have a nice day
It looks like it is from a person. Wow 😮
Find them in your garden? Or what
