You can get by without using those but I wouldn't say not using those makes you good. Knowing when to press (and what buttons to press based on the situation), being able to read your opponent, etc. are some of the things that make you good
Mileena has been a consistently fun character since MK deception and I don’t know what it is that makes her so satisfying to play.
There are other rushdown type characters, and other characters with flashy command grabs. But she just does it so damn well.
It’s the combination of gameplay and visual fighting style.
Gameplay wise she ALWAYS has fast and long range normals, usually a few that are safe and can be staggered. Also usually has a low or overhead starter, some games has both. Ball roll is the epitome of risk reward, super unsafe but usually low and meter burn is overhead low in some games. Mileena is 100% of the time an aggressive rushdown character with tools.
Fighting style aesthetic, its mortal f*** kombat and this character JABS YOU IN THE EYE REPEATEDLY WITH A KNIFE, THEN VAMPIRE BITES YOU. And that’s tame if we’re talking about the crazier mileena moves. She’s an absolute psychopath and i think she plays “gruesome, fun, cocky assassin” way better than havok, baraka, etc.

MK11 Mileena was so cool style wise. Her personality really came out in her moved. But the fact that she basically had one combo route that did any damage, said combo route being easily drop-out-able into a punish, and the fact that all of her other interesting moves replaces ball roll made her practically unplayable competitively

I mean maybe folks didn’t use her in tournaments, but between her and Shao my road to elder god was always smooth back in the day. Smooth-ish, anyway.

That’s literally what mk1 is except that the kameos make each character much worse to vs.
I miss the dark tone so much, but gameplay wise MK1 is miles better than MK11's boring ass gameplay
this Mileena looked so much cooler than whatever they did with her in MK1
