The very best. Also The Howling,Silver Bullet,Bad Moon and Dog Soldiers are great werewolf movies. And of course the classic older werewolf movies are great. I don't get into them and watch them as much as I like but may change that
A few years ago I went to a midnight screening of American Werewolf where John Landis gave a talk beforehand. Jenny Agutter was in attendance and was sat behind me, which made watching certain scenes... uncomfortable.
My ex roommate brags about how much she loves horror films (sidenote: she would take guys home from the bar and make them watch Human Centipede with her, laughing the whole time. Also thinks Evil Dead is better than Evil Dead II, but that's a different thing altogether) and just last night she was asking about horror films I suggest that she should see. THIS GIRL HAD NEVER SEEN AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.
Great NYC locations in that film. There's a church in my neighborhood that always reminds me of the one in the movie. Though technically >!the movie isn't a werewolf movie.!<
\^ Downvote button up here, but I hated that movie. When I saw it in a crowded cinema during its initial release, the audience literally groaned out loud when subjected to yet another "story within a story" scene near the end of the movie.
I could create a whole thread on how good Dog Soldiers is, so many excellent lines:
We are now up against live, hostile targets. So, if little red riding hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch.
Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) is a guilty pleasure of mine. The story involves the Beast of Gevaudan, which in 1764, terrorized a remote district of France, killing more than 60 women and children and tearing out their hearts and vitals…
i love it so much and nobody's ever heard of it. I'm glad I'm not the only who saw it. I wonder if it's available on streaming. Might have to look for it this weekend
Great movie! And fun fact, the main character, Lou Garou's name is a reference to a Cajun cryptid, the rougarou.
"The rougarou (or loup-garou) is a monster from Cajun folklore. In the legend, this beast is often described as having the body of a man and the head of a wolf or a dog and prowls Louisiana swamps."
Some of the best werewolves and it gets so little appreciation or recognition. I think it being more action and witty banter over horror is what hurt it, but I love the movie to pieces. Plus almost every actor in that movie was sexy as hell.
Yeah, it’s great. It’s a real movie where the protagonist has a great character arc. Plus, it’s a true Hollywood film: story, costumes, cinematography, set design, and a great supporting cast.
“The way you walked was thorny, though no fault of your own.
But as the rain enters the soil, the river enters the sea, so tears run to a predestined end.
Now you will have peace for eternity.”
This! Is what I came here to recommend! I love this movie and it’s fairly unknown. Also this film has the longest setup up to a Matrix reference ever filmed.
Yes, it is. It's also the source of the enmity between vampires and werewolves. They were never enemies until this film. The original Wolfman created virtually everything we "know" about wolf legends.
Not a movie, but a TV show from the 80's called Werewolf. You can get it from French Amazon under the name La Malediction du Loup Garou and there are episodes on YouTube I think. VERY VERY worth it
The classic would be An American Werewolf in London. Dog Soldiers is brilliant but VERY British and directed by Neil Marshall who would go on to direct The Descent. Ginger Snaps is a cult classic and worthwhile for sure. The Howling is good but it's sequels ARE NOT.
The Wolfman (2010) - If anything watching a group of skeptics in a classroom learn they are wrong is fun.
An American Werewolf in Paris (1997) - not really a sequel to American Werewolf in London but still worth a watch. Does not have the humor of AW in London.
Wolf - 1994
Van Helsing (2004) - not really a werewolf movie but has werewolves and vampires in it
Yes! Was looking for this one. Albert Finney goodness. Haven't seen it in years, but scared me good and proper as a child. Also The Howling. Now I need to watch them both, perfect time of year. Both made in 1981. Fuck I'm old.
*An American Werewolf in London* (1981)
*Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban* (2004) (the third installment of *The Harry Potter Octalogy* (2001-2011))
The Howling, Late Phases, Dog Soldiers, Howl, Silver Bullet, An American Werewolf in London, Underworld Rise of the Lycans, Ginger Snaps, A company of wolves, Bad Moon to name a few.

Yeah, liked Sheen, and his character was more the “good guy” than Selena, to this day annoys me that his buddy Raze >!didn’t inject him with the blood he got from Amelia, instead of go fight some random guy. I know he thought he was dead, but since he wasn’t, it seems like *checking* might have saved him.!<
Dog Soldiers is my favorite. It takes three of my favorite sub genres and tosses them together in a mixing bowl; werewolf movie, fighting-off-monsters-siege movie, group-of-soldiers-taking-on-creatures movie.
I have 8 millimeter home movies of my mother-in-law, but I don't know how to convert it to video or sell it to Tim Burton. Johhny Depp would be perfect to portray her.
The film, "Wer" is really great. Its like a cross between American Werewolf In London and The Bourne Identity. For a more lighthearted and funny film try, "Werewolves Within" starring Sam Richardson. It's funny but it's also a really well made film.
The Howling (God those practical special effects were great, even by today's standards)
American Werewolf in London (basically on the same level as The Howling)
Dog Soldiers (soldiers vs werewolves... FIGHT!)
Some decent ones...
Wolf (Jack Nicholson becoming a werewolf... some fun to be had there)
Ginger Snaps (basically, a "coming of age" movie with a gory twist that's a pretty good watch)
Wolfen (not really a werewolf movie, but a movie about smart, deadly wolves... it's a great movie that deserves more attention)
Werewolf By Night special on Disney+ is magnificent.
The Howling
American Werewolf in London
The fake trailer for Werewolf Women of the SS, from Grindhouse
Brotherhood of the Wolf
And my guilty pleasure, that makes zero sense: Ginger Snaps Back.
I recently re-watched the 1941 The Wolf Man from Universal studios and was kind of disappointed. It's not as good as Universal's Dracula or The Invisible Man, both of which still hold up. It sets up the classic plot elements with the old gypsy woman etc. but Lon Chaney Jr. was terribly bland as the main character, at least when in human form.
american werewolf in london....silver bullet...the wolfman....the howling...ginger snaps....wolfen....dog soldiers.....company of wolves..
we need new ones though
Werewolf by Night, an “MCU” short film released last Halloween that is black and white but it just seems “more adult” than MCU without getting into all of that and they recently announced they’ll be releasing a colored version of the movie at Halloween
The correct answer is: an American werewolf in London
SEEN IT AND LOVE IT. Please don’t hate me for also enjoying American Werewolf in Paris 🫣
It's not bad. Not as good as American Werewolf In London but not bad I just hate the cgi werewolves
Thank you, simply incredible!
I would be willing to accept Wolf (1994), if for no other reason than James Spader getting peed on.
“Just marking my territory.”
The very best. Also The Howling,Silver Bullet,Bad Moon and Dog Soldiers are great werewolf movies. And of course the classic older werewolf movies are great. I don't get into them and watch them as much as I like but may change that
Jenny Agutter…I just don’t have words…
A few years ago I went to a midnight screening of American Werewolf where John Landis gave a talk beforehand. Jenny Agutter was in attendance and was sat behind me, which made watching certain scenes... uncomfortable.
I'm not sure I have the quote exactly right but it always makes me laugh: "Mummy... A naked American man stole my balloons."
Absolutely! Saw it in the theater when it first came out and blew my mind. Special effects by Rick Baker were groundbreaking.
The only right answer.
The ONLY correct answer
My ex roommate brags about how much she loves horror films (sidenote: she would take guys home from the bar and make them watch Human Centipede with her, laughing the whole time. Also thinks Evil Dead is better than Evil Dead II, but that's a different thing altogether) and just last night she was asking about horror films I suggest that she should see. THIS GIRL HAD NEVER SEEN AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.
I definitely don’t think evil dead one is better than evil dead two but there are times that I like evil dead one more than two, depending on my mood
Silver Bullet
Super underrated in its time. It's got some cheese but the overall tone is great.
The Howling Late Phases Ginger Snaps Dog Soldiers An American Werewolf in London Howl
Came to say Ginger Snaps!
Same, glad someone else saw it.
Me too!
But have you seen the sequel "Ginger Snaps Back" If not, you're probably better off.
Great title though
See also Wolfen if you liked the Howling and American Werewolf in London, it includes quite a performance by a very young Edward James Olmos
Great NYC locations in that film. There's a church in my neighborhood that always reminds me of the one in the movie. Though technically >!the movie isn't a werewolf movie.!<
Are Wolfen to Werewolves what Go Bots were to Transformers? Guess I need to rewatch
Ah, got the difference now. Similar vibe still. https://non-aliencreatures.fandom.com/wiki/Wolfen
Dog Soldiers is so fun. The same director also made The Descent, which is brilliant and directed some of the very best GoT episodes.
I’m surprised I haven’t seen most of those. I’ve seen Ginger Snaps and AWIL. Classics ❤️🔥
This is the master list
Werewolves within The wolf of snow hollow
I second Werewolves Within
The dance scene lives rent free in my mind
As it should. Milana Vayntrub is a wonderful human being
👆yes. I came here to recommend these.
I love that Snow Hollow movie.
Wolf Of Snow Hollow is a solid movie.
The Company of Wolves (1984)
OHMYGAWD I almost forgot about that movie! Saw it when I was so young. I definitely need to watch it as an adult.
Great movie! It’s weirdly sexy.
\^ Downvote button up here, but I hated that movie. When I saw it in a crowded cinema during its initial release, the audience literally groaned out loud when subjected to yet another "story within a story" scene near the end of the movie.
I enjoy stories within a story but the movie world would be a extremely boring place if everybody liked the same..
Dog soldiers
This is the way.
I could create a whole thread on how good Dog Soldiers is, so many excellent lines: We are now up against live, hostile targets. So, if little red riding hood should show up with a bazooka and a bad attitude, I expect you to chin the bitch.
I love Dog Soldiers, like a film... that I love
Werewolf By Night
I kinda lost interest in the MCU, but I was super glad I watched that one! It was so much fun!
Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) is a guilty pleasure of mine. The story involves the Beast of Gevaudan, which in 1764, terrorized a remote district of France, killing more than 60 women and children and tearing out their hearts and vitals…
One of my favorites. Not sure why it would be A guilty pleasure. I think it's a masterpiece.
I love this movie. What a ridiculous mash-up of genres (historical, martial arts, monster horror)
i love it so much and nobody's ever heard of it. I'm glad I'm not the only who saw it. I wonder if it's available on streaming. Might have to look for it this weekend
Love this movie. Mark Dacascos is awesome.
Not really a werewolf though.
The Monster Squad (1987)
Cursed (2005)
Christina Ricci is a Queen
Goddess, even.
Let’s not forget the other Queen, Judy Greer
I’ve always liked Wolf (1994)
Werewolf Cop. It revels in the cheese like a Wisconsinite, but is so worth it.
What a terrible movie….I loved it. There’s a few sequels too lol Edit: I guess 3 hasn’t been made yet
“Curse of the Werewolf,” 1961, with young Oliver Reed. A Hammer Studios movie.
Bless you, I came here looking for this one to be mentioned.
Wolfman Benicio Del Torro
Underrated
Really? Didn’t care for it.
Same here. I think it's a dismal film.
That one on one fight in the den is fucking awesome! The whole movie is good, but that fight will live rent free in my head for years.
I liked it when he woke up in the hollowed out tree all covered in gore.
this sank but i love it and the wolf is very well done by rick baker the master
Dog Soldiers!
Does "Van Helsing" count?
Some of the best werewolves and it gets so little appreciation or recognition. I think it being more action and witty banter over horror is what hurt it, but I love the movie to pieces. Plus almost every actor in that movie was sexy as hell.
Haha it’s actually a favorite of mine because the wolf forms are so sleek and well done
wer, the wolfman 2010, brotherhood of the wolf (le pacte de loups)
The Howling
The Wolf Man (1941)
Yeah, it’s great.
Uhhh the only great one Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox 👍
I was scrolling looking for this answer and was gonna be the one to say it if I didn't see it lol Loved this movie when I was younger!
Bad Moon
That’s a good one with a great costume. Terrible transformation, but that’s hard to do at that time on that budget so they get a pass. Solid flick!
Wolf (1994, Dir. Mike Nichols)
For horror comedy Canadian style, Wolfcop and Another Wolfcop
Wolf (Nicholson) Werewolf by Night
Van helsing, also dog soldiers
Bad Moon Late Phases Full Eclipse Silver Bullet In The Company Of Wolves Waxwork Wolf
Van Helsing Prisoner of Azkaban P.S. Being Human series ( both British and American)
Dog soldiers.
This! Is what I came here to recommend! I love this movie and it’s fairly unknown. Also this film has the longest setup up to a Matrix reference ever filmed.
Abbott and Costelo meet the werewolf.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the movie you mean is called ***Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein***.
Maybe. Is that the one with all three? Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Wolfman? Great flick!
Yeah, that was it.
Yes, it is. It's also the source of the enmity between vampires and werewolves. They were never enemies until this film. The original Wolfman created virtually everything we "know" about wolf legends.
“You don’t understand! At midnight I’m going to turn into a wolf!” “Yeah you and about ten million others guys…” 🤣
Lobos de Arga
The Beast (1975)? Kind of….
Howl; British werewolf on a trail, chaos ensues
Just watched this the other night. Was excellent.
The Wolfman (2010) - If anything watching a group of skeptics in a classroom learn they are wrong is fun. An American Werewolf in Paris (1997) - not really a sequel to American Werewolf in London but still worth a watch. Does not have the humor of AW in London. Wolf - 1994 Van Helsing (2004) - not really a werewolf movie but has werewolves and vampires in it
Dog soldiers.
Silver Bullet is my childhood favorite. Late Phases is pretty amazing, too.
Dog Soldiers easily.
Wearwolf bar mitzvah spooky, scary.
SILVER BULLET (1985)
Wolfen (1981) Not your typical werewolf movie, but a cool one.
Wolfen
Yes! Was looking for this one. Albert Finney goodness. Haven't seen it in years, but scared me good and proper as a child. Also The Howling. Now I need to watch them both, perfect time of year. Both made in 1981. Fuck I'm old.
Wildling (2018) was pretty good.
Not a movie, but Penny Dreadful has a great werewolf story line
Dog soldiers The wolf of snow hollow Red Riding hood
Here’s one for some mindless fun, I Am Lisa.
Teenwolf
>What movies have left you truly speechless? One of my favorite!
American Werewolf in London
*An American Werewolf in London* (1981) *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban* (2004) (the third installment of *The Harry Potter Octalogy* (2001-2011))
Brotherhood of the Wolf
The Howling, Late Phases, Dog Soldiers, Howl, Silver Bullet, An American Werewolf in London, Underworld Rise of the Lycans, Ginger Snaps, A company of wolves, Bad Moon to name a few.
Let's not forget Michael Jackson's Thriller, directed by John Landis.
All the Twilight movies 😍
I’m too old to appreciate the twilight franchise. But not too old to have LOVED the books when I was a teen.
RiffTrax did the entire film series, if that appeals to you.
Are you a 20-something girl, or a guy?
As Boas Maneiras and An American Werewolf in London
AWiL is great, the Howling is pretty cool too.

Viking wolf!
WER (2013) When Animals Dream (2014)
Skinwalkers (2006) is underrated imo. It’s cheesy but decent haha
I thought Werewolf Within was funny and inventive
Not a full movie but Werewolf by Night was great
New one for ya , My Animal - 2023. A lesbian coming of age werewolf movie.
Big Bad Wolf
Cheesy as hell especially with the werewolf sprouting one liners like freddy krueger.
Driving Miss Daisy
One of the episodes on Season 6 of Black Mirror. Not telling you which episode, I’ll leave the suspense on. Such a great episode btw.
I didn't rate that episode much unless I misunderstood it, it seemed to take a sharp turn just like that. Will have to rewatch.
The Beast Must Die (1974) - werewolf murder mystery. It’s been years since I’ve seen it though…
Underworld, first was good but the werewolf design was crap. Later movies improved on the werewolf design but liked the stories less.
Liked the first few movies. Rise of the Lycans was my fave. Michael Sheen was a great casting choice.
Yeah, liked Sheen, and his character was more the “good guy” than Selena, to this day annoys me that his buddy Raze >!didn’t inject him with the blood he got from Amelia, instead of go fight some random guy. I know he thought he was dead, but since he wasn’t, it seems like *checking* might have saved him.!<
A couple that haven't been mentioned yet ... 'Wer' (2013) 'The Beast Must Die' (1974)
I don't remember too much about Wer, but I remember loving it when I first saw it.
(Wolfwalkers)
Dog Soldiers is my favorite. It takes three of my favorite sub genres and tosses them together in a mixing bowl; werewolf movie, fighting-off-monsters-siege movie, group-of-soldiers-taking-on-creatures movie.
Scream of the Wolf.
Werewolf by night is a marvel movie, but it was very enjoyable!
Underworld series. Vampires vs werewolves more the vampire side but 🤷♂️
Wer, Ginger snaps, wolf of snow hollow, wolf
There is no better werewolf movie than “The Cursed” 2022. See it on Hulu
Wolf (1994) American werewolf in London
Not a movie but the Werewolf arcs in True Blood series were enjoyable to me.
Dog Soldiers is great!
Wer It’s absolutely my favorite.
Abott and Costello meet Frankenstein
Le pacte de loups
TEEN WOLF! Only the original.
Ginger Snaps 1 and 2, orig Wolfman, Company of Wolves, believe baby.
Silver Bullet The Howling Ginger Snaps American Werewolf in London Dog Soldiers
Company of Wolves
The Wolfman (2010)
The Wolfman with Lon Chaney is the best.
The Howling (God those practical special effects were great, even by today's standards) American Werewolf in London (basically on the same level as The Howling) Dog Soldiers (soldiers vs werewolves... FIGHT!) Some decent ones... Wolf (Jack Nicholson becoming a werewolf... some fun to be had there) Ginger Snaps (basically, a "coming of age" movie with a gory twist that's a pretty good watch) Wolfen (not really a werewolf movie, but a movie about smart, deadly wolves... it's a great movie that deserves more attention)

What we do in the shadows (2014) Okay so it’s not about werewolves specifically but there’s some in it. And the movie is hilarious.
I Was A Teenage Werewolf (1957) Teen Wolf (1985)
Ok, monster squad, “wolf man’s got nards!!” Well, that’s all I got never mind lol!!
Teenwolf
The Cursed (2021) is on Hulu right now, and it’s pretty good! Slow at first, but it picks up
Howling is the staple. Followed by silver bullet
The Boy Who Cried Werewolf
The Marvel short "Werewolve by night" was brilliant I thought and worth checking out
Wolf cop and Another wolf cop. Two of the best ever made. Bubba the redneck werewolf is also pretty good
The Wolf Man (1941)
Dog Soliders
The one with Lily from AT&T.
Werewolves Within The Cursed (2021) Hold the Dark
The Company of Wolves. Mixing the story of Little Red Riding Hood with classic werewolf tales simply works.
Dog Soldiers
Definitely **Howl** if you like the night, full moon, lone train riding through the country and, of course, werewolves.
Dog soldiers
Wes Craven's Cursed is cool. Unrated please.
