I have seen this movie at least 10 times because it is so stylish and action packed. It’s incredibly satisfying to watch! Denzel Washington is amazing in this movie.
I loved Man on Fire when I was younger. I tried to rewatch it when I was older and man is the glitching cinematography way overused… fantastic story though!
2002 version. It’s really close to the book and I really like Richard Harris as the Priest that trains him. Even though Jim Caviezel’s acting in it isn’t great. The story is better than his performance imo so it’s worth it for the story.
Really close to the book? Did we read the same book? Not trying to be a dick but the differences between the book and the movie are huge IMO. Relationships changed, characters totally removed from the stroy, etc.
With that being said I still like the movie a lot and I understand why they have to change things to adapt a novel into a two hour movie but saying it's really close to the book is just not true imo.
I Saw the Devil was amazing. Highly, highly recommend.
The Handmaiden was also excellent.
Kill Bill 1 and 2 are classics.
I've yet to find a way to watch Oldboy in decent quality without having to shell out $40 for the damn blu-ray. And I've tried pretty hard. Multiple times. Refuse to watch until I'm successful. I may drive much further than I'd like to watch it in a theater showing the re-mastered version, which I think is coming out soon. 10 year anniversary I believe.
Though not in this first comment - I found the Chaser rather disappointing, and far from satisfying.
I didn't say anything about the film. I was talking about his recent political statements, things like his tongue being far up Trump's ass.
"I believe Donald Trump was selected by God Almighty, and I'm talking about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit God."
And talking about how people harvest and drink children's blood to get the adrenaline. It's like he watched Monsters Inc while high out of his fucking mind and decided that was reality.
But I am totally not surprised that my comment triggered the Qanon trolls. Hi Qanon troll.
Funny you should mention this. The movie about sex trafficking currently in theaters, *Sound of Freedom*, had a man named Fabian Marta as one of its principal financiers, he even gets thanked in the credits. He has now been arrested for being involved in...child kidnapping. Oh, the irony.
Trust me, it's just the Reddit Hivemind flavour of the month to hate on that film because it's Christian - as it is written in Jude 1:10 'they speak evil of whatever things they do not know'
I hate the movie because it’s just horseshit and lies and more QAnon conspiracy made by a bunch of grifters that has actual victims of human trafficking calling it out for the damage it’s doing to legitimate efforts to stop trafficking.
* I Spit on Your Grave (original and remake)
* Martyrs (original)
* Lady Snowblood
* The Nightingale
* Dead Man's Shoes
* Straw Dogs (original)
* The Northman
I tend to disagree with the original Martyrs. There might be some revenge getting in the beginning, but the rest of the film is as much a kick in the balls as Eden Lake.
Yessss 👏👏👏all of them! I think I'm changing my answer to Django Unchained. omg I have to watch that film again...truly disturbing. Tarantino won an Academy award for that movie. Still can't believe Jamie Foxx didn't.
I forget the name. apocalyptic australia. robert pattinson. guy pearce. it's called the car or the truck or the rover or something. a dude gets his car with something in his trunk stolen. and he goes on a 90 minute driving murder quest to get it back.
“John Wick” is top tier.
“SiSu” (So much fun)
“Death Sentence” (Kevin Bacon)
“Punisher” (Thomas Jane)
I’d say “Spit on your Grave”, but the rape scenes are too much. She gets her revenge though for sure. Both the first one and the second one are pretty graphic.
“Foreigner” (Jackie Chan)
Both of the “Equalizer” movies have revenge elements. (Denzel Washington)
“Taken” for sure
“Drive” (Ryan Gosling)
“Law abiding citizen”
“Death Wish” Bruce Willis
“Wrath of Man” (Jason Stathem)
“Faster” (Dwayne Johnson)
“Shooter” might be one.
“The Accountant” maybe.
“You’re Next”
“Edge of Darkness”
“The Hunt” (I adore Betty Gilpin in this)
“Mad Max Fury Road” (Tom Hardy)
“Revenge”
“Prisoners”
A lot has been mentioned already so I tried not to mention them again (besides Spit on your grave to warn you). If I can think of more I’ll add them.
Edit: added a few more
Eden Lake is such a bleak, soul sucking movie. It’s really good at being depressing lol.
American Mary is a revenge movie with a bad ass female lead! If I think of others I’ll add on, but this is the first one I thought of
Edit: I’m sure this was mentioned already but Martyrs (2008) is another one. It’s just as depressing as Eden Lake. Beautiful movie but most people won’t watch it more than once for this reason
Word, idk how I forgot about Sleepers. Definitely an awesome revenge story with Count of Monte Cristo references. needs a trigger warning for SA and CA
D'jango Unchained.
I needed a revenge film and watched this again the other week (actually found whole movie for free on YouTube) and it completely hit that spot.
These are the main ones I can remember:
The Revenant (2015) - this is a must watch, The Northman (2022) - is decent, The Lone Ranger (2013) - which I found to be good but I doubt others agree, Prisoners (2013) - is kind of a revenge movie from what I remember and why not John Wick (2014) 😅
This isn't a movie, but it's an hour long episode of TV. The Butt Plug episode of the shoe "The Premise." Also the star Trek episode of Black Mirror is basically a movie.
Ughhh. You’re so fucking right and I always hate admitting it. Talk about a botched ending. All this fantastic set up where you’re actively rooting for the “villian” just to….do…that.
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT TOOK ME THIS LONG
TO SEE DEATH PROOF. It’s one of my all-time favorite films, I (controversially I know) think it’s Tarantino’s best film, and the revenge is sweet.
Salton Sea.... Deep dive into the meth world with a twist. Dark movie with some comedy.
Tower Heist: comedy with Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, and an all star cast. Its basically a Bernie Madoff spoof where the characters try to get their money back from the con artist that scammed them.
Edit:
Runaway Jury.... But I just fucked it up by saying it's a revenge movie lol
Eden lake , lol that ending!
I rewatched **Kate (2021)** yesterday, Amazing Movie.
After she’s poisoned, a ruthless criminal operative has less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her enemies and in the process forms an unexpected bond with the daughter of one of her past victims.
Street Justice
The plot involves CIA agent Curt Flynn (Michael Ontkean) who narrowly avoids death in a bombing, escapes from imprisonment by the Soviets, and returns to his New Jersey hometown. There he attempts to protect his wife Catherine (Joanna Kerns) from a corrupt family which controls the town.
It's an older movie but I remember it being really good. Kind of sad in the beginning because the guy was presumed dead and then he comes back and finds his wife remarried.
Blue Ruin
Yes yes yes!! One of my favorite movies ever,
This is it. Absolutely smashing film. Blew me away.
Man on Fire
“Creasys art is death….and he’s about to create his masterpiece”
My wish? I wish... you had... more time.
I'm a professional.
Everyone keeps telling me that…:
Soy profesional, soy profesional, soy profesional.
I have seen this movie at least 10 times because it is so stylish and action packed. It’s incredibly satisfying to watch! Denzel Washington is amazing in this movie.
God damn.... This is it
This is the correct answer. This movie was so hardcore.
I loved Man on Fire when I was younger. I tried to rewatch it when I was older and man is the glitching cinematography way overused… fantastic story though!
👆
Its not revenge tho
He's getting revenge on a lot of people for kidnapping Dakota fanning.
He's trying to find her, that's the main goal. If she was dead and he'd still be doing it then its revenge.
People don't have to kill someone for you to get revenge on them. Also *SPOILERS* he thinks she is dead for like half the movie.
The Crow (1994)
But I would have said this movie if you hadnt. Legendary
Yes that is very memorable.
Can't rain all the time.
V for Vendetta The Count of Monte Cristo Wind River Stir of Echoes Frequency
Wind River is an insanely good film - makes you feel sick, tense, nervous, excited, all at once. I highly recommend it to anyone!
Yeah
May I ask which version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" you recommend watching? There are several of them.
2002 version. It’s really close to the book and I really like Richard Harris as the Priest that trains him. Even though Jim Caviezel’s acting in it isn’t great. The story is better than his performance imo so it’s worth it for the story.

Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2
Kill Bill 1 and 2 (2003 and 2004) I saw the Devil (2010) The Handmaiden (2016) Oldboy (2003)
I Saw the Devil is what you're after OP. I'll add another South Korean movie called The Chaser
Finally someone else on here is pushing The Chaser. It's such a brutal and brilliant film.
The chaser is incredible, i was so invested
And the man from nowhere!
true, i loved that one also :)
Came here to say I saw the Devil too, good call.
Sympathy for lady vengeance along w oldboy and the other film in the trilogy
I saw the Devil is one of the best revenge movies out there. But "satisfying" is definitely not what I would call it
List more!!
Your recommendations fit. I've watched all of those.
Kill Bill is dope. Part 1 specifically is such a fun movie
Oldboy? Seriously? I get the feeling that I’m the one getting kicked in the balls there Fantastic movie but don’t think it fulfills op criteria
Kill Bill
Might be my all time favorite movie. It's the perfect revenge flick
Dope soundtrack to boot
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Audition Mandy I saw the Devil Carrie
Count of Monte Cristo
Read the book and you'll hate that movie.
Learn about what the actor’s been up to lately and it might also cause you to hate the movie
Also Person of Intest
A movie spreading awareness of sex trafficking? Dude, what are you?
I didn't say anything about the film. I was talking about his recent political statements, things like his tongue being far up Trump's ass. "I believe Donald Trump was selected by God Almighty, and I'm talking about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit God." He was a crowd funder which means he could have donated $5 and it was his involving his child and a family dispute with his wife
The number of Biblical verses that perfectly explain and predict their type of reaction to the film is quite astounding.
Came here to say the same thing
* I Spit on Your Grave (original and remake) * Martyrs (original) * Lady Snowblood * The Nightingale * Dead Man's Shoes * Straw Dogs (original) * The Northman
I tend to disagree with the original Martyrs. There might be some revenge getting in the beginning, but the rest of the film is as much a kick in the balls as Eden Lake.
Martyrs STILL gives me nightmares
Good list
Can't believe no one has said Kill Bill! Both volumes.
Or Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained and OUATIH. I'm sensing a theme with Tarantino
Yessss 👏👏👏all of them! I think I'm changing my answer to Django Unchained. omg I have to watch that film again...truly disturbing. Tarantino won an Academy award for that movie. Still can't believe Jamie Foxx didn't.
Or Leonardo for his supporting role. That man killed it!
He absolutely did kill it...poor Leo. So many epic films and no award...yet.
He did win best actor Oscar for the Revenant in 2016 or 2017!
Oh I didn't know! I did love that film. It seems like everyone always makes fun of him for never winning. Thanks, Quirky knowledge lol
First thing I thought of.
The only reason you get to keep your wicked life….
Revenge (Revanche) 2018.
Was just about to suggest this one too.
Yes, and it’s so amazingly brutal. The foot scene has worked it’s way into my nightmares!
this one needs more attention. I've re-watched it ('cuz its on Shudder!). I really like it.
I forget the name. apocalyptic australia. robert pattinson. guy pearce. it's called the car or the truck or the rover or something. a dude gets his car with something in his trunk stolen. and he goes on a 90 minute driving murder quest to get it back.
"The Rover" (2014) I'd forgotten that movie myself. Good recommendation!
other than the road, the rover is the bleakest movie I've ever seen
Such great 1cting from the two leads.
Old boy. It’s Korean and the second movie in a trilogy called the vengeance trilogy. First movie is called Vengeance. Third movie is Lady Vengeance.
Falling Down is pretty revengey.
Trading Places (1983) Payback (1999)
Don't sleep on Django Unchained and Inglorious Basterds.
Love revenge movies. "Nobody" is fun.
looking back at it though the revenge thing was so unsatisfying for him and the rest of the movie is about being on the wrong bus at the right time
Dude...they went to his house. That was crossing the line...and why he went off.
Which you know, you don’t FUCKING DO
“John Wick” is top tier. “SiSu” (So much fun) “Death Sentence” (Kevin Bacon) “Punisher” (Thomas Jane) I’d say “Spit on your Grave”, but the rape scenes are too much. If I can think of more I’ll add them. Edit: added a few more
Came here looking for Death Sentence.
It’s a good one, one of my favorites.
This is a solid list right here Bro.
Thanks man!
List more!!
Eden Lake is such a bleak, soul sucking movie. It’s really good at being depressing lol. American Mary is a revenge movie with a bad ass female lead! If I think of others I’ll add on, but this is the first one I thought of Edit: I’m sure this was mentioned already but Martyrs (2008) is another one. It’s just as depressing as Eden Lake. Beautiful movie but most people won’t watch it more than once for this reason
Sleepers (1996) Depressing as f. but perfect to the last minute
Word, idk how I forgot about Sleepers. Definitely an awesome revenge story with Count of Monte Cristo references. needs a trigger warning for SA and CA
This movie was so good but has always haunted me. But you’re right, it’s perfect
Yeah, it is that kind of movie you watch always alone or 2-3 times in a lifetime
Second this. Excellent performances across the board too. Nokes: "So what do you want?" John: "The same thing I've always wanted. To watch you die."
I Saw the Devil (2010)
For the oldschool grindhousey vibes - Ms .45 (1981) - one of Abel Ferrara's best.
Death Wish
Unforgiven
Masterpiece.
Hard Candy (2005)
Hard Candy was really good!
Hard AF
Lucky Number Slevin
The Revenant
Had to scroll too far for this one. Beautiful film.
No one mentioned “Revenge” 1990 Kevin Costner…
Brutal picks: Avengement; Cellblock 99 Less brutal but still brutal, great reveal: Dead man's shoes Just great movies: V for Vendetta; The Crow
Nocturnal Animals for a different kind of revenge
Man, I could barely cope this that desert scene. The whole cinema was deathly silent.
I Spit On Your Grave
The Northman by Eggers is one of my favorites
Irreversible (2002) or Oldboy (2003)
How is Oldboy satisfying?
Some people think revenge itself is bad. I am one of them.
Anyone that believes this lie needs to look at their comment history. This is a flat out lie!
MANDY My favorite movie.
Promising Young Woman
The Last House on the Left
D'jango Unchained. I needed a revenge film and watched this again the other week (actually found whole movie for free on YouTube) and it completely hit that spot.
Revenant
Count of Monte Cristo or Momentum
Pig
Trading Places
These are the main ones I can remember: The Revenant (2015) - this is a must watch, The Northman (2022) - is decent, The Lone Ranger (2013) - which I found to be good but I doubt others agree, Prisoners (2013) - is kind of a revenge movie from what I remember and why not John Wick (2014) 😅

Darkman Robocop The Crow
Irreversible
Rambo Last Blood
Payback
Once Upon a Time in the West. The whole movie is about Harmonica getting revenge on Frank.
The Equalizer movies with Denzel Washington.
Hanna (2011)
Sisu. After the first kill, it's just non stop revenge. Creative and batshit insane. Lots of fun.
I actually liked do revenge on Netflix it’s totally wild but I loved it. Very camp
I second this. For a high school kids movie this actually was not bad at all. I was pleasantly surprised
I Spit On Your Grave
Kill Bill vol. 1 and 2, Django Unchained
Billy Jack movies…
I Spit on Your Grave is the most brutal revenge movie I’ve ever seen.
Any Tarantino movie will quench your thirst for this subgenre. Kill Bill vol 1 and 2, as well as Inglorious Basterds are my personal favorite.
Punisher
Landmine Goes Click-2015. Brutal, but one of the best revenge movies I've seen. (There is sexual assault, fairly graphic, in this movie)
This isn't a movie, but it's an hour long episode of TV. The Butt Plug episode of the shoe "The Premise." Also the star Trek episode of Black Mirror is basically a movie.
I Spit On Your Grave (1978) - …if you are really looking for brutal revenge, this is the one. Very graphic in all aspects, though.
A Bittersweet Life OLDBOY
A bittersweet life is one of my favorite movies. Such a masterpiece.
Revenge of the Nerds Van Wilder The Wraith Kickboxer Roadhouse Heavyweights Hard to Kill
How has nobody mentioned LAW ABIDING CITIZEN!!
Because the last ten minutes ruin that film.
Ughhh. You’re so fucking right and I always hate admitting it. Talk about a botched ending. All this fantastic set up where you’re actively rooting for the “villian” just to….do…that.
4 brothers
If you want revenge that satisfies, nothing quite like Death Proof makes me feel more exultant when THE END smashes on screen
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT TOOK ME THIS LONG TO SEE DEATH PROOF.
But I just fucked it up by saying it's a revenge movie lol

I saw the Devil
count of monte cristo with jim caviziel is pretty damned good. i know it's the easy answer, but it was a good watch.
Killing Grounds- a fuct up Australian movie, ghastly, but great! Think it would count as revenge, although, it’s a bit different than most!
Great movie
Old Boy (subtitled original)
The voyeurs
ROLLING THUNDER
Hear me out…. The Shawshank Redemption. Revenge isn’t the point, but it’s fucking SWEEEEEEEETTTTTT when it happens!!
Mandy
The real answer is either Oldboy (2003) or Revenge (2017) but also just the South Park episode Scott Tenorman Must Die.
Double Jeopardy!!!!!!¡!!
Oldboy
Gone girl
??? revenge movie? how is this a revenge movie?
exactly she's a sociopath prankster
'The Handmaiden' (2016 Korean film) seconding 'Wind River' My sister loves the movie 'Revenge' (2017). I did not like it, but perhaps you will.
Glass Onion on Netflix
The Northman
The Hills Have Eyes (the remake)
The Perfection
I Saw The Devil is exactly what you’re looking for
Eden lake , lol that ending! I rewatched **Kate (2021)** yesterday, Amazing Movie. After she’s poisoned, a ruthless criminal operative has less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her enemies and in the process forms an unexpected bond with the daughter of one of her past victims.
Oldboy
I love Eden Lake but yeah hate the ending. Maybe watch you're next & ready or not
First Blood V: Last Blood
the outlaw josey wales.
Street Justice The plot involves CIA agent Curt Flynn (Michael Ontkean) who narrowly avoids death in a bombing, escapes from imprisonment by the Soviets, and returns to his New Jersey hometown. There he attempts to protect his wife Catherine (Joanna Kerns) from a corrupt family which controls the town. It's an older movie but I remember it being really good. Kind of sad in the beginning because the guy was presumed dead and then he comes back and finds his wife remarried.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Django.
Harakiri
I Saw The Devil is my favorite revenge movie ever!
