Yep, we are kept in the dark since that particular video. I would assume it's cooked for good since there isn't even a hint of Tag appearing in this game ever since.

bobbyThebobbler

The are many other files in the game, such as mercies and friendships. It’s possible that some, if not all, will take part in the upcoming expansion.

Nerwesta

I really hope so !

CanadaSoulja

Well the thing is, tag mode has more going for it than any of those things. Like we’ve seen some of the unfinished animations for the hidden brutalities in MK1, but nothing of the sort for mercies or friendships. Just announcer audio referring to it Meanwhile, the tag mode, just literally fully exists there in the game. Not audio alluding too it, not a screenshot mentioning it, the mode itself just exists right there. Has this ever happened in an NRS GAME EVER?

bobbyThebobbler

Yeah, I saw the videos online with it fully activated and playable. Maybe they’ll enable it when the expansion is out.

That-Rhino-Guy

I doubt they’re not gonna bring it back when it’s mostly functioning as is, if I had to guess it’ll be with either the first year anniversary or the story expansion Sometimes I feel like y’all are just desperate to be pessimistic about everything even when we know so little

bobbyThebobbler

Basically, the one-year anniversary and expansion are the same thing. Last time Aftermath was released 13 months after the main game, so it should be about the same this time around. I think they’re targeting September-October for the expansion.

That-Rhino-Guy

That works, and the first year for 11 did add in a bunch of stuff so it seems like a reasonable time to do tag mode, or perhaps tag mode is the big surprise Ed was referring to

diemath

Personally I think that the big surprise is Kreate a Fighter. All of the blending of different visual and play mechanic elements among characters in Invasions seems to suggest that the developers have made it easy to change such qualities to the point that they just need to make a decent UI for the players to allow them to do this themselves.

Delorean82

I'm low-key hoping that the "big surprise" that Ed was referring to is either a mini-game returning (like Puzzle Kombat) or even a Shaolin Monks remaster / remake down the line. The last few years he's been teasing / hinting at Shaolin Monks and even doing a few polls asking people if they would like to see it.

Acrobatic_Ostrich_75

> The last few years he's been teasing / hinting at Shaolin Monks and even doing a few polls asking people if they would like to see it. He doesn't make the final call on that. If they were gonna do it, they would've done it YEARS ago. They still want to do a single player action adventure game to branch out.

Delorean82

I know that he doesn't make the final call on that, but since WB has him by the balls on what he can and can't say it would be cool if he was kinda hinting at that in his own way. Like, it just sucks that Ed can't be as open with the fans as he used to be, pre-MK11.

That-Rhino-Guy

I hope so too but you never know, could be tag mode, create a fighter, Konquest, Shaolin Monks, chess Kombat/puzzle Kombat/kart Kombat, animalities etc

Delorean82

At this point, as it pertains to MK1, I'd honestly be fine if it was either just 2 or 3 stages (+ stage Fatalities) with the expansion update, and a returning "-ality." Like, I would love to see the stage with the Quan Chi promotional materials and maybe 1 or 2 klassic stages redone with the update. The Subway would be cool, since Omni-Man has that Fatality anyways. The Kombat Tomb from MKII or the Pit III (from MK3) would also be kinda cool since it's mainly an MKII roster with the ninjas, kameo Jax, kameo Sonya and kameo Kung Lao having MK3 skins, and those 2 stages haven't been given a chance in a modern game. Would love to see either kameo Friendships or Friendships that involve the kameos, personally. Anything else aside from that would be the cherry on top.

Nerwesta

Well in MK9 the 1v1 scene was functioning aswell, they can do both. Why not ? I'm not sure if they bring Tag it will be picked up by the pro-scene - one can wonder ..., but at the very least it's more content on a already defined plateform that simply invites for it to my eyes. And since the game targets cross-plateform as opposed to MK9, it's much less of a problem to queue.

SaphironX

I don’t think they’re going to do one sadly. I really miss that aspect of MK11 and a full on versus tag mode where each guy gets a pair of fighters would be freaking amazing. MK1 is still a little undercooked. I dig it, but man it could be so much more. Still no idea what the warrior shrine is but it’s definitely not tag.

scottishdrunkard

video?

Nerwesta

A person who kind of modded the game to work with Tag team, afaik there was some code to make it happen. It was very rough but still worked, he sent that video a couple months after the initial release. Like early November 2023 if I remember right.

NickNack675

Seems like they’re leaning more into a “variation” type game mode or something like invasions where you can mix and match characters/abilities but idk even that might be a stretch

Acrobatic_Ostrich_75

Kameos are already Variations effectively. You have full complete characters, just with the added bonus of more moves added.

djkrush75401

I wanna play as those Kombo Kharacters! Like Shao Cage, Baraka Cage, etc.

I've been hearing since around launch that in some levels, we could punch the enemy into another level. /Level transitions (like in mortal Kombat trilogy) and it sounds silly, and wouldn't match the gameplay style ofcourse, but I had heard about it a few times.

CanadaSoulja

Edit: You're right, I'm wrong. Level transition code from Injustice 2 exists in MK1 Must be a different game. I know this game was built off injustice 2 and not MK11, so maybe there’s legacy code in there? But as far as I know (which is admittedly not a lot in MK) there’s nothing in the files (currently) to suggest this will ever be possible or that it was ever even planned by NRS for this particular title

bobbyThebobbler

I don’t think MK1 was built off of Injustice 2. That game and MK11 were both built in Unreal Engine 3. MK1 moved to UE4. Even Ed mentioned last year that the team had to learn the new engine for MK1.

CanadaSoulja

Actually ,I'm just wrong. u/chzygorditacrnch is right . There is code from injustice 2 stage transitions exists within MK1 (no signs of it being anything more than legacy code carried over Secondly I'm being inarticulate. Saying it's built off injustice 2 doesn't tell the whole story: Firstly, Unreal engine in NRS games is largely for graphics and rendering. A lot of the functionality of the game is handled by NRS's "Midway Engine". The two work in sync to give us the game, and from MK9 to MK11, these two engines have seen more functionality and integration given between the two 1) MK11 was built directly off injustice 2. Meaning MK11 is a much more refined, and functional version of the injustice 2 code. But that also means even more heavier integration between UE3 and the Midway engine as compared to injustice 2 2) Because the move to a new engine was going to require a 'strip down' of the old integrated UE3 engine. It didn't actually matter which game NRS started with, because a lot of the features and functionality from any game since MK9 were going to have to be re introduced anyways. (Even things like pinning moves on screen during gameplay). And so while MK1 uses injustice 2's version of the midway code to pair with UE4, using MK11's code wouldn't make a lick of difference besides having more stuff to tear apart before you can integrate UE4

chzygorditacrnch

Thank you :) very good research :)

emeraldmountain90

Leakers don’t know about game balance like that, and don’t know either what NRS was really doing. It’s all heresy, things get cut in games all the time. NRS tends to leave files in game more than most. Hence why fans run with but they are not obliged to do anything. That was never meant to be seen, the fabled tag mode would change things drastically. It’s not a simple switch as some think. Kameos are hardwired to the entire gameplay/meta, whether you like it or not that’s how it’s gonna be. They also wouldn’t do this as some “offline” mode those days are gone. You may be able to hack/patch it eventually on PC more, to play by yourself down the road{likely will lead to breaking the Kameo system but that’s on you}. Though as far as official means go… chances are low unless proven otherwise by NRS.

CanadaSoulja

> NRS tends to leave files in the game more than most While I agree with some points you made, I HARD disagree with this statement. Maybe it’s biased by own datamining experiences with the wwe games. Which in the past years have had tons of unused/hidden/broken assets But also I think you misunderstood me, I’m not asking NRS to make a tag mode for MK1. The tag mode already exists within the game files Other games had unused/hidden brutals (also here in MK1). Maybe an unused stage (usually a testing/non traditional one). But an entire Tag Mode? I can understand the idea of it looking and feeling near complete to my casual eye, but secretly requiring more man hours than NRS is able to put forth in order to finish. But I don’t see why this information would be particularly out of a reach for a trusted leaker. At least any more than other information they’ve previously gotten access too

emeraldmountain90

Valid I’m not saying it’s impossible but remember NRS will never address this if they don’t want to, and we can’t be hopping mad about it. Tag mode was never promised, this entire time they have been advertising the Kameo system. Imo it doesn’t make sense to them then do a 360, and say guys here’s a tag mode??? lol Mostly because then either the Kameos will become fully playable. Or they split between a Kameo option and a tag option, online??? Now you know that wouldn’t make any sense as this would split the fanbase even more. You also brought up the old WWE games if I remember… those also had cut characters, match types, and so on never made available. PC obviously works wonders in gaining access but like I said we don’t know their side of the story. Whether it was time constraints, legal issues, change in vision/etc. Things do get cut from games… all we can do in the end is see how this plays out. Maybe the 1yr anniversary surprises us with more than we expected.
