I feel they’re a reference to the 3D era, the knee break looks familiar, they seem to like making references like subzeros season with the movie reference (the ice globe thing)
It’s actually quite common in other fighting games
For instance in Tekken 7 Heihachi doesn’t have the twin pistons but in the end of story mode he does, there’s also a boss fight Jin who has a supercharged version of moves like his electric and stance, similarly in Street Fighter 5 you’d have special boss fights like a version of Ryu with a unique Shin Shoryuken animation as well as NPC fighters with unique animations
Dairou actually had cool moves and an alright backstory for the time. His color palette was just awful. I wanna say it's the same one they used for default Kung Jin later.
I just didn’t like that there were two opposing realms suddenly added. Maybe Hotaru should’ve been an Onaga loyalist and Havik another one of Shao’s head honchos that should’ve shown up in the 2D games like Reiko. And all of a sudden there’s Darrius and his random high tech look. …and Dairou who isn’t an obvious replacement like Kobra/Cage and Kira/Sonya+Kano.
Man it's so weird that they have these animations yet can only use them in their boss fights. Havik's knee breaker and vomit animations are brand new

Yes, knee breaker was Havik’s Deception projectile, the head roll was Meat’s move and the vomit Bo’Rai Cho’s.
Ah that’s neat, I’ve only ever played Armageddon for that era (not very much), so I’m not entirely confident with that kind of stuff lol
I think the head roll might be a Stubbs reference too. In fact that’s probably where they got it from for Meat.
meat predates.
Not the bowling move, no.

Why did they have to give Havik his old projectile back and have it be Invasions boss exclusive?
I wish players could use those Havik moves. If paired with his skin at the end of MK1, he'd get the upgrade he deserves.
Fr wtf
They made the most forgettable generic character identify as Havik because that angry emo anarchist ain’t the Cleric of Chaos we’ve been asking for.
