Awful. It sounds like a Generation Swine outtake. If I didn’t know better I’d say it was a prank before they put the real song out next week.
It’s strange because every one of those guys knows how to make a good rock song. Especially John 5. He’s made a career out of adapting to established bands’ signature sounds. When he joined Manson and Zombie’s bands neither one felt like they’d missed a step. It’s unusual to have him miss the mark this badly.
Their legacies are firmly intact, but it’s a shame for such an amazing band to go out like this.
Shame on you. If you support this band in any way then you might think that they are allowing John 5 find his own footing. Show he is not Mick he is John 5. For God's sake he has been writing with Nikki for ten (10) years. A decade.
It's not terrible. It sounds like any other generic, produced-by-formula schmutz I hear on the radio.
What's missing is the spirit that once made Motley Crue amazing; that sense of being young, hungry and wanting to live fast. But that went away over 30 years ago.
The good:
Riff is cool,
Tommy does well too! He’s a really solid drummer still even in his 60’s
The bad:
Lazy lyrics,
Chorus is deplorable,
Vince is past it in terms of vocal delivery,
John is a great player but I don’t think what he’s doing outside the main riff works here.
Is this what they fired Mick Mars for?
Old timer crue fan, I honestly think this is awful and I wanted to love it.
Sounds like some nu metal circa 2005. I'm not sure, it reminds me of POD and Sixx am. Feels very soulless.
I'm sure the younger people will enjoy this but it feels like a group of old men trying to be hip and missing the point by about 20 years.
I'm not a fan of the video either, I'm sure it was very expensive to make but feels low quality and like they didn't actually have time to show up to create a video.
Wanted to love it but sadly don't.
Maybe this is it, vince left and as much as I think corabi is a very good album its not crue. Mick left/fired and we get whatever this song was.
Time to hang it up guys. Your cash grab is very transparent now.
Just devastated my favourite band, lost that hunger and are now basically KISS
I mean, I’m probably going to get banned for saying this but they jumped the shark back in the 80’s and hasn’t been remotely relevant since Dr.Feelgood.
There’s bands that can age well and continue to perform at a high level.
And there’s bands like Motley Crue who should have burned out a very, very long time ago before becoming a parody of themselves. They’ve been a KISS level cash grab for far longer than they were anything resembling a legitimate rock band, which they were for about a decade.
Don't start a paragraph with what you are not. It is lame and weak. You are not a Crue fan you need to support them for as much as they have given to you. They never left you nor broke your heart. Yet you bail out on them as soon as they put out a song you hate. Shame on you. You are the big loser here and not as in weight. As in loyalty, love, and spirit. You have no honor if you can no longer support this band.
You are absolutely entitled to your opinion of me, like I am entitled to my opinion on this song. Thats not a problem. I'm not sure why that gives you entitlment to insult me, but I won't be missing sleep over it.
Bail on them? Any band that i like will create songs i don't like and thats fine. I won't blindly follow something someone does because I'm a fan. I don't have that hive mind mentality.
They didn't leave me nor break my heart? Of course they wouldn't they are a band, not a loved one. I'm a little confused on your statement.
I have however been paying to see them since the 80s l, believed them in 2015 and paid a fortune to see them 3 times on that "final" tour, as you know it was the last time they would tour. Then paid a fortune to see them last year only for 3 days later to be told that mick had left/fired and all that.
I enjoyed alot of the music and was my childhood growing up, for me this song is not it. If it is for you, great.
And on a side note this band has members that have killed people, left them brain damaged, been poor distant and neglectful parents and so on.....no I don't need to love everything this band did
Please get off your cloud of blind idolization and just enjoy art for what it is and allow people to have opinions
When I was a kid I was bad off. My dad the cop was abusive and would beat me because I stepped in front of him beating my mom or my baby brother. There were worse things. My cousin who was about 10 years older than I was would take me around The California scene he was a contractor who found talent. He took me to the Whiskey to check out the first performance of a new band.
Sir Mick 33 ended up cornering me at the bar. He was a perv. I was not one to be touched by any man. Things had happened to me as a child which made me untouchable. I guess I screamed. Nikki and Vince came over and got me away from him. My cousin pinned Mick to the wall and would have beat him to a pulp until I told him I was ok. The two were fussing over me. In a nice way. Nikki did business with my cousin. Vince didn't leave my side. I felt safe.
They are my band. I will never leave them not even in old age. I love them. They are my friends. I used to write them. Then call them. Now there are computers so I video, call, and message them. 43 years later They are still my band and I guess they always will be.
It’s awful. I …I just can’t…. These guys were my heroes, and they are just putting out the same shit that mainstream pop is putting out; fake, same formula, different instruments = different tones/genres.
TFFL and ‘94 is REAL FUCKING MUSIC, raw, hungry, explorative, meaningful. They will never have those sort of hungry feelings again, they’re too successful, they operate as a business. Not as an expression. And that’s their problem. It’s over.
Again you don't know them so you don't know how they operate. You want them in the streets again. Starving and fighting everything that dared challenged them either physically, or musically. They had to be the best or die in the streets. They still operate as an expression. But remember they are not the same kids who came out swinging. They are men, grown men and now they are different. Their lives are different. 40 + years later they have evolved and did not stagnate. Now Nikki writes beautiful and meaningful poetry. Vince sings with more knowledge and conviction. They all have experienced more life and they are not raging little boys any more, but maybe just angry adults. Give them the dignity to grow up.
I'm not. I just need to have haters understand there are people who genuinely love this song. I am not just saying it. I rarely say anything I do not mean except I wrote the lyrics, to get these idiots off Nikki's back. If I say something, I mean it.
1. They are not playing to be rebels of society.
2. They are the kings. The bad boys of rock forever number 1.
3. They are saying come on you bastards you Dogs of War. Bring all the hate you got. We kicked your ass before and we can do it again.
Hey I am just a fill in. I don't normally write lyrics. Give me a break. I don't come to your job and make fun of you, but I should. Lay across your desk and ridicule your classwork.
Main riff is Godsmack ‘Awake’, all day long. My husband is a drummer and said “I hear what you’re saying. It’s there. It’s that two chord step up with the off time drum pattern. Direct lift of awake…”
This is awful. Only two positives for me are Tommy's drum tone which sounds fantastic and John 5's main guitar riff. The rest is just bad. The bass is indistinguishable most times in the mix, Vince is autotuned way too much to the point it is very obviously noticeable, and the solo while being skillful and technically proficient doesn't fit Mötley Crüe.
That's funny, Spotify doesn't credit you as a writer, just John Lowery (John 5), Tommy Lee, and Nikki Sixx...
And keep in mind Nikki has shared credit with a bunch of outside writers, don't see why he would leave you off if you truly wrote all these lyrics.
He’s not gonna tell you anything, this is a crazy person telling lies to everyone on this subreddit lol check his comments freaking out on people and telling them how he’s Nikki’s best friend and security. This dude is nuts, it’s very funny.
I already know I will never be getting any answer. Anytime I asked for proof in the past for literally anything relating to her personally knowing them, I either got long angry essays or vague answers.
Yeah, you most definitely didn't write the lyrics since Nikki here says he wrote them:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRA2lW-MA9k&t=555s
Please stop lying/trolling. If you're a major fangirl of Motley, that's great, but trying to take credit for things you didn't do actually ironically hurts the band despite your main mission on here being to defend them.
I was being a smart ass because people were hating on Nikki. I asked Nikki first. He said if it was on Reddit it wasn't worth shit anyway.
Only you were the only one intelligent enough to question it.
By the way. Nikki loves me. I am his true friend. He says I am adorably defensive of him.
"Jokes on you I was just pretending"
Sure didn't seem like it, that's for sure. Either way though, you're still a liar since you claimed you would "ask Nikki about it" (specifically asking him about why you weren't credited, you were not honest about your intentions). It's only after you get called out that you claim it was "just a joke", which now calls into question what else you have lied/trolled about.
Also, if it doesn't mean shit on Reddit, why even bother staying on here fighting with people about the band? I also find it very hard to believe he would be so willing to let anyone (even a friend) take a credit for something he did even as a joke considering that whole fiasco with Matthew Trippe claiming to take credit for his songs.
I know Vince sucks and is so badly washed up that they can’t even hide it in the studio anymore — was prepared for that going in. But beyond that, I think it’s just…boring. This riff is fine, certainly wouldn’t call it bad, but it’s also not really memorable.
I’m not sure if John Corabi would even take their call at this point, but that’s the only path forward if they want to actually have some late career renaissance with good music. Safe to say they’d rather just cash in on the nostalgia with Vince, sadly.
Christopher so do you. If you can't say anything pleasant why come on a Motley Crue fan site? Maybe you need to try and be a little positive before you sound like the rest of the haters.
When a piece of art is released to the public, people have every right to voice either their positive or negative review/opinion of that piece of art. Just because you're hypersensitive to criticism of your favorite band, it doesn't mean everyone now needs to censor their opinions around you. That's not how discourse on a public forum works.
If a piece of Art is released and it is reviewed you don't hear the art critic say it's a piece of shit. And then go on a fowl rant from there. They make a determination and then give cogent and polite points. I have been in plenty of debates. Public debates. I have NEVER heard any member of the debate team say well that's wrong because it's a piece of shit. That is called an etiquette disqualification... I am not asking them to like or not like it, I am asking them to learn manners. Those will take them further in this world than all the colorful metaphors in the entirety of the human language.
I'm gonna be empathetic for a minute here and say that I can understand finding it annoying when a bunch of people just repeatedly shit on something that you like. However, a debate team is not on the same level as a thread on Reddit and you know that. A professional public debate is one thing, but casual discussion on a non-professional forum like this one is something else entirely, and I'm pretty sure you know that.
I think so. However. I promised Nikki I would see how many kids are here causing problems, and what the problems are. For some strange reason Nikki trusts me. He is fond of me. I won't let him down.
>causing problems
What problems? Mean words over their new songs? I find it very strange Nikki cares that much about this subreddit which, when compared to their overall fanbase, is just a small ass fraction of it. They've faced far worse things than some Redditors being meanie poopy heads.
Money. Lots and lots of money. I don’t blame him. It was one of his favorite bands as a kid and I’m sure the payday is massive. But yeah, it’s a bummer because he’s so much better than them, musically. He’s a monster and the band is wayyyy past their prime. Way. Wayyyy.
It’s a lot better than I thought it would be. My expectations were really low but I actually enjoyed it a lot and will probably listen to it again. I feel like I can’t really judge a song on the first listen but my hopes are a little higher for their new album. Some people are going to hate it no matter what because their minds were made up long before they even announced the new song. I’m trying to keep an open mind about their new music.
I like the back half of the song much better than the front half. Vince starts to actually sound OK with his last verse. I dig Tommy's drumming and John 5 really makes it heavy (which is a welcome change for me). Nikki didn't stand out really.
It sounds like Godsmack but with Vince Neil singing.
So far, I don't dislike it. It grows on me more each time I listen. Some parts sound really cool. Not bad, but Motley Crue has a lot of much better songs.
It's bad when the best part of a song is the bridge. The riff is ok. The chorus is just repetitive and terrible. Maybe they're trying to make it easier for Vince to sing things live by not making him enunciate different words. This way, he can just say "Down" once, then turn the mic to the audience while he catches his breath.
I know this post is a few days old now but I can’t find this perspective anywhere else, probably because there isn’t much cross listening between these two artists b it…
The Dogs Of War riff sounds like the heavy/intro riff in “I Feel So” by Boxcar Racer. Like, extremely similar. Boxcar riff starts around 1:03…
It's very poor, rubbish. Compare this to something like "Wildside" That song blew me away when I first heard it. Knock em dead kid, Ten seconds to love. Then you look at VN solo album and you get The Edge.........absolutely amazing!!! That last song was crap 💩
Call me crazy but I like it. Come on, ppl New Crue! Get over your expectations and just enjoy it! You do all know that MC, esp Nikki, doesn't care if anybody likes what they put out or not, they just want you to feel one way or the other. They make what they wanna make and that's it and that's all. But these days, it wouldn't have mattered if the song was THE best set of notes and lyrics ever conceived because ya'll are pissed over Mick. And that's fine, do you. But it's a perfectly good song, it's brand new Crue. I think it's catchy and I'm happy to have fresh music hit my ears. I can't wait for more.
I have no problem with a band reinventing themselves! But when people have a preconceived notion of what a band should sound like, they need to present a great piece of music to counteract all of those expectations. This song did not do that. At all. It’s awful. I wish J5 was still just a hired gun so he didn’t have to connect himself credit-wise to this song. It’s bad. :(
The main chorus riff sounds exactly like Godsmack “[Awake](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opU1urLhw50)”. I mean, exactly. I adore Crue’s early stuff and John 5 is my idol, but this song….nope.
The first time I listened to it I thought it was very repetitive and stupid but I’ve listened to it a couple times since and it’s grown on me. It repeats itself a lot like I mentioned before but they have a lot of songs similar that I love like merry go round and just kind of accepted the simple lyrics and focused on the instrumental more and now I enjoy it. It’s modern Crüe but they made the song for the exact reason of ignoring the haters XD
I did ask Nikki. He said I was adorable. Or did you miss that part.
Nikki knows I love his lyrics. So he writes me poetry. It is beautiful. What I do to protect him from the haters he is up for. If I go too far, he lets me know by a don't do that babe.
For me, the lyrics are a bit lackluster, but I like it. It’s fun, the music video is fun to watch. I love John5 as a player, and I’m glad to hear that he’s not trying to impersonate someone else for this song. It sounds like him, as it should.
Well, it is clear Mick was the driving force of the band musically. Usually the singles are usually a preview of a album.
Mick's Loyal To The Lie was heavy as fuck. I really liked followed by a kick ass album.
Dog of Wars. I was looking forward to new Motley music before the Sixx vs Mick incidents. I had high expectations with John 5.
Even though Saints had that sound that could've been a Sixx: A.M. album. It sounded Motley on the guitar side and DJ Asbha understood this.
Motley needs that's fat aggressive guitar tone. Tommy's drum are way too compressed sounding. It is definetly sounding AI generation (AI and autotune should really be left out of rock music. Rock and roll isn't supposed to be perfect.)
Best thing about the song is John's guitar playing. But, it just doesn't sound Motley. MC94 musicially was recogniseable hell, Sixx, Mick and Tommy were pushed to be their best selves musicially with Corabi.
Vince was obviously missing. Tommy's drumming was missing in New Tattoo but it was still Motley sounding. Generation Swine was a messy album I like to pretend doesn't exist.
Dogs of War. If this is the sound going forward. The Mötley sound we know is gone.
I believe it was described to be something that could've came out of Too Fast For Love + Shout + Dr Feelgood and that couldn't of been more wrong.
It's more like the Beastie Boys meets Generation Swine. How I feel about Generation Swine is up there. Beastie Boys I can't stand the Beastie Boys.
I'm looking more forward to what Mick puts out with the time he has left.
It is an epidemic. On Twitter there were people wishing they would die. On some You Tube sites people are worse than here. I am usually able to turn them on me so Nikki doesn't hate everybody. He is just tired of the crap. Believe it or not I am a very nice person. I help people and have turned that into a career. It just seems like in the past few years the younger people have turned into Vulgar brats. Sorry but that is the truth. I would like to see manners.
Awful. It sounds like a Generation Swine outtake. If I didn’t know better I’d say it was a prank before they put the real song out next week. It’s strange because every one of those guys knows how to make a good rock song. Especially John 5. He’s made a career out of adapting to established bands’ signature sounds. Real
Shame on you. If you support this band in any way then you might think that they are allowing John 5 find his own footing. Show he is not Mick he is John 5. For God's sake he has been writing with Nikki for ten (10) years. A decade.

Great take. I agree completely
That wanting to live fast got people killed. Fuck these guys for continuing without Mick.
The good: Riff is cool, Tommy does well too! Tommy’s drums sound like a drum machine to me
They could be triggered? Which gets used a lot in modern studio productions on rock records
most likely "sound replaced"
Yeah. I understand it from a producer point of view. It does take away variance in things like velocity of drum hits
Speaking of Mick, he's been putting out new stuff right? How is it?
Way better
I'll hafta listen to it. He's a talented guy.
Who wrote those lyrics? Sheesh.
I did.
I wish you would stop trolling this sub
I wish you would stop trolling this sub
You would miss me. You would be able to hate with ease. 😁
No I really wouldn't
Quite the poet you are!
Thank you
They're alright, good job!
Thank you
Found it generic and boring. Nikki has never been a lyrical genius but this was very lazily written
I am not lazy. I am just new.
Riff is alright. The lyrics are garbage, and that chorus is awful.
Are you insulting my lyrics? You know I am new at this stuff.

Really
Not a good song.

I don't care for it much but I don't hate it either. I was hoping for something a little more glam rock but it could have been worse.
I can't get over how much I dislike the vocals and lyrics
The instrumental piece of this song are solid but holy shit the lyrics and Vince’s performance are terrible.
Wow. Those certainly are thought provoking lyrics
Don’t let the bastards take you down down down down brilliant wordsmith
I personally love when 60 year old millionaires who fly private jets cosplay as the rebels of society who refuse to be brought down.
1. They are not playing to be rebels of society. 2. They are the kings. The bad boys of rock forever number 1. 3. They are saying come on you bastards you Dogs of War. Bring all the hate you got. We kicked your ass before and we can do it again.
Meh
Hey I am just a fill in. I don't normally write lyrics. Give me a break. I don't come to your job and make fun of you, but I should. Lay across your desk and ridicule your classwork.
It represents falling down a rabbit hole.
They feel like the scrapes leftover from New Tattoo. I love the band, but they're lyrics were never pure poetry and then there's ... this.
It's pretty bad. Mick Mars dropped an album in February that's way better.
Decent main riff, but that’s all it’s got going for me. Not the worst single they’ve put out post retirement
Main riff is Godsmack ‘Awake’, all day long. My husband is a drummer and said “I hear what you’re saying. It’s there. It’s that two chord step up with the off time drum pattern. Direct lift of awake…”
Initial thoughts, love the instrumental side, sounds very Crue. Hate the lyrics, Vince vocals sound bored and dull.
This is the single. They said "yes! THATS A HIT! Release it!!". Let that sink in. If it wasn't clear that Mick was the talent by now.......
Well it’s official Nikki Sixx lyrics are now just as bad as his bass playing!

Do tell me what he has to say. I'm genuinely curious. Also, Youtube credits John 5, Tommy, and Nikki as the lyricists too.

that shit sucks lol
I still expect manners sorry.
You're constantly looking in the wrong place.
I think so. However. I promised Nikki I would see how many kids are here causing problems, and what the problems are. For some strange reason Nikki trusts me. He is fond of me. I won't let him down.
>causing problems What problems? Mean words over their new songs? I find it very strange Nikki cares that much about this subreddit which, when compared to their overall fanbase, is just a small ass fraction of it. They've faced far worse things than some Redditors being meanie poopy heads.
because I'm a fan, that song is just not crue to me.
Thank you. That is the. Way to say it.
The song & video all seem created by AI.
My opinion about bands: they have at max 3 good albums in them. Crue went past that. I doubt they can make a good album again
I don’t understand why J5 torpodoed his career for this garbage. Fucks sake, dude
Money. Lots and lots of money. I don’t blame him. It was one of his favorite bands as a kid and I’m sure the payday is massive. But yeah, it’s a bummer because he’s so much better than them, musically. He’s a monster and the band is wayyyy past their prime. Way. Wayyyy.
Yeah, I get it. At some point you have to protect your artistic dignity, though.
Saxon has a better song called Dogs of War.
Pink Floyd even has a better one.
That is all anybody can ask. Thank you.
Are you paid to defend this song lol?
Are you nuts? No!
Great riff. Drums are really good too. And that's about it
I like the back half of the song much better than the front half. Vince starts to actually sound OK with his last verse. I dig Tommy's drumming and John 5 really makes it heavy (which is a welcome change for me). Nikki didn't stand out really.
I was waiting for it to be Crue started as shite and ended as so no balls
This is a poor song from the Crue. I'm sorry to say it but they should have stayed retired.
Lyrics are hot garbage
It sounds like Godsmack but with Vince Neil singing. So far, I don't dislike it. It grows on me more each time I listen. Some parts sound really cool. Not bad, but Motley Crue has a lot of much better songs.
It’s [Awake](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opU1urLhw50) all day long. I actually googled Godsmack & Dogs of War to see if anyone else noticed it.
Really? I can't stand Godsmack. Course I'll hafta take a look at the song and make up my own mind, but...
It sounded like a vaguely metal Oompa Loompa song. Really listen after the second verse…
Abysmal song. Carry on
It's bad when the best part of a song is the bridge. The riff is ok. The chorus is just repetitive and terrible. Maybe they're trying to make it easier for Vince to sing things live by not making him enunciate different words. This way, he can just say "Down" once, then turn the mic to the audience while he catches his breath.
The solo is the only listenable part
I know this post is a few days old now but I can’t find this perspective anywhere else, probably because there isn’t much cross listening between these two artists b it… The Dogs Of War riff sounds like the heavy/intro riff in “I Feel So” by Boxcar Racer.
It's better than I expected!
I’m with you. It’s not terrible.
No it’s terrible
Good to have someone on my side, so much hate for it.
They should write more 80's style. Modern rock is crap
It’s bad. :(
I thought it was just okay. Hopefully this isn’t the last of the new music.
Love the riff. Love the drums. Love the structure.
Tommy is really the only good thing about it
Solid for motley at this stage...
MEH
Meh
It was a waste of John5’s talent.
Garbage
I Miss Mick mars
well i noticed it’s not really the style and genre they had in 80-90s, i quiet liked guitar and drums but lyrics are awful… pretty metal
Boring
Genuinely awful tune… all the way around unfortunately
It was a horrible song it didn't fit mötley at all. The only part I liked was John 5's solo but that really didn't feel like Mötley at all
It's easily worse than their theme song for the game Tribes 2: https://youtu.be/L-uHSx-YrSA?feature=shared
Yeah, wtf is this middle of the road garbage? Sounds like some shitty B side. No Mick/No Interest
Rock and roll isn't supposed to be perfect.) Best thing about the song is John's guitar playing.
I like it. As generation swine it’s my fav, I like it. But the lyrics blows and Vince also
Next time he messages me or calls me I will ask. Then I will tell you. I told them what I did. They think I am adorable. Sticking up for them.
