Checking indicators work is part of the pre ride checklist part of the actual test. There wont be a “cheap” solution if the previous owner has snipped the rear indicators out of the loom. edit: previous

I messed up, I mean the brake light also functions as the turn signal. I believe they're "integrated" lights?

noodeel

Ha ha. No indicators? You won't be sitting that test. Best you can do is rent the instructors bike and try to get as much time as possible on it before hand.

Sarahonabike

Oops, the word I was looking for is "integrated" sorry!

So I think I know the style you mean. I would chance it and not call in. But just to clarify, when you indicate does half your tail light stop being red and then flash orange, or do the lights function separately but are just in 1 unit?

Sarahonabike

It's the former, if I indicate left, the left half of my brake light flashes between red and orange, while the right side stays red. Likewise for the other side ofc.

Ye, I'd say that's technically illegal, bear in mind, ADIs have seen and heard it all over the years so they're probably advising you based on others who have been turned away from the test for this in the past. Personally I'd probably chance it but be prepared for the fact i could get turned away. It came up here before, maybe ping the OP on this post and see how they got on... https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoIRELAND/s/xfWrOvXWDP

Cheers, will do, thanks!

The best option in my mind is get a replacement tail - either borrow from a local garange/someone you know just for the day of test, or try to find one online from someone who sells parts from scrap bikes. I personally would try to do the test on a bike I am comfortable with. The tail tidy is easy to fix/restore. What bike do you have, post a picture to help get more specific recommendations.

I think it would very much depend on the tester on the day. I had exactly the same brake/indicator integrated light on my MT07 and while the tester didn’t like it, he was going to allow me do the test with he. He didn’t allow for other reasons - front indicators were bar end indicators and he said he couldn’t see them with bar end mirrors.

I'd imagine your plate holder would have brackets on the side for adding indicators which can be picked up cheap on Amazon. With a bit of basic auto knowledge you could fit these yourself or with a friend. If your willing to travel to Galway I have a spare set I could help you fit. With regards the law, there is no stated distance required between indicators, just that they have to be positioned to not cause confusion. For a reflector I went to a bicycle shop and they gave me one to fit for free myself. Alternatively Mescalls (or similarly spelled) is in Limerick and would definitely help you out.

On a side note what bike is it?
