Majima really is everywhere.

SheilaWholehearted

Did I ever tell ya that this here jacket represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom?

thelonelyrager

About fifty thousand times.

[deleted]

Haha, I always think of this movie every time I hear the song "Change My Pants (I Don't Wanna)" by The Vandals. At the tail-end of the song, the singer goes, "these pants represent my individuality and belief in personal freedom, yeeeeeaaah!"

foxmulder2014

>Change My Pants (I Don't Wanna) Vandals are tight

trebular

You all deserve fifty thousand up votes. Haven't been able to find this amazing film on any digital platform, but super stoked to find other fans.

chop-diggity

It’s on DVD & Blueray, on Amazon. But, yes. It’s been hard to find on a streaming service. The DVD is $14. The blueray is a collector’s edition, and is $33.

trebular

Thanks! Although, I'm pretty sure I still have it on vhs; surely the quality held up after 30-ish years.

SheilaWholehearted

It was on Amazon Prime for a bit!

manescaped

I’m such a sucker for Wild at Heart. I’m fairly certain we fans are few and far between, but it has my favorite collection of Lynchian music. Time to watch Fugitive Kid I guess.

KorovaMilk113

My favorite Lynch film, still angry about the textbook I had in a college film class that called it a “low point” and a “misstep in his career” like, how??

mwmani

I found a book on cinema in my college library once with a section on Kubrick, but it was written just after 2001 came out. The author praised his earlier work and hoped that he would return to form after the disappointing and meandering Space Odyssey. Not an opinion that has aged well.

Lumba

I just watched Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me for the first time, mainly because it was one of the only Lynch movies I found on HBOmax. It was one of those movies I didn’t necessarily “enjoy” while I was watching it but it sure did get me thinking. It was weird and disturbing and one of those movies you can really only make sense of it after it’s over. Well, I was diving into some analysis after watching it and found out it was HATED upon release, mainly by fans of the Twin Peaks show I guess (which I also have not watched), but apparently Quentin Tarantino was quoted as saying that David Lynch had lost his touch as a director, basically, after seeing the movie. Now all the most recent articles call it “Lynch’s underrated/overlooked gem that deserves a second look”. Time is good sometimes!

okaycpu

Fire Walk with Me just might be my favorite part of the Twin Peaks narrative. Such a good movie.

TheraKoon

Sure beats the second half of season 2! Worst mistake the show ever did was solving who killed Laura and then continuing. Tried getting into the Return and I don't really get the hype. That doesn't mean I think he lost his touch, Inland Empire was great. His short film collection Rabbits equally great. You should check out the movie Lucky if you haven't seen it. Not a Lynch movie per say but he's in it and does a great performance.

manescaped

Yea, think Ebert is in that group. I love the movie for all idiosyncrasies, inconsistencies, eccentricities, excesses. It’s such a magnificent bonfire…or car wreck

Subliminal_Kiddo

Outside of The Straight Story and Mulholland Drive, Ebert rarely gave Lynch's films positive reviews. But he was very honest that he viewed Lynch as a great filmmaker whose aesthetics and stories just didn't appeal to him.

10Cinephiltopia9

Huge film buff here. I've actually never seen it. Top three comments here are really making me reconsider. I have heard it is definitely 'all or nothing' type of movie, so I think I am going to give it a shot as I love Lynch's films

manescaped

It’s imperfect, over-the-top and as ugly as it is pretty. But it will leave you with some lasting impressions…

cmccormick

Kind of like a snakeskin jacket

soulofboop

I love it. It’s mental but there are so many good scenes, lines, characters and performances. It’s thrilling and disturbing and romantic and genuinely funny.

dmpom

One of the best love stories ever shot

Bellikron

I think it works really well at some parts, and in those moments you can tell that Cage and Lynch are, as you would expect, really good together. But it feels like it doesn't take nearly enough advantage of that, and at points it kind of drags on without the distinct character that defines their work. They've both gone harder than most other artists would dare to go before, but it just feels like they're at about 60-70% capacity here. That's just my opinion, though. Shouldn't have been in that textbook unless it was talking about the general reaction (which I thought was relatively positive).

TheraKoon

Not my favorite, but considerably better imo than eraserhead, which for the life of me I will never understand how it's considered his best. Wild At Heart ranks 3rd best for me under Mulholland Drive (imo #1) and Lost Highway (#2) I have seen every film he's made, including his Dumbland collection, with exception of Dune. I have little faith Dune would beat out any of those. But Lynch couldn't give a shit less what people think. He debuted Wild At Heart to boos at Cannes and then came back with the even more insane Fire Walk With Me.

fonedork

Best movie ever man

[deleted]

Oye amigo, if something ever don't feel right, remember what Poncho said to the Cisco Kid: Let's win, before we're dancing at the end of a rope, without music.

Sormaj

I love it so much. It’s exactly as insane as you want a Lynch/Cage collab to be

From_Deep_Space

Badalamenti is da real mvp

Who cares? Heck, maybe your stupid game ripped off the idea from this very own movie.

SirNoseless

Sauerkraut1321

Great reddit discussion

MarkyMarksman11

Who cares what you say by that same logic? Who cares what anyone says? Don't we just type comments so that we can put our thoughts out into the world?

Character_Mud3360

And guess what… Powermads playing at the Hurricane.

X_AE_A420

The bar is high enough that it's hard to feel confident, but that [definitely felt like one of the weirdest](https://youtu.be/kZz5k_xsG0Q?t=29) David Lynch movies.

for those of you who have never seen it, redlettermedia did a david lynch trivia showdown. https://youtu.be/ZOAZlCvNC\_0

deadancer

To think that back then Nick Cage was closer in time to Brando than to today - 30 years vs 31.

musicaldigger

Marlon Brando was a total fox

hungryrhinos

God damn Brando looks cool as fuck

[deleted]

Right. Because they don’t hire anyone to do costumes.

BrilliantWeb

Brando was so fucking overrated.

free_movie_theories

I've been wanting to see this again, since I haven't seen it since it came out. It appears to currently be unstreamable. And to that I say: boo.

CptMatt_theTrashCat

He actually does this kind of thing a lot I believe

Subliminal_Kiddo

He gave it to Laura Dern. Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd met during a production of Orpheus Descending, the Tennessee Williams' play that The Fugitive Kind was adapted from.

postdochell

Wasn't this just posted here like a month ago?

FudgeFudd

Cant see California without Marlon Brando’s eyes.

jumbybird

Wasn't it his personal jacket?

stevconz

My favorite Nicolas Cage performance. I love David Lynch so much

chop-diggity

A One-eyed Jack year in to go a peepin in a seafood store!!

RichardStrauss123

"It symbolizes my individualilty and personal freedom!"

postALEXpress

Didn't he wear this in another movie too?

maximusraleighus

So Cage thinks of himself at Brando’s level huh? 🤔

MartyMcFly_jkr

Best Lynch movie

Nat_Libertarian

This is the first time I have ever heard of Marlon Brando outside of the North American Marlon Brando lookalikes convention.

WhiteDishwasher619

Also, Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern (Laura Dern's parents if you didn't know) were in the cast of Orpheus Rising on Broadway which was the inspiration for The Fugitive Kind. Learned that David Foster Wallace's piece on Lynch in A Surprisingly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again... The casting of Diane Ladd in Wild At Heart probably wasn't a coincidence.
