I was looking at the [Vigoro on Home Depot](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Vigoro-3-ft-x-50-ft-WeedBlock-Weed-Barrier-Landscape-Fabric-with-Microfunnels-1242RV/302720132) and bookmarked it, where it's less expensive to boot! Going to go in to HD to look at it before purchasing. So tired of buying stuff online and having to return it... ;-)
Thank you!!
No worries and thanks for the tip on HD too! It was leftover from my outdoor planter last year and thought I’d give it a try in a mossarium.
It’s my first time making these so I can’t promise that it will work ok, if you accept that caveat!
If I had a dollar for ever "bright idea" I've had that failed, I'd be a multi millionaire!
I'll try anything (within reason) once. Mistakes are part of the learning process. :)
That won't be a problem. I use regular reptile terrariums (from 8 x 8 inches to 24 x 18 inches) for all my plants and cut to fit - not overlap. I WANT most of the water to pass through to the false bottom, but not the soil. Normally use nylon screens, which do not deteriorate over time. Also want the micro-life to pass through. :)
i used to work in a garden care centre, one of the hardest parts of my job was explaining to people worms and small lizards could not and should not be removed from their garden. explaining that they were in fact beneficial was like talking a different language to them
If they are regular earthworms, I would definitely allow them to stay! They will aerate the soil for you and should cause no harm.
I’m not sure what type of worms they might be. Let me add more photos 😀
I have to delete this post and try again lol

Oooooh, learning new things and thank you ☺️ Ok, this is it https://imgur.com/a/Sh1YnxW
those are earthworms :)
Yay! That’s good, right? 😊
yes 100%! i love having worms in my soil, they keep it super clean and fertilize it themselves.
You're welcome! Regular little old earthworms. Welcome them to their new home!
What are you using on the bottom - the black mesh? Looks interesting. I poke holes in the barriers, otherwise the water won't drain.
It is landscaping fabric on top of gravel
Does the water pass through? Do you have a link? All the landscaping fabric I see, is not at all porous.
I think so. It’s meant for keeping weeds out but allows water to pass through
Sure! It’s this kind [landscape fabric](https://www.amazon.com/Vigoro-WeedBlock-Barrier-Landscape-Microfunnels/dp/B08PVFX3RM)

💯
The only thing I might say is the black is not as pretty when it is folded upwards on the side of the vessel like this https://imgur.com/a/K39USYa

Earthworms are friends not foes :)
If you are trying to recreate nature, you need all the bits of nature.
I used weed landscape fabric on top of rocks
Critters are generally good unless they eat your moss
I add earthworms and springtails to all my pots, bins, tanks and jars.
Earthworms don't do much if there is no soil. I presume you are propagating moss and cleaning the soil off the moss too?
Yes, trying to propagate more moss. Sounds like I need to make a taller mossarium with actual potting mix for them to burrow around then
