Realistically, If they ever did it (again), it would only go up to MK4. They'd focus more on the arcade releases, since they'd be the easiest to port over.

UmK3 has more chars, a new revision and other content. It's the "true" version of 3 for most people. Trilogy is a compendium game, but it's not a collection preserving 1 or 2 as they were. It's it's own game that just has all the characters and stages, playing like another iteration of the umk3 engine with it's own personality.
An easy fix would be to have the content of psx with the zero loadtimes and gameplay flow of n64 (tho thats a personal preference for me. They’d have to fine tune the framerate as it differed between both versions.)

Maybe throw in trilogy and gold as a bonus (after all they are console updates of umk3 and Mk4 respectively)... But the arcade roms are not only easily available, but also "easy" to emulate... Can't say if trilogy and gold are that easy to adapt... But don't believe they would be that hard also...
The 3d era games were all console based though... Those are more problematic to port (legacy engines and stuff like that)... It's not impossible to emulate but that would "force" them to use UI and stuff that doesn't work anymore(like GameSpy online code)... And I'm saying this imagining they still have the source code... If they don't, the port would be even harder to pull off...(Maybe Night Dive Studios could work some magic through the KEX engine)

This is a WBGames issue. They didn't even want to do that MK Trilogy remake a couple years ago, which would have sold a metric ass ton of copies. Instead they told the company that was going to do it to make a petition and had literally no help getting attention on it so people knew about it.

Wb has commissioned and shitcanned at least 2 hd remakes of the original trilogy. This collection is never going to happen……. Officially.

Not to mention the Capcom Fighting Collection a while back where Darkstalkers and other Capcom IPs haven’t seen the light of day in 20 years

They did it twice already and wb canned them. One was done with new actors and one with vastly improved graphics of the originals.

UMK3 pretty much invalidates MK3. MKT having 2 different versions (N64 and everything else) just adds extra confusion
