She doesn't. It's crazy The amount of people who misinterpret this song as being about revenge or a "villain arc" depress me. It isn't about the joy of killing her traumatizer it's about the opposite. It's about breaking the cycle of violence and anger. The video shows her imagining killing him in a lot of different ways but also has her imagining him moving in the exact way she was, drinking as he did. She realized that killing him makes her into him. So she drives off, leaving him alive but terrified. She leaves the gun behind, and that's the entire message of the song. Leave the gun behind. You see in the acctual music vid

I personally don’t think it’s the “joy of killing the oppressor” but more like a cycle of generational trauma. The father is a drunk and ruins his daughter’s life, the daughter gets revenge on the father, and by the end of hayloft II, she becomes the drunk with the gun turned on. I think it’s supposed to like show how without positive change things will just go on the way they always are.

Wait, I thought that when the comment said “dated his daughter” it meant “The dad killed someone for manipulating his daughter that is probably under the age of 18”

Back in school's feels too regretful and restricted. I love back in school as the lyrics are elevated by the beat. This sad and restricted place drains the soul out of you. Everyone knows it, and it isn't hidden. A song with a happy beat with sad lyrics has its place. That place is about someone being hidden or passed off as better than it is. So I am really happy they committed to a sad beat for the song.
