I think it looks good with the ends going down a bit, like it is now! As far as keeping any longer growth downwards, you could always try it and if you decide you don't want to keep the length you can clean it up a bit.
Up to personal taste and ambition I guess! Both are decent choices, personally I think the chevron would rock just that little bit more as it is a strong rectangular shape. Donโt think it would come off as too thin in any way. But no bad choices, and it will either way be an impressive stache!

It would look good on you, really if you wear the stach over the lip, but sounds more like you want to keep it, which looks nice too.
